Interlude Woman

Interlude Woman is tart. That’s the first thing that comes to my mind every-time I wear this perfume. It smells like unsweetened cranberry juice with an earthy and nutty walnut. Honestly, despite how complex and unforgiving this perfume is, it almost feels relaxingly natural and soothing. I used to go on a walk every Saturday, and there are plenty of walnut trees around me. Interlude woman smells nearly identical to the green, overripe/underripe (not sure) walnuts that were smushed into the ground around the trees. It’s realistic and complex. It smells like a walk through the woods in the summer

Honeyed kiwi and crushed walnuts, with incense burning in the background. A very mystical, Eris-esque perfume that is alluring yet grounding at the same time. I haven't come across anything like it and it's slowly growing on me. I have to be in a certain mood to wear it though; sometimes I love it, sometimes the honeyed kiwi note is a bit much. One thing for sure though, whoever can pull this off is a goddess walking among us.

I see that I already submitted a review twelve years ago. After all these years, I can say that it has moved forward to be one of my favourite hot weather (summer) fragrances. It is not generic, but rather a herbal-floral combo with quite a substantial immortelle note. Everything seems well blended, and it is long lasting with a good projection. It is called Interlude W., but in my view it leans more masculine actually.

Definitely better than the men's version - i’ll give it that! To me it smells like a glass of exceptional sweet red wine: rich, smooth, and deeply satisfying. The kind of scent that feels like perfection in a cup! 9/10

Interlude Woman is one of those perfumes that makes the world seem to lean in a little closer when worn. People smile more, strangers say hello, and there are many double-takes. It has that unmistakable magnetic pull. However to me, this is a complex, sweet, dramatic, but surprisingly agreeable amber fragrance. It is not exactly a daily driver, because of its opulence but its too beautiful to resist for even the most basic occasions.

My feelings are all over the place with this one, quite an old version I have, and I can imagine with softening and refinement there could be an improvement in current versions. I’m looking at the listed notes, but I find nothing legible in it. To me it’s a harsh, dry, synthetic blue unripe fruity and incense creature that smells much better up close than in the air, rather weird. Much more masculine than feminine. In fact would be awesome on a man, but I can’t wear it, and I say that about few perfumes indeed. Unwearable, scrubber, etc. Amouage had a spate of these, like Bracken, acerbic, synthetic , abstract, can see why they bombed, but this one is the bombiest.

Potent Nuclear Juice. I think my nose might have matured, when I first bought this $400, I was loving it for maybe 6 months. More mass appealing than the Man versions. 10/10

Somehow I thought I had reviewed this one already…scrolled back several years…nope. She’s a chameleon and a slow burning beauty if you “get her” - odd, intriguing and then loved to the hilt. Some never get her, others a straight “nope”, a few souls flip-flop between no/maybe/yes and then outright “it’s crap” like @RottigrlNYC (I lost count after the 4th review). So beware. My own experience was slow - a curious and respectful “not sure what this is” through to today’s deep respect and love. I have an older click-cap tester bottle which I thought I was short changed by, when I received it 3 years ago. I’m now grateful that I have it. Opens balsamic and honeyed over some green and herbal tinged notes, peppered with dry tobacco-like facets. The texture is thick, like honey and just as sweet with some boozy, dried prune-like aspects. Best in cool to cold weather where the sweetness is better appreciated and the notes open up. The dark wood and incense notes weave through breaking up the sweetness. I don’t consider it challenging but it is complex and requires patience (and for the wearer to appreciate ambered fragrances). Now possibly my second favourite scent from the house.

(Review of a new formulation, which, as noted by others, does have differences compared to the original release) I’m usually able to see the thematic overlap with Amouage’s masculine and feminine counterpart perfumes, but with the Interludes it isn’t as obvious. Interlude Man is a cold weather staple of mine and has been since it was released, its rough bordering on cruel delivery of hot and intense smoke and woods never fails to make my eyes go wide in captivation. It delivers a story of an apocalyptic resinous-tree-forest fire in progression. In searching for a thematic connection to Interlude Woman, I suppose we have a yin and yang connection as Interlude Woman is the opposite of apocalyptic, fiery, smokey, or woody. However, this loss of the drama that Interlude Man had - or vice versa, perhaps Interlude Man gained the drama - is not a disservice to Interlude Woman. It doesn’t matter which perfume you experience first, you get an immediate sense of this dichotomy in the opening. There are some bitter and piquant sour qualities from the hesperidics and the ginger components, some powdery aldehydes that will make themselves more apparent as the perfume progresses, but what stands out the most is the marigold… or so one is to suspect. It is brief, and overlaps a lot with the greens and the bitter, earthy, citrusy notes of the other materials, but the nose suspects the floral aspect of marigold is what should be at play here and it is very likely the orange blossom and helichrysum playing upwards out of sequence. What one smells most readily from marigolds is not the flower but the plant itself, which has a very strong musky, green, “repellent” type odor, but there isn’t much of that in the opening of Interlude Woman, or at least not much that lasts long enough to be detectable as such separate from the bergamot, sulfuric grapefruit, and ginger. Instead it’s yellow floral, which marigold flowers can have a bit of, but they are quite demur about it. It becomes a bit more obvious that something is “off” as the hesperidics and ginger dry down and a honeyed melon note blooms, an effect of the honey of helichrysum and the gentle fruitiness of orange blossom. The powderiness becomes more overt here as well, significantly adding to this smooth-fruit effect. A jammy pink rose brings it home. The heart then, summarily, is a floral amalgam of pinks and whites given a good dose of melon-y fruit. Kiwi? No, not really. Kiwi doesn’t have much of a smell, except for watery melon type notes, but its flavor can be briefly green and citrusy when it hits the tongue, so while the smell of kiwi might be there the flavor is not, and to my palate the smell and flavor of an underripe yellow melon is more apt. It’s odd. Very odd. Other devotees of Interlude Woman note that this floral fruity heart wasn’t nearly as powerful in the original formulation but here is where a careful choice of words becomes very important. To my nose, this fruity floral was always present in Interlude Woman, but in the original the dank-green marigold-type facet was stronger and the floral and incense aspects stronger. These others notes have been dialed back as, perhaps, they were a bit pushy to what prospective buyers at perfume counters were looking for, and by dialing them back this melon floral heart became stronger. It might be a small or semantic difference, but it’s important and it has large implications. Regardless of how your nose perceives what is transpiring in this heart layer, there is enough of the floral components, musky greens, and earthy and resinous incense to get the job done. There is just enough tension between the pushy greens, the watery and honeyed fruits, earthy incense, and gentle florals to create the tension fitting of the Interlude brief. Maybe think of it this way: when a man wants to create tension, as in Interlude Man, he is likely to be quite direct and brash; the way a woman would create tension, as in Interlude Woman, is going to be much quieter and nuanced. Maybe that's sexist, and, if so, DM me (so I can ignore it). It’s a fascinating section of the perfume, but it does take more than a couple wears to wrap one’s mind around it. The dry down resolves the tension by going convincingly yet well-done woody amber. The opoponax carries a sort of caramel boozy aroma, the resinous benzoin leans only slightly towards an earthy vanilla/tonka aroma, and there is plenty of lightly creamy sandalwood, all playing the starring roles. The powderiness continues in the form of gentle musks. It’s nestling, caressing, easy to handle and to love, yet very nicely balanced so as to not go too far in either direction of woody, vanillic, or earthy. Now, time for a purely subjective and opinionated portion: I am a bigger fan of Interlude Man than I am Interlude Woman. I like drama. I like wearing art. I can be perfectly loving towards something rough and brutish like Interlude Man when it is compelling. Interlude Woman, at least in this new formulation (I might later add thoughts about the original, though it won’t be much different), is none of those things - dramatic, artful, rough, or brutish. But it is impeccably beautiful. Whereas Interlude Man might have just enough overlap with Amouage’s Arabian roots in its willful pushiness and bold nature, Interlude Woman reads far more like a classic French oriental/amber with its calculated, quiet, and nuanced tension. I have a place in my heart for those perfumes as well, and Interlude Woman slots right in.

Very challenging, fierce and unrelenting. It takes multiple wears until you literally realize its complexity is beautiful and no other perfume can compete. It’s similar to an uncertain new love relationship until you realize this is the one. That is the effect!

Some back story: I accidentally purchased Amouage "Imitation" and really disliked it...returned it. Initially sniffing "Interlude Woman," I thought, "WOW...this is nice and (thankfully) smells NOTHING like 'Imitation' the perfume I just returned." I very much like Interlude Woman! Okay, I actually LOVE it but my husband detests it. Go figure. Marigold ALWAYS scares me off, as does immortelle. And there's SO MUCH going on with this fragrance. So, the opening and mid-notes unfold in a very dry, warm, hazy, dusty, hypnotic sort of way. There's lovely florals, hay, dried grasses, immortelle, LOTS of honey, fruit (kiwi). Not sure what walnut might smell like in a fragrance but I do not detect much nuttiness. Despite the presence of honey, this perfume is never thick, syrupy, or cloying. LOADS of seamlessly blended tonka, amber, resins and woods appear in the dry down, which definitely balance out sweetness from the honey. And all of this loveliness is supported by a backbone of exquisitely blended oak moss and eternally radiating smoky incense. I LOVE IT!

Isn't this blue bottle a masterpiece of it's own. Not often I come across a brand making scents that are so unique as Amouage. Guidance is truly hyped up, but why is no one talking about interlude woman? It's a headturner and a little whimsical in a work of art type of way. A sultry headturner. Very unique. The person who wears this is someone who knows what they want and get it.

This is a work of art - not for everyday wear, definitely not a people-pleaser; but a gorgeous one-of-a-kind fragrance for sure. The notes transform from bitter, tannic walnut shells, to fuzzy and green kiwi skins with a bit of pulp, to florals and coffee - and every combination of those as well - all on a quite heavy, resinous, incense-y base with just a bit of sweetness that softens the whole composition. This is so multifaceted that it's frankly hard to describe, you really just have to try it. It's strong and long-lasting, and you're bound to get some comments on it, both compliments and complaints. It's a scent you have to really, really enjoy all by yourself in order to wear. I liked it, but a small sample was more than enough for me. I'd rather come back to it sometime later, like a particular painting in a museum that gets kind of stuck in your mind, so you revisit it from time to time.

This is a heavy, intense and complex chypre. The opening features slightly spicy citrus notes with ginger, followed by a strong combination of incense, flowers and fruits, with a generous amount of honey. The base is deep and rich, woody and leathery, with amber and musk; slightly smoky and balsamic. There is a lot going on in this fragrance, but for me it is simply overwhelming. It fills the entire room, and after six hours I had to wash it off as it became too much for me.

Mi se pare mai mult masculin. Persistenta si sillaj moderate. Ma asteptam la ceva puternic si profund. Iubesc parfumurile tari, intunecate, rasinoase, iar dupa notele din descriere am avut astepari mari. Dezamagire !

This one is highly original but way too stuffy for me in the opening. I feel it wears me instead of the other way round. I like it more a few hours after, but I don’t want to endure the first 2 hours so I never wear it. I’m selling my 100ml, in the old packaging. This has such an interesting trajectory. It's beautiful along every step of the process, but each phase is distinct. It starts so juicy and sweet, but in a bright, fresh way. The kiwi note is GORGEOUS. It ends drier, with a woody amber tone. Great sillage and longevity. I'm surprised to see so many people rating it as unisex, because it reads extremely feminine to me. But hey, if that means more people are open to wearing it, great!

I can see why some people appreciate it as I do think it’s unique and unlike anything I’ve smelled,but it’s just not for me.The immortelle and the kiwi really bother me.I found this to be a really dense and balsamic fragrance overall and not something I want to smell like.But I do appreciate the olfactory journey it took me through,so I appreciate it for what it is as a creation.Two of my girlfriends smelt it also and one of them didn’t like it while the other one loved it.So give it a go if it interests you;maybe this’ll end up being your cup of tea,as I said it is unique,I’ll have to give credit where it’s due.

Fruity and sweet (Dried fruits vibe) with warmth and depth. Sweet tobacco dry down that is quite similar to TF's Tobacco Vanille one. 100% unisex and perfect for cold weather. I really like it!!! IG: SammyPerfumeLoverrr

Great scent, the best of the Woman's line. Overture woman I recommend as well. This one is very strong, at least my bottle is. Delicious fruity notes. Gourmet, gourmand type vibes. One woman really wanted to follow me around campus because I was smelling so good, but I declined. Terrific, fantastic juice. Amouage definitely makes some of the best stuff in the entire world. Love the extrait's they offer. Really hope they make one with overture.

This is similar to Meander Man from Amouage, but with a different twist, like some of the Enclave Man DNA has been added. I notice this is a general trend with Amouage: many of the fragrances share some DNA. This has some of that same smoky, chewing gum DNA as Meander, but with some slight mintiness, which is not listed. This is a fragrance I cannot pick apart the notes off though - I'd probably guess 1-2 of the notes, at most. Quite interesting, calm and sophisticated.

I just have to revisit this love of my life and tell everyone how amazing she is! Nothing smells like her! Interlude.... spicy balsamic incense and walnut/kiwi accord wow. Ceremonial, sophisticated, moody. Luxurious, spicy, enveloping. Mystical, bewitching and sensual.

It opens with a green tart fruitiness laced with incense, in a way I find unusual. At first that put me off a little, as I'm not fond of sharp fruity notes, but it seems to be slowly winning me over each time I wear it. Soon the incense takes the lead, accompanied by dried fruits and honey... And it unfolds into an enthralling, almost meditative presence. True to its concept, it does evoke serenity within chaos. Like being in an open-air Middle Eastern market, surrounded by all sorts of fruits, spices, flowers and leather goods. The atmosphere is buzzy, and at first it feels overwhelming, but soon you find a refuge within yourself: your interior is filled with serene, sacred incense. You are centered, grounded within your own presence. Then all the different smells and noises come together not as chaos, but as a symphony.

Blackberry..what a wonderful Blackberry note.. jubilation. for women would be a more fitting name, here the Royal berry lays on a bed off the finest flowers, idolic jasmin giving the rich feel off honey, subtle jammy rose, light Smoky warm resin base, a high Quality Amber... This is a true masterpiece. Its perfectly unisex.. hard to say its femenin or masculine..for me it just exist.

So the more I wear this, the better it gets. This has crept it's way up to being my second favorite, if not even actually tied to Guidance. It is so polarizing, complex and beautiful. I have even purchased a back up because it is perfection. One of the most beautiful and most complimented scents ever. Throughtout the day it just envelops me in this beautiful fragrant cloud that transitions throughout the day. It is enticing and seductive and perfect for night as well.

Spicy, incensy, woody, and ambery all at once and it does it so, so good. I am not sure what people find challenging about this one, it’s actually sweet, creamy, and very juicy due to the kiwi, grapefruit, and immortelle on top of the vanilla, balsamic base. A vanillic incense comes and goes as the fragrances settles adding a beautiful, sensual depth to it.

When I 1st smelled this I hated it. Everything about it was TERRIBLE. It smelled 100% masculine with no hint of femininity. Incense was all I smelled along with some wood. Now, over a month later it blossomed. Suddenly it became one of the most beautiful perfumes that I have ever smelled and one of the most complex. It will take you on a true journey if you allow it to blossom. Almost every note listed becomes visible and will hit you throughout the day. I love this.
