Timeless

The very opening of Avon's Timeless is odd, ...oddly green and rough. Maybe aldehydes + a patchouli + old-school labdanum-rich amber will do that. That soon dies down, but the bitter-leaning labdanum-first amber remains strong, ...joined in with unlit resins (opoponax), iris powder, and still some of that patchouli. That kind of amber is a nice surprise, when compared to how vanillic most recent ambers have become. I don't know if that qualifies as 'timeless', ...but it's certainly not trendy. When I decided to sample this, I didn't think I'd find such a top-drawer amber in the bottle. This makes for such a fine exchange away from the current style (Eternal Oud, Grand Soir, etc.) I sample here from a vintage bottle, ...I can only hope that something so 'timeless' will never change.

Best fragrance they ever made. This is basically Miss Dior plus sweet resins. It's actually alot like Vol de Nuit.

Dries down to a nice powdery spicy scent, notes too dissimilar to several vintage masculine scents I have. Despite the dominoes of floral notes, to me they manifest spicy more than floral. The opening is too aldehydic harsh for my liking. It was one of my mother's favorite fragrances in the 1970's. But with the drydown its not too feminine.

Opoponax is loud and proud. Great fragrance, amber lovers shouldn't miss this! Vintage "cologne" performs like an extrait de parfum. Just wow!

Ooh girl! I picked this up at a thrift store. I'll admit it took me a moment to warm up to this fragrance. The first spray was reminiscent of my great grandparents, who had these cool bottles of cologne and aftershave, so it gave me the brief feeling that it was a dated scent. However, upon coming to this page, I really see and smell the complexities. It is definitely earthy in its undertones, but still a feminine fragrance. A patchouli note often makes a fragrance smell too masculine on my skin, but not with this one. The silage is great, the longevity is great. Maybe this perfume is my introduction to more vintage scents? I like it a lot. I'm usually more into gourmand scents, but this one feels mature and pretty and adult-like. I feel like I'm dipping my toe into something new and amazing--even though it's been around for quite some time. I'm not sure when my bottle is from, it looks different from the one in this image. The cap is light orange. It says Avon copyright 1995 on the bottom, so maybe from then? Not sure if it matters and if the formula has changed over time or if maceration changes it much. Update: I used my old bottle, and got a new one that is the Classics version that they sell in the modern day. The bottom of it says 2016, so maybe that's the current formulation? I think I like the older one better. But this one is still good.

I have the Classic Collection of this one. So not the old vintage. I like it a lot. It starts as a chypre but that disappear very quick. Mostly i smell a warm, cozy, sweet chocolade like fragrance. Longtivity and projection are moderate. Once in a while you get the sweet chocolade wave in your nose. I'm curious how the real vintage one is smelling.

This is like a cross between Miss Dior/Intimate and Shalimar/Emeraude.

I have a vintage bottle of Avon Timeless Ultra Cologne from the '70s or early '80s so my review is for this version. I don't know if the current Timeless is exactly the same. I'll update when I find out. This is bewitching! It's rich, mysterious, and sensual. It's one of my favorites! I don't smell individual notes. It starts off as somewhat of an old-fashioned floral, but it settles with a golden, almost caramel-like, slightly sweet amber coming through. It's never too sweet, not at all gourmand. There is just enough earthiness in there to keep this fragrance grounded. I'm in love! Timeless is the perfect name for this classic potion! When I'm wearing this I think of a candlelit dinner in a dark cozy restaurant, and walking in the city on a cold rainy evening. Timeless is the fire needed to warm up your night. 🔥🔥🔥

this opens with tons of incense and aldehydes. it's very resiny/woody with a lift from the aldehydes. after a couple minutes i get some florals, primarily rose. then after being on the skin about 15-20 minutes, it's seriously gorgeous. i get a lot more jasmine and a hint of gardenia and more amber/vanilla. it's a somewhat dark incense floral. so beautiful!

I've just discovered this scent, sort of waiting for me. As a fan of aldehydes I sometimes blind buy vintage scents, enjoying the journey through their variety. Some lean more towards the sharper notes, others more towards resins, but my favourites are the honey / vanilla / tonka flavoured ones. Aldehydes make them into something just out of this world and this one is doing a fantastic job! My first love of this kind was Clea by YR, which I've come across quite recently. Now this little one came to me and I am basically drenching myself in it. There's something about the right balance between the old Miss Dior-like bitterness at the beginning, and the rounded, soft Clea sweetness towards which it slowly develops that appeals to me a lot. And makes them truly timeless, as they connect the old school of perfumery rounded with the sweet, but well behaved and groomed accents. Aldehydes are like olives or wine - at first you may not be going to like it, yet after getting used you just can't have enough of it (well... the wine comparison might not be very accurate). They are an acquired taste. Glad I got this one, will make me reminisce about all the other great perfumes.

Fragance of cult. Very similar to Miss Dior 1998 . Identical.

Okay- I finally purchased a vintage (1980s I think) of Avon Timeless and.. first sniff took me way back! Definitely a scent you would absolutely not smell today. A huge decant of aldehydes at first, but Timeless settles in about half an hour on me to a sweet, mostly mossy-earthy scent. I can't imagine a 20-something seeking out this type of scent... Timeless has a very vintage feel; it's classy, appropriate for any occasion, not in your face, very well-rounded, good for day as well as night wear. Timeless is my fave Avon scent and I will be searching for more of the vintage juice.

Timeless by Avon. What can I say? I've worn her since my teenage years in the 70s. She was the first Avon scent I liked right off the bat. It is a unique blend of notes, warm and cozy like a Cashmere sweater or throw. This came out in 1974, when I was a junior in high school, but it was right after I graduated in 1975 that I fell in love with her. The older formulation liquid was a darker amber, and had a silver faceted cap, and combined with the perfumed skin softener and talcum powder, it lasted all day. Fast forward to the 80s, Timeless and I had a lengthy separation, as a young woman in my 20s, I was discovering the designer perfumes of the day, i.e., Poison, Opium, Obsession, Albert Nipon, Halston, et al. I literally forgot about her. Going into the 00s, where now I'm older, 40s and up, I rediscovered Timeless when I working private duty for a sweet elderly lady, Miss Louise, and I was on my way to church and realized I didn't bring any perfume with me. I asked Miss Louise if I could use some of her Timeless perfume, and she told me I could. From the first whiff of this beautiful scent, it took me back to when I was a 16 year old girl who'd just gotten my first job and bought my first bottle of Timeless. Unfortunately, Miss Louise passed away and once again, another separation of Timeless and I. Fast forward again. In 2014, I moved again, and I was out of perfume. I found a lady in my building who sold Avon, and, overjoyed, I bought a bottle of Timeless and the skin softener. I used it religiously until it was gone, but still had the skin softener. By this time i found out I could buy Avon online. However, I didn't care for the newer packaging, so I went to Ebay online to seek out some vintage bottles in the original packaging. Found two, and promptly bought them. And I've been happiest ever after. Sorry this post was so long, but let me say this...This scent can be nicely combined with Aromatics Elixir, Magie Noire, and possibly SpellBound, and Pheromone, as they all are unique chypre scents with woody notes. And I love them all. I'm finding I'm loving all the classic scents from back in my day. I have no interest in smelling like Starburst, Jolly Ranchers, chocolate cake, piña coladas, vanilla extract, hot apple pie, peaches, pears, grapes and any other overly sweet scent. I will continue wearing my "full grown woman" beast mode scents. Call em "old lady" if u wanna. I'm an old lady, correction, "seasoned woman of a mature age". You yungins enjoy your cake batter, Fruit Loops, Dunkin' Donuts perfumes. Have a ball. In the meantime, I will use my vanilla extract for what it's intended...baking a cake or cookies.

Timeless has a spectacular sparkle of aldehydes and bergamot in its opening that puts in the same league as its more "upscale" counterparts, sustaining as a rosy blush and greenish jasmine descends, then its nucleus of cedar and opoponax comes to the fore. Bitter and sweet coalesce, and Timeless feels simultaneously quenching and powdery (patchouli+orris), a stimulating astringency that makes my nose transfixed, marveling at all the layers. While some Avon fragrances seem to have a more rapid timeline of development, Timeless is paced and "cinematic." To be clear, it's really quite impressive. In a cynical modern fragrance landscape where there's a dizzying assortment of niche offerings all claiming to be luxurious and of premium quality, I must say that after smelling many of these they have come nowhere near stealing my heart like the noble Timeless. It feels so much more earnest and authentic, and the knowledge that it was such a hit for Avon attests to that. This ranks up there with Vol de Nuit and Miss Dior in its mystique and beauty. It's the ultimate ambery chypre, unequivocally unisex, and deserves a fountain of praise.

My best friend's mom had a bottle of Timeless on her dresser that we would sniff when she wasn't home. I don't remember the scent but I think I may really like Timeless based on the notes... I always love a chypre especially one with a cedar note. Nice to see that scents from the 'old days' are still available.. bravo Avon!

I love Avon timeless. Don’t be fooled by the notes —this is not a sweet, warm fragrance. All the notes are at their driest, leading to an almost suede-y impression, though of course more balsamic. On my skin the stars are mushroomy gardenia and patchouli at its starkest rounded out by a deep unctuous opoponax. I also get a hint of oakmoss, though that’s not listed, just barely glazed by aldehydes. Think halfway between Charlie and Emeraude. The result is an earthy brew that perfectly encapsulates is early 70s vintage — when counterculture had fully seeped into middle America— that also feels genuinely “Timeless”. It also smells much more luxurious than its budget price point. This would work equally well on a contemporary man or woman, but definitely requires possession of a natural sensuality. A deeply intriguing scent —as if one were trying to render an old school chypre in floriental materials. The result definitely works!

I am a big Avon fan. I am convinced Timeless is their version of Youth Dew (Estee Lauder) of course much cheaper.

BITTER. I can't detect any of the opening notes, just base notes. It smells awful on me, but wonderful on my son. Rich, earthy, masculine. It's his favorite.

My Mother has the deodorant Timeless, she always buy it, and when sprays on the evening in her sofa, it smells so powdery and charming. She likes Escada Classic, Yresse, Chanel 5, Olympea... all classic yellow floral type if not the same notes on every perfume, maybe will buy a bottle for her, very pleasant!

The ladies on the forums told me Timeless is one of the best releases from Avon. I blindly purchased the vintage "prism" bottle on Mercari for some ridiculously low price, in the ballpark of $5. ...They are absolutely correct. This perfume is a captivating treat. I feel as though I won a game of bingo and my reward is getting to listen to a live orchestra while dining at a ritzy seafood restaurant. Dainty aldehydic opening. Some comments are saying peach lactone, but I don't detect peach, I'll search for it. It has sweet, powdery florals in the heart, I want to say mimosa, but the florals are layered and hard to distinguish among the more assertive notes. This perfume is dense with a powerful base. It unfolds slowly and has discernible progression. Spices, orris, leather, powdery woods, tonka, and the deep, heady amber notes. The texture is dry, dusty, and smoky. I was not expecting it, but this perfume is intensely animalic, with a lot of emphasis on civet and castoreum below the aforementioned layers. My vintage bottle of Timeless has a chypre base with authentic oakmoss and patchouli. This one is hard to put my finger on, and the comparisons section is all over the place. I certainly don't think of CK Obsession. There's not much in common with Miss Dior aside from the presence of yellow florals and a chypre base, and I haven't yet tested Revlon Intimate. If you can imagine Vol de Nuit spliced with Revlon Ciara/Bal a Versailles, that's my best approximation of what this perfume smells like. It's quite a monumental undertaking. Even if it does nothing for you, this perfume demonstrates that people my age are being robbed by LVMH et al. Timeless is a phenomenal composition. It has only grown on me with time, ba-dum-tss. It's difficult to believe Avon was capable of making perfumes that smell this good. If you haven't tried it, please do. It has some serious heft and good progression, it smells a lot more expensive than it is. If you love classic animalic ambers and chypres, I can't recommend it enough.

I am blessed enough to have my late Grandmother's actual fragrance, Timeless by Avon. This is my first time wearing this patchouli bomb. My nose is picking up: amber, musk, cedar, jasmine, and, of course, patchouli. This is a very long lasting fragrance, that projects really well. It does smell dated to me--which is fine. I love a break from the normal fruit-choulis and vanilla-berry bursts of today. My husband really likes this, also. To my nose, it does have a slight masculine twist. It reminds me of her so much--no nonsense! I am grateful to have it in my collection.

Avon could not have picked a better name, as this is a truly timeless fragrance. While the opening is a little sharp on the aldehydes, it very quickly melts into a warm powdery amber chypre. It's gentle, elegant, and feminine. This smells like being a child and waiting for your mother as she gets ready for a dinner party. Considering how cheap you can find bottles of Timeless online (some in the fun shapes vintage Avon was so fond of!) this is a safe blind buy.

This is such a pretty classic scent - powdery, ambery, feminine and grown up. I can not believe that I got a brand new bottle of this beauty for under 12 bucks. It smells so much more expensive than that. Highly recommend!

Timeless is a truly beautiful fragrance. I have to admit that the opening is pretty sharp, and when I first smelled it, I didn't like it. I sprayed it on some tissue and left for a while. When I came back and smelled it a little later, it had blossomed into this wonderful, warm, cozy scent! And I DO remember smelling this during my childhood. It's the kind of fragrance that gives off a warm, spicy, and cozy vibe. This makes it perfect for the autumn season. Timeless is an acquired taste. This fragrance is not for teenagers. It does have a more mature vibe to it. It's longevity and projection are pretty decent, and you can't beat the price! I am so happy Avon decided to re-release this one! Another little gem from Avon!

So, today's vintage Avon will be...Timeless! I do recall this one from my childhood, but I know it still wasn't allowed in my house. Ok, drops applied to pits, wrists, and neck, here we go! So, right off the bat I know that the bottle I chose to go with has gone slightly off. There's a mustiness that shouldn't be there. No big deal to me, I wipe it off, I rub on some mineral oil, pour a little of the 1980 Timeless into a different bottle, add just a bit of fresh moonshine to it and let it sit for a couple of hours. I then reapply with the "freshened" bottle. Oh, ok, she is nice. Very woody opening, not too "pencil shaving" though. The amber and opoponax definitely benefited from the fresh alcohol. The aldehydes warm up quickly and the woodyness begins to calm down. Into hours 2-3 and she's a very pleasant floral. Not super powdery like some Avon scents. The "Avonade" is much calmer in this one. Some might call this another "grandma" smell, but like always I prefer the term "eternal classic" or some might even say timeless? 😄 So, Timeless actually lasts pleasantly until my normal Noon reapplication time. The fresh splash warms up the first application and she smells very calming. This is a very nice scent for Fall and Winter evenings, I can just tell. She does smell very similar to Revlon's Intimate. I still think MoonWind is closer to Miss Dior though. Now, I haven't smelled Guerlain's Vol de Nuit for many years, but if I had to guess I'd say Timeless and Intimate are her more affordable sister scents. I reapply after dinnertime and relax with a good book. I mean it, it is a calming scent, and Avon still made this one up until just a couple of years ago. If you're looking for a gentle, calming, relaxing amber fragrance you can't go wrong with this Timeless. Vintage bottles are still readily available for under $20, so even if you try it and find it's not for you you're not breaking the bank. I find Timeless mixes well with modern sweeter scents too, which is always a bonus. She also passed the hubby sniff test as well, so you know that's always appreciated. 🥰 Timeless is true to its name and I think it's definitely a keeper.

Avon have discontinued this wonderful perfume (again). I've bought a back up bottle from ebay. Why do Avon do this??? Last time they tried (2014) customers demanded its return. It truly is timeless and Avon are idiots.

Right when you first spray it, I’ll admit I don’t love it. But just wait maybe 10-20 minutes and it dries down into something absolutely lovely. Soft, powdery, a little bit of amber and aldehydes. And just the tiniest pinch of sweetness and spice. Almost reminds me of Airspun powder. I wore the Timeless deodorant as a kid and loved it. Gotta get some of that again, as well as the perfumed lotion, and wear all 3 together 😊 and personally I think it lasts a long time.

This scent brings me back to my childhood sitting in front of my mother’s vanity. I have been searching for perfumes she used to wear, and when I saw this bottle I felt like I was instantly transported back. This is a soft and warm scent that is very comforting. (Though this might just be because of my association with it.) It definitely smells like a classic 80s perfume. It’s a soft vanilla that doesn’t lean too gourmet which is nice. I like my vanillas to bring a warmth and comfort to a fragrance rather than the smell of dessert. The florals float in and out and it’s a really nice mix. This is a really lovely fragrance.

I just ordered my vintage (1982! pre-dates me!) 0.33oz shimmering "ultra fragrance jewel" from ebay. Based on so many good reviews, I cannot wait to test it out. AND be shimmery! Update: This is a pretty scent, sweet, dry fruity, and a little spicy. The powdery resins and fruit remind me very much of Revlon Ciara, which I see others have also voted as being similar. So similar that you probably don't need both in your collection, but both are very affordable and easy to find in drugstores (Ciara) or online (Timeless.) I can't imagine a teenager WANTING to wear this, as there's so much out there appealing to that age group and their sensibilities, but I think it would be appropriate for any woman of any age. I would call this fragrance "retro" but definitely not "dated." There's nothing challenging or unusual in this fragrance, yet it still has a quality worthy of its name; a bit serious, noticably feminine, well balanced between florals and sweetness, and special enough to wear for the important moments of your life.
