Hiris

1 Aug '26: Enjoyed the almost earthy/spicy deep purple floral opening, but it dissolved too quickly into smelling powdery. I didn't wash it off only as an experiment so I could wait to see how it developed, and thankfully the base notes turned into a coziness that had juuuust a ghost of powderyness, but well balanced. Will probably finish the sample vial but will not FS as I don't want to pay more to keep suffering through the blast of powder through the middle!

Oh I loooooove this. I am an iris LOVER. This is such a dew-y, honey (not gourmand), clean iris. It's such a hydrating scent. It's non-offensive and even if you don't smell it on yourself, people will smell it on you. Especially if they're up close and personal lol. I've gotten so many compliments with this one. It's so elegant and fresh and pretty. If you're someone who wants to smell pretty in a way that's subtle, this is for you (maybe... idk ur preferences lmao).

this fragrance is very delicate & subtle. its fresh, floral, & femme; powdery but not too sweet. great for office wear - there's nothing objectionable or overpowering here. it's also not explicitly "mature," which a lot of floral/ powdery fragrances tend to read to me. this one feels fitting across the spectrum of age it reminds me of stories I grew up reading - a young schoolteacher in the 1800s/ early 1900s, who is fresh faced & gentle but serious & diligent. similarly, this fragrance earns the respect of its peers through quality & consistency, it doesn't need to be showy or gimmicky that being said, it's not my taste. floral, powdery, & demure are not for me - but if that's your vibe, this perfume is for you

I have the vintage version of Hiris. I get the feeling of soft watercolor - a muted purple-blue, from this lovely fragrance. It makes me feel like I've discovered one of my grandmother's treasures in a dusty attic, wrapped in crinkly crepe paper - so delicate I worry I may tear it. This is not a vegetal iris to my nose, nor is it the orris butter, playdough-esque of iris pallida. The iris here is feminine with dusky violet and a soft classic powdery note, along with a beautifully blended rose that is delicately enhanced and lightly sweetened with vanilla and honey. I do find this to be a more personal, close-to-the-skin scent, but I love it, and it will always have a place in my collection.

Very average scent in the palette of iris centered perfumes. The performance is very weak, I only get a glimpse of iris in the opening and after 10 minutes it just gives me something pleasantly sweet sitting very close to my skin. It could be a good choice for the office because it is quite invisible. I initially had Iris hand cream by Olivia Giacobetti for Frederic Malle which has a magnificent genuine orris root smell and I was looking forward to experience her Hiris. Unfortunately having tried both luxe and niche perfumes recently, I came to conclusion that luxe is so driven by profit and perfumers are under pressure to keep the cost down that the corners that they had to cut make their creations a shadow of what they were meant to be. This latest experience reminded me why I moved from luxe to niche some time ago. It has nothing to do with arrogance, it is about quality.

I keep trying to love this but it’s simply too elusive. I have the clear bottle and am wondering if this formulation is another example of luxury brands cheapening their products. It just sits on the skin and doesn’t integrate at all. It performs like a cheap scent.

I love this scent - I used to wear it all the time back in the '90. I am fortunate to have some left of the original formulation. It smells soft, clean and calming.Very wonderful

Loved the buttery opening, subtle, elegant... then in less than an hour it turned into a very perfumed iris... too ordinary perfume-y and headache inducing. Sold it.

Light, clean, dry, soapy iris. Amazing "clean girl" scent. Ageless in my opinion. Just a super pleasant scent. It doesn't perform well though, but still beautiful perfume.

Beautiful airy and dry iris scent. It’s quite traditional but also fresh which makes it pretty modern as well. I can see it as a beautiful everyday office friendly scent. Love it! It’s pure, clean and soft at the same time. I prefer this one way more over Prada d’Iris. Follow me on ig: scent.guide

Cold as a tombstone at dusk. austere, and utterly devoid of warmth… This ghostly iris doesn’t bloom, it haunts. And I fell under its spell.

This is a beautiful floral and powdery iris where the iris is the star and violet is a supporting character. Mildly soapy, slightly woody, & the slightest sweetness. Clean & dry, smells very natural. I don’t get rose or honey at all. I think a man could wear this well too. Unfortunately this has no longevity or sillage on my skin, so it is relegated to a bedtime or at home scent for me.

Hermes Hiris - my favourite perfume. Mild, tender, opulent, gentle, soft with breathless charm. I have the modern clear bottle version. Simple, classy and elegant. The curve of the bottle has some sort of details to it, making the bottle very easy to grab on and spray. Iris, lily of the valley, rose in the top notes, with almond and powdery accord on the drydown. Moderate projection and length. It is easy to wear and very likeable. Unisex although it tend to be more female in my opinion. Goes well with most outfit. Probably the best designer iris perfume I have ever tried yet.

everytime i wear this i think of a glass bar of soap. see through, cool, smooth edges. i doubt one could find a better designer iris

Was able to get a discount bottle of this and I loved it! I was curious about how it smelled as I am getting more interested in iris notes lately and it did not disappoint! A successful blind buy. Btw it was the one with gold cap.

Oh wow, just lovely. Such a clean (not soapy just uncomplicated) fragrance. Light and pleasant but thoughtfully so, intentionally so. A wet iris, rinsed clean and pure and warmed by the early spring sun. Honey and rose lend it warmth. I don’t find this particularly melancholic; to me it reads brighter than that. It’s alone, perhaps, but not lonely, just lost in thought and dreaming. A thinking woman’s iris. Creative and potent. Evocative year round.

I've been putting off buying Hiris for a number of years: I have always loved the sound of it, but I'm really not a fan of the newer Hermes fragrances. None of the shops in my area sell it, so it was always going to be a blind buy; however, especially as it's been packaged in the same bottle as Amazone, Caleche, Eau d'Hermes and all the other Hermes classics (which I love), I thought it was going to be a safe one. Well, I finally relented and bought a bottle online, and I'm wearing it for the first time today. The first few minutes were great: soft floral notes with a touch of green. Then it sweetened as honey appeared. I was beginning to think what a lovely fragrance it is, when out of nowhere, modern musks (which aren't listed anywhere) began appearing, and are now completely dominating and tainting it, as they do with many other newer Hermes fragrances. Three hours later: the floral and green notes have gone completely; all i can smell now is a mixture of almond and musk Sadly, Hiris has been a costly mistake, as I really dislike these modern musk notes. I'll be giving my bottle away. Just my personal opinion, but in recent years Hermes has done these same white musk notes to death - maybe it's time they did something without them.

Hiris has such a somber iris note—it’s like the embodiment of a classically fascinating ice queen ❄️👑. Imagine a brutal, calculating domme who has you in a chokehold, demanding and high-maintenance. It’s a harsh, intense iris that reflects roots and vines, capturing the entire photorealistic essence of the iris, from the soil it grows in to the rainwater that nourishes it 🌿💧. Hiris smells like tears—salty and cleansing, as if you’ve had a therapeutic cry beside a vase of old Iris flowers in a grand, stately home or country mansion. Hiris feels ancestral, evoking a sense of lineage belonging to an upper echelon of society that remains out of reach for most of us 🏛️✨. Hiris, you fascinate me so, yet you destroy me.

Hiris is one of the Iris scents which has very original personality. It’s not dry and powdery, it feels more like wet on my skin. It’s beautiful, elegant and poetic. It’s somehow clean and fresh but not soapy one. It’s a little bit melancholic, absolutely ethereal and innocent. It’s like walking through the garden with the bare feet early in the morning. The scent is smooth and polished, it’s so beautiful and so blue. 💙 I don’t have any problems with longevity but I used to change a perfume at least a couple of times during the day. I haven’t tried this scent in the new bottle so I don’t have any idea if it’s the same. I’m happy to own this one. Thank you for reading, I hope my review was helpful. "Melancholy", "depression in a bottle"...Wait, what? Lol. Not to me! This kind of smell makes me very happy! 25 years ago this was the best iris I had ever experienced. This is the reference iris to me. Perhaps because Hiris is the only iris fragrance I've tried that actually smells like iris root absolute, the so called blue gold of perfumery. An extremely precious and costly raw material. Most iris scents are based on iris root concrete (orris butter), a product I don't care much for. Hiris was a unicorn in the realm of iris fragrances, 25 years ago. I have no idea what it smells like today. I hope it hasn't lost its charm.

Plz remove the aromatic notes from this masterpiece 🚫🌱

Hiris by Hermes 3/5 First impression is an grandmother version of a strong iris, a pinch rosy and bit powdery perfume. It doesn't really have a lot of sillage. Becomes a skin scent after thirty minutes. I wanted to like this one but it is a bit outdated. Lasts about two hours on my skin. Purchased sample from Surrender to Chance based on an iris video from Persolaise Perfumes. Wore at home. Would not purchase.

Fresh, quietly joyous, and deeply melancholic; Hiris reminds me of a frigid spring morning in the UK. Heavy laden Irises weeping with rain water amongst rosy cobblestone and crisp cold air. This evokes the feeling of ennui- the remembrance of something soft and beautiful. Hiris is distant and earnestly addictive at once. She is a very photorealistic Iris. I buried my face into a garden of purple Irises in the Colorado mountains two months ago and I've been chasing the high of smelling that since. Hiris smells like real, fresh, voilety irises and and opens with an equally verdant neroli note. Olivia Giacobetti has a magical ability to present every aspect of a plant through a lens that veers into a territory of magical-hyper-realism: Here is the root. Here are the leaves. Here is the petal... Hiris is no exception. This is soapy, serious, green, and oh so beautiful.

I had this in the 90's and despite not smelling it for several decades, I have 100% total recall on its fragrance. Strange how the scent of it popped into my mind and I had to think for a while about what it was. Then it came to me and I ordered a new bottle. The new formulation has the bones but not the braun of the original. Still, I love its earthiness and the sense of maudlin it evokes. This is a perfume for writers as it makes one feel pensive but still. I have a lot of iris perfumes, yet none are like this interpretation. I really wish Hermes would re-release the original of this along with Parfum d'Hermes, the signature scent of my 20's.

Reference iris fragrance. Rooty raw iris. A fragrance to teach why iris smell comes from the root and not from the flower. Plus some sensual flowery musk. Reminds me of Narciso Rodriguez EDT + iris, lots of Iris. Lovely, but not an easy fragrance. 8,5/10

Reviewing the vintage version with the gold cap. If melancholy smelled like anything, it would be this.

This is depression in a bottle. Hands down the most melancholy fragrance I have ever smelled in my entire life - even more sad than De Profundis by Serge Lutens which has always been the saddest scent ever to me. This is powdery, ethereal iris that evokes feelings of loneliness and solitude. It's what Arwen would wear if Aragorn checked out in LOTR. This is a very soft scent that would work well all year round, but I personally like wearing it during the cold, dark hours of the early morning when it's foggy, misty, and there's a layer of frost covering the landscape. Makes me feel like a ghost.

Opens with ozone, wet earth, and violet greens. It reminds me of an early morning garden after a night of spring thunder showers. This phases moves into a bit of sweet, along with a faint whiff of acetone that’s much more fresh and pleasant than it sounds. The faint sweetness reminds me of the rose in Dolce&Gabbana Rose The One, but it’s not an upfront or very strong rose. It mixes with the wet earth and ozone ever so gently. There is a warmer note that comes in around this time. I’m wondering if it’s a mineral type of amber. Something that gives off warmth but doesn’t hit you over the head with a lot of sweetness or vanilla balsamic notes. It just smells earthy and warm. So far, nothing is too strong or obtrusive- all very light and ethereal, keeping with that ozonic, moist-earth feel of the opening. Then I get the scent of fresh carrots- stem and all, pulled right from the earth in a vegetable garden. I’m assuming this is the iris, but it’s not as sweet as the iris in other iris-based perfumes. This, mixed with the ozone and far-away-sweet of the rose, gives a very unique and unforgettable note. Incidentally, my husband doesn’t register the fresh carrot note and only says it smells lightly sweet and very pleasant to him. This phase stays for a really long time and into to the dryout where it becomes a soft, and slightly sweet, ozonic, skin scent- very clean, fresh, and understated. To me this is really quite beautiful and unusual. While it’s very delicate smelling, I think it’s totally unisex, subtle, and extremely elegant. This all being said, there is a drama and an austerity to this fragrance. It’s minimalistic and pared down and, in this way, it might not suit some fashions and some tastes. For me, I find I enjoy it most in early spring, when it’s still cool and damp where I live. I enjoy it least in winter and have never been inspired to try wearing it in summer. I feel it speaks most to the moist, in between seasons. I have the rectangular, blue frosted bottle. I agree with others who have said: Launch this perfume now as niche, and it would be a HUGE hit. I just love it!
