Amethyst

Was tired of hearing a YouTuber bang on about Lalique amethyst so at the price I had to give it a whirl. Its OK Thats it.

This smells like a witches cocktail to me. Like she went out in the woods, picked black currants and combined it with some homemade booze and witchy medicinal herbs. Not bad at all but not my vibe, I can imagine someone with an alternative/gothic aesthetic liking this.

I love Nathalie Larson's art. Amethyst was given to me as a present for my 50th by a friend of mine who passed away. I had issues with it then as do some other members here and eventually regifted it. Suddenly I feel the need for a comforting feminine perfume which is not worn by every second woman. Unfortunately, 4 of my favourite perfumes have been discontinued and a few otherd have been slaughtered by reformulation and new laws - Hiris by Hermes, Eau d'Hadrien by Goutal among them. So, I ordered Amethyst from Lalique. It came today and I love it, with all its imperfections. It is a tender touch and just what I wanted.

I really like the initial spray of berries, but I can't with the dry down. I am left with a peppery gasoline smell :(

Too tart for my liking, but definitely has better longevity compared to Meliora by PDM

I don't know if it's cause my bottle is old. I just purchased it second hand. Whoever said this is a dupe for Meliora, why are you lying? This is what my grandma's house smells like (no disrespect to grandma at all), but this is not what I want to smell like. Meliora is bright, fruity and light. This is smells like aromatics you would buy from a shop in Chinatown. Thankfully my bottle wasn't expensive, but I don't know if I should give it away or throw it in the trash. I wouldn't give this to anyone I liked that's for sure.

First impression: I remember hearing that this smells like a berry bush, leaves, branches, soil and all. I'd say that's pretty accurate. I wouldn't describe this as shampooey or fruity/juicy. Sure, there is a nice sprinkle of berries, but the woody and musky notes are pretty prominent. Maybe also a little green but not a fresh green, more like a florest floor where wild blueberries grow. My nose is also picking up on a rose note and it gives a slightly "stuffy" feeling to the sent at least in the drydown. I was prepared for something more tart and bright, but I'm not mad at this at all. Could be described as "moody" or vampy. I think this'll work all year round.

A non-alcoholic fizzy berry cocktail served in a chilled glass, made with real crushed berries and high quality tonic water. (And not some synthetic sugary berry slop!) I absolutely love it. It’s fruity yet sophisticated, and works for any age and occasion. It wears beautifully during the day and is just as perfect for a warm summer evening.

I've grown to like this one but if you are expecting a juicy fruity fragrance, this is NOT it. It smells soapy, not like an old-school floral soap but a fancy one you will find at a nice spa.

This is a melange of very tart, crisp berries and musk. I am on the hunt for shampooey perfumes but there is not enough sweetness in Amethyst countering the tartness to make this a proper shampoo scent. This is quite realistic, like eating newly ripened berries which are still a little sour and haven't softened up yet. Although this is not what I was looking for, I have to give Amethyst its props- this is quite long lasting and my husband, who is ambivalent or critical of most of my perfumes, said it's really good.

I blind bought this because of the perfumer and the notes. But it was such a disappointment. Like drinking a watery Ribena because there was only a teaspoon left. I was expecting a juicy fruity delicious thing going on with the notes and the dewberry comparisons but it’s nothing like it. Just a very nothingy, soapy bland shampooey type thing. Disappeared in minutes luckily.

This disappointed me hugely. Looking at the accords, I was expecting a rich, sweet, fruity concoction, maybe somewhat like juice or wine. This to me comes off clean, mild, subdued and ultimately very flat. Maybe somewhat soapy? My initial thought was "old lady" and then I gave the perfume to my mother, who loves it. Mid-fifties isn't proper old, but make of that anecdote what you will. The floral elements dominate this scent trail for me. This isn't a composition that I find highlights fruit or berries. The performance is strong and the scent lingers.

Nothing special about it, shampo vibes, no projection or something memorable. Too weak from every angle.

This is a ‘good bang for your buck’ type of perfume. It does evoke the colour ‘purple’ or ‘violet’. It’s a floral fruity perfume that is good for any moment or occasion.

I love the fresh berries that come at first, i wish it stayed that way but the drydown is more like barbie hair scent

The whimsigoth girls will love this. Purple forest fairy who lives under the blackberry bush. I like it, but it leans a little bit generic to me when compared to other Laliques from Lorson IMO. It can become sickly if you overspray.

Big hit of juicy, freshly picked ripe dark berries with some blackcurrant and blackberry leaves, complimented by real, proper bold fresh rose, given longevity by white musk and a tiny hint of orchard tree wood. I've loved this for years and I do get why some people find this reminiscent of Body Shop's vintage Dewberry or a good berry air freshener. But to me it's a masterpiece that encapsulates warm summer evenings blackberry & blackcurrant picking, surrounded by rose scents wafting around. Evenings when I used to rub the blackcurrant & blackberry leaves in my hands as a child and pretend it was perfume. More of a warm to hot weather scent for sure, however this also works for me as a pick me up in winter. Yes, I spray this with happy abandon, because with this fragrance I think that's almost expected. I think it's beautiful and if it was any heavier it wouldn't be as great. I've always managed to buy it at a fantastic offer somewhere, so it never breaks the bank either. I find this far superior to the eclat version, although that's good, it hasn't got the character of this one for me.

A fresh, not-too-sweet, delicate berry scent that will be lovely for spring and summer. Sadly it doesn’t last long on me and requires over-spraying, but I can already tell I’ll be reaching for it often as the weather warms. I feel it’s office-friendly and would make a nice gift for a sister or aunt who enjoys fresh, light, fruity fragrances 🫐 (I also love and agree with the reviewer below’s description of this frag as wild berries in a rain-drenched forest, from a floral bath POV 👌🏻)

I blind bought this because the notes sounded incredible and I didn't want to spend on PDM's Meliora. And boy am I glad I did, because I'm an avid blind buyer and this would have been an expensive mistake. Something about this fragrance reminds me of my grandma. Not general old lady, but specifically a fragrance that my grandma had when I was young that I did not enjoy. So objectively I don't think it is a bad scent, but to me it's too vintage and reminiscent of a fragrance I also didn't like as a kid. This fragrance is a fresh, light berry with a vintage twist. If that's your thing, I'm sure you'll like this. But this is not for me.

I can’t believe I’ve just neglected this fragrance in my collection. It’s fantastic! Juicy berries with a slight cassis green freshness. I must be crazy because I pick up anis or licorice but I like it.

As an adorant of the violet quartz, I do love the name and bottle design, ...and fortunately there is so much inexpensive, yet quite fine, amethyst from Brazil, However, this almost as inexpensive kind, with perfume inside, comes from France. Consensus declares that Lalique Amethyst's darkly bittersweet fruit bouquet leads with black currant, ...but blackberry (or mulberry) is just as believable, assuming this is fruit picked before full ripeness. One must know, Amethyst is nothing like jam or pie, ...but it is somewhat like a dry red wine (Pinot Noir?) of low brix. Also take note, it is a blackberry motif that is faux-etched on the front of the monolithic purple bottle. Furthermore, the florals and musk of Amethyst render it with a soapy film. This is only a semi-gourmand at most. This soapy distance also make Amethyst less brightly green than Meliora, to which it is often compared. I sincerely admire Lalique's firm stance on keeping the sugar to a minimum. In some ways Amethyst seems to serve as the feminine equivalent of Encre Noire. Yet all the same, ...I'm just not at all adamant about really wanting to wear this scent. Layering to the rescue! You have my full recommendation to layer Amethyst with a light vanilla fragrance. I chose what was immediately at hand: Monotheme Venezia's Vanilla Blossom (adjacent sprays, 2:1 ratio), ...but of course there are many, many other options.

I don’t even know where to begin… I remember the first time I smelled it I was in a perfume shop, and I completely fell in love with it. Every time I wore it, people would compliment me. and that’s when the story really began—I bought it more than 8 times between 2022 and 2024. It basically became my signature scent. I love layering it with oud incense sometimes when I want a deeper, heavier scent. Even my mom started loving it and uses it now. I actually avoid reading reviews about it because I’d feel upset if anyone criticized my perfume I love it that much. Even my friend ended up buying it. the beautiful notes, the design of the bottle, the name everything about you is just stunning. 💜💜💜💜💜 I truly adore it, and I feel deeply emotionally connected to it, honestly.

A lot of people say it is soapy, I find it more lotiony. It’s like a beautiful musky body lotion with berries. Not sweet, not juvenile. The dark purple bottle gave me an impression that it would be a deep and rich fragrance, when actually it’s is soft and cozy. The scent develops quite quickly on me, first berries then floral, lastly it’s the musk. It’s a beautiful and easy to wear perfume.

It's love at first sniff of the perfume. The smell of berries at the beginning, which smoothly flows into a delicate floral aroma. My girlfriend and I are very pleased with the sample, and we will definitely buy a whole bottle for spring-summer 💜

Not sure why so many people say this perfume is tart fruity not sweet, it's sweet, very sweet! The pepper note is subtle and doesn't add much sharpness. I also have the Perles de Lalique and in this perfume the pepper note is very pronounced. I did wonder whether both having rose and pepper they might be similar but they're completely different. Amethyst is very much a berry, musky, floral perfume in that order. I wouldn't call it dark fruity either. It has quite a bright almost airy fruity smell, initially you get a dominant blueberry note but it quickly changes to something more equivalent to a cocktail of berries which I think is due to the influence of the floral middle notes. There's quite a strong laundry/soapy musky background which I smell right from the beginning, I don't pick up much in the way of woody or vanilla notes. I read an earlier review saying it was like a berry soap and that's pretty close to what I get. Something quite fresh, sweet and clean smelling, certainly nothing sharp or medicinal or herbaceous or 'forest like' which I've heard it called before. A pleasant but unremarkable perfume which I'll reserve to wear in summer when I don't want anything to heavy or cloying. I don't have any other fruity or sweet perfumes so I'm happy enough with my purchase but I certainly wouldn't call it ground-breaking or iconic.

Unfortunately this way a blind buy for me. Unfortunately because I’ve never hated a perfume this much before. I had an immediate physical reaction to this, a headache than nausea. I had to scrub my skin for minutes trying to get it off my wrist. It smells like a combination of an “old lady” smell and something nauseatingly nasty. It’s very synthetic and unpleasant to my nose.

I bought this perfume because I love Meliora and I was hoping this was similar but there's something so bad about this scent

"Amethyst" opens with a tart and crisp blackcurrant, and, lemon balm mint (even though it is not listed in the notes pyramid). Its very fresh and herbaceous, invoking the image of a neat herbs garden outside a country cottage on a sunny day. Most nostalgic, in a joyful and romantic manner. There is indeed a mulberry note, which is most divine and delightful. It brings out my childhood memories, picking the berries off the tree, loving every bite of a honey-like sweetness and bursting juiciness (which nothing could wash off in the 80s and 90s, but was totally worth the scolding I'd get from mum and grandma for those few moments of heavenly pleasure LOL!) I cannot fathom how did the perfumers managed this incredible feat of creating such an accurate flavoursome scent of the mulberry, but they did it and should be praised for their skill and dedication. As the scent develops, it blooms with more sweetness of peony and rose and depth provided by the aromatic pepper and powdery ylang-ylang. It is not linear, but multifaceted and utterly fascinating, drawing one to inhale and appreciate its beauty again and again. Woody notes seem to be an ochre-like streaks among the greenery and the blossoms, adding gentle and dry spiciness, maintaining the eloquent balance and image of a true amethyst - the gem with the depth of colour and multiple hues, which is never oily or overly exuberant, but regal and aware of its beauty and uniqueness, that has been admired and worshipped by the humans throughout the millennia. The fragrance's projection is well-balanced, not vulgar or beastly, but elegant and rich. It is definitely more than a skin scent, and at the same time well mannered and considerate of the surroundings. Due to the ingenious combination of herbal and fruity-floral notes, it is perfectly versatile and can be worn at any time of day or night, business or personal, summer or winter. Rose and ylang-ylang get golden-sugar flow of vanilla, blooming as a heavenly flower, becoming gourmand, in a most delectable and classy manner. The herbs shift into the background, providing a beautiful reminder of the garden one walked in with initial spray of the perfume, and grounding the vanilla most tenderly; pacing it through the time, rather than overpowering or imposing on its beauty.

Smelled like a forest but I also couldn’t seem to like it. I kept smelling olives in here. I love olives but I don’t want to smell like one. 🙂

Not that I love to be smelling like a fruit or something but I don’t get any fruit on it, it’s smells heavy floral like a flower covered in mud with olive oil top of it, weird…?
