an ode to yellow flowers in a bottle many people need to experience this fragrance

It is so grim, big, fat and oily. I did a half pump and the molecules are stained onto my olfactory bulb. I try a dozen pumps of neroli outrenoir then mandarin balisic and still cannot escape the oily residue left by that half spray in another room.

old school but it's good!

Just adorable! It opens with a juicy burst of fruit intertwined with narcissus. I can't quite pick out the individual notes, it smells more like a bright, slightly tart multivitamin juice made from all the fruits in the top accord blended together. This stage is very brief before the fragrance quickly transforms into something much greener. Here I get plenty of jasmine, tuberose, and possibly mimosa. This is actually my least favorite part, simply because I'm generally not a huge fan of prominent floral notes. Thankfully, it doesn't stay there for long. The real magic happens in the drydown. As the musk and amber come forward, the fragrance develops a soft animalic character that I absolutely love. It's warm, sensual, and addictive. Performance is a bit unusual. The scent lasts for hours, yet there are moments when I can barely detect it on myself. Don't let that fool you - you can easily go nose-blind. Be careful with the number of sprays, because even when you think it's disappeared, people around you will almost certainly still smell it. It seems to vanish, then suddenly reappear out of nowhere before hiding again. One of my favorite moments is at the end of the day, when a little water on the application points revives the fragrance and lets me enjoy that gorgeous drydown all over again.

Beloved Poeme. I took the plunge and paid an extortionate amount for a bottle lately on a Saturday afternoon perfume fix at my local Perfume Shop. This is a 90's perfume in every way. A huge honeyed cacophony of flowers with everything in it including the kitchen sink. It hasn't been horribly reformulated either so that's a blessing. I know a lot of perfume fans moan about nostalgia but there's just something so special about these type of fragrances. They stay in the memory for a really long time. They just don't make them like this any more.

I first encountered Poeme on a lady 10 yrs ago about 20 yrs older than me…we were at church and it was handshaking time ,as is custom in alot of Baptist churches..🥰. I smelled this lovely perfume and said oooh,,,what are you wearing? She said Poeme! Got to smell this quite often on her and finally bought a bottle….but .. I didn’t want to wear her perfume at church lol. We no longer attend that church and I’m happily wearing Poeme as often as I want. It’s so rich and fragrant…it’s a love,

I revisited it at the airport. 2026. Still AMAZING! Luscious feminine mature motherly yellow flowers under the comfortable summer sun on a warm happy day💛💛💛 A hug! I want a full bottle again! No, it doesn't smell dated or vintage. Gorgeousness! Timeless! To my nose I mostly smell a creamy ylang ylang, Tuberose, freesia, narcissus and a warm amber with a sweetness coming from vanilla, but it's not obvious. I guess I smell mimosa, too, but I don't remember how the plant smells in real life. Some green notes are there to resemble the "plant" experience and cut through the florals. It's creamy, luscious, smooth, dense. Lovely!

Mmmmmhhh. Regal. Full-bodied. At first this seemed suspiciously like Classique, but the more I wear it, the more I love it, the more it distinguishes itself & I prefer it. I have the modern version, it seems quite long lasting to me, not as much as the pre-reformulation era of course, but not terrible. Definitely a bridal fragrance, as others have mentioned. I agree. There are so few perfumes worthy to be worn for such an occasion. For me, that speaks to how beautiful it truly is. For it to remind people of that collectively, says a lot; it's such a specific image & yet it could be worn everyday if it fits your energy. It radiates beauty, happiness & romance. Love. I'm surprised there aren't 1000s more reviews. I'm not sure what people are sniffing these days that this would smell dated. Thin, one dimensional viral TikTok sugar bombs? Gross. I need nuance & depth.

Needed a positive sunshiny boost on this cool, rainy day. I first smelled Poeme on a very chic, cosmopolitan woman several years older than me. She had her act together and was an Italian beauty, a modern Sophia Loren with less curves, plenty of sass, and street plus book smarts. I wanted to BE her and HAD to know what the alluring, character affirming scent was that seemed to be at the essence of this woman. She didn't just wear this; she WAS Poeme. This confident, generous woman was above gate-keeping and as soon as I was able, Poeme entered my life. I was frantic when it appeared Lancôme was discontinuing and feverishly found one of the last bottles available at that desperate time. Could I live without this gorgeous, edgy, complex floral bomb that sings on my skin? Well, of course I could, but with so many of my "favourite fumes" long gone, I'm glad to have a big backup bottle. Based on reviews here I'm not sure it will be as glorious as it once was, and I should check, but for today I enjoyed being enveloped in this comforting smell, being reminded of a friend long gone, and being distracted and lifted up from debilitating pain. Perfume is such a personal, powerful, enriching, time-travelling part of life; tangled with our memories, and informing our aspirations. Poeme is long lasting and due, I think, to the large variety of notes I do not become anosmic. This is big bang for your buck juice: tomorrow there will be more to enjoy as the matured and muted fragrance is also delightful.

divine scent it was. i was 10 yrs old when my aunt first wore it. it smelled heavenly for my 10year old self :) my mom fancy it, she even disliked it descirbing it to be vulgar and repulsive. She was Nina Ricci girl. but Poeme....was something...it did smell super strong back then but once i smelled it again recenlty i didn't get that overwhelming power that i used to think was strong. it's a difficult perfume to wear; it's not modern it's not a freshie, it's not gourmand, it's not even oriental. it's a flowerbomb but a vintage flowerbomb. i guess you could give a go if u r a very original individual, with a specific scence of esthetics and clothing manners. it should work well with those who like to stand out but in a "here i come way" rather than blending it with the crowd. if you are extremely unique with your outfits it could add up to your overall style however if you're one of those women who wear white shirt and black skirt it's too complex. in my view it would work absolutelly perfect with very thich eyeglasses, bold haircut, maybe someone from marketing or an artistic soul. all you regular specialist workers will not bond a friendship with this one.

Gen Z, does this smell vintage to you? Or like "old lady"? Please smash the like button only if yes.

This gotta be one of the greatest wedding fragrances of all times, either for the bride, bridesmaids or invitees, this is what a wedding is supposed to smell like: floral, happy, intoxicating, sweet.

Анонім

I just saw this on the Lancome USA website. So maybe they listened to those who wanted this back!

Анонім

So pure and beautiful. Unfortunately even after one small spray it turns out beast on my skin, on clothes it can last for days. I love it though, I think it’s a perfect wedding scent.

has a caramel-like richness, but with a classic, floral opening. incredible work

I am a unapologetic blind buyer and I couldn't have made a more perfect purchase. Poeme is an ode to spring and summer days, it's the prettiest bouquet of honeyed florals. This smells like a tree with blooming white and yellow florals that drip nectar. Bees buzzing around you. It's grandiose and it's beautiful. I smell a huge dose of mimosa and narcissus, with sweet peachy and plummy facets that add a slight depth to the sweetness. It's not woody, it has no edges either, just a pure cloud of scent. The dry down is that prettiest rich vanilla mimosa ever!!!! What's so interesting to me about the reviews here is that it's widely viewed as a winter fall scent. Now I don't know if this is a pnw thing or what but this smells akin to my backyard. There is a massive linden tree that sits in the middle of it, and this smells so similar to the blossoms dropped by it. Standing under this tree you can hear the sound of hundreds of bees buzzing. This is sundrunk, golden, soft and delicate, yet it announces its presence in a an understated way. Very much a sundress type of scent. Yes I feel like it's a spring summer scent, but it could definitely be worn in winter fall as well. I don't think this an offensive scent either, it's pleasantly sweet, maybe a bit cloying when oversprayed. But the dry down will pull compliments. Decent projection and longevity as well, it clings to clothes and skin. I go nose blind to scents extremely fast, but this one I can smell throughout the day. Like I said, it has no edges, creating such a pretty scent bubble. If your a lover of mimosa or sweet florals I really suggest smelling this, it truly evokes a sense of sunshine in such a cool way!

I think this is an example of a perfume in which the reformulation is an improvement. I've loved this perfume since it 'relaunched' and have wanted a bottle of my own for some time. It really smells like a sunny, beautiful spring day. Warm, creamy florals and a classy feminine vibe which to me is the perfect mix of youthful and mature, whimsical and self-assured. I got my hands on an older bottle for cheap, and I'm surprised by just how different it smells! Much more powdery, still that lovely springtime energy but definitely smells much more vintage or as some would say 'old lady'. I like it, but it's somewhere between 'like' and 'ok' whereas the current is an absolute 'love'. It's also true that my older bottle might smell a bit different due to aging. Either way, I'll most definitely be buying a new bottle. So glad it's back

The smell of springtime. Bright golden yellow mood lifter. Vanilla, honey, sweet ripe stone fruit fresh off the branch and warmed from the sun, gilded motes of pollen thick in the air from a superbloom with bees drunk and buzzing all around. Stunning in every way.

Hmm so I remember when this fragrance first launched. There was so much money put into the launch and I remember going from shop to shop to shop to get free samples. I fell in love with the warm, enveloping yellow floral-vanilla experience. It was oh so feminine and made such an impression on me as an emerging fragrance fan. To me, my most recent purchase does seem like Lancôme have toned down the intensity. I remember this being a powerhouse. Not in the clear-a-room way, just people who knew what it was would instantly recognise it. I feel it's lost a bit of that magic. Nonetheless, it remains a beautiful perfume and I do wonder why Lancôme have not done much with this one. (Perhaps we'll see a revival with fun flankers in coming years? I hope so.)

Poeme is Palermo in the summer!

I've just read the great Luca Turin's review of this which has prompted me to come here to say I could not disagree more! Wearing this makes me feel like a bee zooming headfirst into a pool of pollen. It's intoxicating. I can clearly identify the mimosa and I'm feeling some peach nectar, but to my nose the rest of the notes combine to make a delicious virtual flower that I wish existed in my garden. It's a big perfume, a classic currently underrated by the younger crowd, but as all our tastes expand and change over time, I hope this gem is still around for them to appreciate in the future.

I promise I will give this more of a chance, but my initial impressions are I loved it when I first opened the bottle. It smelled very lyrical to me, which was very appropriate I thought for a perfume named Poeme, but I don’t care for how it’s opening up on my skin at all. It’s not moving. It smells a little bit like sweet body cream with too many Jontue vibes 😩 I was never a Jontue gal.

I never wore this in the 90s, but admittedly, I got a bottle because I heard it was being discontinued, and now I am kicking myself for it. It smells so wonderful, and it evokes deep-rooted emotions that I can only describe as beautifully haunting - yet hopeful, like the first time I heard the song, "Always the Sun" by The Stranglers. I love to wear it on cold, rainy days or when I am feeling gloomy.

I am a serial blind-buy-moron. I couldn't find anywhere to test this and gambled on a big bottle based on reviews and my preternatural love of Tresor. My first impressions are that it is (sadly) not for me. There is a THICK buttery floral note - maybe the tuberose - that makes me a bit nauseous. I also think one of my more unpleasant grade school teachers wore it - an association that is totally not Poeme's fault. All of this can't take away from the fact that this is an artful, powerhouse perfume that has a classic golden aura that fills space like almost nothing I've experienced. I understand the love for it, but I doubt I can shed my negative associations (and quiffy stomach) enough to really enjoy it. Edit after a real wear: still not sure this is for me but I gave it a proper wear all day today and I'm feeling a bit more optimistic. Still a rough couple hours after first spray, but by the end of the day, it smells like the best bright pink bubblegum, which I dont hate....it lasts an age. 3rd wear: I followed Osouls' method from below and apply this under my collar on my back and it makes a difference - it's not nearly so overwhelming. I'm upgrading to a like! Update: I take it all back. I love this and it's perfect. When sprayed further from my face (low back under clothes works best for me) it's not overwhelming at all. It peaks out politely through the day like a big, shy, golden flower in a solar haze of pollen. The honey sweetness is always there, but more muted. In warmer temps an incense note peeks out. I totally get it now. The hang-time on this is unreal - even after laundering, my shirts smell like it. The comment below that it performs like a body spray made me laugh out loud, but also wonder what the hell that user generally wears. For reference, my bottle is new.

Poeme: …”crowned in red silk turban, golden hoops from the sun, queen whose words give power to the powerless… You whose tenderness untangles the snares of Fate…” (Sybil Klein) The materialization of solar fecundity. Complete joy, organic ecstasy, persian heat, a cloak of sun-cloud on my décolletage.

Writing about this olfactory masterpiece once more, because... sometimes life is as lyrical as its accords. I finally got my hands on it, after a long and patient wait, hoping I wouldn't be too young, too reckless, too light-hearted to wear it on my skin. Saw it sitting lonely in a duty free corner in the airport, on my way back to the city that...made a woman out of me. Such reward. Such joy. Such a sign of a time.

When I first acquired Poême, I immediately wrote a long review in my notes and wanted to publish it - it was supposed to be the first review on my profile. But over time, I decided not to publish it - it turned out too personal. I have different versions of Poême from various years, and my favorite version is the 2015 release (I haven’t tried the new formulation). The vintage editions of the earliest releases were too heavy and concentrated for me and can only be used by rubbing them on. (By the way, the vintage Classique EDT by Jean Paul Gaultier - the first batches - is very similar to Poême by Lancôme. In the modern formulation of Classique, for me, there’s no similarity.) I wear Poême almost every day, except on hot days. I would enjoy it year-round, but in summer it’s a bit too heavy and tends to hide. Poême loves coolness. Even when it’s warm inside, if you open the fridge or freezer, or step onto a cool balcony (in autumn/winter), it immediately blossoms and announces itself. I even feel a little annoyed that it only truly plays in the cool. My secret method of application is on my back. I don’t use any other method anymore. I do one spray under the collar, directed down toward the lower back (not on my hair, but directly under the fabric) and enjoy Poême. I’ve been wearing Poême Lancôme like this for a year and a half, and as I walk around my apartment, I always think, “Oh my God, what is that scent I just put on? It’s so beautiful.” (You might think I have the memory of a goldfish, but I test and use many perfumes each day, and every time, it pleasantly surprises me.) My ritual is Poême applied in “angel wing” style. Currently (late autumn), my favorite fragrance combination is: Poême Lancôme on my back A small cloud of Guidance by Amouage on a wool sweater, over the chest area, and on top of that, a spray of Al Contrario by Tiziana Terenzi I don’t overwhelm anyone with these fragrances in public; I wear them for myself at home or in nature.

Poême is one of those rare fragrances that transcends gender and time. I love this scent, even as a guy, and I wear it without hesitation. There’s something deeply magnetic about it, whether it’s on my own skin or drifting from someone passing by. To me, it opens like sweet honey and luminous florals, wrapped in soft vanilla and a delicate rose. It doesn’t shout. It glows. The best way I can describe it is walking in beauty—graceful, sensual, and quietly powerful. This is a classic scent in the truest sense. It feels intentional, romantic, and composed, the kind of fragrance that lingers not just in the air, but in memory. Classic perfumes tend to work beautifully with my skin chemistry, and Poême is no exception—it melts into me and becomes something personal. Sensational. Timeless. Unapologetically beautiful.
