Someone PLEASE tell me it gets good?!? This is absolutely disgusting! Full on old vintage expired Avon perfume sitting in a dusty attic! I sneezed and then gagged! There is nothing good or redeeming here. Based on the notes, it should be beautiful. I can even TASTE it - it's overwhelming with just 2 sprays! Triggers memories of me going through my Italian grandmothers things in the 90's and smelling her old perfume testers & mini's... the ones that all smell dank & like old rose shaped soap covered in dust. I can apricate GOOD vintage perfumes & based on reviews I though this would be one of them, but WOW - Ya'll fooled me! The bottle is beautiful though so it'll look nice with my ambers.

This fragrance is just lovely, and so under appreciated. Soft, sweet and richly blended. Affordably priced. I plan on buying a back-up bottle.

For me, the quintessence of classical, well-off, independent femininity. Frankly, I can't imagine anyone not liking it? The first hour showers you with powdery jasmine, an almost-pepperminty something fresh (like in Roma by Biagiotti), follwed by a fresh-fruity feast and an everlasting vanilla base. The wood is there to give it body and staying power, but it's in no way sharp or mossy. In fact, Mauboussin is similar to Roma in scent profile and feel, but it's not as sweet.

This reminds me of Tabu little sister or younger cousin and I'm here for it! Heady, beastly, and delicious. Don't go heavy on the trigger. Wear with confidence.

—-Updated— In the last two days this has settled, softened, and blended into a beautiful soul soothing fragrance bloom. —First impression— After opening the mail and spraying this blind buy onto paper was hmmmm what a unique, powerful, and powdery embrace. Do I like it ?? Not sure… I was however definitely being drawn back throughout the evening and thinking why do I know this smell ?? Finally, today I realized it reminds me of my favorite eclectic boutique full of tie dye, funky jewelry, and incense, predominately NAG CHAMPA !! Even though I appreciate Nag Champa as an incense I am not sure I want a perfume that makes me smell that way. Having personally experienced several fragrances “change” after settling from travel shock I will store this gorgeous “Little Rock” and come back to review more later❄️ 🥶

Clearly, Mauboussin has/had hopes of being unforgettably iconic. ...I mean that bottle, my god. And yes, I'll remember her, but will I remember her fondly? Maybe, ...it's complicated. I suppose one must call Mauboussin a fruitchouli, ...but not the delicate kind. Rasha (Al-Rehab) and Rush (Gucci) are somewhat inexactly similar, ...but Mauboussin is distinctly more woody and resinous. A powerhouse plum, lightly backed with a classic floral trio, slams into patchouli head-on, plus amber, benzoin, and woods. Are they dancing or fighting? ...It's a bit like West Side Story. They are definitely kicking up some dust, ...powdery dust. Yes, there is a powder note, unspecified and unlisted. The overall effect is more startling, than soothing, ...but that can be fine, ...sometimes. Verdict: I somewhat like Mauboussin, depending on setting and mood. She has some distinction, but she's not perfumery divinity, by any means. Frankly, I'm thinking of using her as a layering ingredient. That gleaming, pyramidal bottle is a product-design treasure, ...like a curiously swollen 4-sided die, carved from rock crystal. But one might want to set the cap askew, to remove it easily later.

It’s been 32 hours since I sprayed 2 x puffs on my wrists. I showered, and I washed my hands many times since and I can still smell it! Beast!

Just received this gem in late spring where we are suddenly getting a jump in temps. Totally not the right time to try something like this. However I can say I’ll be enjoying this mid to late autumn and onwards. Softly powdered, with a lovely amber that really does lean vintage in the best way. The big plum note saves it feeling too staid and isn't sour as I've found many plum notes. I can also completely see the vintage Ann Klein II and Chantilly references. Two loves from my childhood. Such an affordable fragrance that doesn't feel redundant or old fashioned. Glad to have this one.

Blind bought this in 2025 This is still relevant given that it came out in 2000 Smells niche Opens up vintage plummy amber vibe then gradually warms up to a sweet vanilla patchoulie dark deep sultry sweet fruity floral then comes the depth of that nicely done patchouli and finally the deep deep deeeeep dry down is a warm slightly powdery but smooth, resinous, , benzoin, vanillic, perfect for fall scent! That was on paper. Now, on my skin. Not sure if I’m just not in the mood for it tonight but it’s a tad rotten fruit and ash tray. Hmm 🤔 I’m gonna have to test wearing this around the house and let it sit and see what happens What I believe is that this one is one of those kinds that you have to be in the mood for. A love/ hate kind of perfume that some days makes you nauseated and turn your head in disgust and other days you just can’t get enough. For women our sense of smell is altered during the different phases of our cycle. This happens to me with the mugler angel scent. I’ve almost decluttered it so many times but wind up keeping it bc there are just times that I want to smell it.

I have to confess that the opening notes of Mauboussin were quite a shock! I was transported back to my childhood bedroom in the depths of a 1950s Winter, to my Mum applying Vicks vapour-rub to my chest, and dosing me up with a cherry-flavoured syrup, in an attempt to soothe a troublesome cough (smells are so evocative, aren't they?). I think this medicinal opening is due to a hefty dose of benzoin, and a resinous amber, tempered with a sweet fruity-caramel. That's all rather confusing, because according to Mauboussin the opening notes are supposed to be yellow plum, bergamot and red tangerine! However, after the first ten minutes, the scent evolves and the heart notes reveal jasmine, ylang-ylang, an oriental rose and a beautiful soft vanilla. Finally, the base-notes bring cedar, sandalwood and patchouli to the party, and the overall impression is a heady mix of sweet oriental spiciness which is saved from being either medicinal or gourmand by the soft powdery floral and vanilla notes. It's a highly unusual combination which I'm glad to have discovered in the midst of the short, dreary days of Winter. Too cloying for warm Summer months, I can imagine wearing this in front of a roaring peat-fire which fills the air with its own tarry smokiness - the perfect complement to the scent. Yes, I've fallen head-over-heels in love with Maubousssin and its unique blend of comfort and heady, oriental sophistication, and I think anybody who admires YSL Opium, Dior Poison, Chanel Coco or Guerlain Mitsouko will like it too. But those who prefer a quiet, discreet fragrance should avoid Mauboussin cos the projection and sillage are HUGE - this is definitely one for the extrovert!

This was a near-blind buy for me - my friend wears this perfume often and I love when she enters the room enveloped in a Mauboussin cloud. But I didn't know how the scent would develop on my own skin. Anyway, I thought it wouldn't hurt to spend the 24€ on a full bottle and it does not disappoint! It does smell different on me, or maybe it smells different from close by? Still, I enjoy it very much. A little bit like the original Moschino / Anne Klein II perfumes - a powdery, dry amber + vanilla. Very elegant and feminine.

I like most perfumes and seldom have visceral reaction to fragrance as much as I did to this one. I used to work for a company where the sales team worked in an office that hadn't been renovated since the 1970s. The reception office was covered in wall-to-wall copper brown shagpile carpet, and it was even up the walls! The reception desk was made from brown exposed brown brick and everything about it felt like I had stepped back in time and not in a good way. Their office smells of porous brick, dank carpets and age. I immediately thought of that office when I first bought this perfume. I could not scrub it off fast enough! I really gave it my best shot but it smells so old and musty and stanky, skanky and dated. I sincerely hope it was just a dud one because the rest of the fragrances from this range which I have bought have been lovely.

I am still puzzle by this perfume longevity / sillage ratio .. on my skin longevity is nearly non existent and I am an oversprayer whereas the sillage is absolutely incredible ..

Cigarette ash tray first impression. Put away in cupboard. Tried every now and again and eventually more flowery amber sweet nuances became apparent. For two years I appreciated it and really liked it. In the third year reversed back to cigarette ashtray. Nothing sweet, amber or floral remained. Simply had to bin it.

It’s quite nice. A great benzoin/patchouli fragrance. Beautiful bottle and very inexpensive. Like most amber resinous based fragrances, it’s close to the skin, but still decent projection. It’s not groundbreaking, but there are fragrances that smell like this that are 100$+

What an absolute beauty! This smells like stronger, slightly deeper and darker version of Chantilly by Dana an I am here for it!! It's all in the mid & dry-down. Power house! I smell the citruses at the top and then incensy smokey boozy plum-patchouli- vanilla. The sophistication of it all!! This smells like a rich aunt who owns a lot of expensive antique furniture, but I absolutely love that, because I'm an old soul. This is the best blind buy I have done in ages. The quality for the affordable price is just unreal! I feel like this could have been produced in 1920 to 1955, that's the level of sophistication we're talking about here! Woah! If you love Chantilly by Dana, you're going to love this! I feel like I need a backup straight away, and I only used it once!

If you have poor dexterity in your hands, this bottle is going to be challenging. The lid is tight and hard to get a grip on to remove, and the bottle is difficult to hold one handed. The perfume smells wonderful though, with lots of resinous, boozy, juicy plums and lashings of ylang ylang. Sillage depends on how much you spray, and on me it lasts for around 8 to 12 hours.

This one is a perfect winter scent for those who like patchouli and balsamic scents. I don't really get as much plum or amber, benzoin yes. All in all to me there's way too much patchouli, but I'm not particularly a patchouli fan altogether, if anything I prefer dry patchouli or it in men's fragrances.. It's super long-lasting.

Edit. This perfume is a creeper. I've started to crave it. Once I did, Then it started to unfold. There are some reviews here that capture this perfectly. It's like a genie in a bottle. So complex & actually timeless. It's like a honeyed rose chocolate version of Kenzo Jungle and I'm here for it. Well I don't get Angel so there's that. But there is patchouli holding the line, like a soldier..and this perfume is strong. The afternoon it arrived I sprayed once. That was good. Twice, still good. Should have stopped there. But couldn't help myself. Then boom, my nose was broken. It blew up my sense of smell, for the night. Be warned. This is dark chocolate, vanilla incense and boozy stone fruit liqueur oh and patchouli.. dark dank patchouli, like the forest floor. But you have to be patient and you have to forgive the whisky bomb opening - which is a little terrifying. Going to put my big girl pants on tomorrow and test it out in public.. If Gucci by Gucci had an Intense Noir edition, fairly certain this would be it..

I was worried when I blind bought this perfume, that I will hate it, but my god this perfume is insane!!!!!😍 (glad that I didn’t let the negative reviews influence me to not buy it) I can’t believe how it is so affordable! it smells so expensive! Complex yet elegant and sophisticated. I am wearing it now, and I can’t stop sniffing my clothes. If I was blindfolded and smelled it, I would think that it is something from Guerlain, Estée Lauder or Cartier. You can smell pretty much all the notes listed, Amber, spice, patchouli , vanilla. Although it is complex, but it is well blended, and projects amazingly, and most importantly unique especially during the era of gourmands. Genuinely smells like a niche perfume. I can imagine this perfume on a woman who is a CEO, well dressed, with black smart trousers and blazer, high heels and a bold red lipstick. I would say though, it is perfect for the cold weather or fall. I am thinking of getting a backup bottle already!

This fragrance should be named darling, smells dear. Fruti chipre? Hmmm, Maboussin is beautiful ambery, smells much more expensive, than it is. This darling doesn't have a age group, it's worm Cosy, switnes is well balanced with excellent silage and longivity. This beauty every woman must to have. Great choice for cooler weather. A cheapie but a goodie. You have to love patchouli and spicy/smokey scents in order to love this. It’s blended pretty well and overall I get a deep ambery smokey patchouli scent. At times smells vintage, reminds me of a Chanel N5 fragrance.

Smells gorgeous, but you really must love patchouli. Mauboussin is a difficult scent to describe - the notes are simple and the scent smells true to the pyramid, but there’s this magical aura to it that is hard to capture with words alone. Mauboussin EDP encompasses fall to me and reminds me a lot of the scents I fell in love with at the start of my fragrance journey. I loved scents that were unique and had character, and this one fits the bill perfectly. My bottle is, I believe, part of the first reformulation (silver box, purple stars, possibly from 2012-ish). First of all, this is a fruity chypre. I can see the comparisons to Angel, what with the fruits and patchouli, but Maub is more like your cool aunt that could possibly be a witch than the luxury car and extravagant jewelry I’d associate with Angel. And, CAUTION, Maub is much dirtier than Angel in my educated opinion (see my resume: a lover of both vintage Angel and Maub). This is a powerhouse scent that repels the fragrance non-believers (looking at you, Glossier You, JHAG Not A Perfume, and whatever other molecules are out there, though I still do love you in a different way). I smell the autumn air, mystery, and a cauldron full of dirty patchouli, cedar, plum, bat wing, eye of toad, and monkey’s paw. Ok, maybe not the last 3, but you get it. Despite my very apt description above, let’s talk about what the scent ACTUALLY smells like. The opening can be off-putting if you don’t love patchouli as the first few seconds is immediately a musty, dusty, dirty patchouli. Plum comes out to play for a bit, which makes the whole concoction quite the fruity chypre, except for oakmoss, which I honestly would have loved. Fine, I accept that patchouli is the modern oakmoss in a chypre, but I love oakmoss, ok? It’s interesting to hear people describe the overall scent as dry because this phase smells quite wet and rich to me, like a plum and patchouli pudding or crème. And this plum is not a fresh one - it’s a very Grojsman-esque fruit, which is exactly why this scent smells vintage. It’s interesting to smell the Grojsman accord in this type of composition! It’s like Diamonds and Rubies, or Tresor or True Love done on a dirty patchouli base. The dichotomy of “warm hug” emulated by the Grojsman accord + the dirty base could be why some reviewers are so off-put by this scent and I don’t blame them! Slowly, Mauboussin EDP becomes less fruit-dominant. I smell this leather quality that people keep referring to. It’s kind of dirty and bitter and gives character to the scent. It also smells like the dirt in a forest, and I love that when I’m looking for the cedar in this scent, it’s there. But at the same time I can smell a sweet plum-wine-filled chocolate. How unique and interesting! And in fact, I think the “crème made of patchouli” description is quite apt, as there are several other scents with this exact quality (Francesca Bianchi’s Sticky Fingers and Maison Violet’s Sketch), which don’t exactly smell the same but definitely have this same “texture” that I love. I’m reminded of quite a other few other scents as well, which are listed below for brevity. So, yeah, that’s my review. All over the place, but in summation… * Full bottle of Mauboussin EDP circa 2012 Primary notes: PATCHOULI, plum What I smell: PATCHOULI (dirty), forest floor, chocolate filled with sweet plum wine, autumn, leathery, vintage-y Reminds me of: Angel, Sticky Fingers, Sketch, Decadence (Decadence is like Mauboussin EDP 20 years younger and transported into the future), White Diamonds Night (Grojsman accord + patchouli), True Love, Diamonds & Rubies Recommended demographic: Possibly 30s+ women but honestly anyone can wear it, I think even men would smell amazing with this one You should try: If you love hidden gem cheapies AND PATCHOULI, if you love the Grojsman accord You should avoid: PATCHOULI SENSITIVE folks, if you dislike very strong scents, if you hate anything that smells “dirty” (and if you think Angel smells dirty then you’ve got a good surprise in store if you try Mauboussin lol), if you dislike the Grojsman accord

This fragrance is surprisingly patchouli forward. It think that's where the many "ash tray" "leather" comments come from. It's a musty, earthy patchouli reminiscent of the one in Patchouli Antique by Les Néréides. The fruity and warm notes prevent it from becoming necromantic and provide a decent but not overwhelming sweetness.

Whomever could ever expect this won't smell like grannies. But it doesn't smell of intense, demented, potpourri obsessed grannies, so I'd say, anyone can wear it in winter, or for evening occasions. It seems to me, it's not too intense. However, I personally dislike that (probably "amber") sharp note which just hangs around. And it's not interesting to me in any way. But if I had a granny who wants something classical, but not expensive, I'd offer her to try this, it's not a particularly nasty smell. Alexandre J. Faubourg though makes a better granny, it's different, but it also smells rather dated. And for a tad more expensive granny perfume I'd offer Molinard's Habanita, which is, although extremely dated, is fun and beautiful.

I read all the reviews and watch couple of youtube videos und decided to blind buy it. I do no detect any ylang-yang or plum, but I do smell a very potent camphor aroma in the base, which I actually like. A light smokiness together with overyll complexity make this fragrance pretty unique, especially for the price It definitely makes me think of deep forest in the autumn. I do like old-school, strange, very zesty and fresh fragrances, but this one is kind of a stand alone. I like it and want to wear it more. Please try before you buy, I can see how some people hate it...

Comme quoi une personne ne fait pas l'autre, je trouve ce parfum tellement bon, aucun de mes autres parfums ne m'a valu autant de compliments, on m'arrête même dans la rue pour me demander ce que je porte, idem dans les magasins en caisse, à mon travail.Je pense que la chimie corporelle est vraiment à prendre en compte.Je porte des parfums lourds et capiteux en règle générale, genre coco, magie noire (version vintage, le nouveau est un fiasco total) ,femme de rochas etc...ou alors des parfums verts type chanel n°19, silences de jacomo.Vous l'aurez compris, les parfums actuels hypers sucrés,style sirops contre la toux, très peu pour moi. J'aime les parfums hypers feminins, orientaux ou verts, qui laissent un sillage, créés une aura, mysterieuse, sensuelle ou chic.Mauboussin by Mauboussin est un gagnant, c'est assurément une pépite, dans la veine des vintages. De ma part c'est un veritable compliment.
