Rose Prick

I received a mini of this, and my expectations were very low… It looks and sounds cute, but it’s nothing more than your average neighbourhood rose scent with a predictable twist… Yes, there is spice and depth, but somehow nothing about it had me intrigued or impressed. - Bhavna Darira

Smells like a cozy, warm glass of golden milk on a frozen winter night while the rose-patchouli incense is flowing through the softly lit room.

A dark, spicy, patchouli-laden, aromatic, slightly soapy rose. It's not a scent whose opening and ending completely differ, so let's call it close to linear. The scent isn't a pure rose, it's quite patchouli-supported. Its companion is a dirty spice. At first I thought it was cumin or coriander, but later when I looked at the notes I went with turmeric. Whatever this spice type is, it gives a BO feel, and this makes the scent a bit human and slightly sexy. The dirtiness doesn't come from indolic or animalic qualities, it's this spice that makes it that way. The scent gives off an aromatic vibe too (more so in the middle). In the opening of the scent the patchouli is in the foreground, a leathery patchouli, and from the very start it says "heyyy I'm a bold rose!!" This rose is "partially" gothic (I call these gothicling), dark, and if I were to assign a color, it'd fall into the deep red rose category (not baby pink like the bottle's color). The scent settled in quite a bit sweeter than I predicted. I think the reason for this could be tonka, and it had a slightly milky feel too (which also comes from that). In the middle a soapy feel comes to the rose, and this soapiness isn't like "pristine white soap" it's just soapy. I'd gotten the same soapy-rose feel in these: Rose de Jamal and Lyric Man. Longevity and sillage are very strong. Suitable for autumn/winter. In short, not a pure rose, and definitely not a watery soft realistic rose. A nice "Tom Ford-ish" rose with depth. Nothing justifies that price, though.

Personally, I think I've found the perfect rose. I used to love Armani's Rose d'Arabi, but this perfume surpasses it. The price too, by the way, lol. But don't be fooled, it's thanks to the Turkish May rose essence and Bulgarian ORpur (pure origin) that they used in this perfume. And yes, it smells like a real rose.

Sampled this totally blind and took a great big sniff right on my forearm Holy I almost sneezed everywhere in the store LOL. Anyhow it smells like rose oil and the interior of a spice cabinet: creamy wood and peppercorns and some starchy seasoning powders, particularly/specifcially turmeric (identified once I peeped the notes). So interesting. And unapologetically spicy, can vouch for the sichuan peppercorn note, it loses intensity over time but Yuuuuup that sure does smell like it. Turmeric is super prominent though so if you're not a fan, sample first

If you are expecting grandma's classic romantic, soapy rose, you are wrong: here the rose bites. A pinch of pepper and freshly vaporized earth, the impact is pungent. Sichuan Pepper and Turmeric create a cold, almost vibrant spicy opening. It's not the usual citrusy onset; it is a reminder of the earth and the thorns that protect the flower. The heart of the fragrance: The "Triangle of Roses" The true protagonist is an opulent bouquet composed of three fine varieties: Rosa di Maggio: Sweet and honeyed. Bulgarian Rose: Intense and liqueur-like. Turkish Rose: Spicy and deep. Together, these notes create a "fleshy", dense and incredibly realistic rose, which dominates the central scene. The base: chipré elegance as the hours pass, the fragrance settles on a base of Patchouli and Tonka Bean. Limited appeal. The first 20 minutes smell strongly of rotten flowers and infested wood - to my nose, extraordinarily unappetizing. It smoothes out over time - too much time for this to be anything but a curiosity, and it still retains a gross rotting undertone. I understand the appeal, but this is no blind buy.

This one is great. Rose is one of my favorite notes and by far my favorite floral note. This has a fantastic rose note. Probably my second favorite rose I have ever smelled (Jo Malone Red Roses still reigns supreme imo). Definitely leans feminine but I think can be worn by anyone. Excellent one to pick up/look for quality dupes.

I usually like Tom Ford fragrances, but unfortunately this one is pretty horrible to my nose. It's a blindingly bright and screechy rose that isn't tethered by any deeper notes, which I think is desperately needed. The best analogy for what it feels like to wear is this: the next time you're in your car, turn the bass all the way down until there's only the sizzling treble of the music and nothing else. That's Rose Prick.

I have always loved rose scents. I was looking for a true rose that's strong and not powdery. I blind bought this and I really love it. I honestly don't detect any other notes. It's just straight up rose to me. I've seen reviews in which people say it is powdery, but it's not to me. I find the scent to be very calming. It lasts for a while too. I like to spray it on me before bedtime and I can still smell it on me in the morning.

This is some incredible stuff! As a man, rose fragrances can be hit or miss, depending on your individual body chemistry. Mine happens to be one that can wear sweeter or even certain feminine-leaning fragrances and as such, this particular rose fragrance is a winner! Tom Ford managed to balance the sweetness of rose and the spice of sichuan pepper beautifully to create a scent that is truly unisex and versatile, both as a stand alone smell as well as one that can add depth and different aspects of character to another fragrance. This is one I keep on deck for a variety of uses

There are a number of peppery, spiced rose fragrances out there. Some market trend must have enjoyed that profile once, I generally do not. Having said that, Rose Prick is actually a moderate and balanced representative of its genre. It is still far too fresh to be an enjoyable rose, but at least it's coolly fresh, rather than burning. That makes sense, Sichuan pepper actually produces a numbing effect when added to food. The hot, spicy reputation of Sichuan cuisine comes more from the frequent use of chiles. I feel about Rose Prick's fragrance the same way I feel about its awkwardly punny name: It's not in anyway shocking or offensive, just rather unnecessary.

This was way too strong rose candle on my skin. I had to instantly wash my arm. I really like TF fragrances but this one is just a no.

Very impressed by this scent on a tester strip, complex unsweet pure rose with a spicy breath coming through BUT after trying this on my scent on my body it was absolutely no rose coming through pressing even pressing my nose to skin. Oddly enough the perfume immediately evaporated on skin within minutes and only left a chemically citric note behind. Very disappointing as I love the concept and it performed well on a test paper, unfortunately I'm not too surprised as Tom Ford has become known for high price points and extremely poor longevity and silage but even this was a new level. I would recommend don't call me rose by house of fanatics in lieu of rose prick, similar concept but excellently executed and performs very well at a lower price point.

This is truly a knockout rose fragrance. It's so addictive! I got a 3 ml sample of it a couple of months ago and it was love at first sniff. I love rose and patchouli notes, so having them together is a win-win for me. My boyfriend loves how it smells on me, so he gifted me a 10 ml travel spray for Xmas. It's definitely full bottle worthy, though! I hope TF never discontinues or reformulates this beauty.

My husband gifted this for me for christmas. I told him he could "always get me a Tom Ford," and he remembered! This wasn't on my list but he thought it smelled good, and I agree. I love powdery scents and I also love rose, so this is a win-win. The pepper is perfect in this too. Overall, grateful for a man who knows how to shop.

Tom Ford never disappoints when it comes to making a unique fragrance and Rose Prick is one of them, the blend of of different roses and peppers creates something that feels out of this world. It's highly feminine, but a confident man could easily pull this off, it's not for being shy and timid. Tom Ford always has distinct notes and creates a sense of sophistication that is unrivaled by its fragrance peers and can't be truly replicated by a dupe. Rose Prick has the downside of not lasting as long as most people with about 3-4 hours of good projection and still stays on the skin in close contact. If you can get your hands on this scent either discounted or you're really just like that and buy it full price, I'd say it's worth your money. Anyone that is buying Tom Ford knows what they're getting into.

When i first got this it smelled a very peppery rose i loved it, today I all i smelll i powdery rose, I hate power smells so disappointed that it doesn't smel like yesterday. Maybe it will smell better tomorrow . I didn't know what notes are giving powder?

This is a gorgeous rose scent. The initial pepper opening dries into a vibrant rose with a creamy undertone. I think a hot pink rather than a soft pink color would match what this scent feels like wearing

I used to love this scent but I’m not smelling the depth of it anymore. To my nose, it used to have somewhat of a heavy patchouli vibe but now it’s just very rosey ( not fresh leaning / not dark leaning ) just rosey … maybe I’ll put my bottle up for a while and retry later in life - maybe I’ll fall back in love with it.

I thought I was going to love this but on my skin, I’m getting way too much tonka, which I hate

I received this as a gift, and I really hated this perfume the first times I've tried it. The opening was prickling my nose and made me sneeze. After a while though, it started to grow on me. I still don't like the opening, but afterwards I find this scent quite pleasant.

Very nice calming rose smell with warmth from Tonka Bean smells lovely and positive clean and sexy in a subtle way
