Gardenia Petale

Sampled this from my mom's bottle that she never uses, it's a subtle gardenia-ey watery musky floral scent, powdery around the edges. It's pretty one-note, and the performance is also really quite poor. It's pleasant enough but nothing special... I really don't think it's worth the price simply because of the performance, think levels of ephemerality worse than Aesop: I have 2 sprays on each forearm and I can't smell it at all unless my nose is above the skin.

Testing this from an unlabeled decant, which unfortunately set the tone. The scent itself is a thick white floral—soft, petal forward, and not terrible, just not my lane. The gardenia is thankfully not sour. It’s fine, pleasant enough, but figuring out the unlabeled decant made the experience feel more chaotic than the perfume deserves.

Beautiful light fresh floral scent. It's for women but damn, it's too good not to wear as a man too, something I very rarely do. It just smells so calming and fresh that in the summer I can't not wear it. Also good performance. I sprayed it on clothes and smelling it two weeks later. Granted I did like 8 sprays, but still.

I love this stuff. Let me bathe in it, I don't care how much it would cost! No, seriously, I could bathe in this. It reminds me of Chanel's gardenia fragrance, but this is a little stronger and lasts longer (with a better price point). This is a wonderful white floral, gardenia scent that I think can be worn all year for any occasion. It's an easy reach for me, very easy. If you enjoy white florals, you'll love this. It's got the sweetness one craves from white floral fragrances without the screech or sharpness some can have. It's buttery, yet so light and addictive. It has a nice green, woodsy note at the start then dries down to a simple, gorgeous sweetness that's intoxicating. It's not soapy at all like a lot of gardenia scents can be (looking at you, Elizabeth Taylor). There's nothing synthetic or or plastic about it either, it's very natural all the way through. A lot of reviews say it doesn't last long, but on me, I found that my nose got used to it. I was getting compliments after I stopped smelling it, so it lasts much longer than it seems. I highly recommend this fragrance to anyone looking for a gardenia or white floral scent. You won't be disappointed. I blind bought my bottle and I'm so happy I did! It truly is a perfect gardenia perfume.

Very pretty but the dry down is too powdery for me.

A sleeker version of Chanel's Gardenia. It's as sweet but cleaner and lighter. A nice inoffensive white floral scent.

Picture a morning in late summer, maybe 8:30ish, the fall chill is on its way but it’s comfortable and the sun is beaming, so the air is very crisp. You’re sitting on outdoor furniture (probably wrought iron) so the chill imprints on your legs. You have a bowl of cream of wheat and there’s a piece of butter right in the middle, melting like a small sun — you’re in a very secluded garden of gardenia, jasmine, and lily of the valley - very crisp and fresh / fragrant flowers, that becomes stronger as light breezes go by, everything waxes and wanes.

Pillowy, deep gardenia that really draws you in but unfortunately it dries down to complete fabric softener/dryer sheets on my skin

Probably my favourite gardenia. True to the flower in its creamy fully bloomed version. Supported by sweet type of jasmine with green nuances that hint at lily-of-the-valley. The citruses are interestingly in the background. It is light, creamy, soft, with medium headiness but still near narcotic. Perfect for spring and summer, lovely for summer evening. I feel like a princess wearing this. In style it reminds me of J'Adore but with gardenias.

I’m surprised more people don’t mention the sunscreen vibe this gives off, there is something metallic, like a high end sunscreen scent. Reminds me of a fancy woman laying by her pool. Not a realistic or natural smelling gardenia.

Gardenia Petale is a truly beautiful, creamy, sweet, classic and elegant white floral forward fragrance. It’s on the light side, very airy, solar and transparent, with a hint of green nuance, but smells so good. When I wear Gardenia Petale I think of colour white. The most pure, crisp, immaculate shade of white…. Obviously, you need to be into gardenia and jasmine to like this scent, but it’s really beautifully done. Possibly, my all time favourite gardenia dominant perfume! In my opinion, it’s a very safe blind buy for those loving gardenia. Ethereal, pure, bright, white florals, elegant and classy. This Van Cleef&Arpels line has some gorgeous and underrated perfumes. On social media, I rarely hear people talking about their scents, but from what I’ve tested so far, I liked or loved most of them! Sebastian, The Perfume Guy, has highlighted these fragrances in two videos, one more recently posted …Otherwise, total silence! Maybe it’s because most of them have been launched a while ago, and people moved on to newer, shinier things, but they smell spectacular. Naturalistic and light, but while they last on skin, I personally feel like I am walking through a lush garden filled with flowers in full bloom during a warm, sunny day when I wear both of these. So far, I have only acquired California Reverie and Gardenia Petale but I have set my eyes on three more. For summer time, these Van Cleef&Arpels perfumes in clear bottles are just right. They are very airy, radiant, joyful fragrances, the kind to be worn on a breezy, warm summer day/evening.

Simple yet pretty. Heavily blooming Gardenia trees. It’s a smooth and soft gardenia, doesn’t feel intense or heady like the actual flower. You smell the leaves and the whole tree , I guess. It’s very simple but pretty. Perfect for spring and summer .

Don’t love it when first applied, had to wait till it softened a bit. Then it was a decent clean (but not soapy) white floral but not sickly sweet.

This is a delicate gardenia with no sharpness. It's clean and fresh, but also sweet. It does seem a little mature, despite the freshness. To be honest it seems like a very easy reach fragrance. If you like white florals, this will be up your alley.

I tested this fragrance several times. First impression is orthodox church myrrh, is sweet for me definitely more feminine. Beautiful white floral, not sharp and obnoxious just sweet and comforting.

A fresh, creamy Gardenia scent filled with the breath of Spring. This is the scent recommended for girls who love Gardenia flowers, love nature and follow a gentle style. However, the price is a bit expensive, and I find the longevity of Gardenia Petale not really good compared to its price.

This is a pretty white floral, with gardenia as the dominant note; but it is by no means a gardenia soliflore, because it contains hints of other white flowers, such as jasmine, freesia, lily-of-the-valley etc. Although white floral fragrances can be very heady and overwhelming, Gardenia Petale is a complete opposite: it is dewy, transparent, pleasant and office-friendly. The downside is that the scent doesn't last long (it barely passes the 3-hour mark) and projects very softly. Those looking for a gardenia-bomb will certainly find it lacking; on the other hand, those looking for a simple floral everyday scent can find better (and cheaper) alternatives elsewhere.

It somehow deepens during summer. When I was wearing it during spring it was more sparkling, green and fresh, but during summer it turns sultry, yet still somehow innocent. Out of gardenia, we have only the best ascpects - the creaminess and slightly bitter edge softens by citruses. I can feel waxiness, too, as if the gardenia was Tahitan. It is now less fresh, more romantic and sensual. I like it during spring, I just might need to update to love.

This is a cute, watery white floral perfume but it is not a photorealistic gardenia like Kai. It's delicate, girly, and light-wearing whereas a real gardenia is heady and intoxicating. Gardenia Petale is pretty but it doesn't scratch my gardenia itch.

I've had a bottle for over 10 years and I've barely worn the fragrance. I remember sampling the perfume, and especially on paper I thought it was a very realistic gardenia scent, with that mushroomy note and all. Unfortunately, on myself I don't get gardenia but a cool, synthetic, slightly green generic white floral. It lacks the heavenly creaminess of gardenia, but has a sharp clean note instead. Doesn't smell like any particular flower to me (or on me). I don't know what to do with the bottle since I really don't see myself wearing it. Such a shame.

This is such a lovely, creamy and smooth gardenia scent, almost like a gardenia-suede feel. It's very pretty and sleek - almost too perfect for me, as I equate this scent with someone very well put together, perhaps a bit buttoned up, and far more prim and proper than I could ever hope to be. Yet, it is an absolutely beautiful example of a gardenia/ white floral forward perfume, with decent longevity and intimate to moderate sillage. I've managed to finish my 75 ml bottle over the course of a couple years, and while I've enjoyed my time with this charming scent, I'm not sure I'll feel the need to re-purchase.

Really get that LOTV out of the gate. This is creamy and very white. The gardenia is soft and fresh. I feel like the jasmine keeps trying to take over. And it (unfortunately) kinda does. I still get the gardenia but it’s buried a bit. Not crazy sweet / cloying which is nice but it isn’t what I was looking for. Very pretty if you are looking for a daily light white flower perfume with a little gardenia. Pretty linear in what you see is what you get. **I came back to say this turned a little powdery about 2 hours in. Super soft fluffy powder. It’s nice. This perfume feels very soft and feminine to me on the drydown.

My wife owns this particular fragrance which admittedly does not worth the price point that you are paying for due to the fact that does not last so much long. In general, I fully understand that the scent profile is quite unique, hence it is a niche scent, however has various downsides, especially the overall price taking into consideration of course the sillage along with the longevity

Currently wearing this in rainy humid city, and still expect a miracle so I can see this in different vibe rather than watered down version of dyptique doson edp. The gardenia gone in 5 minutes and leave you not even with any jasmine or LOTV but it leaning towards tuberose even when it is not listed in the notes. For the price point, the longevity and projection is moderate. Again, if u already have dyptique doson, no need to buy this, just use your doson.

This perfume is really classy, it's a beautiful dewy, wet and green floral. It's a wild and creamy gardenia. It reminds me the perfume Kai edp but with greener trail. I'm trying a sample and I love it, I've just ordered a full buttle. I think the Collection Extraordinaire by Van Cleef & Arpels is amazing, these fragrances are very subtle and great quality.

Such a beautiful floral soft and warm. Smells unique but doesn’t last long whatsoever. Sillage is close to skin. Great fragrance for spring.

I tested this in my local fragrance store a couple of weeks ago and absolutely loved the dry down where a full, rich and creamy gardenia emerged - couldn’t stop sniffing my arm! Just bought a full bottle and am wearing it for the first time today. It’s a lovely gentle floral, stays quite close to skin on me but after three hours I’m still aware of it. It’s summertime here in Australia and this is a great option for the warmer weather.

Smelled better in the bottle than on my skin. Too bad for it seemed fresh and floral. On my skin it ended up harsh and somewhat synthetic smelling.

Something underneath this reminds me of Nag Champa incense. It’s really faint and I might be pulling out that scent , but it’s like floral soap with that toasty incense barely noticeable from the back bedroom. It’s really a beautiful fragrance, but I can’t do it for my memory with that incense. It still smells incredibly beautiful! That bit of toastiness is gorgeous! Also! This smells nothing at all like California Reverie … nothing.
