Amouage Memoir Man feels like wandering through an ancient forest after dusk, where incense drifts between weathered trees and forgotten rituals linger in the air. It is dark without being oppressive, mysterious without resorting to gimmickry, balancing bitter herbs, cool woods, leather, and smoky frankincense with remarkable precision. There is very little sweetness to soften its edges, yet it remains deeply compelling—its beauty lies in its shadows. Rather than announcing itself, Memoir Man slowly unfolds into something contemplative and almost spiritual, evoking solitude, memory, and the quiet weight of time. It is a fragrance that doesn’t simply smell good; it creates an atmosphere so vivid you feel as though you’ve stepped into another world.

This one has a mysterious darkness that’s hard to pin down. It smells like pride with a streak of arrogance, green and black at once, fresh yet gripping. And on top of that, it lingers for well over six hours.

I have seen the rumors that Amouage has allegedly discontinued it, but it is still available full price on their website. I pray like absolute hell that they never discontinue this fragrance. It is my favorite fragrance I have ever smelled. To me this smells like a rockstar. It's dark, it's smokey, it's mysterious, but in all the right ways. 100/10 masterpiece

I think this smells much better than another green-leaning fragrance from the brand, Enclave. Yes, the scent is very different from the opening to the drydown. The first 15 minutes are a bit challenging, but then it transforms into a green, woody fragrance. It’s a scent that those loyal to the brand and looking for something more wearable would likely reach for. For me, though, there are much better options at this price point.

Анонім

It is not discontinued yet people, you can still find it on Amouage, But be quick & grab a bottle as it might be gone soon! Also for the Amouage Golden era fanboys / girls out there like me. Amouage made huge profits in the past year, and i heared rumors that they want L'Oréal to buy them out. That means in a couple of years, Amouage will really be a hyped up "niche / mass appealing designer brand... Grab anything you can from the Chong era!

As a devoted lover and proud owner of Memoir W, I really didn't like M at all :( Apologies to those who love it. If the problem were wormwood, I wouldn't have liked W or Hexensalbe. The problem here is the combination of clashing warm spices, a milky kind of feel and a burnt rubber smell... Rather than a fresh aromatic vibe, I'm getting strong sandalwood, burnt-out olibanum ash, and herbal-lavender dominance, plus a polished wood and leather feel. But something is seriously bothering me. Especially in the first few minutes my stomach is turning and I'm blaming that on the burnt tier I mentioned. People used to use that term for some smoky scents in some places and I'd think "how does that even happen?" Well, it does happen, apparently :) Anyway, with this rubbery feel combined with an over-the-top sandalwood, this became a perfume that got shelved into the "won't be played" category early on, before even unlocking its achievements. I understand why it's seen as a masterpiece. After all, in my eyes, aside from the recent nonsense, most of their scents are powerful, sophisticated and quite successful. So I couldn't bring myself to hit dislike... Tag(s): spicy, milky sandalwood, rubbery, wormwood, herbal

@Arber Cami you're out of your mind.

To my nose, this smells very similar to Bentley for men Absolute Woody, smoky, very cedarwood forward, slightly spicy fragrance from start to finish. Very linear fragrance. Not bad but if you like this dna , go for Bentley for men Absolute for 7 times cheaper. Longevity on a recent batch is 5-6 hours...

Анонім

Damn @skylerx performance only 5 hours? Mine is the older batch with memoir written on the cap, and last easily 12 hours. :/

Memoir Man is currently one of my top three favorite Amouage fragrances. What really stood out to me is its dual nature. It feels like it has two distinct facets that shift depending on my mood. When I’m feeling low or introspective, the darker elements of the scent come forward and almost mirror that mood. When I’m energized, the freshness, especially the mint, becomes much more noticeable. At its core, it’s a dark fragrance, yet it has a unique ability to lift your spirits. While the scent itself stays consistent, the way it makes you feel changes from day to day, which gives it a certain quiet majesty. I would describe it as a modern fougère with a distinctive twist, driven by its mint and green notes. It could work as a signature scent, although wearing it every day might become a bit tiring over time. It definitely leans toward the bold, more intellectual side, offering a complex scent profile that still feels relatively approachable on the surface. Compared to Enclave, which leans more into an amberwood-heavy profile, Memoir Man feels much more natural. It does have some drawbacks, mainly its longevity, which is around five hours, even less.

Memoir Man is dark, intellectual, and unapologetically bold. It opens with an herbal, slightly absinthe-like greenness, then sinks into smoky incense, leather, and a bitter-sweet backbone that feels mysterious and almost gothic. It’s not mass-appealing ,it’s a mood. Think dim lighting, black tailored fit, quiet confidence. Here are the real notes from Amouage. Top Notes: Absinth, Artemisia, Basil, Mint Heart Notes: Rose, Frankincense, Lavender Base Notes: Sandalwood, Vetiver, Guaiac Wood, Amber, Vanilla, Musk, Oak Moss, Leather, Tobacco

When I wear memoir man, I’m transported into a courthouse. I’m sitting outside of a courtroom, on a hard and cold wooden bench, and I’m observing the people walking by me. The air feels uncomfortably cold and piercing, and I can’t seem to recall why I’m here or when I got here. I’m wearing a long and dark water-soaked trench coat and the smell of the earth is clinging to my clothes. There’s a gray haze filling the air like a dream or a distant memory. Memoir man feels uncertain… But that’s the uniqueness of it. When I wear it, I feel important for a reason I can’t describe, and that’s the beauty of niche perfumery. You aren’t wearing a fragrance, you’re creating a story (or starring in it).

Nose Note #846 I first had Abraaj Memento, and I don't know if I'm dissapointed, but this dirt cheap dupe was so damn close to this. I've run out and can't compare them side by side, but just from memory - man, it gives you the same experience. Now, Memoir Man is slightly sweet, Memento didn't have any sweetness. Memento had this earthy/tomato/wormwood note amplified (which is actually really cool), whereas OG paints a bigger picture. Overall, Memoir Man is just a much more complex experience, but I can't say it's worth almost 12 times more. If it was at least 5 times as expensive, I'd say just go buy Memoir Man. The worst thing is the performance, it doesn't stick to me at all. Performance is just above average, but rather strong if you overspray (10+ sprays). Sillage is a bit more than intimate. So, one of the quietest Amouages, and I have almost all from the Mens line. This is a unique thing, just like every Amouage fragrance and I wish there was a better dupe. Fragrance World/French Avenue can do just outstanding things, 99% close. Memento is 85-90%, which is good enough, but Amouage feels deeper, definately more oily. The only drawback for me is this slight vegetable sweetness, but Memento didn't have. 8.2/10, it still deserves a higher score, it's just nothing else I've tried

The most heart breaking scent I have yet to try. The bitter green opening is one of my favorite experiences in all of perfumery, reminding me of breaking through verdant green brush in the dry undergrowth. These notes give way to a smokey leather tonka that is calming and familiar. Unfortunately the green opening has transitioned in <30 minutes and the perfume is undetectable after 2 hours. This is with 5 sprays from a decant across my chest below the collarbones. Compare this to other amouages that are oft derided for their performance: Dia man gives me 3x the sillage and 5x the longevity and jubilation XXV gives me 5x the sillage and 5x the longevity when sprayed comparably. I do not ask for much. I am a fan of quieter perfumes. The above two are in my top 5 of all time, but this is a memoir of a dead formula that seems to have been murdered.

@KingDuly Who says it's discontinued?

Анонім

I must second Cologneinhaler below: Having sprayed from a sample, from a reputable site I have used for years, Memoir Man’s current formulation has hardly any projection. Smells good, but muddled and only marginally better than quite cheap concoctions from the hippie paraphernalia store in my neighbourhood 35 years ago. It is not what I expect from expensive high end perfumery. It seems discontinued too, there are no stores in my country keeping stock anymore. Might be a story of an undignified exit due to reformulation and indifference. Pity. There is something hidden in there that I really like.

Анонім

Just got a sample and although I love the fragrance/scent, the projection is almost nonexistent on my skin. Weird as I have never had that experience with any other amouage fragrance. I got this and imitation man as samples and imitation man was projecting but this one wasn't; maybe I got a bad sample or something. But what I can smell I like, it's smoky nature is pretty addicting. Edit: bummer on projection, as I would definitely buy a bottle if it projected slightly more. Scent profile is unique and very good.

Анонім

Sucks they discontinued it, but I got my bottle before the $400 price mark ups. The best part is the opening! To me, the opening smells like a smokey mint chocolate drop. I wish the opening stayed throughout the whole fragrance. It drys to a beautiful bonfire type of smell, but that's not normal wood burning. It's wood from like an 800 year old, moss covered Elder tree from Middle Earth! Smokey, Green, Mysterious. Eternal smelling on clothes. For better projection try overspraying. I get a 10 hour scent bubble

Анонім

Where have you been hiding. Wow what a scent. When I first spayed I thought who's smoking a dubie???? as is dries down woooooooow unique and absolutely BEAUTIFUL. This for me is a masterpiece.

Анонім

One i kinda didnt “get” at first. But its really kinda understated and lovely. Opens very green and herbacious before settling into this lovely incense and dry tobacco to my nose with hints of that rose popping through. Decent moderate projection for 4 hours or so then settles into a wonderful skin scent almost up to 10 hrs for me. The drydown brings out more of that realistic dry tobacco. Not a sweet tobacco much more reminiscent of like tobacco toscano by smn.

Memoir Man reminds me of being in a musty, creaky attic with a wooden chest. Inside it, there's a bottle of Creme De Minthe Liquor. I step outside on my back deck to take a shot with it where woods surround the perimeter, the air is cool, cold, muggy but still, because it's snowing out. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite Amouage and is my scent of the day. If we've ever smelled Ormonde Jayne Man, it bears some similarity to that one at first. This is such a haunting but beautiful scent like being greeted by a friendly ghost...so good!

This is an excellent cold afternoon fragrance to wear out shopping or for brunch. It has that beautiful Amouage incense that we all love paired with some light, fresh aromatics that come alive in the daytime sun. Those aromatics stick around the whole ride. I had 4' projection for a couple hours and then it settled in to a nice scent bubble for a total of 6 hours. A perfect winter afternoon fragrance. 8/10.

Анонім

Okay this is beautiful. I love a green fragrance and I couldt decide about this one for some time due to reviews. But this is so good! Fresh mint opening, such realistic crunched juicy mint mixed with basil with slightly smoked rose-floral mid notes on a woody base. So incredibly good! It reminds me of both - Torino 21 and You or someone like you, were they inspired on this one? This is so much rich tho - the greenness fluctuates between mint and artemisia to oak moss, shining with fougere undertones. Definitely full bottle worthy for me

One of the most perturbating promotial videos realized by Amouage under the direction of Mr. Cristopher Chong is the one for Memoir: really unheimlich. A young woman and a young man dressed completely in black are close to each other, but it seems they cannot perceive the other presence, especially her. We may think, once we see the guy surronded by a blinding white light, that he is dead and she remembers him...the theme of memoir Contraddictory fragments of notes put toghether to give life to an harmonious modern interpretation of an aromatic/leathery fougere. The opening is a masterful blends of bitter herbal green leaves due to the artemisia; the freshness of a tangy mint with something brigh, deep, and resinous emerging from the base. A stunner. The effect is drinking a shot of absinthe like in Douce Amere, but instead of the sweetness of the tiarè,I get the darkness and the bitterness of a hint of licorice. Absinthe and your hallucination begins like in the promo short video. The genious touch of a dry and dusty lavender mixes with the herbs to give you the fougere feeling; a dark rose comes and goes. The Omani frankincense surrounds you at times pungent, at other times more citric. The woody base relies on guaiac wood, which is a difficult material to handle and theen the comfort of sandalwood. The base is at the same time balsamic, resinous, and leathery. A leather as if some castoreum was in there. The latr stage of the drydown will be a vetiver-tobacco green smokiness. Karine Vinchon engaged in a very creative process and made me like the man in the promo: lost (in a dark forest). Bottle from 2011. Follow me on IG @alexolympia6

Beautiful scent. I’ve been ignoring this one for some time mainly because of the reviews, now I understand that it was a mistake. It is different from other Amouage fragrances, for me it smells a bit like a mixture of Jubilation and Decision but still not similar to any of those. It is not very obvious, it evolves multiple times on skin and I love every stage of it, especially how mint plays very important role in it but all the time it is in the back, supporting other notes. Concentrated version of Memoir would be a banger and an instant purchase for me.

To me this smells like pencil shavings with a light minty touch. I love it.
