Azzaro pour Homme

TIMELESS Oh my friend, as a die-hard Drakkar Noir fan, it's like asking a Real Madrid fan for their honest opinion of FC Barcelona, and vice versa. But since I'm truly in love with this gem of a fragrance, it's like choosing between Mom and Dad... I just can't! Azzaro embodies elegance, mystery, and sensuality without shouting "here I am" like Drakkar, Kouros, or One Show Man. It's a true timeless gem, elegant and classic with a Mediterranean touch that reflects the elegance of our land (I'm from Spain), with a sophisticated touch that allows you to wear it on any occasion with complete confidence. From my perspective, it evokes many types of men, from the young man in his 20s who is just starting to figure out who he is and where his life is headed, who douses himself in this divine scent to impress his girlfriend, to the man in his 40s who simply continues on his path without pausing for a second to notice those sweet and vulgar desert perfumes that, UNFORTUNATELY, are so fashionable lately. I use it in three seasons, except for summer here in Japan, where the humidity literally limits this perfume (and 90% of others). I can say that its longevity is 24 hours (it lasts forever on clothes), the sillage is strong without reaching the levels of Drakkar Noir. The projection for 2-3 hours is very strong but not intrusive, and the scent is a true masterpiece. Millennials to Generation Z: -Looking for elegance? Buy it. -Looking for versatility? Buy it. -Looking for just one perfume? Buy it. -Looking for an essence that exudes sensuality? Buy it. -Looking for personality? Buy it. Don't overthink it, man. If I had to start my collection from scratch, this and Drakkar Noir would be the two I'd have in my closet. I'm not sure what all the claims of this being weak is all about, I can smell it on myself the next day, even after showering! In fact this is the case atm since I wore it yesterday, I can still smell it on me as I type this and that's with just 3 sprays on my neck!(I usually do 2 because of this.) Projection is also moderate to strong.

1980s in a bottle • Always pictured Azzaro Pour Homme as the scent of action heroes from my childhood (those with hairy chests!). • My dad wore this occasionally, and it was part of my 2025 Christmas nostalgia haul, alongside a few others. • Unapologetically manly and complex aromatic fougère. The caraway and star anise make it stand out vs. others. • Performance is ~6h, with moderate projection and sillage. It used to be stronger than that, IIRC. • Azzaro Pour Homme stayed true to its roots, and it was not affected by reformulations as much as many others. • TBH, I've no idea when I'll be wearing this (it's showing its age), but looking at that bottle brings fond memories.

This it's a watered down version of the OG, my axe deodorant last and proyect longer, a truly shame

Not a fan...not "bad", but not good either. Smells a bit old/dated.

Smelled this on a guy today and it was intoxicating! It was like a cloud around him. Very soapy but there's a sweet amberiness along with some woods. Very nice. I read this was an early use of Ambroxan.

While we got pretty humid summer this year I figured a frag that used to be part of sweaty clubs, bathouses and saunas might do. And it did without any pardon. There were options, as usual, to add something into my personal curated selection that is rather heavily built around specific years, dates and themes. Azzaro pour Homme dates back to 1978. A creation made for Loris Azzaro who as a designer made it big among Hollywood stars and frequent clubbers of NYC, I mean, how cool this fragrance must be if his life was all about glamour and gloss? And even though I am not acknowledged of previous reformulations and neither of the very original one, Azzaro pour Homme served as expected. Big time. Sweet, animalistic and unbelievably versatile, both for experimentation in layering just as let it stand on its own. It lasts solid part of day and feels close to skin after 5 hours or so. Sometimes, I do re-apply, but more often it just goes in favor of switching from morning or noon scent I take to work into scent I prefer to wear after work. The smell is intoxicating. Hot beast. Current signature cuz I am absolutely breathing disco and vibe with all these breakdowns.

My only complaint with this cologne is the performance It's barely noticeable after spraying, and becomes a skin scent in like an hour or two tops Which is a damn shame because the smell itself is immaculate

Cheap classic barbershop, nothing more and nothing less. Dry down is nice though. Not for me! 4.2/10

Unfortunately, I’m not a fan. It has a nice lemon opening that actually stays throughout. It’s spicy and rich. All good. However, my nose picks up a mix of scents not unlike a urinal cake. I heard a few reviewers mention this and I thought they might be a little hyperbolic, but they weren’t. The lemon’s staying power mixed with the spices is its own worst enemy.

Ts smells dank, absolutely rancid. Don’t get me wrong I love the classics. Drakkar, Kouros, Antaeus, Lapidus, even Paco PH. But this is awful to my nose. Smells like dirty old man to me. Can’t do it

Versatile, formal and timeless This fragrance has a quite characteristic musky and lemony smell that somewhat is fresh and can be worn in most weather conditions and most occasions (mostly formal), it's quite versatile and somewhat timeless, only letdown by its performance. It doesn't last very long, it doesn't project that good but it gets a few compliments. Blind buy it if you like fresh musky scents but be aware of the performance.

Finally! A classic, masculine scent that doesn't smell like Fruit Loops or the beach. Reminds me a lot of Tuscany by Aramis. Smells like you just summoned an associate to a sit-down. Warm, musky, manly and delicious. The only con is it tends to fade after 2-3 hours. Projects better and lasts longer if you spray on clothes. There's a reason this is still around after almost 50 years. One of the best blind buys I've ever made.

I purchased a 6ml vintage 80s splash bottle from ebay for way too much. I am considerable let down. There is no performance whatsoever. The top notes are still there. It is quite unique with the citrus and star anise, but with 8 sprays, its a fleeting moment of scent. 7.5/10

Azzaro Pour Homme is a yummy cooling anise (liquorice-like) shaving cream scent. It is not sweet, but has a comforting foam quality to it. Unlike some old-school barbershops, APH remains modern because of the fresher, smoother notes. It's a classic masculine scent, in the same ballpark as Drakkar Noir. Very well blended. Not particularly flashy or interesting, but just smells high quality and put together. I sampled a 1997 bottle so I imagine it has more naturals in it than the modern formulation, but still, a solid scent overall. I like it better than Drakkar Noir. Solid 8/10.

So so damn good! I have two back up bottles (so 3 in all). Sandalwood, vetiver, anise, lavender, spices, shaving foam, black amber aftershave, powder, resins, etc. Objectively it belongs in the top 5 all time greatest fougeres and subjectively I personally put it in the top 3. Incredibly comforting effect on self and those who smell it. Nice respectable projection and good scent duration. Never a skin scent. It rocks until the end. Compliments. Timeless. I think it is fine for any age as long as the wearer has at least a little bit of spine and courage in whatever form. I don't mean mean macho bravado. Any season day or night in colder months but only at night in the summer. In the must try category for any halfway serious collector. Stronger and longer lasting than Paco Rabanne PH and modern Polo edt. I guess some people can get a bit nose blind to it but for an edt I get nothing"watered down" about it at all. Does not smell at all like Obsession which is cloyingly sweet (which isn't necessarily bad but very different from APH which is sharp spicy resinous wood). And Paco Rabanne Pour Homme is a more traditionally green minty lime grass fougere but yes also very much a shaving foam scent. PRPH will do better in the day time and in high heat and is probably more work place friendly. PRPH has no amber to speak of and that is kind of the glue that holds all of the other ingredients together in APH. APH is the darker and more mysterious of the two. I definitely don't think that it's redundant to have both if you love fougeres. But if you do think of most barbershop fougeres as old man scents or too bold then obviously this won't be your cup of tea.

Smells like an old man. I'm 40 on the masculine side and I couldn't pull this one off.

I hate to disagree with Shamus below but I just cracked open a new bottle (a 6.7 ouncer) and it's weak as hell. Okay in the top notes, but within fifteen minutes the stuff dries down to a hush of dried-hay coumarin with a hint of lavender and anise that weirdly reminds me of the base of current Obsession for Men, which I feel has also been tampered with a little aggressively. I, too, recall recent bottles from the last ten years or so being just fine. So it's possible that (a) my nose and not the fragrance has changed, or (b) I have a bum bottle, or (c) they just watered down Azzaro pour Homme to the point of no return. I guess it's also possible that my bottle, being the large size, may need to mature a bit, so I'll let it sit for a few months and come back to it. There is, however, a caveat: prior bottles smelled richer and more defined, but also a bit difficult for me to wear, and I could never do Azzaro two days in a row. With this new bottle, I could easily wear this stuff all week and it wouldn't bother me. So, silver linings. Update 4/26/26: Ok, let this sit for a while, air in bottle, and cracked it open again for a wearing. Didn't take very long, but the composition has strengthened and the lavender is now more dimensional, with that familiar anise-driven ambery middle more recognizable as Azzaro PH. Far better than the first few wears. I'm going to chalk my initial impressions of the latest formula as being simply a case of desperately-needed in-bottle maturation, which by my lights has definitely occurred and brought the quality up to par. Still not as strong as I would like, but getting there. I imagine when this massive 7 oz bottle is half-gone, the fragrance will have bloomed into something fairly close to vintage. So, if you have a new bottle and you're not loving it, give it time.

Azzaro has the soapiness of Paco Rabanne Pour Homme with a leathery animalic accord similar to Yatagan or African Leather but less intense. More wearable than both but I find African Leather more interesting. It's definitely a fougere but it doesn't make me think of a barbershop. I have a feeling this fragrance is inspired by the American Frontier -- I get imagery of a dirty, sweaty linen shirt, leather, false front buildings made from untreated lumber, and rudimentary spices.

If you own this, no need for Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, and vice versa. This is probably the more refined of the 2. Same retro territory though. Soapy, musky, flowery with some nice anise that fades before long. This is my first day wearing it. I might grow to love it, but I rarely wear Paco, so probably won't wear this much; as i prefer in Winter to Spring, things like- Polo Green, Mousse Iluminee, Chanel pour Monsieur EdP. Guerlain vetiver, Habit Rouge, Terre d'Hermes. This stuff is sharp, whereas those ones are smoother and I prefer that. If you're a PRPH man, you'll probably appreaciate Azzaro PH more than i do. But as I said; I might grow to love this

Applies super brisk barbershop that made my dog go crazy lol. Exceptionally clean cedar dominates. I have to admit a shampoo note dives in, but I weirdly don't hate it. Mentholated vetiver is invigorating. Brisk mint drives top note while mossy, papyrus mid balances in a unique way. Becomes dewy green melon skin. Not too musty, balanced just right. Overall, it settles great and unique. Softly spiced wood, moss, with mandarin orange pith. Starts a little too dusty, but that goes away and becomes the perfect balance of wood and macerated fruit with nuance. Great strength on both skin and clothes. This brings my nose back more than most, so by that merit it's worth trying even though it's not quite a personal match. A peerless classic regardless.

Very high quality stuff but its weak on me. I love the spiciness, the anise, the masculinity of this. I have to overspray this one big time.

This review of a vintage 7ml official splash sample from the 80's that I paid $20 for on eBay. This is clearly not what I expected it to be. People say that it is this powerhouse hyper masculine fragrance that immediately makes you a Chad. It is not... I am however glad that I experienced it though. It really puts into perspective how far modern fougeres have become. Roja Danger PC, Guerlain Heritages, and Rougue Bon Monsieur are shining examples of fougeres taken to the next level, but the price reflects this. Pour Homme is still a fantastic fragrance, but its very linear and smells of cheap ingredients. I doused myself with 8 sprays and I am still only projecting about 2'. I am glad that I didn't drop $200+ on a full bottle as I considered it. If I see one for $70, I may consider picking it up just because I am a fougere junkie. 8/10

Back of hand spray. Basil, carraway, sage, and lemon…in that order. The lavender and iris come in slightly later on the open for me. In the middle I get that anise that was supposed to be in the open, along with cardamom, juniper, patchouli, and a mix of woods. In the base I find it gets progressively sweeter with tonka bean and amber adding depth to the moss and musky leather. To my nose it is a less sour version of Perry Ellis for Men EDT. I like it. Edit: I had to upgrade this to a love. The dry down several hours in is very impressive.
