Am I crazy or not? but this very similar to Scandal the original, not the same but very similar at the same time, So confused. it's something sweet, a lot of florals and the coffee notes is very faint, that's make the scent more like Scandal especially in the dry down. I've tested 6-7 times.
Elegant, warm, and sweet blend of spices. More understated than I expected based on the fragrance notes listed.
Our generation's equivalent of Chanel No. 5 (and I love it for that)
Timeless classic
The scent initially has a very distinct, paint-like/thinner-like/tobacco-like opening to me, which is a really unexpected smell for me. I was expecting an aromatic start with a blend of coffee and jasmine, along with sweet pepper notes, but instead, I felt like I smelled like a mixture of paint and tobacco. Within about 30-40 minutes, that paint-like/thinner-like/tobacco-like scent disappears, and gets replaced by a more floral-like fragrance with touch of jasmine. But honestly, I could barely detect any coffee notes. I'd say the longevity is about 4-5 hours on skin, not longer than that and that may be affected by skin chemistry; and around the ~5th hour, the scent gives way to a balsamic, resinous, or maybe even sourish base note, and I didn't like this base note combination much. The scent is nice around the 2-3rd hour imo., but I think it should be applied at least 1-1.5 hours before leaving the house to allow the scent to settle properly on the skin. I think it's clearly more suitable for evenings and cold weather. I found it way too intense for daytime and warm weather. I think the lack of promised coffee notes is clearly noticable in this one and it is kind of disappointing to me. 🤷🏻♀️ I'll probably prefer to use it during the winter months and occasionally for some dinners.
Some fragrances feel like home. Some feel like a quiet embrace. And then there are the ones you reach for when the night asks you to be a little bolder. Black Opium found me through someone who knows me well. It was a gift from my son, who somehow understood my taste before I did. Every time I wear it, I remember that beautiful feeling of being truly seen. Dark, addictive and full of energy, it carries a confidence that never feels forced. It's playful, mysterious and just rebellious enough to make me smile. This isn't the fragrance I wear to disappear into a crowd. It's the one I wear when I want the night to remember me. Some evenings call for softness. Others ask for a little fire. Black Opium is my answer to those nights. And every time I reach for it, I'm reminded that confidence doesn't always have to be loud. Sometimes it smells like coffee, vanilla... and a woman who finally stopped apologizing for taking up space.
i don't like it on my skin.. the coffee and licorice made it strong and dirty, almost like a cheap men's perfume and muddy scent. What's most frustrating is the white floral and almond notes with pear that went to waste, the patchouli unnecessary, More stable and intense in projection, the vanilla is wonderful, but the other prominent notes like cashmere wood and pink pepper make it pungent. I used it in 2018 i remember it was very strong now the longevity and sillage are weak.
This is a really beautiful fragrance. Right away you get a warm orange blossom scent and that blends into a sort of jasmine patchouli blend. It's very feminine and sexy. Definitely something to wear on date night!
i wore this all the time as a teenager, its a iconic scent but it does just smell like a club full of 16 year old girls, it smells like its trying to be sexy but it just lacks depth and maturity so it comes off as unrefined and im sorry...cheap
I love ysl black opium☕️🖤
yikes this was so bad. smells like rubber or dirty leather. the white florals are so strong it gave me an instant headache
so trashy i love it. unfortunately for everyone it lasts for 5 years on the skin and clothes and in the air. sometimes makes me nauseous. i don't reach for it as much anymore but it's so sweet and strong. confused by the people who don't get performance from this, maybe it was reformulated, mine's from 2023/2024.
Incredible perfume but the lasting power sucks
SO much hype and love all over the world and am I the only one not understanding what is it about?Feminine classical lovely fragrance, nothing out of the range IMO. The every day perfume.
Such a beautiful scent without any performance!
Smokey, spicy, and warm. Nice scent. Leans a tiny bit masculine. I can see me layering with the sweetest perfumes I own to tone each other down. I do LOVE the smell. But do I want to smell like it? 😶 I'm not sure. I rather smell feminine and sweet I think. Every time I have tried to wear this, I change my mind last second and spray something else. It's a sexy scent though. I wish I had the perfect occasion to wear Black Opium.
Recently got a tester vial to try and it is love at first sniff! Absolutely gorgeous scent. Definitely not something I would wear in the summer. It is a strong and seductive type fragrance and would probably be best in cooler months or for a date night. The orange blossom is beautiful and the dry down is a warm and cozy vanilla with a hint of coffee on my skin. I definitely need a big bottle!!
Used to be my favorite perfume before I realized the aromatic secrets of the perfume world. Very good for a sexy date or a cozy night out. Nothing special but respectable choice for the sensual cozy types.
Review- Black Opium is a warm, gourmound, fragrance that combines rich coffee with sweet vanilla and soft florals. Warm, sensual, and long lasting, it is an excellent choice for evening wear and anyone who enjoys modern gourmand fragrances.
smells like the better version of hypnotic poison but still smells like a bathroom diffuser
It has a nice, ordinary scent. It doesn't feel unique to me, and the longevity is average
Real women wear this. It's not for the kids. I love it.
So, as a man who generally prefers dark, masculine/unisex fragrances, I've wanted to try and explore more conventionally feminine scents. This is one I was curious about (partly for the bottle, not gonna lie) - vanilla/coffee/floral sounds interesting. This is like.... what's it even like? Like spilling 3 oz of leftover vanilla latte on the floor of a candy store with a vase of jasmine on the counter. How do they call this "Black Opium" when it smells like WHITE SUGAR? to me it's just a prime example of how a perfumer's intentions for how people perceive a scent is just utterly at odds with how the scent actually smells. The coffee note is all but nonexistent, at least on me. I get candy-sweet vanilla laced with white floral+fruity notes. There's nothing dark about this... it's allllll marketing... Its not awful! Its even nice. Of course, i don't really care for it by itself, but i could see myself layering it over something woody, or dark and resinous. Patchouli would absolutely work. Tried putting it over Demeter Pipe Tobacco - was interesting, but something about the dryness of the tobacco note didn't go with it quite as well as I'd hoped. In retrospect, of all the female-oriented perfumes in the world, idk why I thought this one might work for me. Hindsight is 20/20...
Ben bu parfumu koklamadan once parfumden koyu kahve vanilya sexy dark feminine bi koku bekliyordum kor alis yapip aldim acikcasi kotu kokmuyor ama asiri klasik sekerli parfum kokuyor yani cok olaysiz bence bu parfum gibi birsuru parfum var bence overrated bi parfum.
Another contemporary release that will be considered a classic one day. It's got just enough sweetness to appeal to the gourmand girlies, just enough florals to be acceptable to those "who don't do flowers" and the coffee adds a nice contemporary touch. Honestly, it's fine, nothing exciting and a perfectly acceptable fragrance.
absolutely iconic 2014 scent. The first perfume I ever owned in full size, begged for this for my 17th birthday and my Mom took me to Sephora to buy it. Smells like Forever 21, American Apparel. Sometimes I still spray this to feel something, but I would never wear it if I wanted to be taken seriously. That being said, I love it!
Beyond divine! Perfect for night out and definitely attractive.
I bought this again after 10 years and I am so much regretting it! Absolutely no sillage no longevity and no performance! Even on my Clothes! Such a waste of money!
Vanilla, coffee, sweet, white floral, warm spicy, soft spicy, woody, fruity, balsamic, powdery, rich, deep, dark, feminine, sensual, seductive, sexy, classy, sophisticated, mysterious, dreamy, delightful, delicious, alluring, tempting, addictive, intriguing, inviting, cozy, comforting On me, this opens with sweet and syrupy pear, soft spicy pink pepper, and citrusy orange blossom. The heart blooms with lush jasmine, rich coffee, and just a whisper of bitter almond and licorice. The dry down adds sensual and powdery vanilla, woody patchouli, cozy cashmere wood, and the sweet woody scent of cedar. Overall, it reads like a rich coffee swirled with vanilla with a woody depth of cashmere wood and patchouli. It has pear and orange blossom throughout too. At this point I think this has become a classic! It has a whole line of flankers, and most people have smelled this because of its popularity. It’s well deserved though because whenever it launched it was a unique new scent. I still remember how excited I was about getting a coffee fragrance! I still really enjoy its vanilla coffee aroma though, especially how it’s done in the Le Parfum flanker as a vanilla latte sprinkled with cinnamon! I really enjoy the Black Opium line! My favorite is Le Parfum followed by Glitter, and I own both as well as the OG. I like their Libre line as well, especially the Vanilla Couture and Libre Le Parfum. The feels feminine to me, and suitable for women of any age. It feels most fitting during the fall and winter because of its sweetness, and woody coziness, and depth. I think it’s most suitable for nights out and fancier occasions, but it also works for casual occasions. I get great performance with Black Opium. The longevity is very good, it lasts at least 8+ hours on my skin. The projection is strong, it radiates out at least a few feet from me. For reference, some of my favorite fragrances include Kayali Yum Boujee Marshmallow, Vanilla 28, Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar, The Wedding Silk Santal, Yum Pistachio Gelato, GdT Celeste, Bianco Latte, Kilian LDBS, Princess, Sunkissed Goddess, PdM Oriana, Tom Ford Soleil Blanc, Nest Sunkissed Hibiscus, Gucci Flora Gorgeous Orchid, Burberry Goddess, The 7 Virtues Vanilla Woods, YSL Black Opium Le Parfum, Guerlain Mon Guerlain, Summer Fridays Sunlit Vanilla, LoveShackFancy Secret Crush, Coach Dreams Starlight, JHAG Powder Love, Ellis Brooklyn Marshmallows, Queen’s Caramel, Vanilla Salt, Phlur Honey Moon, Heavy Cream, Vanilla Nectar, Beach Skin, SDJ Summer è Amor, 62, 39, VS Vanilla Lace, BBW Beach Nights, Boardwalk Marshmallow Clouds, Cotton Candy Clouds, Whipped Honey & Vanilla, Fireside Flurries, Love Unleashed
this was the very first designer perfume i ever bought and i still love it. it opens up fruity, and i cant rly say i can sense the pink pepper. my skin immediately pulls out the smell of coffee and the fuzzy cashmeran note. it dries down into a faint vanilla/floral scent that im fond of, and the woody notes prevent the perfume from becoming cloying all the way. a lot of people have compared this to loverdose by diesel, but to my nose that one gets rid of the sweeter notes of BO and highlights its notes of licorice. it also started my obsession with perfumes with almond accords. with all the notes i can pick apart it still somehow smells well blended. my only gripe with this is the poor performance
