Boucheron Pour Homme

Where to begin, this opens up in a vortex of notes. Heavy on the citrus vibe, which then comes down to more woody and creamy notes. After several hours it seemed to continue to evolve and had huge longevity for me. Brings me back to the 90's for sure with an old school feel. This is surely all over the place and if you can appreciate or tolerate that flexibility this could be a hidden gem for you. Not the easiest blind buy for certain.

Nose Note #1119 I'm writing this immediately after Rabanne Paco. Both are about the lemon accord, but how much richer is Boucheron, how much more elegant, classy, more serious. Just smells like a hard work. But it is definately 5 years more old fashioned. This smells like a transition between the pissy powerhouses of the 70-80 into the tolerable 90s. This smelled old fashioned. Very bar-soapy. Lemon is not very agressive, but it is very bitter like lemon peel. Much more piney than Paco. Performance is much better than on Paco, but it's not a monster 7.1/10

Fantastic mature gentleman fragrance that to me is timeless. Definetly recommend for anyone over 40.

My Story My story goes back to a time roughly a decade after this gem was released—back in the 2000s, a transitional era bridging the boom of the 80s and mid-90s and the current age, which is teeming with YouTube vultures and second-rate "influencers." I had a girlfriend who was absolutely obsessed with perfumes—especially Chanel’s *Chance* and the DKNY line (the "little apple" bottles), which were all the rage back then. Whenever we went to El Corte Inglés (Spain’s most upscale department store) and walked through the fragrance section, Boucheron held a place of honor right between Christian Dior and Chanel; it stood there like the Mayan idol Indiana Jones discovered in *Raiders of the Lost Ark*... It was a fragrance that evoked an aura of sophistication, elegance, and "old money" style—the kind worn by a 40-year-old man heading to a casino in Monaco. It didn't need flashy TV or print ads; its quality spoke for itself, and word-of-mouth cemented its reputation as a truly exquisite luxury product. It carried a high price tag—on par with Dior or Chanel—and appealed to a specific clientele, standing a cut above the era's heavy hitters like *Fahrenheit* or *Allure*. It was a masterpiece of refinement. I never bought it, nor was I interested in it at the time; my tastes lay elsewhere. I leaned more toward *Cool Water*, *Eternity*, or the aforementioned *Fahrenheit*. Of course, we can't forget that from the mid-90s onwards, unisex scents like *One*, *Paco*, and *Tommy* were dominating the market, while sweet fragrances were starting to gain traction—think Paco Rabanne’s *Black*, Carolina Herrera’s *212 Sexy*, or the iconic *Le Male* by Jean Paul Gaultier. Now, almost two decades later, I stumbled upon this gem in the recommendations on Amazon Japan—where I currently live—and saw it at a price that made my head spin: under 30 euros at the exchange rate. I simply bought it, and the moment I smelled it, it brought back that majestic quality I remembered and reminded me just how admirable this perfume is. It is literally a gem for summer—superior to Acqua di Gio; it is more imposing, more vigorous, and above all, has an "old-school" style that will surprise you. My thoughts Boucheron EDT is synonymous with the classic "old money" aesthetic of the 80s and 90s—full of strength, projection, personality, and elegance. It is a spring/summer fragrance featuring a Mediterranean note that is very hard to find in French perfumes. It reminds me a great deal of Armani Pour Homme, with that prominent citrus note; in fact, its "offspring"—Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme (1994)—was born from this kind of blend. For the new generation Do you have classic taste? Do you like dressing elegantly in summer—linen clothes, espadrilles? Do you like fragrances with a strong presence? Buy it. It’s available at an affordable price, and you’ll hold a gem in your hands—one that, despite reformulations, hasn't lost its projection. Buy it and thank me later! This is a good fragrance and certainly masterfully crafted with old school perfumery ... and for me, it "can" work for the most part. THE OPENING of this fragrance is PHENOMENAL ... it has my favorite citrus, mandarin orange. It also has more orange, blended with lemon and bergamot to top off one of the smoothest citrus/lavender openings for a Spring or Summer barbershop-ISH fragrance. For me this part was a perfect 10/10 but then the floral mids have so much going on ... perhaps a bit too much. The Ylang Ylang, Jasmine and Lilly of the valley made everything perfect ... until ... enters the rose. Unfortunately, it pretty much hits about the same time as the very aggressive (strong) drydown. It's interesting to note, from my perspective the somewhat rough drydown of Boucheron pour homme reminds me of the somewhat rough opening of Zino Davidoff. But truthfully, the massive amount of woody notes, especially the oakmoss, vetiver, sandalwood and incense was just way too much ... at least for me. When/if I do wear this fragrance it will probably be in the Fall and probably will be limited to 2 sprays only ... it's a beast! All in all for some people, they will really appreciate this fragrance, especially if they admire strong late 90s barbershop-ISH style fragrances. BTW ... I bought a bottle for my husband, who loves it, too. It reminds me a bit of vintage Dior Eau Sauvage, which I wore in my late teens without knowing I was wearing what was considered a masculine fragrance. Whatever: to me that citrus/hedione juggernaut was and remains sheer magic. Boucheron might be a touch woodier, but it's predominantly zingy citrus (lemon, orange, lemon verbena) and fresh green spices and herbs (basil, lavender, possibly cardamom or something like it). There is also a very appealing soapy aspect: more of a fine-milled French luxury soap of yore than some dreary "fresh" aquatic deodorant soap. I tend to have great luck with all the fragrances I have tried so far from the house of Boucheron, and this one is no exception. I'm glad I bought the EDT instead of the EDP because the EDT is plenty powerful, especially in the heat.

I personally wouldn't wear this in the heat of summer. That said the smell is good, performance is good. Definitely has a classic quality to it. If you're not into soapy smells I don't think you'll like this. But for me it'll be a great fresh out the shower smell. *Edit- I do want to say that the cap is very low quality

Sandalwood bomb like Pasha and Habit Rouge. Just as distasteful. Someone below whinges, "Some people use the word 'soapy' like it's a bad thing. I bet they haven't taken a shower in weeks" OK, moving past the ad-hominem there, be informed: There's a difference between smelling soapy, smelling like a soap product, smelling LIKE the actual soap, and smelling like the taste of being force fed soap in your mouth. People who are using the word "soapy" like it's a bad thing are meaning one of the last two or three. People who are using the word "soapy" like it's not a bad thing are meaning the first one or two. These sandalwood bombs I named are the last one. Soapy like it's a very bad thing. I don't want something that smells like You're Eating Soap®.

What a revelation! Citrus, soapy and aromatically fresh. A classic scent that stands up well today, in fact it stands out amongst an ocean of modern, samey fragrances. If you are a well dressed man (mostly) or woman, this is a scent to consider primarily for the warm weather but easily a solid pick-me-up for cooler seasons too. Had this a while but decided to wear today for the first time. An initial hit of citrus is pleasant enough but within a minute or two joined by the soapy freshness coming forward and sending waves of retro-chic perfumery to you and anyone nearby. The heart and bottom notes are an old time perfumers wet dream, all working in unison to provide a beautiful solidity that shows it's nuances throughout the wear. The overall effect is a lovely sillage that is hard to fault and difficult to ignore. Edit: the dry down is gorgeous. It still keeps facets of the opening but it's resinous, smoky and leathery although there is no leather note listed! It's very much a take on a Chypre with its own distinct identity at this stage. Lovely. Its a myriad of ingredients all beautifully blended to create something complex that will be many things to different people's noses, all captivating. Not only is it astounding for the price, it's an excellent fragrance full stop. An incredibly well made, elegant and high quality scent that is worthy of your attention. Especially if you value classic style over fads and fast, forgettable fashion. Definitely not for the younger guys and gals.

This is a nice alternative for Eau Sauvage. I prefer the EDT of this to the parfum as the parfum is more powdery/floral to me.

This review is for the EDT. When I am in the mood for an old school fougere/chypre, this is the fragrance I turn to. It's ridiculous the value you get for the price that this goes for, and it's not too old fashioned that I would feel out of place. For reference I am a man in my 40's so what I like might not be what a guy in his 20's would like, so take that into account. I prefer this over similar profiles like Bois de Portugal, 1872, amouage Silver, and Lalique pour homme (lion). This is honestly one of the best cheapies I own.

I specifically sought out the Eau de Parfum version of this classic. Technically, it is a woody chypre that occupies the same territory as Chanel’s Pour Monsieur, carrying all the hallmarks of the genre (soapy green facets, earthy undertones, and bright citrus). From a technical standpoint, the composition is well-executed. However, for my personal taste, it is unfortunately far too loud and dry. It lacks the smoothness and those low-key, effortless elements that made the great chypres of yore so delightful to wear. Instead, it feels a bit screechy much like listening to loud music played through bad speakers. The "volume" is there, but lost in the distortion and the projection and austerity here feel forced rather than refined. If you prefer your chypres with a sharp, high-decibel edge, this is a good enough. Otherwise, proceed accordingly.

I have a vivid memory of putting on the EDP and going near my cat, she took one sniff and ran for the hills. This is a strong one. Starts out with heavy lemon and turns woody. A mature elegant mans fragrance.

Citrus aromatic with lots of freshness up top and a decent woody shaving foam base. Not really much to complain about here. I get decent performance at around 5-6 hours, the price is cheap at discounters, and the bottle is well made. Atomizer could be better, it's a little inconsistent. In terms of scent, well, I'm not super in love with this one, but I don't dislike it in any way either. It's fine.

Personally, I really like this one but like many below me already mentioned, it really is a relic of the past. Even though it came out in the early 90's, it's more of 80's style and I think incredibly hard to pull off nowadays. It's something that could work on a well groomed man, wearing at least a shirt with a collar or just on a neat grandpa. Anything less than that will sadly make you look like a cheap guy with bad taste trying upscale with a cheap cologne. If you're looking for something similar but easier to wear nowadays, try Cerruti 1881 Men. I used it as my daily driver 10-15 years ago and was very happy with it.

There is a man for whom classically-embodied, clean, sharp, fresh citrus scents with a mild leatheriness are a literal personification of his entire projected self. For this man, there's a trilogy of fragrances he needs an, for him, his shelf can remain restricted to those three for a lifetime and will coalesce, in the noses of others, to his singular signature scent. That trilogy is Bijan, Versace L'Homme, and this. Where Bijan is his fougère, and Versace is his chypre, this is his "freshie." While there is no specific leather note, but the way the smokiness of the incense plays with the other ingredients produces the illusion of a subtle leathery backbone. The lemon verbana is beautifully vibrant. It's soapy without being obnoxiously hygienic. Well-balanced spices, green notes, florals, and citruses. Entirely adult and businesslike, without lacking personality in the way so many office safe fragrances do.

(Review of the EdT bottled c. 1994) A lot was going on in the world of perfumery on or about 1991. A huge shift was beginning as synthetics really started taking off and firms wanted to see their bottom lines shift as well, and men’s scents began going down the “freshie” and “aquatic” genres - chypres and fougeres were given the equivalent reaction of today’s “ok, boomer”. So, what did Boucheron do? They released a grand, statement making, old school (for that time even), citrus and floral chypre. You have to laugh. Whether being behind the times is due to cluelessness or principled obstinance, or anything in between, you have to chuckle when a firm clearly and willfully goes against the grain. Thankfully for us, Boucheron did. In Boucheron Pour Homme you have one of the best lemon openings of any masculine perfume, period. The reason why it is so good is because it’s… well… not just lemon. Front and center of your nose is a big, ripe, juicy lemon but staged slightly behind it is a sliced open mandarin orange and a bergamot. Sprinkled over the top are freshly picked herbal and floral lavender, and a slightly anisic and sweet basil. It smells divine, like an incredibly high-end lemonade. The fruits and herbs are given a huge dusting of powdery aldehydes. The aldehydes are big, round, feather textured and bold, and remind me a lot of the aldehydes in some early Amouage perfumes. Boucheron PH is not going to be a wallflower; it is confident and it wants to make sure you and it get noticed. The transition to the heart is seamless and near perfect. I could very nearly feel the perfume “sliding”, the transitions happening slowly, gently, a well choreographed metamorphosis before my very nose, as the hesperidics and herbs evolve into a gorgeous carnation, rose, and orris heart. The juicy sourness of the opening strings its way into the heart for a remarkably long time before ceding to the florals entirely for a classic soapy, clean, musky, and gently peppery white floral presentation. Then yet again, another slow slide transition to a floral chypre base where the rose becomes the prominent floral nestled in a bed of damp, woody oakmoss, animalic musks, and a creamy peppery sandalwood. There will of course be those who smell this and think of their dad or their grandfather. Ick. Why do I want to smell so old. Yes, it is quite retro - even for 1991 - but you wear this today for one or both of the following two reasons: firstly, because you like old school citrus floral chypres that make you smell very refined and classy, or secondly, because you understand that it’s genius stuff. The materials and the blending poured into it by Raymond Chaillan are barely short of precise artisan perfection. Every moment with Boucheron Pour Homme is a joy.

This is truly one of the worst smelling colognes I have had the displeasure of smelling. Its overly complicated, bloated and jarring. This is what people call a mature scent? It's just an excuse people use for scents that most people dislike. This smells like the end of the 80s. Just overly complicated and excessively strong. It starts with a kick of citrus, but quickly moves into a powdery rose mess. What man wants to smell like a rose bush that's been covered in powder and citrus?

Boucheron Edp, basically a posh version of Cerruti 1881, which starts a lot more green & earthy but here the profile is more relaxed on the green notes with citrus and soapy elements more at the front and centre which stops this getting over powering anytime. Boucheron is a perfect daily signature scent for every man in their 30's + and well deserving of a like thumbs up. Dry down especially has this really clean, creamy lemon vibe, easily the best part of the fragrance. Both this and Jaipur are really impressive scents, you could even call them hidden gems, well deserving of a place in any guys collection.

EDT version batch 06N16M216 from 2022: I find myself craving for this juice during the hot days of the year, it's fresh and full of life. The citrus in the top with that macho herbal lavender/basil/verbena combo, flowery middle with powder and some sweet character, followed by a base of smooth resinous woodiness. I've been missing out on this one.

Some people use the word "soapy" like it's a bad thing. I bet that they haven't taken a shower in weeks. I own the EDP version. It smells clean, fresh and great. For some reasons, it remindsa me of Dior Eau Sauvage EDT (at least the flanker I used to own); a bit less herbal and more citrusy and creamy.

A review of the EDP: This stuff is so good! Very classy, fresh, and high quality. Spraying this in the heat of Summer feels very refreshing. If I had to summarize how this feels: like a dip in the pool at a black tie Summer party somewhere in Italy/Southern France. I also want to comment on the value- this retails at discounters regularly for under $40 and it smells like it could easily sell for 10x that. Amazing stuff!!!

For a while I have felt ambivalent toward this fragrance. I've gone through a few samples of the EDT and bought (and later sold) the EDP. It smells of high quality, is quite rich and long lasting (especially for a citrus dominant fragrance), and is both complex and elegant. Nevertheless, over the course of a fully wearing, I always find it somehow repellent, eventually. I have experimented with applying very little (as Luca Turin recommends) but to no avail. Yesterday, I tried it again, but only sprayed it on my shirt lightly. I like it much better! In short, if you have mixed feelings about this fragrance: try on fabric!

Wow, this is pure class! If you love old school scents this one is done beautifully. It has a lot of lemon up top with florals rounded out by the oakmoss and sandalwood at the base. I'd wear this anytime I want to feel fresh.

I blind bought this EDP, since it's often compared to Cerruti 1881 pour Homme, which I like. They are not that similar: Cerruti is very green and fresh, while Boucheron goes on a more floral, soapy and Chypre direction. This is a very classic and mature scent from the era of powerhouse fragrances, and very different from the aquatic, gourmand, ambery and/or unisex scents that have been popular for the past three decades. Don't let the floral heart fool you: this is 100% masculine. It performs very well, and it can be worn anytime. It's a complex perfume that beautifully combines Fougere, Citrus, Chypre, Floral, Spicy and Oriental notes. It's also office-safe. I am happy with this fortunate blind purchase.

Boucheron for men EDP: This is a callback to 1991 for sure, but in the modern, grey era of all colognes smelling like sauvage derivative's, we could use a corded telephone call back to 91’ with a cup of coffee and a cigarette. It would encourage us to remember what we came from. They always say citrus when it comes to this one, when someone says citrus I think of terre de hermes, obsession, etc. Boucheron does have those notes but it’s so much softer, so much more pleasant..and certainly the old school elegance. A man of class would wear this, and a man of class I am. I reserve this one for extremely cold days..and evenings of course. In a world of black and grey…step out. Bring out the royal blue and gold…put on a suit, slick your hair back and Show her you aren’t afraid to be different.
