This is the smell of safety, confidence, fix-it-all, flat tire changing, plumbing repair, relaxing on the sofa, daddy's home kind of vibe. Spray this at pressure points and dominate as a father figure. 🦍

I still like this scent, the Middle Eastern perfumers should clone it into an extrait :). I remember my cousins wearing this whenever they painted the town red, and they were playboys with lots of girls. So the Brut I smelled are the older formulations, I don't know about the modern ones. Anyway, years have gone by, I forgot about the scent, until I tried Aventus recently. First spray, and even if it was far from Brut, it reminded me of the Brut scent - masculine, strong, woody, something I can't describe. Anyway, Creed and CDNIMs are my top scents nowadays, the first ones I reach for if I can't decide what to wear for the day.

This scent takes me back to the 1990s. It's the real smell of a barbershop. Old-fashioned magazines, a cup of tea in my hand, and this scent accompanying the atmosphere.

Good classic scent but very weak 🤕 I don't need it

Oh dear. Sprayed in the air, this is indeed reminiscent of Brut, and very pleasant; but on my skin, which I haven’t previously considered to be particularly akin to rhinoceros hide, it’s almost undetectable as a smell in under three minutes. Another once-great perfume slides into parody; it would be better just to let this die.

Musky Aromatic Oriental, somewhat creamy powdery even... It was not that powdery as far as I can remember, I can feel the difference, it's not the same as it once was, but it still fills my nose with nostalgia from simpler times. Great nostalgic value to a lot of people because of their parents aftershave - and their first aftershave consequentially.

Starts off like how I remember Brut smelling, but quickly turns vile. It's like a cousin of what I remember of Brut, but not a good cousin. I don't know what they did to this, but it's really bad. I don't even think it's a good value for $14, it's that bad. My nose is sensitive and I get a major headache from this. I get headaches from other perfumes too, but this stuff doesn't smell good either, like some other stuff that gives me headaches.

Versatile, fresh, classic, smells like you're clean, does the job. It's so inexpensive you can give it a try. I wouldn't wear this on a daily basis but this is definitely the best fragrance in this price range.

Fantastic is all i have to say. I have the AS, splash on, special reserve, also many vintage faberge glass splash bottles and a couple of the vintage brut 33 splash on bottles. Thier are many varients of the original fragrance and they all follow the root DNA. What we have now in uk in superdrug and sainsburys is was was called brut 33 then Brut Light after faberge dropped the 33. Even now after reformulations you still know its Brut. I did a side by side with a 1966 glass faberge bottle and the glass modern edt picture here. Despite the modern edt being somewhat more powdery and slightly synthetic the middle notes of ylang ylang and musk remains similar. The vintage to me smells alot more medicinal with stronger anis from the get go and the oakmoss and nitro musk keep it onn skin for about 8 hours. However. The modern aftershave is nice after a hot shave last 30 mins then gone and the square EDT last on me 3ish hours with gental wafts. Unilever have not destroyed it in my opinion but have had to do the best they can due to not being able to use oakmoss and nitro musk. (It still smells of brut) Vintage faberge bottles last 7 to 8 hours with one splash although not powerfully still quite subtle The vintage brut 33 starts off potent but dies off after 1 half hours Brut today as we know it.. aftershave strong blast of anise and lavender dies off after 20 mins but smells great. Splash on lotion. Strong blast of alcohol followed by lavender anise citrus dies after 30 mins more powdery then aftershave. Square edt. Last 3 hrs with 4 sprays alot more refind good amount of anise smells smoother alot more airy and sparkly very close to the Brut 33 of the 80s but without the sooty musk it is alot cleaner these days. All of the brut line are great for best results layer them all on after a nice bath and shave will have a nice vintage scent bubble around you for 4 hours. If pinaud clubman toned down the talc vibe and added anise and ylang ylang you would have brut 33;)

Very classy scent. Wearable all day/year long. Difference within its notes are not that noticable however, that Patchouli at the bottom is really noticable. 8/10

I've always wanted to try this one and know how it smells. My curiosity became too much and I bought it. It was really cheap. This had to be the " aventus" back in the days. I was expecting something harsh and heavy alcoholic scent. But surprisingly it is rather sweet and light with lots of depth or richness to it. It is a very familiar scent that kind of reminds me of those huge green soapbars from the past. I don't know how to describe it but basically every soap smelled like this when a was a kid. Bit it also reminds me of Invictus and Najdia some how mixed with some pine? In conclusion: It's surprisingly good being so cheap and outdated. Perhaps not my first hand choice to wear regularly but for occasions where you don't want to put on something fancy , this will do the trick. Think of it as those cheap deodorants except that it smells stronger and outdated.

Absolute classic, masculine, freshly shaved, showered type of smell. Timeless I would say, and definetly every day/signature worthy. A gentleman said "If it was good enough for Elvis, it's good enough for me." and he's absolutely got it right. If you don't like very green, classic masculine scents, I wouldnt recommend. Would re purchase, 7/10.

This doesn't smell like I imagined it would. The floral heartnotes really do dominate, though they are modified by various spices, woods, musk, etc. 'Brut' means dry but this is a fairly sweet scent. At first there is also a very distinctive note that I associate with Indian import shops, like a blend of savory spices, including cumin, which is not listed. I wish Fragrantica would let us vote to add new notes to the scent pyramid, instead of trying to have everybody shoehorn their olofactory sensations into the 'official' notes already provided... Afterall, fragrance notes are ultimately perception and can't be 'right' or 'wrong'. 'Barbershop' is also a meaningless descriptor, since evidently many, very different, masculine-labelled colognes were splashed around traditional barbershops. The drydown is not strong in sillage or duration, and continues to remind me of a vague array of spices, and floral notes, including the continuing presence of a lavendin-type lavender.

I did not know an EDT even existed but I bought it today at the flea market for $8.00 . This is quite nice in a Retro-Dad way . Kinda like the male answer to Jean Nate. This is fun & fresh - I cannot say anything bad about it - I'm almost giddy from the smell as the abstracted memories from the 1970s persist . That 70s Cologne Show starring (pre-Hulk) Bill Bixby , Mike Brady and Maude's husband Walter.

This is what a man is supposed to smell like. Brut is so unique and so beautifully done. It’s one of the best DNA profiles ever for men. I’m so glad my father put me on this because if he didn’t I would have never knew about this gem. It’s a lavender barbershop DNA done to perfection. Best thing about it is they’re going for like $15-20 a bottle, and I have 5 backups of them. I run through a bottle so easily because it is weak in projection if you don’t overspray. But I over spray and I love this scent when it’s over sprayed I’m talking 20-30 sprays since this stuff is like water. But after 20-30 spray mark it stays on you for an hour or so before fading out completely. 10/10 OG brut fragrance I will forever have a bottle of this stuff.

Heard it from my grandfather, heard it from my mother and father so I decided to give it a go for my vintage collection. Unfortunately, maybe the formulation has changed SO MUCH that it only lasts for like a half an hour on my skin. Surprisingly sweet, nothing ultramasculine about it. Maybe it's being used by so many manly men and barbershops back then have gave people the idea that this is the epitome of masculinity. To me, it smells like wet wipes. Like the pink floral ones. Super sweet, somewhat refreshing, somewhat bubbly and clean but other than that unfortunately there has been nothing that amazes me. Sweetness, powderiness, a slight medicinal freshness and nothing more. Although could not lie, after I gave myself a nice, hyper clean shave I used some Brüt on me and it felt amazing. Maybe that's the code in my brain working, telling me that I am doing something true. Telling me that this is the way, the way of a man. Super low longevity, super low performance, radiates worse than a cologne. But it smells well. It feels good. It's still here for a reason, isn't it?

I had it in the tall plastic bottle in the mid 70s and wore it with indifference as part of my adolescent shaving experience. Just tried it again, in this glass bottled EDT version, and it stinks. Maybe it has gone bad. It's been laying untouched for a few years in the back of a cupboard. Forgive my ignorance, can the chemicals in Brut turn rancid? Cloying, sweet, overpowering, with just one spray at middle joint of one arm. It's an unpleasant sugary lavender that won't scrub off. My eyes are a bit irritated and there is a slight headache, because it has triggered my neck arthritis, which has also brought on tinnitus. Not a happy camper here. Caveat: I was already wearing Eau Sauvage, 2018, EDP when I sampled this- so it's possible they reacted in some way causing issues It's possible I just don't get along with this stuff. It might be great on the right person

Oh man this is where all started for me, first ever fragrance I owned, that time I was 11 years now 40 years. I know there are lot of good perfume now but this is always greatest for me. That time compliment magnet 😂😂😂.

Fresh, generic, your barber shop fragrance. kinda old head vibes. smells strong, synthetic but lasts 2-4 hrs. for the money it is something

Those who know how to appreciate this classic dna and knows the history of Brut will know. After all, it is still selling so well after 60 years. It's scent and it's dna and notes are still smelling good for today's gentleman. It is still so very inexpensive and anyone everyone can afford it. It makes anyone wearing feel fresh, gives ones the needed pad for themselves. You'll never know how many families got started and generations they have with this cologne and how the men attracted the girls with this cologne back in the days. My dad wore it. I wore it as a teen and even as I grew older. Decades later, I still like it and always keep a bottle or two in office and home to spray and smell the everlasting smell I am so familiar with. I wish they had something stronger or a modern brut edp or something special is released that smells exactly like Brut. I have this cologne aka Edt original and the special reserve. Kinda prefer this still. Used to just so splashes with the old splash ons too. Those who knows and appreciate Brut will knows. Those clueless who acts high class and give trash comments are deem worthless and useless.

This is one of the few perfumes that I put on ''disaster'' level. It is so bad, so cheaply synthetic with anise and ylang ylang and it is hilarously sweet, on the same level as Joop Homme in terms of how bad it is. Would not wear this even if someone pays me to do so, doesn't worth the pain my nose has to go through. 1/10

I'm reviewing the currently available scent. I have the clear glass bottle with the concave sides and labeled "Original". The juice itself is a pale yellow. According to the Brut web page (brut-for-men.com), the EDT is available in two bottles: the one I have and the old style green bottle which is plastic. The notes given there are: Top Notes Neroli, Basil, English lavender Middle Note Fern, Geranium Base Note Sandalwood, Patchouli, White Musk All that said, I did get a strong anise scent mixed with the lavender which I didn't care for. The anise stuck around for quite some time - took maybe about an hour until it diminished enough that it didn't bother me. So, it really didn't work for me. Overall performance was average. It lasted about 5 hours for me and the projection was moderate after the first half hour or so. Not something I want to try again. Brut is going on my declutter list.

In my opinion, Brut Green perfume is more beautiful and has a stronger scent, but in terms of price, both are cheap.

Fresh, cheap, classic, summer fragrance. I might have gone through 15 bottles of this nostalgic scent. Currently staying away from it, but man this has a magnetic effect on me.

Call me crazy, i feel as Amouage Reflection Man is based on Brut. I'm not saying it's a dupe, but as if someone took Brut and made a high quality flanker = Reflection.
