One of the frangrances that surpass time, incredible it has a 1990 stamp. it is warm and spicy, I find even a bit boozy trace with a chocolate. I dont like rose in fragrances but here it is very safe and the rosewood is great. It is not loud, no problem to wear in the office in colder weather. Great for social evenings. I think it inspired Cartier to create Pasha parfum version in 2023.
What to even say about a masterpiece like this? It's a warm, spicy and seductive sandalwood/cinnamon fragrance. This is worn by a man who has nothing to prove and is so confident in himself that he creates his own gravitational pull of elegance and class. It smells like an alluring CEO or board member of a fancy schmancy company attending a formal event in the 90's.
Such a pleasant surprise. When the store didn't have it I tried the platinum version which is nothing like it and very "meh" and familiar. This one is more unique, manages to be musky and animalic but still modern and light. It has very gentle spicy/nutty aroma and a touch of sweetness Makes me think of nutmeg intuitively.
One of the most beautiful release of the 90s. Nearly anachronistic compared to every other massive success of the era. Could be released in a Tom Ford bottle right now and nobody would question it. Really really good.
well i bought the wrong version of this thinking it was the plantinum and since it's the summer, this shit blew my nose away instantly. this is very mature, and very occasion specific. not for me. opens up with a strong cinnamon, almost animalic rose under it. should be worn with a suit.
Egoiste took me a few wearings to really enjoy. I'm not used to strong sandalwood notes and I have always struggled with them. In fact, before egoiste, it was one of my least favorite notes in perfumery when used front and center. I don't know what happened but after about the 3rd wearing something about the sweetness and warmth mixed with the creamy, fresh woodiness has captured me in a way that very few fragrances have. This is just a beautiful masterpiece and I now know why it has such a legendary status. Absolute 10.
It smells like ginger and a farm, weird combination but overall I like it
@parki love your review, the brain part especially ;) resonates with my relation with this masterpiece.
mostly just smells dark and woody without any real characteristic to me. it gets a little better in the dry down when some of the lighter notes come out but besides that, not for me.
I think this is the most feminine masculine fragrance in the designer category. I used to get more cinnamon from older batches, but the newer ones are more rose-heavy, which makes them easier to wear in warmer weather. To my nose, the opening is dominated by mandarin and rose. Some might even call it unisex at this stage, but it gradually develops into a sandalwood-heavy fragrance during the drydown. One of my colleagues once said, "It smells like someone lit a sandalwood incense stick somewhere." As a result, it has good sillage and projection, and I'm satisfied with the longevity as well. The quality is excellent. It's a classic fragrance that remains relatively uncommon, allowing the wearer to stand out from the crowd.
very spicy, slightly sweet and musky with a touch of animalic warmth. Very retro and old-school masculine, mature and classic. Not really for me, but I can see why people love it. Definitely has that timeless masculine vibe. 3/10
Perfectly unisex in my opinion. I keep coming back to it at Chanel counters and need a bottle! Very classy without being retro/vintage. Perfect combo of aldehydes and spices, not heavy. I think it is very versatile- any age, any gender scent. Oh and at dry down it turns into Allure EDP for women. Very similar vibe.
I think I finally found it, this may actually be the one, I cannot remember the time I smelled something that made me feel some type of way This is like someone wondered into my brain, had a look around what's going on there, bit by bit, and came up with the absolute perfect scent that completely and instantly connects with me. This smell connects the neurons in a part of my brain that rarely ever fires It opens up strong, confident, unapologetic and full of class and character, idk how to put it into words, this fragrance just WORKS for me The scent profile, is sensational, if you took the word "class" and made it into a scent, this is the closest you're gonna come up with I love it, and I think I found a signature scent after flipping through hundreds of pages and owning bottles that barely have any dent in them for years. This is also supposed to be an old fragrance, surprised I haven't smelled it up to this point because WOW... I really love this stuff. Thank u
the scent of a refined non american man
This is okay! Its wood and spice opening reminds me a bit of Jacomo de Jacomo, but it sits on a much softer, musky base.
My first. One of best if. It's a 10/10.
Chanel knows how to make a unique classic fragrance that is going to be timeless, this is no exception but try it first don't blind buy it. Also this is different than his brother platinum egoist.
Mona Lisa among scents.
Yes, it's a classic but Chanel's Egoiste is simply a work of art. Standing up extremely well in a world full of hype, passing fads and fake culture. The scent; It opens with a woody, spicy, warming blast joined very quickly by an exquisite rose. Masterfully supported by myriad of ingredients including gentle citrus', a touch of cinnamon and an assortment of florals, spices, woods, leather (I think), amber and vanilla. Combining to construct a rounded scent, quite unlike anything else I've experienced. Chanel clearly know what they are doing and perhaps the very best at making traditional perfumery that stands the test of time. You only have to look at Pour Monsieur, Antaeus and Platinum egoiste (+ many more) as testimony to their excellence in this genre. I know the Ingredients sound extensive and complex but it's so beautifully executed and blended to perfection, giving a fragrance that is very much rose forward (to my nose) but never completely on its own. There is always another element that'll come drifting by every time you opt to wear this scent and move about. It's an old style EDT and easily rivals many modern EDPs in strength, sillage and longevity. Relying on its quality ingredients and masterful construction rather than resorting to industrial and agricultural chemicals. 😂 Noticeable over arms length for hours, then around arms length for a few more comfortably. You'll have a solid, reliable bubble for the best part of a day and more. It'll see you through, no matter the task. The sillage will waft past anyone within a metre or two as you cross paths. Trust me when I say that all the right kind of people will notice, enjoying your trail. It's definitely for the older man, quite easily a woman too. Both past the first flourishes of youth 35+, understanding that not everything has to be full on, instant and light speed. This is a scent that will be enjoyed by people who literally like to "smell the roses". Strangely, I can see high powered professionals and business people utilising this scents distinctive aroma to it's full effect, just as much as someone who is out and about for leisurely pursuits. It's very versatile by it's nature. Wear on all but the hottest summer days or nights. Although considered a little warming traditionally, it's delicate enough by modern beast mode standards to be considered all year and at any occasion you may wish to wear it. It'll definitely be a fantastic companion through the cooler periods though. If you are of a level headed nature, who truly understands and enjoys the finer things in life then this could be a signature scent. It's captivating, elegant, individual and compared to the vast majority of modern offerings, wonderfully distinctive and honestly, a lovely break from olfactory assault. I only tend to buy perfume that I've tried, tested and adore. Living with them doesn't always work out but Egoiste can and quite possibly should be a lifelong addition to your scent wardrobe. A masterpiece for the ages.
I don't know what’s about this perfume that i like. I will always keep it in my collection. Classic. Longevity 9/10 Projection 9/10
Dear "Lukasssss", You began by saying "not gonna (going to) lie". It begs the question, do you normally lie? This doesn't smell dated whatsoever. Just because it doesn't smell like the usual boring release like Yves Saint Laurent MYSLF, that smells like hundreds of other fragrances, doesn't mean that it smells dated. It is a fragrance of a time reflective of authenticity.
This has similar facets to Musc Ravagueur; sweet, floral, slightly citrusy, spicy and somewhat musky although I will add, the 2 do not really smell much alike. The musc (funk) is apparent from the off and I'd therefore deduce it's mostly coming from the Mahogany, Brazilian Rosewood and Coriander (or a combination of 1/2 of them). Once this funk subdues, I am left with a fairly close, spicy scent (this is spraying onto clothing and not skin which I don't personally do). This is a colder/milder weather scent suitable for day or night. I’m not sure about the comments with regards to needing to be a particular type to pull this off, for me, it’s a classic, timeless style of scent that could be enjoyed by anyone. In the modern day world where all niche fragrances have a dupe, I don’t think the price is too bad at £109 RRP. This would be a worthy addition to any collection.
For some reason this is extremely popular among Dutch people. To me it therefore became the equivalent of of the orange colour, fauve-like notes chiselled around cinnamon sandalwood accord- a real winter-survival kit. Pretty intense and to some noses cloying. The aldheyds and herbs make Antaeus fresher in comparison. Not my cup of tea but understand the charme. Jaques Polge considered this the natural evolution from Antaeus, and you can clearly see the transition to Allure. This is brand identity at its finest.
110 wearings and over half a bottle deep and it's firmly in my top 3. Seems shockingly strong now too.
Sweet, floral, creamy, even slightly gourmand. Not ULTRA Masculine. Opens up somewhat modern smelling but dry down reveals that aristocratic, undeniably vintage character, like a French gentleman. And I'm not a fan of it. It turned sour which I assume is carnation. Not the most nose-friendly note today.
Unfortunately, it has a scent that's too similar to some mosquito repellent sprays and makes it not work for me at all.
Egoiste feels firmly rooted in 1990, predating the age of sweetness, projection, and algorithmic appeal. Its bitter citrus and spice opening sets boundaries, while a dry, architectural rose leads into disciplined sandalwood with leather and tobacco making it polished and restrained. Enduring not through nostalgia but coherence, it reflects Jacques Polge’s precision and stands as one of his most timeless creations.
It smells like & reminds me of Woodward's Gripe Water, if any of you are familiar with that :) ^Free Palestine^
Not everyone will like it or love it , clearly not for young guys (except again ....if they have goals) , i like it because i love more Allure Homme Extreme and Platinum Egoiste , i got lucky and found an old bottle batch , much different then this new batches , very well blended and balanced , mature , elegant , better wear it with a suit and then you will understand the statement that gives , mostly i get is Cinnamon , Vanilla , Rose , Sandalwood (amazing how well and natural smell) and some woody notes , definitely an 9/10. Sillage 4/5 Longevity 4/5 Versatility 4/5 For an EDT this old batch is amazing!
I am new(ish) to wearing Chanel Egoïste (a couple of months), but its warm, spicy-woody notes of sandalwood and cinnamon, rose and vanilla are so well bended that the final product feels like more than each of its components. It feels timeless. It has great longevity, 8+ hours, on my skin, with a classy, elegant, smooth, masculine, slightly mysterious, and quiet projection. Perfect for evenings or cooler days (i.e. right now). BIG love 👍👍👍👍
