If an angel came down from the heavens and dusted their wings above you, this is the scent that would fall from them. It’s church pews, summer dresses, a spring breeze in a field of blooms. If this perfume were a person, it’s Joes Mother in the movie Simon Birch.

A powdery vanilla that smells like home! I personally LOVE this perfume as it has become my signature scent. This perfume is definitely not for everyone, but if you like grandma-y perfumes or vintage smelling perfumes that are not super strong / migraine inducing then this is definitely for you! Smells elegant and classy.

I was gifted an old, well, gift set from my grandmother. At least 30 years old and never opened. It might have been the age of the product, but it smells how black licorice tastes. I want to sample a newly made formula to see if I enjoy it at all. Not a safe blind buy.

this smells like church to me - like wooden pews, white dresses and pearls. Its soft and slightly elegant and very skin like on me. its like your skin but more elegant and slightly whimsical. i feel like i would wear this if i was a nun.

its a more calm scent compared to my vanilla potion perfume definitely for cooler days very strong scent and the amber is so strong in this one of my favs 10/10

I tried this for the first time this morning. It is a brand new bottle. At first spray, I could smell a mix of white flowers, and other things that I could not make out. It is not sweet. It is thick and creamy, close to the skin. I could tell that it needed time to settle into itself, but after an hour I had to get ready and that included a shower. This lady would not wash off! Impressive! I could still smell the base notes. No problem. I lotioned up and layered DKNY BD over it using about 30 sprays! Yeah that was a bit much and took a long time to dissipate and settle. I’m smiling as I write this because it was a fun fragrance experimentation day. I will let Vanilla Fields mature for a few months and try again. The juice is clear. Wonder if it will darken over time as the scent settles.

I love the bottle/simple packaging. I like the scent itself well enough but it kind of smells like Suave powder fresh deodorant if I think about it too hard... P.S. my bottle is from my grandma and it's at LEAST 10 yrs old and might be the original formula? i have no way of knowing

I purchased a sealed vintage .375oz cologne spray of Vanilla Fields that was produced in the 90’s. It has a beautiful golden amber tone. After losing Atelier de Cologne Vanille Insensée (I don’t want to pay the current crazy prices) I’m still on the hunt for some lovely vanilla formulations to add to my collection. I really wanted to like this, but on my skin Vanilla Fields opens with a distinct plastic/vinyl note that I can’t ignore. The opening is dominated by synthetic vanillin paired with coconut and peach, which together read less “creamy gourmand” and more plasticized—similar to the smell of a vinyl doll or scented plastic. As it dries down, the harshness does soften and the base becomes more pleasant, with tonka, soft musks, and light woods coming through and still the presence of fruity notes. Unfortunately, by the time the plastic note fades, the damage is done: it lingers long enough to sour my overall experience. My bottle doesn’t smell spoiled or turned—rather, it feels intrinsic to the typical 90s vanillin/musk construction, which can skew vinyl-like for some noses and skin chemistry. If you enjoy sweet, nostalgic synthetics, you may love it. If you’re sensitive to plasticky vanillas, test with caution. I’m glad I didn’t buy a larger bottle off the bat.

What I expected from the name and notes was having a lovely picnic with vanilla pastries and fresh fruit in a woodland field. A lovely lightly sweet vanilla with some woods and florals and just a bit of green earthiness from the patchouli. What I got instead was mowing the lawn on a warm day and a trip to the hardware store to walk through the garden center and then buy some lumber. It's cut grass and wood shavings and maybe walking past some flowers. It makes me think of doing yard work, I really dislike the smell of cut grass. it's just not for me at all it's so intensely green in the worst kind of way.

The original formulation that came out in the 90's was absolutely gorgeous on me. I got the reformulated version and it didn't work at all. I miss the old one. :(

The opening here smells like Pez candies! Kind of a dusty, verging on chalky texture. The fruitiness is primarily citrus to my nose, the way it combines with the fuzz of the clean white musk probably is what creates this sensation. I do enjoy this stage, but I'm thankful when it develops away from it...because... the drydown! The drydown is where this is at! There's more LOTV to my nose than other florals, it's graceful, classic and...yes, a little grandma-chic. It's a vase of LOTV arranged next to a warm, steamy bowl of cream-of-rice. Vanillic, slightly lactonic, lightly spiced. A window is open, allowing the scent of vegetation and woods to freshen the air. Somewhere nearby hangs laundry to dry, the clean musk is a familiar and soothing background aroma. It's homey, evocative, welcoming and pretty. It's a little "country"", a little down-home. It certainly doesn't smell modern, which is a positive in my mind, the ingredients have a vintage feel to them. The entire time testing this I kept getting the feeling that I've smelled this before, though I'm almost certain nobody in my circle ever wore it. It's *quaint* in every sense of the word, and elicits an acute sense of nostalgia. I didn't expect loving this even half as much.

This is one of my drugstore favorites. Vanilla Fields is Coty's warm season vanilla in contrast to Vanilla Musk being for the cold seasons. Vanilla Fields makes me think of the transition from the dog days of summer to the autumn. It is like walking through of field of hay and sweetgrass that has been baked golden by the sun, and there are a few lingering flowers scenting the air. It is not a pretentious fragrance -- think more of a woman in a flowing flower printed dress, well-denim jacket, and old cowboy boots walking down a dirt road in the country. Please be aware that, like many fragrances of the 80s and 90s, the first spray is a scary mess, but transitions to sweet flowers with a hint of coconut. The dry down is a powdery, woody vanilla. Spray this before you go out and avoid touch up sprays in public if you can. This is an intimate fragrance, so do not expect a cloud of scent. The fragrance does not last long, but that can be helped by layering it with a dry vanilla or matching florals.

This perfume was a gift from my mother. I don't wear it often, because the patchouli makes me itch and sneeze, and also because I wore it in a casino once in Reno for a few hours and smelling it too long makes me feel vaguely nauseous. Even so, I can't get rid of it. And for some strange reason, I can't stop wearing it. Every so often, I pull this fragrance out again. The scent has a nostalgic quality that I can't quite put my finger on, but is nonetheless cozy and comforting. It's a warm vanilla scent, slightly creamy and slightly spicy. The patchouli gives it a little herbal oomph. It's sweet and a bit powdery, but this isn't an edible vanilla. If you love vanilla, but hate the gourmand trend, definitely give this gem a try. It smells very distinct, and unlike many other vanillas on the shelves. Edit to add: I read a review that said this perfume smells exactly like an aged paperback book, and that is so correct! That's the perfect way to describe this fragrance. If you have ever smelled the pages of a cheap pulp paperback book from the 70s or 80s, that's exactly what this perfume smells like! (And explains the comforting, nostalgic quality I mentioned above.)

This has patchouli in it and there in is the problem. It has a spikyness to it that those looking for today’s vanilla trend will be rudely shocked in the nose by this. It is no Ariana Grande fluffy vanilla. I used to wear this when it first launched and could never make peace with it. I didn’t like it then and don’t like it now it just has a stabbing pervasiveness about it.

I am not sure I would call this a vanilla fragrance. It is very flowery aromatic with powdery notes. I prefer this from a distance.

To me this smells just like Giorgio Beverly Hills.... It's not what I was expecting..I love it cause I love GB

This perfume has the exact smell of a perfectly aged paperback book. Not sure how I didn't notice it before today, but this revelation only makes me love Vanilla Fields more. This scent isn't for the Kayali or Sol Janiero lovers--it's for those with an old soul! It's a classic of the 90's and doesn't try to be anything else. I'll always love it!

This perfume smells exactly like the Song of India India Temple Incense. It's wild!

Very interesting mixture of notes, and it changes a lot from top to mid notes. It starts very strong, and it makes me think immeadiately of other 90s fragrances that had strong statement openings. But it surprised me by quickly fading to florals- even smelling a bit green, giving it the "fields" part of the name. But it still stays vanilla-sweet throughout. The strong florals are not for me but I do like the deeper vanilla-tonka drydown. I think this could fit all ages young to elderly.

The first perfume I ever smelled. My mom wore this in the late 90s/early 00s and the scent memory is strong and nostalgic for me. Funnily enough, MFK’s Grand Soir jogged my memory of it a bit!

Discontinued but I see bottles in Walmart all the time. You can get it for now until the last stock dwindles. In the UK it's made under a different brand already (& it's costly to get in the US) so buy your backups now.

Wow! Ok I was a perfume snob even as a teen! I wouldn’t wear drugstore scents ha now I’ve grown up! And I’m revisiting some that I missed! I’m a new vanilla lover (mostly a spice lover) so o wanted to try this classic after hearing some reviewers rave. I was a bit overwhelmed looking at all the ingredients and thought it would be a mess but it’s not! When you first spray it’s a bit all over. Yet once it settles, it’s just a lovely sweet but not too sweet scent. It’s fun to layer! I layered today with crystal Noir Edp..and oddly enough the coconut and gardenia of that made this vanilla pop even more!

A coincidence: yesterday was browsing the forum for advice on locating a good, creamy banana scent; then today I found two well-aged bottles of Vanilla Fields in a thrift store. I had never tried this drugstore classic, but, happily, it smells in its sillage like that Midwestern dessert made with banana slices, pudding, vanilla wafers, and whipped cream — plus a balsamic grounding. Rich and sweet. Also carries a waxy coconut note, evoking tanning oil…or even the pleasant synthetic whiff of candle wax. Or, as others have said, doll heads and cereal milk. The musk leans Egyptian for me, having that pleasant scent of perspiration dried by fresh air. A Narciso-ish vanilla, if you will. Easily a hit with lovers of Shalimar, LouLou, Alien Essence Absolue, or Jil Sander Sun.

To me it is a coconutty sunscreen with a hint of fresh green breeze and it still definitely carries that overall musky 90s vibe. It is stunning. Well worth the price!

I enjoy this one. It's so much more than just vanilla. It has spice to it and more floral than expected. I don't get any fruity notes but I do pick up on some amber and musk. The coconut is just barely there. It lasted a while on me, about 7-8 hours and I'd say it makes a small bubble around you as opposed to being arms length or a skin scent. It's right there in the middle. Great value for the price!
