I love that this actually smells like photorealistic matcha, with only a faint illusion of soft serve. It’s green, soft, powdery. Barely sweet. As a non-gourmand person I am very pleased
Grassy at first but settles into a photorealistic high grade matcha, not too sweet actually kinda bitter. A little too seaweed-y for me.
Very lightly sweetened matcha powder with some vanilla in there somewhere I suppose, but this doesn't read ice cream to me in any appreciable way. It's quite grassy and green to me, even in the drydown, with some sort of floral (white floral?) in there. I'd hesitate to even call this gourmand, honestly, it's just sort of herbal and green.
for me, the notes are pretty spot on to how it smells. it opens with a very straightforward matcha powder kinda scent then mellows into like vanilla ice cream (still smell the matcha for sure though). it also stayed fragrant after i took a shower. i like it
Incredibly realistic matcha ICECREAM. Not matcha, not matcha latte. But fantastic matcha icecream.
This matcha scent starts subtly sweet, but after spraying on my skin it becomes more herbal and green, smelling like fresh brewed tea and cut grass. After sometime, I feel like the scent mellows even more into a mature green scent with a little hint of rice and powdery notes - perfect for daily wear! I would say its a great unisex scent for matcha lovers who aren't looking for anything too sweet, as a lot of matcha scents I've tried tend to have a gourmand aspect to it with lactonic or vanilla notes.
I might be in the minority here, but I LOVE that it doesn't smell sweet or sugary at all -- in spite of its name. It's actually one of the only scents that actually smells like matcha. Powdery, rice-y-, earthy, and green tea.
This should be called "Matcha" because there's no soft serve at all.
earthy and powdery scent, exactly like tossing a fist of matcha powder onto the wind. fresh and comforting, no other matcha comes close to this one!
Smells like matcha meditation in the opening. And then bizarrely enough it’s (to me, at least) the spit of Angel’s Share in the drydown
THEE matcha scent... i feel like no others do matcha justice like this one. obvious' had Something off. phlur's is just no. le labo's is just not a matcha scent, lmao. but this. yes. would drink it.
a sharp and stringent blast of matcha, the powder hitting straight into your nose. as others have mentioned, this mellows out/becomes sweeter over time, but it definitely starts out ceremonial grade green. to me, this is delectable.
I got this perfume after hearing a lot of reviews about it being a true to matcha scent. From what i read and researched about it, it was just a dryer slightly gourmand/milk matcha scent, very simple. But when I finally got to smell it, it smelt nothing like the notes or matcha at all!! Very clean almost patchouli scent, not even a little bit matcha or gourmand. Very disappointed. I am a very very big matcha and perfume fan. Had to give it away it wasn't even a good scent to wear out. Headache inducing
This smells exactly like the notes. Initially spray is a strong, bitter matcha tea, and slowly morphs into a subtle vanilla ice cream and waffle cone scent. The matcha becomes faint but still present in the background. It's great for those who love matcha fragrances and those who like a bit of sweetness. This is sweet without being overly gourmand, cloying or cheap.
very powdery scent and has a strong matcha / green tea smell. the green tea scent is mixed with a sort of jasmine scent. it smells like the generic jasmine perfume. i would've liked something smoother or have more layers to the scent.
Starts with a very realistic matcha smell. A whisper of this stayes well into the drydown, but I find this scent most beautiful in the opening and heart. It's very cozy and comforting It's not obnoxiously sweet, but I appreciate the lack of sugar because it creates a non-cloying and comfortable to wear gourmand. Matcha soft serve is a creamy scent that might lean more lotion than ice cream to some. There are much better choices out there for those with a sweet tooth, but it's an excellent option for those of us who find sweet vanillas cloying. My best description of the far drydown would be whipped cream with vanilla extract. Lactonic, but a little fluffy. Somewhere in the middle of the progression I got a fair amount of sweetness and a mentioned by others - something reminescent of a floral note.
The opening is a very realistic matcha scent. Then dries down a little sweeter and floraly but I could still smell the bitterness of the matcha. Perfect wearable matcha scent. I absolutely love it
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. This opens with a photorealistic matcha note. The matcha note remains throughout, although in the drydown there is definitely the presence of some white florals. In that way, it reminds me of matcha meditation, but a more toned down version without a screechy jasmine note taking over the whole scent. Matcha Soft Serve is delicate and well-blended. A very refreshing, calm and clean scent that is signature-worthy.
Only tested it on my wrists and I had to keep smelling it throughout the day because it was kinda forgettable. It didn’t have any matcha but smelled more floral than anything else. I like it but it wasn’t what I was expecting at all.
The scent seems simple. But for me, this is what justifies the price point. The matcha note is beautifully captured (green, fresh, earthy, bitter) and is so smoothly blended into the milky note. Caution: this is for genuine lovers of matcha who can tolerate it when it's stronger and more bitter (but bitter in a fragrant way). Compared to competitors (Obvious, Le Labo, MM Replica), this is the most photorealistic and the most beautifully composed scent. The transition is so smooth from the initial spray to the dry down. All the notes remain perfectly blended throughout the total 6h wear, no particular note overpowers another, which can appear deceptively linear, but given how complex the fragrance is in mixing the tea, the matcha, the milk, the vanilla notes, you'll only ever smell them in balance. (This is unlike, e.g. Obvious Un Ete which has the sharp matcha scent disappear immediately after the initial spray, and then within a few minutes, the scent breaks down into the citrus/ginger vs the lactonic notes which clash against each other, giving it the playdoh scent). For how smooth and well-rounded Matcha Soft Serve is throughout the whole wear, I give d'Annam a lot of credit; the price tag is worth it for this experience alone. The only con is that after an hour or so dry-down is too floral for me - almost like a very fragrant jasmine tea, which given how earthy and grounded the initial spray was, this was almost too sweet for me. For this reason, I won't be buying a full bottle, and maybe I should give up on trying to find a perfect matcha scent as none of the ones I've tried have worked for me. But unlike all the other matcha scents I have, I will continue to re-visit my sample of Matcha Soft Serve just because of how masterfully it has captured the scent of matcha.
Surprisingly floral and not milky nor tea at all, quite pretty but rather for a mature woman or a conservative office setting.
I tested Matcha Soft Serve on a scorching 36°C summer day, and it completely surprised me. Based on the notes, I expected a sweet, lactonic gourmand, but on my skin, it doesn't turn sweet at all. I don’t detect any ice cream or waffle cone notes here. The opening delivers a very authentic green matcha note that fades rather quickly, leaving behind a delicate, fresh, and beautiful scent. It actually leans more floral and clean than sweet or vanilla-heavy on my skin. However, since fragrance notes develop differently depending on individual skin chemistry, it might turn much sweeter on someone else. It actually leans more floral and clean than vanilla-heavy on my skin. It is not sweet or cloying on me at all, but on others it could be. So no blind-buying this one, because it really depends on your skin chemistry. For me, it's not sweet at all and yet still very pretty, non-offensive, and gives subtle, pleasant wafts. A beautiful discovery for anyone who loves calm and clean compositions.
You're only going to smell a fresh matcha powder with this one. Sprayed it on my arm and compared it to some matcha powder I had laying in the corner of my room. Basically the same but fresher and stronger than my 2 month old bag of matcha. It lasts for maybe 30 minutes around you and then develops into a skin scent that isn't very noticeable. Still searching for something with more longevity.
All I can really smell is a powdery matcha note. Matcha is the star of the show here but they forgot to include any ice cream/milk/waffle cone. Definitely would not consider a gourmand. I would never wear it.
On paper this was straight, photorealistic matcha powder - nice, but a little sharp. On my skin, I got more of the gourmand that it was marketed as, however I did not get any waffle cone, and it wasn't a distinct laconic smell from the milk note either. Rather, the matcha just turned sweeter in a sugary way - not that it was overbearingly sweet. The dirt/grassy smell of the matcha was still the most noticeable. It is very much a tea scent, and not one I am looking to buy a full bottle of. Not to mention the longevity is horrible.
A VERY realistic matcha scent. Agree with the people who say it smells like matcha powder instead of ice cream or a latte. Slightly sour note on the skin. Not bad but might need more layering.
i was expecting a sweet matcha latte smell, something perfect for a casual day out. couldn’t be further away from the case☹️the matcha note is bitter and overwhelming while still being undetectable after half an hour. the vanilla and milk notes were an attempt to soften the matcha and make it sweeter but it’s just an unpleasant fragrance overall.
Matcha powder scent. Well, this time the lightness of the brand scents was indeed appropriate! Unfortunately, after one hour I start noticing waffle cone… and oat milk… maybe even corn ?? I just wish that only green flowery soft matcha stayed longer. and that it was a liiiittle bit brighter. going to keep searching for a perfect matcha scent.
This is definitely a pretty photorealistic matcha scent when you first spray it. I wouldn't say it's gourmand, I don't get vanilla or waffle cone but rather a dry powdered unsweetened matcha with a bit of a lactonic note. I personally like it but it starts to disappear really quick. 7.5/10
