this smells exactly how my skin smelled after coming out of the ocean at anakena beach and drying under the sun. absolutely fantastic
To me it comes across like a really boujee laundry soap in the beginning and as it dries down, it becomes a very calming sandalwood. I wouldn't normally care for this, but I actually don't mind it.
The 3 S’s… salt, sand, and seaweed. This pulls so masculine on my skin. No florals. I really only smell ambergris.
This is a perfect easy, carefree beach scent. Its so uplifting and slightly creamy from the sandalwood. Tempted to get the full bottle. 6.5/10
I think this fragrance helped me accept that salt (at least as a top note) is not for me. I usually love tiare, magnolia, and ylang-ylang, but I did not like this at all. it was very salty-fresh air at first, but the salty part felt a little... urine-y??? and then it transitioned to florals that felt a little fusty. the lack of warmth stands out a lot in the heart (I am a softie for coconut and I think this is where it would have shone through and worked wonderfully).
Salt is not your typical beachy fragrance. No coconut overload, no sunscreen vibes. It smells like salty skin, sea air and creamy florals, with tiare, magnolia, soft musk and sandalwood. Fresh and slightly mineral, but still warm and sensual. I love that it feels more like being by the sea than trying to smell like a tropical vacation.
Violet give this a vintage vibe. Soapy but not harsh. Musky and spicy but not too much. There's a fresh note, like clean laundry others have mentioned. Maybe even a subtle mint - that kind of freshness. It's not my style but I can see why people like it. If you like soapy scents, you may want to try this!
Finally, someone else who agrees that it smells like Black Orchid. It smells like Black Orchid.
Overwhelming white floral at first. After around 30 minutes, it settles out to a milder white floral with a slightly sweet musky base. I don't smell ocean or salt. I'm bored with this one.
Tom Ford's Black Orchid ..Eau Fraiche. like a clean laundry version of black orchid. The opening is a little loud and masculine (kind of reminds me of something that would have 'sport' in its name), but the mid/dry down is where the aquatic elements peak through, and its quite nice at that point. like wearing a freshly laundered bikini swimming in the ocean, and then sunbathing with it on in the noon sun.
Sandalwood is the first thing that I smell (but sandalwood can pull strong on me) then the ambergis & a slight musk. I really don't get the floral notes which would have made it feminine for me. While the scent was too masculine for my taste it was still a great scent! If you are looking for that salt water beachy scent that you can almost taste, like when the ocean water drips off your hair and hits your tongue, but leans masculine - then this is for you!
The best way I can describe this fragrance is that when you first spray it, your senses will be instantly overwhelmed. At least that's how it felt to me. Like sitting in a symphony hall, it's dead quiet, and all of a sudden all the instruments start playing at once while being out of tune. I came close to giving up on this scent after I first sprayed it. But, if you can get past the opening and wait for the dry down, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. The dry down is soft and airy and does remind me of being at the beach. Not tropical or fruity. Just being in the middle of the ocean, smelling that crisp fresh air. Personally, I have not fully descided whether I like this perfume enough to keep it or if I'm going to move on and list it for sale.
Salt accord. Sort of sporty. I like it but could be stronger.
Powdery musk bomb with a hint of coconut water and tropical white flower sunscreen.
This is the 3rd scent I've tried from the Ellis Brooklyn discovery set. I was surprised not to see any marine or aquatic scents in this. I figured by the name I wasn't going to care for this. I prefer a rain water vibe than a salty ocean air vibe. This definitely gives a beach, salty ocean air, without the sunscreen vibe. The flowers help give that tropical feel but don't go overboard to the feminine. Not bad and worth getting a sample if you like the beach vibe, but it's a pass for me.
As someone obsessed with summery, marine, saline scents, I was wildly disappointed by this. Nothing salty or floral about it. There is a really strong animalic type opening note that I thought was amber gone wrong but don't see that on the notes at all. The dry down smells more like driftwood that washed ashore and dried on the beach. Should be pleasant but reminds me so much of Saltair's Driftwood scent (in a bad way) that it annoyed me. Such a bummer.
The sea and salt … reminds me of a Lynx fragrance for some reason. Very much aquatic, fresh..
I love the idea of this - who doesn't want to find a fragrance that evokes the ocean air? But it's screechy. It smells like what I imagine tv static or a headache would smell like if they had a scent. Or if you had a terrible migraine and happened to be by the ocean. So for me, I'm still looking for that scent that smells like ocean air.
Salt took its time to win me over, but now I get it. It’s a delicate balance of beachy and earthy (true to its name), with a clean, almost skin-like freshness. Not your typical summery coconut scent. It is more subtle. Clean girl at the beach.
I absolutely love this fragrance! I have recently realized that salty, aquatic notes were my ultimate favorite in a perfume, so I was very excited to try this. I was concerned about the scent being too tropical or fruity/floral with the tiare and magnolia, but I found the ambergris and musk notes to counter the sweeter notes very well. Salt smells like a breeze at a beach where wildflowers are growing nearby :)
This is a good fragrance if you’re looking for something fresh and aquatic. This is not what I was looking for. I wanted something more beachy but this was like straight up men’s cologne on me. I really wanted to like it but it was just too strong and masculine for me. Lasts long and has great silage. Wouldn’t recommend as a blind buy cause I do think it all depends on your skin chemistry.
I think this is the perfect beachy scent for winter with the ambergris note. It's beachy for someone who wants beachy without smelling like sunscreen.
I was initially worried about what this fragrance would smell like on my skin. Often times, Ellis Brooklyn scents come off ill on me but I wanted to give it a go, and I am so glad I did! The Ylang-ylang is what drew me to want to try this out and it's what I smell the most, I LOVE that. This is not a tropical fragrance to me. It's fresh, aquatic and soothing. I do smell some of the salt in there, and it's just enough to not be, well, salty? There is a hint of floral, nothing too overpowering at least for my taste. Very nostalgic for me. Makes me feel like I've been transported to a fantasy world.
Blind bought this and it’s NOT what I expected. I’m realizing the ambergris shifts the profile from your typical tropical white floral to something very different. Unisex and slightly masculine leaning, almost like ozonic rock and salty shores kind of petrichor, but there’s still a warmth. Contemplating whether I want this for myself or want to give to my husband. It’s a lovely summer scent, either way, but don’t expect the tropics based on the Tiare and yellow florals. Update(04/09/26): So I decided to keep this for myself! It really grew on me and goes well with other spa-like scents that I own. I used Saltair’s Seascape bodycare line and fragrance mist for my bed time shower with this and Lake & Skye 11:11 and it’s really lovely, clean, and calming.
This opens salty and floral with tropical ylang ylang, fresh violet leaves, and sometimes of the salty scent of ambergris. The heart blooms with sweet and exotic Tiare flower and slightly waxy and citrusy magnolia. The dry down becomes more musky and woody with salty and warm ambergris, musk, and creamy sandalwood. Salt does have a bit of a fresh beachy feel to it, but without any coconut notes. The way it reads is a salty aquatic/marine scent with floral, amber, musky, and woody notes intertwined. In comparison to the new Vanilla Salt, I definitely prefer it. Vanilla Salt is much sweeter and has prominent vanilla and whipped cream notes with a salty twist. It’s also quite gourmand. Salt is warmer, more musky, a bit ozonic, floral, and not at all gourmand. They both share a salty aquatic/marine scent. I do think they can pair nicely together, if you enjoy layering fragrances. Ellis Brooklyn fragrances have been growing on me lately, especially the newer ones. I have their mists in Marshmallows (my favorite!), Sand, and Vanilla Sin. I also have the perfumes in Vanilla Salt, Queen’s Caramel, Miami Nectar (my favorites of the perfumes), Salt, Vanilla Milk, and Myth. For reference, some of my favorite Beachy fragrances include Tom Ford Soleil Blanc, Nest Sunkissed Hibiscus, Kilian Sunkissed Goddess, Yves Rocher Monoi Eau des Vahines, Replica Beach Walk, Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess, Bobbi Brown Beach, Kayali Maui in a Bottle, Maldives in a Bottle, Utopia Coco Vanilla, JHAG Vanilla Vibes, Lust for Sun, Alien Goddess, Skylar Boardwalk Delight, Ellis Brooklyn Vanilla Salt, Miami Nectar, Sand, Phlur Beach Skin, SDJ 39, BBW Coco Paradise, At the Beach, Oahu Coconut Sunset, Beach Nights, Boardwalk Marshmallow Clouds
Salty Tiare Flower and not much else for me. This does fold into the tropical beach scent category. A little heady in the florals and very salty. Well blended, yet not something I want to wear. On a test strip it's more chemical smelling...like a woods inspired cleaner. On skin, this does become woodier too, but no chemical weirdness; it's smooth. Does smell like a fresh "seawater on skin" type of scent, but I'm not drawn to wearing this. Perhaps it's because it's Winter.
My go-to, my true love, my forever signature. It depends solely on body chemistry but this just "works" for me. Extremely nostalgic, refreshing, and clean - but with a deeply aquatic base. I smelled so good at church, my pastor's wife bought a bottle.
I think this fragrance heavily relies on your skin chemistry, I enjoyed it on a tester strip but on my skin it smells like plastic. Specifically it smells like pool toys. I don’t know how to explain it. It smells like plastic mixed with pool chlorine. But that could be my skin chemistry altering the smell.
god this is just so... boring. cheap cologne on someone that's been outside in winter for too long. there's nothing 'salty' about it. it's like it's missing a layer or two that makes a fragrance, well, a fragrance. just an incomplete thing.
Tangy, salty, sandy(?). Don't go into this expecting a summery-tropical frag experience, this is very much heavy, humid beach air and skin
