I blind bought a bottle of Idole d'Armani last summer, thinking it would surely be a winner, given the notes. I... don't get the hype, and I don't really care for it. Not a dislike, but just on the low end of "ok." I can't really make out any of the notes, so it must be well blended, but the reviewer below who mentioned curry is onto something here. It almost smells like the "curry tree" note in Gujarat, by Olympic Orchids, now that I think about it (but with less or no rose, here). Musk isn't listed as a note here, but honestly it smells kind of like a typical 2010s designer frag with a synthetic musk base―something I might smell at Macy's. I just tried spraying it again and it isn't better than it was when I first received it. I don't think it's gone off or anything. I think it's just me.

Blind-bought a 30 ml bottle of this last week (2. hand).. and since I didn't know the scent beforehand I'm not sure if it's "spoiled" or if it's just not for me. It's nothing like I expected but that's a risk you take when blindbying. I thought it would be warm, spicy and sweet.. but to me it's very very clean. Green-ish, airy, aquatic?.. I can't really decide, but definitely clean and fresh - kinda like airfreshener or fabricsoftener. IMO this fragrance lacks some depth or complexity. The longevity is fine but to me there's really no development in the scent throughout the drydown.

I’ve had this charming discontinued perfume so long it was when you could get rollerball vials from Sephora for $25. It’s warm and spicy like Christmas cookies and candles in an overcrowded gift shop created by the top notes of ginger, pear, clementine, honey, bitter orange, almond, and artemisia. The middle notes of saffron and rose are very strong but balanced out by jasmine. The blend of spicy and floral notes give the fragrance a real richness. The base notes of vetiver, and styrax give it a lingering sweet forest-like smell, and the patchouli maintains the warm spiciness. This scent reminds me of sitting in the lecture hall in a stats lecture listening to the professor who sounded exactly like Tom Hanks. I’m assuming that it won’t have the same effect on everyone. Generally, if you have the opportunity to get a hold of this lovely fragrance, snap it up, especially if you want to capture the warmth of a cottage in winter.

Guys, I need your help! Is there any straight up dupes for this fragrance on the current market? I know Idole has been discontinued for a long, long time but I just can‘t get over it. Thankful for any hints and tipps 💙

Very, very different coming from a designer frag company and I had to sort of warm up to it, simply because it was so unexpected. I’m not a huge fan of the smell of artemisia and it’s rather dominant, specially in the opening of this one and mixed with ginger, honey and jasmine it becomes overwhelming. Actually it reminds me of the opening of Burberry’s body, another fume heavy on the wormwood. I understand why some people say it smells like curry, since artemisia does have a sort of coriander-heavy curry vibe to it. However, this is more subtle and certainly more alluring when smelled on the skin. Three notes that always alert me are artemisia, pear and honey, since they can all be very difficult and have to be used with great consideration and care. Here we find all three at once, but to be honest, I think this is what great consideration and care possibly smell like, when treated by a very good perfumer. Idole d'Armani is deep and intense, yet soft and though the opening is rather overwhelming, it soon morps into this delicious, slightly creamy and rather fluffy hedonist juice. I find Idole d’Armani to be one of the most interesting designer frags made in the last 20 years or so and mourn its discontinuation, while acknowledging that this kind of perfume is a niche-thing and hardly something a mainstream company can pull of succesfully. A shame though, since this could have been the next best niche perfume ever, if only it had been made by an independent house or company.

Warm spice without leaning Christmas or amber but weirdly greasy. This is my first perfume with styrax, and if that's what this resin does then although I do like the balsamic woody base I'm going to pass on this ingredient in the future.

Love this composition but 1/2 way through the bottle, I became allergic to it. So sad. Same thing happened with L'Instant by Guerlain and Osmanthus by Molinard.

This is such a gorgeous scent I'm devastated they discontinued it. It's impossible to find now. Love the pear and ginger. Can we campaign to bring it back!?

The first HE perfume bottle I bought back at my first year of uni, which prompted years long perfume collecting. 22 bottles later, this is still in my top 5. So unique, warm, fruity and spicy, perhaps it's Armani's best release. Couldn't believe they discontinued it. I'm out of it and looking to repurchase. Smelling it makes me so nostalgic, I wore it every day to school and outings. Absolutely love it.

A criminally underrated designer with niche qualities, I think that is the reason it never took off. It evokes the image of golden women’s skin, much like the J’adore adds. Actually it fits those adds better than J’adore if you ask me. Very alluring and unique, it smells like a saffron-spiced, sweet, golden and JUICY pear with almonds, and well-rounded jasmine on a vetiver / resin base. Patchouli is very light here. The bottle is incredible as well, heavy glass and a heavy cap. This has cost money producing, that’s clear. What’s most impressive for me is the structure of the perfume, the notes blend seamlessly and no note screams at you, like a soft but very present aura with blurred edges. No synthetic or common base here. It lasts an entire day with soft to medium sillage. Very suitable for transitional seasons. There’s nothing really like it, the closest I can think of is Cinéma, which is sweeter and less spicy, more dark golden than light diffusive golden like IDOLE. Highly recommended if you value composition, uniqueness and quality as much as I do.

The House of Armani now has 46 (and counting) fragrances in its stable. Out of that vast number, I can honestly say that I admire only three -- this would be one of them. The original Armani (a dark smoldering chypre beauty), would have sufficed as the signature house frag -- imho, is another. This opens with a fresh floral/fruity accord that is beguiling, then it deepens and becomes spicier and heady after which it darkens even more -- until it settles into a ravishing mix of patchouli and vetiver. This frag is well constructed and though "Italian" avoids the fruit/salad syndrome so identified with that cliche. Recommended!

Mine has sadly turned... I am soo sad, because it is such a lovely fragrance. I once bought a shower and a body lotion in a charity shop and I liked it that much that I bough an edp too. And despite being kept away from heat, daylight etc, its initial note has turned. It smells fine after a while but I am afraid I need to use it up asap and the bottle is nearly full. After the initial turned note goes away, I can smell sweet juicy pear and ginger. Lovely for spring and summer. Not much long lasting on skin, but my clothes smell all day long. Shame it has been discontinued.

I'm a guy writing this review. I have this perfume finally back on my desk after searching for years. The perfume has been discontinued. I think Armani's basic problem is that a scent of this quality is just not profitable enough, especially given the shocking taste in mass market (overpriced) perfumes in the UK. This just is the scent of a woman for a man. I like refined, slightly spicy and very seductive perfume. This particular one was bought for my now ex wife, and she loved it but used it sparingly. And this scent is a gorgeous reminder of her and her dresses on a summers day at the beach. And i'd happily catch a waft of this on the sea breeze. I think its the jasmine note in this that works so well. Its blended well so it seems the dry down takes ages. this is like the dinner date kind of fragrance. The scent itself, the best way of putting it, smells like money. Its the kind of scent Vespa Lynd wears when shes introducing herself on the train to James Bond. I don't know what people's problems are saying this smells of curry - politely stop buying fakes or reviewing the testers or being so absurdly bigoted. There is a subtle ginger note, but if thats what you think curry is, you need to stop eating McDonalds and go learn to cook properly and please don't waste anyone elses time with your ignorance. God help me, if if have to date someone as awful as you in 2021. I'm personally realising im a fan of Bruno Jovanovic, having also bought My Way and Pure XS. I think he goes for the seduction approach in his scents. Not overwhelming, not sweet, slightly dark, older and seductive. This one though is a timeless classic.

it's not quite my jam, but regardless please don't spritz a lot of this, my sister once spritzed it 3-4 times while we were in the bathroom and i almost choked to death

ooooh this is super sexy, reminds me a tad of Sensi but with a more old fashioned powdery dry down , LOVE IT

At first sniff I knew it reminded me of something from the 90's, it is a mix of CK's Contradiction and Dior's Dune (the old version). It has that gingery, sweet fruity vibe of CK and the earthy dryness given by saffron that I just adore in Dune. To all these notes Armani added its fragrance a fresher, icy almost metallic vibe. One of the best fragrances from Armani, not so popular (in the best way), not at all main stream. This fragrance is not common, girly, playful or lovely... It suits a powerful woman, who knows exactly what she wants and how to get it. Edit: it also reminds me a lot of Gianfranco Ferre Camicia 113.

Contessa01 Thank you so much for your comment informing people to try not to be put off by ignorant comments like "it smelling of curry". It contains Ginger and ingredients like Saffron so of course it will remind people of a curry scent (obviously people who have no knowledge of spices or aromatics). Some very sweet fragrances remind us of things like candied apples or candy floss and chocolate so why does it matter if a perfume reminds narrow nasal cavities and minds to think it reminds them of a curry. Some of the best fragrances ever created contain Coriander amongst a vast array of spices and aromatics that are and have been used as far back as "Biblical & Roman Times" in Eastern cooking. Thus to write off a fragrance because it reminds YOU of curry is very ignorant and narrow minded indeed and is counterproductive in opening "olfactory minds". Some people want to smell like many of the Gourmands available so why would it be considered offensive to smell like a curry, in fact having an Asian background I find those comments offensive and ignorant and are usually remarks made by arrogant and uneducated biased minds. I will indeed be taking your advice on board Contessa01 and ordering a bottle today. So thank you.x

Beyond my comprehension the reason why Idole d'Armani is out of the game. I started thinking about it again because of the new Idôle coming out from Lancome and the huge difference between the two. Curry, was my interpretation of Idole d'Armani based on what my skin returned to me back, then. Admirable. I caught a glimpse of it years ago but didn't take the opportunity to get a bottle of it. It happens that I regret my carelessness.

This perfume smells like sweet straw baskets holding candied ginger and ripe mandarines. It's earthy, warm, and spicy with a pronounced herbal & balsamic aspect. This is the only perfume that has ever reminded me of what Dune smelled like in the 90s. This could easily be a Dune flanker - but I actually like it a bit more due to the gingery nuances - that aspect adds a spicy freshness while Dune is more woody and less spicy. That said, the ginger does tend to fade down and the dry down of the perfume is rather musky and wan. Projection is weak and I only got about 3 hours wear.

This is a very unique fragrance. I had a chance to smell it back in the day just after it was launched. I remember it as a smooth sweet fragrance, nothing special, just sweet and soft. Yesterday, I was given a full bottle of this gold juice. After one spray I got intrigued...this fragrance is nothing how I remember it. It smell very fougere and pungent. This is thanks to Ginger and Artemisia. After few hours it dries down to this most beautifull sweet scent...gorgeous!!!!

I usually don't cry over discontinued perfumes, but this Idole makes me sentimental. I was planning to have it when it was gone off shops. I can hardly find a replacement. In my mind Crystal Noir from Versace comes as close as possible. But Armani perfume had soapy creamy base, almost like fancy face moisturiser but better.

one of my favorite fragrances. I associate with warm days, an incredibly feminine note. very durable. I recommend :) I will definitely return to this fragrance and sooner :)

Marks & Spencer used to sell a perfume called 'Sparkle' - the bottle was encased in a sparkly drawstring black bag, rather like a phone sock. This is an excellent dupe of Idole. Sadly the dupe vanished from the M&S stores years ago, but it is worth keeping your eyes open on e-bay for this one.
