Xeryus Rouge

Love it or hate it is the #1 negative AI trait, and I agree. I have the red bottle version and I've spent some time with it. Bought it blind after reading glowing reviews but I'm afraid I just don't understandwhat people see in this one. It smells like all the fragrance section of the mall from the early to mid 2000's, mixed together. Although it is nostalgic for me, I just can't get past the overwhelming sweetness. The only saving grace is the geranium. If I want this kind of nostalgia to wear around the house, I turn to Hanae Mori HM, which is more complex and better made fragrance than this.

This is a gorgeous and distinctive Spicy, fresh and aromatic scent that is still so relevant today. Citruses, spice, woody and musky too, offering just a gentle warmth that still allows for all season wearability. It may be considered a classic by many but I feel although Xeryus Rouge genuinely stands amongst the Icons of the past it doesn't always get the Kudos it fully deserves! The craft of the blend is just Givenchy doing what they do best, constructing a wonderful, innovative (at the time) scent that performs admirably. Although an EDT it's easily comparable to many of today's releases that are of higher oil volume and benefitting from more modern, enhanced ingredients such is the depth of the quality. The scent itself has unusual notes, especially for the time which consist of cactus, Chinese orange, pimento and tarragon then added to by the perennial perfume classics such as cedar, geranium, musk and sandalwood. What this combines to produce is an aroma that is best described as manly bliss! The notes are so well matched and mixed together that with concentration the individual nuances can be picked out but why bother trying when the overall effect is such a zingy, outstanding creation. This is a fragrance that is easy to wear in all but tropical temperatures, it performs great up to the mid 20s! I haven't pushed it further such is the strength and potency. The sillage is good and bubble created is above average, lasting for a good few hours before slowly receding back over 6-7 hours where it will beautifully perfume your skin for several more. It'll stay on clothes far longer. Xeryus Rouge still stands out today, especially in a world of perfumery dominated by a million blue, gourmand or similar profiles that all mirror each other over and over and over.............. This is definitely an aroma for the man who is 30 upwards, a proper masculine character and enjoys being well dressed and presented. I'd consider this an everyday scent that can and should be worn to any occasion whether day, night or a rendezvous of the early hours variety! 😳 Just not really ideal for the younger generations preferred settings such as sweaty nightclubs and the like! It's just far too classy for that environment. Like eating a McDonald's in a Michelin starred restaurant. 😆 Excellent value and a fragrance that represents the male of the species at its finest. I feel genuinely lucky that I managed to try this as it had passed me by somehow! It really does belong with all the other Chanel's, Dior's, Guerlains and of course other Givenchy scents that have that legendary status and continue to stand the test of time. Absolutely blown away and another classic that will stay with me from now on.

Very early 2000s vibe. Reminds me of A&F Fierce or even Boss Bottled. It's an aromatic soft-spicy scent with moderate fruit sweetness, like from an apple, even though that isn't a listed note. Has a smooth oriental vibe. Somewhat unisex. Great evening/dinner/romantic scent for all ages. 7/10

Still one of the best fragrance by Givenchy for Men.. I just can’t get over it till this day. Fresh, a bit fruity and woody yet it captures the brand DNA & essences.

I wish there were a page for the OG/red bottle. The new redesign triggers my OCD.

Givenchy has some of the best fragrances they throw away as discontinued for no reason. Xeryus Rouge, Hot, Play. Like why? Don't say it was poor sales because why would these fragrances need to be cloned so many times or have og versions sell for $400+ today? #bringbackplay #bringbackxeryusrouge

If you are a fan of the discontinued Xeryus then this might be for you but it will not replace. I absolutely love the OG and sadly it can’t be had without spending a fortune on the bay. This is a warm spicy fragrance that has filled the void. Rouge is related but distantly. This fragrance has become a solid hitter in my humble rotation and should be added to any lovers of complex scents that aren’t common in the wild.

Givenchy Xeryus Rouge is a true masterpiece. Even though it was released in the mid-90s, it remains a timeless classic that feels incredibly modern even today. There’s a fascinating complexity to it—it’s as if the spicy warmth of Chanel Égoïste met the smooth, refined DNA of Chanel Allure Homme. It’s fiery, bold, and sophisticated all at once...

Yeah i have to say after spending time with this, i definetely like it. It is sweet and all but its pretty unique and i dunno if i was correct in describing it as "synthetic through and through". Maybe more like a bit synthetic in places. That cactus accord got to me, in the mid it shines and makes this fragrance quite unique, with that pimento too. It comes off as "juicy" in a way not much else does. The novelty and the sophisticated dry down makes this something any age can wear if they dont mind the sweetness, which honestly isnt super sweet compared to alot of stuff nowadays. I have a late 2000s bottle, 2010 at the latest. Check it out, this is half unique modern take, half classic oriental style.

I have the bottle in the picture above. I wore 4 sprays on my neck and 11 hours later it's still projecting. I had no idea how beastly this fragrance is. And it's an EDT!??? Givenchy list this on their site as "Intense". They weren't joking. Annick menardo created something very unique here.

In my opinion, Xeryus Rouge is the finest creation by Annick Ménardo that I have encountered so far. This fragrance is decidedly bold and masculine, crafted according to traditional standards yet still modern (or at least it was considered modern in 1996). It possesses a timeless quality. However, it is important to note that this is a distinctly evening fragrance, best suited for men who enjoy attracting attention. Xeryus Rouge undeniably guarantees interest from the opposite sex. Like Embers by Rouge Bunny Rouge, which I recently tested, this is not a scent for boys. My rating: Highly recommended! (7/7)

I remember buying all sorts of new fragrances in my late teens early 20s. This was one of them and it was the only one I truly regretted. Just had a weird note(s) that I really couldn't stand after a few wears and ultimately tossed it out.

Vintage version. Calming masculine fragrance. Cactus note does remind me of cactus. Very different from many vintage fragrances. If you're a collector, I'd recommend. Almost an iris like calming factor. Date night or professional work day type of fragrance. Versatile.

New version with the clear bottle smells nothing like the vintage version, although users here indicated otherwise, not sure what is their gain in deceiving others like this. Reformulation is more akin to something like the current (also reformulated and very weak) Platinum Egoiste, Azzaro Sport or Tommy Men: spicy aromatic barbershop fougères. The change to a clear bottle is actually very indicative of the change in the scent itself. I tested the one with the red bottle previously and was sorely disappointed when I got this one, just a soft 90s shower gel-like skin scent that gets a bit sour as it dries down and has hard time competing with something 4 times cheaper like a Zara, who does it better on I.E. Absolutely Dark, and that one is not even very good to begin with.

P.s. after more wears, i think this is a perfect compliment to opium pour homme by ysl. I know newer bottles have terrible performance they say. But scent wise i think if you love this or love ysl opium ph, you should own both. You could wear the opium to dressed up formal type occasions and club and party with the xeryus rouge. And im sure there had to be dudes in the mid to late 90s doing just that.

New bottle enjoyer here. Just wanted to add that the opening gives me some slight hints of black pepper, akin to OG versions of Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger. They both share a cactus note, though it's at the top in XR and bottom in Tommy. Maybe that's what I'm getting? If anyone knows, please feel free to share.

Your star perfumer builds on the work of many predecessors. Annick Menardo excels in originality and approaches a fragrance from the most interesting discipline, because what is fragrance other than emotion and memory mist.

The original vintage (red glass rectangle bottle) reminds me if the vintage DESIRE by Dunhill red except spicy and not as sweet but LEGIT nonetheless.

Nose Note #306 I've been hesitant about reviewing this for some time. I don't know what to say. It smells pleasant, but I'm having hard time describing it. Smells unique, but at the same time smells like many other things. Kind of citrusy. Kind of spicy, but not really, not like the realistic spices of Amouage Interlude or Comme des Garcons Blackpepper. Maybe it's indeed catus with pimento. Haven't smelled neither before. Has this old school vibe - a little. Not a beast performer, but OK. So I give it 4/5. I probably will never attach to it. Just doesn't feel like my jam

This one belongs to that "strange" category of perfumes. It's too edgy to fall under mass appealing designer fragrances and not artsy enough to be called niche. Remember that quirky girl sitting in the corner, that one with the thick framed glasses, the one dressed up almost poorly, the one with the careless haircut, but you couldn't stop looking her way. Xeryus Rouge is that weird girl you can't get enough of and next thing you know you're the one chasing.

I am immediately wowed by the smell of cactus combined with the orange and some hint of pimento. It's really gorgeous and refreshing. I was expecting it to be really dark because of the red vintage bottle but it's actually a nice 90 percent freshie. I'm using a perfume oil inspired version and I am so glad that I discovered this gem. It feels slightly niche quality in my opinion and very pricey, but it's not to my surprise. I can't wait to try this out with some Terre d'Hermes EDT or Issey Miyake EDT and see how I will smell. That cactus is definitely the star of the show. It's juicy, ethereal and magical. Annick Menardo got skills fellas.⚡ Get this if you can. UPDATE: The performance of this perfume oil is off the charts. Even after washing my shirts, the juicy cactus 🌵😋 is still going strong. Unbelievable! I wish Givenchy releases this in an Elixir. It will be game over for most of these overhyped Le Males.

I have a vintage red bottle, 10 years old, and it is fabulous! 💙 Masculine, spicy, woody, aromatic , unique, with great performance. You can really pick up on the pimento and Cactus

I have an old bottle of this (the red one). I smelled it in a store and loved it, but didn’t know where I would wear it. Ended up purchasing it years later because I remembered the smell being so unique unlike anything I ever smelled before. One of the most remarkable masculine scents. It doesn’t come off as cheap like some 90s powerhouse colognes like Alfred Sung, etc. If I could compare it to a movie I would compare it to Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas. It’s profile very similar to Johnny Depps character and vibe of the whole movie. The scent will stay with you like the drug fueled adventure they went on and perhaps that’s the best time to wear this. If you’re going on a drug and alcohol bender in the desert heat and you have no plans on playing it safe. 🌵 🌶️

The og version was powerful and awesome. Now reformulated and so weak. Who would buy this crap now. To keep a business going you should keep up quality not destroy it. Makes no sense at all. I’m glad I stopped buying all this junk. These companies are ripping us off
