Idylle

Beautiful!! It is musky like the Narciso Rodriguez perfumes, but it is not exactly the same - I find it fresher and greener, the lily of the valley and lilac being quite prominent, and opens up with more tart fruity notes, like raspberry. Sweet, pretty, and comforting. So easy to wear and billowy.

I love this. Don't get the overly white flowers as is informed here, but rather an earthy, mossy, musky rose with a petrichor note (I'm really surprised it doesn't have one!!). Patchouli reigns. It is carnal, more on the dirty side. I read "dirty sheets" on a review here, and agree.

I haven't tested any of these kind for a while so it is a good reminder today how these scents smell too, I mean, feminine and classic type, also Guerlain itself. Of course I wouldn't wear it when going out but enjoying one "secretly" at home is almost like a treat :) It has mostly rose in it but something also turns it to a bit yellow direction, whatever it is. White flowers? In my experience it's not / not really that but I am not a professional nose either. Lily of the valley is my nr. 1 smell in the nature to smell once a year but I only read about it as a note in Idylle here in the FR page's list of notes: there's none of that in this scent, at least to my nose (or my tester has lost something). I definitely can smell it in some others like Yves Rocher Muguet En Fleurs and Byredo Inflorescence, my two best LOTV scents which present this amazing princess of flowers (that is, the highest rank) from two different perspectives. I also see peony as a note but it's not here and I know how peony smells, there is a small bush of them blossoming at the moment in front of my house, and this too belongs to the top 5 of all flower scents. Almost forgot: at least from my original plastic tester the very first opening smelt like plastic :) But that disappeared in a minute and took the sweet rosy tone afterwards. One more thing, more general. The previous commenter mentions baby wipes. I have seen this comparison many times in reviews along with other such like bug spray or toilet freshener or dish washing liquids. I don't really understand these comparisons because they are mostly done for a negative association and they give the impression that the smell is bad -- but bad because of what? That's the puzzling part to me. Is it bad because 1. the mentioned everyday commodity has a similar smell and that thing is cheap and that same cheapness is presented in the perfume? Or, 2. even if the everyday's commodity smells good, it's just the similarity that makes it bad? So the producer of those common things has made a wrong choice and has used a scent that is too good for that thing? So the everyday things should not have any of scents at all, and if they have, the worse they are the better scents they have used because then people connect the real perfumes with those good scents in the everyday stuff? I don't really understand what's going on here. I can totally imagine that many cheap perfumes share the same cheap base with those cheap everyday things and both can be not pleasant scents (they smell like petty attempts to smell good or smell like a certain flower) -- in this case the comparison works, I understand it. But if the everyday thing smells good then why is this taken as a bad thing when the same good smell is present in a perfume? I would rather like it then, no matter the source and I would refer to the similarity in a good sense. Anyway, I doubt Guerlain can be really accused in using cheap stuff that's been used anywhere else -- unless that "anywhere else" thing is also made by Guerlain or any other designer company and typically costs more too. I barely use anything that smells strong in my household (except perhaps air fresheners that are supposed to have smell) and prefer all those things and chemicals not be strongly scented so I haven't acquired those negative connections. It's just my opinion and experience, I wonder if Fragrantica has ever written about this problem.

White floral, mostly clean at first, although a slight bit warmer once dried down. The jasmine in it is very present and very fresh, but later on I also smell lily. I don't love lily, so won't get it, but it's not bad. Jasmine is a bit like the jasmine by panier des sens.

Guerlain knows its market audience. Or, at least they think they do. Idylle probably proved that they are, at best, unsure. Fruity and soapy florals have had a popularity surge in this century, brands seeming to compete for how fruity sweet, soapy, and synthetically floral they can make them to overpower all others at nose-blinding retail counters. Guerlain wanted a slice of the pie, but said “our clientele are more of a gentile age and sophistication, so let’s make sure we tone it down a bit”, et voila, Idylle. Plenty of unctuous white florals, purple and green lilacs and hyacinths, ripe banana aromas from ylang-ylang, and some citrusy jasmine segue into a very jammy and creamy white rose accord that is given some breadth by a petitgrain note. The materials used give it a modern bend, but the presentation is decidedly old school thanks to a powdery and indolic-musky texture and soft voices. Unfortunately, it becomes quite tiresome and nearly headache inducing after a while; a bit too synthetic and a bit too "up your nose". White patchouli, slightly earthy yet quite sweet, and more dry musks provide some relief at the skin scent, but it’s a bit too little too late and not interesting enough to rescue the entirety. I’m on the fence with Idylle. It is far from bad, but far from great. It is probably best to consider it a more mature woman’s version of this century’s fruity soapy floral, as I mentioned. That said, if you struggle with the majority of today’s releases in this genre but you still want one then Idylle is probably a solid choice for you. Personally I find it to be as middling as it’s intended to be.

Thank you to the reviewers who willingly share their experiences to help others understand fragrances new to them. I appreciate tips and suggestions I read in reviews here. For those saying this fragrance is too heavy or headache-inducing, try using less. Not all fragrances require the same amount applied on every person. I have found some fragrances need only one small dab or spray to give the effect I want for the existing conditions and my nose. Avoid sniffing your skin rather than the air moving over your skin. You may find some fragrances you like when you apply to wrists or the inside of your elbow but not close to your face. Wearing perfume, to a degree, is as much an art as making it. It’s not about bathing in it so the scent lingers after you have left. It’s about finding the right amount and area to apply to be pleasing to you and those in your close proximity. This means understanding the impact of climate, body chemistry, and application. Only a small amount should be applied when testing and not close to your nose. A fragrance with a higher concentration of fragrance essence and less alcohol will smell stronger after 15-30 minutes than it does when first applied. Give it time to evolve through all profile notes before you judge it. You may find you don’t like the top notes, but 20 minutes later you love it! If the scent is not your thing, that’s good to know so you don’t waste your money but saying it is an old-lady perfume, dated, or vomit-inducing just makes you seem ill-informed about perfumery. (Some of the finest perfumes were made over 100 years ago and sell for thousands of dollars.)

This perfume did what I swore could not be done: it made me like white florals. I grew up smelling White Shoulders on my mother. There were other equally nauseating white florals popular back then as well. They all reminded me of funerals and old women playing bridge. I decided to take a leap of faith and blind buy Idylle. I figured why not because Guerlain has never disappointed me yet. I am so pleased that I did. It’s so pretty! It’s definitely captures that indescribable Guerlain-ness that I’m so crazy for, with all these layers of beautiful florals weaving in and out of it. Guerlain figured out a way to balance all the usual heaviness of white florals with a fresh and yummy musky patchouli at its foundation. I think Idylle is just so universally timeless. With white florals having a real moment right now, I’m glad Idylle is in my collection.

Smells soft, fresh, and romantic. Feels light and hopeful — like a gentle breeze on a spring morning.

A pleasure of gaining experience in this hobby is to be able to recognize from the mere accords that you're going to love something... I just got a bee bottle of Idylle in a bundle of Guerlain fragrances I purchased, and I am extremely pleased. I'd describe Idylle as a soft-focus NR for Her edp. It hits the high points of NR for Her: fruit, rose, Egyptian musk. What is unique to Idylle, though, is the effect of juicy, red fruits that linger well into the dry down. I get more of a strawberry or raspberry than the fleshy stone fruits of NR for Her. Further, Idylle has a softly creamy, soapy rose note at its heart -- lush and sweet. Finally, the Egyptian musk accord whispers rather than shouts. NR for Her edp has a borderline carnal, "dirty sheets" musk which hits with a pungent sharpness; the musk of Idylle has a soft tenacity, warm like a cashmere cardigan (with pearl buttons, if it matters). Eminently springy, girl, and romantic, I really enjoy it!

Some say this is too mainstream for guerlain, i don’t agree. As a fan of Guerlain house, if i blind smelled this i wouldnt guess this was a guerlain. Non powdery floral bouquets, but it still has the undeniable quality of the brand. Most beautiful, very well blended pure floral i’ve smelled. And i’m a white floral lover, i’ve smelled much. Longevity is moderate to long lasting, very well for a pure floral. Great sillage, got me compliments on the very first day i’ve put this on. Narciso for her vibes present but Guerlain did it better, immediately goes in my top 10. Cleanest, most elegant floral ever.

Oh nooo... is this another discontinued gem? I was just looking on ebay for something else and saw the prices for this and realised it is discontinued. I still have half a bottle of the old one because I loved it so much and was afraid to use it up, is about 50ml left then I remember a few years ago I bought another bottle and it was not the same design. What is wrong with these people changing the design of bottles to cheap generic ones? The scent is amazing, light and elegant and can be day or night... ethereal and lasts for ever, projects amazingly... fills the room if that is what you are after. I am. I think I will buy a couple of overpriced bottles now just to never be without this gem.

I got a mini in a gift set. I'm allergic to something in this and it makes my skin itchy. Itching after a day... This is too clean and too mainstream for Guerlain - I love their scents uniqueness. Edit. revisiting as I found an original droplet-shaped bottle from a flea market for couple of euros. It is really pleasant. I'm not a fan of white florals but the soft muskiness holds it up. It has the sweet sourness of raspberry similar to Insolence that I love. I don't think anymore that it is clean smelling, it is so sweet and flowery. Powdery but sweet pollen, droplet of floral nectar. btw no itching at the moment. I like it as a scent aura, sniffing it up close can be too intense. I'm giving it a second chance. :)

How lovely is this! I remember when it came out back in 2009, I fell in love instantly and was planning to buy it, then a friend got it as a present but did not like it so we did a swap ☺️💐 I got Idylle and she got Hypnose Lancome. 14 years later, I found it again in the tear drop bottle with the golden cap and couldn't resist re-purchasing. I associate this scent with clear, bright, spring day; a gorgeous bouquet of tender flowers, youth, happiness and glamour. It has none of Narciso's sultry musc and dries down more powery, so they are close but not identical. It's probably silly of me, but since Idylle migrated to the universal bottles it didn't smell exactly the same, I find the powder note intensified. Am I imagining things?

Nice green lilac with classic fresh and slightly soapy florals and beautiful earthy and refreshing base. Quite realistic lilac (not synthetic and not too heady). Of course, it’s not very modern but quite interesting. Follow me on IG: scent.guide

Yeah I can see how this can smell like toilet cleaner, but who's to say toilet cleaner smells bad. I got it because the bottle is pretty. As a blind buy it smells more powdery than I expected, its not what I would call a pretty scent more so than I would describe a scent passed down from your grandmother, who received it from her grandmother. It is mature. On the plus side its got its own unique stance in a generation of vanilla gourmands and would definitely standout, also good for layering. -My thoughts. I may be wrong.

It smells very elegant, a bit mature but not matronly, just luxurious, put-together. It is a perfume that deserves the title of a perfume - it's not a sugar bomb nor a watery floral essence. It is well-blended and I cannot tell the notes apart.

Last year I made a successful blind buy with Idylle Love Blossom, so I also wanted to get to know the original Idylle. I was a bit sceptical, as I'm neither a big fan of lily of the valley, nor of fragrances that are similar to Narciso Rodriguez For Her (EDP/EDT). In my opinion this is quite atypical for Guerlain, no Guerlinade here. But it's beautifully blended, just like most of their other releases. I guess they're the only house that can make a scent like this work for me! Idylle is indeed similar to the NR For Her line. It uses the same kinds of musk and patchouli. But the notes around them are different. This has a nectar-like, warm and honeyed floral accord that feels very springy, as if it had golden pollen floating around it. I don't smell a lot of lily of the valley, more rose and lilac, but I think the clean dewiness of LOTV might balance out the musk. In the opening, the litchi and raspberry add a lovely juicy freshness that only lasts for a short while. My problem with the NR For Her line is that the musks turn kind of dirty and very overwhelming to my nose after a while. It never happens with Idylle. The scent always keeps the fresh floral notes besides the musk, so it stays clean and polished all through the drydown. The overall feeling I get here is romantic, but also put-together. It makes me think of a strong-willed woman who likes to wear flowy floral dresses, soft pink blush and long wavy hair. As I already have Love Blossom, I don't need this, they are very closely related. In direct comparison, Love Blossom is a little less musky and more focused on the beautiful honeyed lilac. I have only tested this from the bee bottle, no idea if it smells different in other versions.

With its top notes such as freesia, rose, litchi and raspberry you'd expect this scent to be very floral, and it is. The rose is the most emphasized among all of them. You get the other notes quite quickly, and I detect the patchouli the most. It is very feminine and a pretty scent to wear.

This is too much to handle. Too mature for my liking and it just gives me headaches.

This perfume smells heavy, old-fashioned and a bit too strong. I felt nauseous whenever I smelled it. I found it very long-lasting on me which meant I was stuck with this musty old lady fragrance longer than I wanted. I won't be wearing this again.

Got a sample of the EDT and I thought it’s a lovely , Powdery scent so reminiscent of the 80s. There was a sale for the EDP for $69.95 at a respected store ( not a fake ) so I just received it today in the bee bottle . I so wanted it to be less powdery but alas it’s exactly the same . I can smell rose and a beautiful blending of the other flowers but none specific . If the musk was reduced or removed , I would be so in love it this scent . Just feel the excessive powder scent makes it’s so dated and grandma-ish. But saying that , this smells so similar to Xerjoff’s Apollonia which I love . I overlooked the powdery notes with Apollonia . Idylle EDP projects intensely and longevity is over 6 hrs on my skin so I will just use one spray . I don’t think I would reach for this perfume often as it’s just a like not a love . Too much of a powder puff bomb though it’s not listed in the notes. No orris or Iris so maybe musk in this fragrance must be reacting with my skin. Update : Gave the bottle to my mum who loved it . It’s potency is massive on her and I told her to be careful about over spraying .

Fresh, pretty and year-round daytime appropriate. On my skin, no fruit. Lilac, freesia and lily-of-the-valley heavy.

Idylle is a watery crystal rose infused with lily, musk, and white blossoms, as well as delicious stardust. Rose tincture, Freesia, Litchi, and Raspberry are the top notes; Lily-of-the-Valley, Jasmine, Lilac, Peony, and Lily are the middle notes; and Musk and Patchouli are the base notes. I'm over heels in love with Idylle. It begins with a rush of beautifully gentle and romantic blossoms and a really lovely, clean, cheerful opening for me. It rapidly loses its girlish sweetness and settles down to a rich yet warm musky rose that stays true and strong on me for the following 7-8 hours, with very gratifying sillage and the odd whiff of its exquisite understated rosy chypre heart!

I love this scent. It not very longlasting, but i don't mind reapplying. I have a beautiful bee bottle and it really grows on me. Also, summer weather makes this it more powerful on my skin. I much prefer it to Narciso for her. More refined. Curious about the 2021 version. Hopefully longer lasting. But all in all a beautiful Guerlain.

Oh my… Well crafted, absolutely gorgeous scent! Nothing unique, but has a character. Very elegant like most of Guerlain offerings.

Idylle is as close to spring rain as a scent can come. Both the good and the bad smells of Lily of the valley: damp and decomposing but also fresh and slightly cloyingly sweet. Like a mix between Diorella and Diorissimo by Dior, although with an unnistakeable Guerlain DNA. Idylle is a perfect name for it, like an ideal world that is really just a fantasy or memory of something that in reality also has a dark side to it. My review is of the EDT in the older drop shaped bottle. I think that it grows the more I wear it.

This is VERY floral. I got a blast of lilacs when I first sprayed it, and it continued to be lilac dominant for the rest of it's life, which was not that long, maybe 3h with moderate projection until it turned into a skin scent.

I have a miniature teardrop bottle of Idylle from the year of its release. Idylle is a floral-fruity-musk, a style favoured by the manufacturers of celebrity scents ten years ago. Unmistakeably noughties in style, it has little of its own personality, faithfully following the blueprint of many of its predecessors. A little bit of Kate Moss, a sprinkle of Britney Spears, add a dash of Kylie Minogue, and perhaps some Victoria's Secret for good measure - a far cry from what I would expect from Guerlain. Such perfumes are not to my taste at the best of times, but Idylle, while smelling fairly generic, has its moments and improves as it develops, ultimately resulting in a scent that is a cut above the aforementioned cheapie celebrity offerings. Idylle opens with a sweet accord of juicy raspberry and aquatic lychee. Freesia, a popular note in such noughties floral-fruities, features quite prominently. A dirty musk joins the fray, becoming dominant as it develops on the skin, bringing to mind Narciso Rodriguez for Her and SJP Lovely, but is initially not as nice as either. The opening is the worst part - it smells sickly sweet, cheap and dated. The floral heart blooms after a little while, made up of heady white florals and some sweet, watery rose. Lily-of-the-valley features prominently, and is typically green and slightly waxy. I enjoy muguet in perfume, and it is a lovely inclusion here. The florals are complemented by the musk note, which reminds me a little of J. Lo's Glow at this stage - sweetly synthetic and animalic at the same time. The florals become lighter and airier as time passes, eventually becoming pleasantly soapy. It fades to a sweet musky skin scent that retains its soapiness as it dries down. Sillage is fairly strong and longevity is moderate. Idylle is not my style, and not full-bottle worthy for me, but I can appreciate facets of it. It is like an elevated celebrity scent, not to be taken too seriously. Youthful and girly, Idylle is a noughties time capsule, but not at all distinctive. 2/5.
