I was sent something very special today and I thought about not writing anything about it because it's so hard to find. But I think that would be a mistake. So here I go! It is INSOLENCE. But it's in a concentrated form. Designated as pure PARFUM as stated on the label. By GUERLAIN of course. It is in a cube bottle. Very different from the 2006. But released the same year. It appears as though this cube was meant to be used as a tester, placed in a different bottle at a department store etc. We all knew this was happening didn't we? We just didn't have the proof. I think I have the proof now. It's so much better than what you get when you actually purchase a bottle over the counter. Right away, you get a fantastic hit of Violet. It doesn't change very much from there, but it does get sweeter as time goes by. And that's when it comes to be one of the most fantastic violet fragrances I have experienced. Now, before you get upset with me and tell me that I shouldn't review something that other people cannot get their hands on, I beg to differ. This is very similar to what is available today. The only difference is the strength and the longevity. That's always the case isn't it? Go ahead and give it a try. Go to your closest neiman marcus, or perhaps go online and purchase a bottle. I don't think it is anymore than $150 today. Let me know what you think. This is my first time wearing this version of INSOLENCE, so I will come back with a more in-depth review later on when I am more familiar with it. This isn't the accurate spot for me to place this review, but this website doesn't have the exact fragrance within this directory. Gee, I wonder why? Lol.
Violets, raspberry candies and powdery vanilla cake with vanilla frosting. Its like the old Guerlain Meteorites face powder with fairy cakes and vintage lipstick. I don't usually like sweet fragrances but I love this one and its heady intensity. Amazing value, one spray and you get cosy reminders all day. Sprayed on a scarf it lasts a couple of days. The only odd note to me is Hilary Swank as the model. This fragrance seems playful, self indulgent and unbridled to me. Swank seems docile, humourless, old and...scared. Like a zoned out compliant trophy wife complete with a vacant stare and a fake spray tan? The arm candy that men take to a child cancer fund raiser, to prove they've made it, who then goes home and takes care of the boring shit he doesn't want to. The ad looks like its selling performative feminity as a lot of boring effort, like a soul-sucking unpaid job. This bombastic vintage fairy juice is borderless magic that doesn't comply with others demands or timeframes so 🤹🤸 Even though I love it and want to pay the $$$ Guerlain tax to get it. They reformulated the scent and changed the package into that generic bee bottle with a cheap cloudy plastic cap. That bottle reads clearance sale at a discount mens barber shop to me 😅
The opening is lovely, sweet violet with interesting vintage vibes but the dry down on me is almost 1:1 with Gucci Rush - burnt plastic doll head and the weird thing is it somehow gets louder and louder every passing hour to the point it becomes absolutely suffocating, nauseatingly heavy and o v e r w h e l m i n g . The longevity is absolutely eternal, I tried to wash it off after 5-6 hours with no avail. I wanted to like this but it didn't like me. Note: This review is about my 2007 miniature ufo bottle. I bought it myself back then so it is 100 % authentic. I can't remember how it was freshly opened so there is a possibility that it has turned even though I always store my perfumes correctly.
got a vintage ufo bottle on ebay on first spray, was not a fan- reminded me of elementary school and the wonderstruck perfume all the girls used to wear when it first came out. but the real magic of this perfume is in the air, its effervescent, soft, clean, sweet but not in a juvenile way- theres still a very powdery edge to it thats not dusty but creamy. its very very feminine so I like to mix in a woody fragrance like 602 bon parfumer or molecule 04 just to give it somewhere to land. comforting and beautiful, defiantly grab a vintage bottle if u can find a deal, it lasts forever.
Is this the same scent as the EDP in the darker purple bottle?
The violet and iris scents are quite strong, and the lack of diversity with this one might be off-putting to some (I had a friend who would not stop complaining about having bought Insolence after my recommendation), but if you know what you're going for then it is genuinely addictive to wear.
such a cute vintage fuzzy soft candy princess smell. reminds me of old vanities in warm light. girls who believe in fairies. not to be a Disney adult, but I would def wear this to Disneyland #sorrybitches
Its the grownup more common version of flower by kenzo
Powdery violet candy, Rococo style. That's probably the best way to describe it. And I'm here for it. Love it!
This is a strong, sweet violet cloud of a fragrance with a noticeable dose of tonka and iris. My tiny (and rather old) bottle delivers a scent that can feel nostalgic and plush or, depending on the day, a bit too perfumey and overwhelming. There’s a definite powdery purple character to it that can verge on the classic old-lady perfume territory, but it has its charm. I’ve almost decluttered it a few times, yet I keep it around for those rare moods when only a potent violet-tonka haze will do. A maybe, but a memorable one.
This fragrance is perfectly named. It has quite a petulant quality, between the "hairspray"-like berry/citrus on top and the insistent, intemperate violet at the heart. I think it's so interesting that from what I've read online, half the people who try this seem to think it's too candied and the other half find it too powdery. (I think the latter is a reflection of the current sticky-sweet gourmand trend, which in my opinion has absolutely fried the dopamine receptors of many a "gourmand girlie"–if it's not oozing vanilla caramel latte cake frosting, it's apparently not sweet enough. Where's the perfume version of Ozempic?) So yes, for those who favor gourmands, this will be much too floral for you. For those who prefer floral or woody scents, this leans too sweet; it certainly feels fruity and candied to me as violets go, and compared with a more tempered violet like Aimez-Moi by Caron, it's outright saccharine. It does make me wonder who this is for, and my working theory is a) people who don't care about notes and just want a fruity-floral from a luxury brand, or b) people who want to smell like a Parma Violet or Choward's mint.
i found the old UFO bottle of this for a bargain and was soooo excited because the notes on paper sounded beautiful and i'm usually a big fan of guerlain scents on other people. i also love the smell of raspberries, synthetic or fresh, but i really wasn't picking it up here? the violet is quite overpowering. for me this scent is wayyy too cloying and i'm quickly learning i'm not as a much of a powdery scent girl as i initially thought lol. i really want to love it but something about it just makes me sad, like a lost memory that stung, or an unsettling dream. unfortunately for me the sillage is gargantuan and i could smell notes of it after a long shower. i do feel like this could smell so mystical on the right person though, definitely has witchy princess in a little apothecary vibes. maybe she cursed me in another life....
This one starts off with an intense burst of violet and red berries that can feel a bit overpowering. While it aims for elegance, the sweetness lingers heavily and may come across as cloying. It doesn’t quite evolve in a way that keeps it interesting.
I don’t know why I love this. I generally am lukewarm when it comes to Violet or Iris. But this is beautiful. Definitely Guerlain. It is definitely a go to scent for spring weather.
Light airy sweet violet candy. This is up there with L’iris and palatine
This smells like raspberry candied violets from the 1800s. Not exactly what I was expecting, but yum!!!
This is my favorite violet perfume. It’s just so dreamy. The Les Legends collection doesn’t even touch this one-the edt smells a bit like plastic. Which I do like at times but this is just pure violet heaven accentuated by the raspberries, red berries, iris and tonka. It’s not too sweet, too sonic, too earthy, too fruity. The violets sing and smell like the most perfect, pretty feline violets ever. I don’t know why Wasser chose to take the berry notes out. I think k to be true it really needs berries, tonka and smidge of rose. I don’t like Lipstick Rose or rose, violet combos that lead with rose and the rose is here just to soften the petal nose, you have to try this one if you love Insolence. Yes, mine is a little old but once that initial old note burns off, it’s heavenly. Love love love this one.
This fragrance is BEAST MODE to the extreme. At first it smelled like a 90's bath oil bead, which was kinda cute. Then, the violet HITS. Violently. Then it becomes a sickeningly-strong violet-wood-baby powder mess. It smells less vintage and more like an old lady. It's literally filling my house, I can't get rid of it. I've scrubbed myself and it won't. Come. Off. It smells like I'm being suffocated by aforementioned old lady in a retirement village's hair salon with an old towel. Sorry to the folks that like it, but I'm glad I only got a decant!
@blossomlove oooh sounds amazing thank you soo much for your detailed reply I really appreciate it 🙏 ♡
@Myscentbubble- Yes! I have This round flower EDT, the round flower EDP, and the Les Legendaires EDT. I sarted with the Legendaires EDT. There is a plastic note in that one that I don't get in this one. This one is just stunning and if you can get yourself an original EDT of this I highly recommend it. It's balanced perfectly-the star is the violet and she is supported in every way with the iris, sweet raspberry, tonka. The musk, rose and sandalwood are subtle and there to support the composition, I'm assuming to soften that plastic note from the violets and iris. The round EDP smells very similar to the square EDT. I've never smelled the bee bottles. This edt is MUCH heavier with the raspberry note, this is a more complex composition, its fruitier-similar to Mallow by Soradora minus the powdery, musky quality. this is more clean, crisp and pure. Imagine the EDT but with a sweet raspberry, subtle tonka and sandalwood note. This is my favorite version.
Can soneone please tell me, does this smell different from the insolence in the square bottle with the triangular cap? Thank you.
Revisiting this old favorite. Now that I’m smoking again it smells divine. A cold weather confection for unearned cigarette breaks. I have an 06 bottle and since it’s aged a bit more (unloved in the back of my perfume cabinet for years) it’s more thickly fruit-forward than powder. Cheeky sexy cough syrup (complementary). Almost smells Tom Fordish, but obviously way sweeter; girlish, indolent. I spray generously and I haven’t gotten any complaints, at least not to my face.
Well, true to its name for sure, cause this can get from beautiful to insolent in no time. Might be my skin, but never mind how little (according to normal standards) of this fragrance I would be wearing, it'd still be too much. Violet and Iris have taken up the stage here and, while they do smell great at first, as they unfold they get overwhelmingly powdery and sweet especially since the sweet fruits join forces (bergamot and lemon are nowhere to be smelled as per my experience) - unless you've dabbed the fragrance VERY sparingly (and by that I mean 1 microdroplet). In that case it'll stay lovely for the day/night. Not for the day after, when it all will smell sweat+cheap deodorant and you'll just want to scrub the insolence away. It's worse on clothing/lingerie. Obviously not advisable for blind buys. Edit after having read @Lalouve<3's review, which I suggest you to read too: I have NEVER thought of wearing Insolence in the warmer seasons, least of all in summer, but now I resolve to wait summer again, so to conquer Insolence by means of Sun darts.
This is magic in a bottle! I truly love this saucer bottle of EDT. It’s extremely strong for an EDT and it lasts 8+ hours on me. I think the EDP would be too much for me. The first time you sample this don’t be surprised if you think it’s too much. Be patient and evaluate it after the dry down. I can’t analyze the ingredients, but can tell you it definitely smells like violets and has a very lovely dry down. For a more analytical review you might want to search Anamanda. She seems to know her stuff. I refer to her reviews quite frequently.
Guerlain makes me happy. This is lovely. On me, it is a powdery violet. It is not aggressive, but makes its presence known. I am not a real violet connoisseur, however, for some reason this just works. It’s a scent that makes one think, ah yes, French perfume. So many perfumes these days seem simple. One note wonders, if you will. This perfume keeps unfolding over time.
This Perfume smells like Spring in a bottle. It's a sweet & powdery floral fruity Perfume which is perfect for this time of the year. Projection & Sillage beast mode, you'll get noticed easily by people around you. And it's definitely a head turner and compliment magnet. Longevity is around 7+ hours on skin but on clothes it will last longer. This Perfume evolves beautifully from the top to the base but the sweet candy like violet is always there to mesmerise you. This is one of my most favourite spring time Perfume. It's bold yet elegant ❤️ This is a really potent Perfume. So I don't recommend you to blind buy it. Try it before you buy it ❤️
She was a friend in 2006. I was drawn to the shape of the bottle in the airport shop where I first bought her. I have the original stored in the back of my perfume vault. She smells like a flagon of fruit juices which have been steeped with sweet flowers. I drink that heady concoction whilst soaking my feet in a China basin filled with warm rose water, Parma violet sweets, Tonka beans, woody resins and cat pee. Every time I guzzle the fruity floral drink, I smell the throbbing tonka and violet mix. The cat pee (as this is not a smooth sweet musk) disappears but gives the violets a warmth i cannot compare with other violets fragrance. This one is taste and smell combined; an experience. Isn’t this what perfume is. Beyond a smell. The frag in its current format in the new bottle smells like it; but is not it. It’s like a slightly off copy of something but not quite there.
I also found a mini of this in a gift set. It's so pretty light and carefree. The notes blend together so nicely and it last so well and has a good sillage despite being such a soft quiet scent. It's such a shame I'll never be able to own a full size of this. I'm considering the new versions but after smelling them in shops it wasn't the same. Not so light and smooth and kind, this smells so elegant and classy (but not grandma-ish imo) like I'm talking to a pretty woman in a long white flowy dress on a warm spring day.
I found a full mini in a gift set. Insolence is the insolent and quirky little sister of Apres L'Ondee who is shy, introvert and melancholic. Nostalgic - it gives me a strong scent memory of 90s Pokémon candy/bubblegum/something I quite can't remember what it was.
I have the new EDT from the Legends line and a mini of the original version and those few extra notes make a difference to me. The citrus notes, rose, raspberry, and resins make a more rounded, full smelling ambient aroma that the newest edition lacks and for that, I'm probably going to end up buying a bottle of the original round flower bottle and hope that it was stored properly. The new EDT is definitely heavy in the iris and violets and it is very powdery and sweet smelling. My only qualm is that there is a plastic, rubber smell to it. It reminds me of the old, probably toxic plastics we had in the 80's. Or maybe is it crayons? I don't know for sure, all I know is that I layer my mini with the new one and to me, it makes this scent work. I actually really love it and it has become one of my favorites. It's almost addictive-I can't wait to reapply it throughout the day. I actually detest the smell of baby powder and luckily this powdery smell is refreshing and delightful. There is something cool feeling and aquatic about it. Too often florals read warm and so I like that this is a cool, light, floral. My other cool, light floral is Wild Bluebell from Jo Malone. Also because of this scent, I've been looking at more iris and violet based fragrances and it's opening up my fragrance profile.
