Quelques Fleurs l'Original

I first came to know of Quelques Fleurs in the 1980's as it was my sister's signature scent which she acquired by a shady scheme while working at Nordstroms. I coveted it but couldn't afford it at the time, and did not resort to thievery like my sister. Quelques Fleurs struck me as a thoroughly modern fragrance in the 80's with its projection of feminine confidence that went off like fireworks when someone walked in the room wearing her. It felt right in tune with the big hair and shoulder pads era and I regretted that I could not wear it because my sister already took ownership of it. 40 years goes by and I hesitantly purchase Quelques Fleurs for myself, knowing that my sister had abandoned it long ago. It was just as divine as I remembered, if not more so now as I can compare it to hundreds of fragrances I am familiar with now. Quelques Fleurs is strikingly singular in its blend of notes; it is a definitively clean scent but without the soapiness that can turn some noses off. I only recently learned that this scent was first released in 1912, which absolutely blew my mind because not only did she feel modern in the 80's, I feel she still remains modern and chic today. She is rich and complex and expensive smelling, and I find it utterly charming that Houbigant humbly named this masterpiece 'A Few Flowers', which is the meaning of Quelques Fleurs in English.

just got this one today and based of my first impressions on a test strip is that the opening smells so similar to chanel no.19 poudre which is a perfume ive been so obsessed with lately, it opens with a green earthy almost muddy accord and a little woody, then it dries down into a herbal ish powdery floral with a vintage feel, its interesting and its not what i was expecting at all, it can be a little nauseating so if you get nauseated easily watch out, it has that vintage classic feel to it which i love, i cant say i hate it yet, or love it, i like it but it was far from what i expected i feel like the top accords are green aromatic powdery and floral.

sour flower smells, dont touch it if you only like perfumes made after 2000

A very feminine and clean fragrance. On the first spray, I get a strong lily-of-the-valley note, which gradually turns slightly honeyed on my skin. It is soft, pleasant, elegant and never overwhelming. A beautiful, delicate floral fragrance with a lovely clean feel.

this is that marvelous perfume that 'sits' in my house since the 1990s. and despite being reformulated they knew how to beheld an almost unbelievably heady, flowery, Parfum Personelle, with lots of beauty emanating from the first spritz. Rose ánd Carnation, Civet, Ylang, Tubéreuse, Lilac, Jasmine, Héliotrope, Iris, Orris, Orange Blossom and Orchid, what is there nót to choke on. I fell in love immediately and bought at once Quelques Fleurs Royales (2004) too. so that must have been the time I bought these. to lend this review more acuity I now spritzed perfume over the now (after 8 hours) dempening Montale Aoud Queen Roses (2007) and the 'Originale' comes in big sways over me. it is superbly blended and I can also imagine the real Original (from 1913) would have been less sharp and affrontive yet all is well and the perfume is located within that spectrum where I love my perfumes to be. a Super Power Flower missile with yet enough complication and intrigue. the QFR (2004) has a much more simple Diagram of Notes yet is also divine, but this, oh this perfume is oh so sophiticated and feminine. reminiscent to chanel No5 and BoisDesIles, OrizaL.Legrands Marrions-Nous, S'e'crèt Joly and even Vétiver Bourbon, to Creeds 1980s Power Perfumes with Exemplary and Exquise Irises, Roses, Mimosa, Jasmine, Ylang and Tubéreuses. a 'Last Century' Reminiscence with 'Les Salles De Miroirs' and the Petersburg's Amber-Room. also with Boudoirerie, Cocottes, Flappers, Ballerines Russes and Douarières. the Freshness in the beginning I lay by the Green Notes, Tarragon, Orange Blossom. (I had Houbigants Orangers en Fleurs (2012) which was a sort of Calm Giorgio.) precious and loyal to the Orangier. here the Orange Blossom lives in the opening to herald her arriving all, heady and syrupy, hookerish and sinister, blinding and Powder Powering sisters Carnation, Rose, Jasmine, Ylang, Lilac and Lily.o.t.Valley, Iris, Violet, Orris and Orchid. no less. they dance like dervishes and swirl and virevoltent around my head. before this Sisterhood still the refreshening of the Hesperides Bergamot, Citruses and Lemon which I only sometimes can detect distracted from the 'body of the perfume' but here add to a Fabulous Ouverture soon to be outcasted by the Devilish Sisterhood of les Parfums de Nuit et les Arômes Folles du Soir. Oakmoss, Honey (I must think about Vero Kern who was a mastress in Honey), Civet and Musk, Sandel, Vanilla, Amber and Tonka all make this perfume as Exquise as Exceptionnelle. these 3.4oz100mL Edp flacons have a strange Flaw: you always spray too much (the nozzle), not that that is a problem for me. yet I was never an Oversprayer bc my perfumes were always Chemical Accidents Code4. in this Coupe QFO feels right at home. I remember Quelques Fleurs after my acquisition exploded in New Versions: 'Essence Rare', 'Mon Boudoir' (NOTHING shall ever overpower Vivienne Westwoods Boudoir of which I even had the perfume...). 'La Belle Saison', 'Quelques Fleurs Royale Collection Privee' 2016 and more, some of which are re-iterated Antique and Venerable Houbigant Perfumes. but THIS is THE perfume. a Jewel in the Crown of a Collection of 290 perfumes (I must think of the Chandelier Bijan made in his Beverly Hills boutique, from flacons perfume $ 1,000 a piece. and that was also a very rich and Involving, Encapsulating Perfume...) and now: 'Here come the Brides', I am circumsurrounded with the most heavenly Vapeurs et Frilles, Ruches et Joiallerie des Pétales... the civet is very well integrated and engraciate this whole experience.

I've had a bottle of this for a year now and I have not had the bravery to wear it outside the house yet, until today. On the first spray it was very reminiscent of perfumes in the past as the violets and lilacs are really loud and proud. It was definitely a scent that recalled my Mom and my Grandma, which isn't a bad thing for me as they were very elegant women and would wear perfumes like this to complete their day to day looks. Chanel No. 5 this isn't. This is a remarkable beauty in its own right. It is now two hours post application and I find it to be absolutely striking. It's so beautiful and sunny. I feel as if I'm walking in the sun in a flower garden. It's clean, green, fresh cut florals and with a VERY SLIGHT sweet, powdery edge. It is not soapy at all to my nose. This is a perfect spring/summer perfume to wear whenever you want something with a more grown edge to it. Fabulous, Darling.

I’ve had this for years but never thought about it or wore it recently. Yes, I’m in that “ohh what is new that I can wear” well, guess what this is better than any new fragrances out there! It’s a beautiful white green floral and super sexy for spring and summer! I get each and every flower put in this with green fresh under tones. Such a sophisticated OG scent. OG. I pray 🙏, this hasn’t been reformulated in recent years! It can be worn to a wedding or on your wedding day, garden party, polo match…get me 🤩! As for longevity it’s strong you only need a few sprays and sillage excellent. Do not over spray! I’ve had this fragrance for years, but I never gave it much thought or wore it recently. Well, guess what? This is better than any new fragrance out there! It’s a beautiful white, green floral scent that’s super sexy for spring and summer. I love how each and every flower in this fragrance is put in with green, fresh undertones. It’s such a sophisticated, original scent. I pray it hasn’t been reformulated in recent years! It can be worn to any occasion, from a wedding to a garden party or a polo match. I’m so excited about it! As for longevity, it’s strong. You only need a few sprays, and the sillage is excellent. Just don’t overspray!

Absolutely, unbelievably beautiful beyond compare.

Purchased this fragrance because of its association with Princess Diana. Supposedly, she wore this on that famous wedding day. It took hours for this super feminine fragrance to reduce intensity enough for me to tolerate it on my wrists. This scent might be okay if my day included open air carriage rides behind horses, but it's too much for enclosed spaces. The Lilly of the Valley, Lilac, and Ylang Ylang were just too strong for my nose. As a side note: it's reported Princess Diana spilled this fragrance on the front of her wedding dress that day causing a stain down the front. This would be enough of a disaster to move the ceremony outdoors in my opinion.

I have a vintage miniature of the original and crack it open once in a while for a little dab. The opening is bright and fresh and it develops into this beautiful floral bouquet that's set against freshly ironed linen. To me, it has a similar vibe to Estee Lauder's vintage Private Collection - classically feminine, buttoned-up, exudes savoire-faire.

Quelques Fleurs is credited as being the first multi-floral bouquet, and an impressive one it is; sustaining rather beautifully the strongest pillar of Houbigant’s heritage in feminine perfume. This is a review of the current formulation, which does a splendid job of maintaining such a hugely iconic scent. It certainly doesn’t smell as old as you’d expect, this scent profile was decades ahead of its time. It is the essence of clean cottons and linens, freshly laundered enveloping you soft pillowy whites and lathered hand soap. Jasmine, orange blossom, lilac amongst others rest beautifully against the slightly green, stemmy, dewy accord of lily of the valley. But, to save it from becoming cliché and boring, a gummy note of tuberose begins to shine the brightest. It is at once chewy and candied, and incredibly sweet in a spectacularly delicious way. Despite its greatness however, modern constraints can be felt: it lacks the juxtaposed presence of oakmoss and musk that it should have.

A masterpiece born more than a century ago. The older sister of Beautiful and Amarige in my opinion. It lasts for a very long time and I think I am going to make this my summer scent. Bring back the old days please! It starts out very fresh and then becomes powdery floral. This is not for a casual look but for real ladies wearing neat clothes with matching earrings. Oh and please get rid of the term “old lady”. It might remind you of times your grandmother or old teacher where alive and this was a classic back then. It does not make you smell old. It only gives you grace and class. All the old ladies today smell like JPG Classique, Angel, La vie est belle and Red Door and the old ladies in 2060 will smell like vanilla.

I tried a sample bottle of this perfume after trying to match the perfume notes of Yankee Candle Wedding day. First sniff, smells like lily of the valley toilet freshener spray with a soapy but sour dry down, typical of many 1970s style fragrances . it smells like something your nan would love. for me, not that different to Yardley lily of the valley . the dense lily of the valley with headache inducing strong floral and sour dry down really feels vintage and 1970s. it isn't suitable for anyone under 50 really and it's too headachy for the office too. I thjnk it would be ok on an evening or a date. it would pair perfectly with those dresses with huge shoulder pads. it's said to be princess Diana's wedding day perfume , and you know that whole look? the dress , the puffy, the hair.....yes. that era is encapsulated by this perfume. wear with huge shoulder pads and a dropped waist midi dress. not for me. am giving to my 70 year old mom.

It's unique and beautiful. I got a sample and it's kind of addictive. You just want to keep smelling it and on days you don't wear it, you miss it. Have had for about a week and just ordered my bottle. I was unsure of it at first. On dry down it's decidedly floral, feminine, clean laundry straight out of the dryer. It develops in stages with the opening completely different than the dry down. On first spray I get like a shaving foam and toothpaste vibe overlaying the scent? Clean for sure but very odd, like no perfume opening I've ever experienced. I was like, what is this?? I got the sample due to it famously being Princess Diana's wedding perfume (what woman doesn't want to smell like a princess??) and I was so perplexed by the opening. I thought, oh my, this is odd... but it's master perfumery here; this has to develop. Dries down to a beautiful floral. It's somehow complex yet perfectly complete?? It is absolutely amazing this was created in 1912. It's beautiful. Not dated at all in my opinion. Amazing. Kind of addictive. Very unique, wonderful, you just want to keep smelling it especially the dry down. I will be wearing my sample today, I have kept myself back from using it this week to make my sample last. I disagree with scentasart's review below, the longevity is great on me, and it definitely does develop. It lasts a good 6-8 hours (still very faintly there up to 10) and definitely changes/develops in the dry down.

Reviewing a bottle from 2025. Quelques Fleurs l'Original was launched in 1913. Quelques Fleurs l'Original is no longer what it once was. This opens with screechy aldehydes vaguely floral vaguely soapy. Reminiscent of scented hairspray. There is no progression and it is soon thankfully gone. No plants, animals or perfumers were used in this 2025 abomination. Quality: 0/5 Feminine Performance- poor 1/5 Unless you can find a good vintage bottle don't even bother sampling this. 0/10 *The current rating on Fragrantica (Perfume rating 4.07 out of 5 with 1,955 votes) clearly refers to the vintage versions. Fragrantica needs to move current iterations into a new heading. Also, there is obviously no way Robert Bienaimé is the perfumer of this ghastly reformulation since he died in 1960.

Been wearing this since I was in high school. Still the most beautiful, pure, feminine, flawless, delicious fragrance I've ever smelled. I love every phase from the opening to the last whisper. It doesn't smell dated at all to me, nor does it smell modern; it smells timeless and addictive. I prefer it in warmer months, but love it all year round.

I inherited an almost full travel size oil formula of this from my sister. I don't know how old this was, but my sister kept most all of her personal belongings throughout her 60+ years. This smelled like a perfectly blended bouquet, not like a flower shop, it's less green. This wasn't her style, her signature was Poison. So pretty, I'm sad because I clumsily dropped and broke the vial.

Ok, not ok! I thought I read a sufficient amount of reviews, but anyone out there to mention that the tuberose and the jasmine stand out? Anyone? Only me? And it happened that these two flowers are my least favorite, not to mention far, far away of favorite. Seriously?! And, of course, I smell them right away, and they stick to my nose and I can’t smell anything else, even the poor iris, I hoped for. White flowers and something green… Why not the rose, the carnation, the lily of the valley, the lilac, the violet?! For real, these white flowers, seriously! Oh, I’m so… in short, I wish for these white flowers to be quiet. Why are they stealing the spot? Because they can… No, thank you! P.S. Houbigant stated it clearly in their website. I’m wondering what the reviews are here about though?! 🙄

Sweet and citrusy green opening, then turns into a soft, soapy floral. Very lovely. 💐💐💐

A fragrance with both spiritual and historical weight. My only issue is the opening: unapologetically sweet and frustratingly generic; almost shampoo-like. I own Royale from Collection Privée and wear it often; that one clearly contains honey, yet even it isn’t as sugary as this! Once I get past that overly sweet top, I start to enjoy it. A lush, indolic bouquet of white florals unfolds, radiant and full; like the scent of a sun-drenched, opulent garden. The subtle animalic undertone is something I appreciate as well; it adds sensuality while preserving a vintage aura. It is not green, not cold, not restrained. This is a classic and beautiful flowers perfume. It opens with a sweet and pungent burst of flowers and then a strong green note appears. As it dries down the green starts to fade and I can smell sweet flowers again, I can smell the beautiful lilac. It is very feminine and elegant. It is a pleasure to wear now but I think this will be wonderful in the spring 💐💝🤍

After further test, let me just say this is the longest lasting wide sillage perfume I have in my whole collection, which includes some hard hitters. I can smell Quelques Fleurs on me all day!

It’s a great scent. Until l’Instant came out, I always used Beautiful, which reminds me of this. QF is even better. If you’re into florals, you will not regret your purchase.

The green notes, orange blossom, tarragon, and bergamot of the opening create almost the sensation of aldehydes. It's biting and fresh in a crisp vegetal sense, soothing in its natural qualities. A vintage floral mélange follows in vibrant, moist iterations. It starts to fade as oakmoss enters. The drydown the next day is a warm, sweet and beautiful scent. It is very well blended and has so many notes it is hard to pinpoint what I'm smelling, but it never seems too busy or chaotic either. It has the effect of a very natural smelling, vintage floral. Quelle belle époque!

I got my first bottle in 1998, I purchased my fourth bottle in 2022. Although this fragrance has been reformulated from some of its animal ingredients to synthetics, it still remains beautiful and complex. Perfect for a bride, or a grown woman unafraid of standing out with this rich, complex garden floral. Beware, because the edp is strong especially after oxidation. It will stay on your clothes until the third wash! Gorgeous and timeless beauty that looks like I’ll be repurchasing for life!
