This is interesting. It smells like expensive hair products with a touch of warmth. I honestly wouldn’t say I can smell vanilla per se, but there is a powdery sweetness which I suspect is coming from the coumarin and ethyl maltol. The aldehydes can make it smell like nail polish remover in the opening but I honestly don’t mind it too much. All in all it’s a nice comforting sweet soapy scent anyone could wear for a really affordable price.

This is really a tonka bomb - at least for me, it totally dominates the scent profile pretty much the entire time I'm wearing it. The vanilla is definitely detectable the longer it's worn, and I think I pick up most of the flowers when I spray a lot and really concentrate haha. I understand why people say they smell a lot of almond, but I have a feeling it's a combination of the tonka and the flowers. I wish I got more of the patchouli - that would nicely balance this fairly sweet composition - but I'm hoping that might develop the longer I have the bottle. Still, a very beautiful powdery fragrance, and for the price, why not have it in your collection!

Seems like any time I find a perfume with such polarizing reviews, I end up loving it. I want to roll around in this scent like a cat in catnip. It is alluring, comforting. A fuzzy thick blanket fresh out of the dryer with the dryer sheets clinging to it still in the house of someone who only wears Joop! fragrances.

My mam' s signature scent...Love it, it is strong at first but later going soft

I've had it for 6 years, and it is a lot better now. It seems it needed some years in the drawer. It used to smell like an old lady's purse, heavy on the patchouli, now it smells smooth and sweet and powdery. It is a tonka bomb with vanilla and almonds. It's sweet and bitter at the same time, so much so that it is unisex. I really like it now.

I expected more from the reviews. I love Joop Homme, find it deep, sweet, spicy and unisex but this, which it supposedly resembles, is a real letdown. I experience a depressing plastic tonka for a split second, followed by total noseblindness for about an hour, then a weakened plastic tonka returns before petering out apologetically. No other notes cut through. Citrus is a no-show, vanilla has left the building and taken any promised comforting coziness with him. Clearly Le Bain doesn't work on my skin. I will lay it down in my drawer of mistaken optimism. On the plus side, I think this marks a welcome end to my latest blind buying spree.

This part of @marckmenke review I was going to say: "Overall, Joop! Le Bain smells like Joop! Homme! with its most interesting notes removed or reduced. No orange, no cinnamon, no cardamon, and most notably, no heliotrope. Instead, Le Bain comes off mostly as a roughly fresh, citrus-topped, vanilla-tonka-amber and sandalwood." It's true -- Le Bain is the framework of the OG bombshell JOOP! Homme, just without the spices, heliotrope and jasmine of the daddy. It's a pared down, feminine, casual perfume. It's Homme's pretty teenage blonde daughter, with the rosy pink cheeks and smiling, sparkling blue eyes. And I LOVE it! It's ICONIC; just like the ugly bottle shape with the plastic cornflower engraved cap, and shouting font exclaiming JOOP! (that's the part on which we disagree) I hope they never change the design. 😚✌🏻

Darling, if your perfume smells like “cream soda and condoms”, honey….we’re not in the fragrance section anymore — we’re in aisle 7 at CVS, right next to pepto and regret 😂 On my skin Le Bain is pure cozy luxury: soft, creamy, sweet amber that wraps around you like a cashmere blanket you stole from a Parisian penthouse. No protection required - unless, of course you’re planning to leave your dignity at home. If it’s giving condoms, forget the dry down - I’m checking the batch code.

Анонім★★★★★

I previously said Le Bain was inoffensive but now I've worn it a bit longer I can't help but notice the chemical/latex sort of smell to it, it's like cream soda with a hint of condoms (I still like it though lol)

Анонім★★★★★

Iconic. I love it. I impulse bought it and it made me sell a few of my arabian perfumes so that I balance out my collection cause they had the same notes, and no regrets, this is so sophisticated and much better than similar oriental scents in the same price range. THE choice for the winter and also smells a bit like lemon pie.

Blind-bought this one believing it would make a nice addition to my collection. It's ok; suitable most for daily wear, but just not for me. It's a vintage 80's vanilla that some may not like. I suggest not over spraying as this would be nauseating for me personally if i did. Spending $25 on a giftset of body wash and 1oz EDP wasn't too regretable.

Анонім★★★★★

Don't let the name fool you, and don't listen to the ones that use the word 'fresh' when describing Le Bain. Think 90's bathroom, not a modern spa bath. This is a thick, heavy (potent!) potion of the 80's/90's, and I say that with love and respect for both the era and this perfume. Le Bain is beautiful. Try it is you like ambers and enjoy a slight vintage feel. It's not dated, but it does smell like it was created a few decades ago. I'm honestly not sure how to describe it without turning to adjectives; it smells comforting to me. Like a safe home with a warm mom present. It smells slightly of the erasers and toys from the 80-90s - it's very grown up but it also has something carefree and a childlike element to it. Maybe someone I knew growing up used it, I don't know...but it's a scent that makes me feel things. Opening is extremely strong. The scent itself is also very dense. I will experiment with how to apply/wear it, because it can make me a little nauseaus.

Анонім★★★★★

I would see this perfume worn by a drunk smoking woman, who only drinks Cherry Angelli wine or liquor....this is a fragrance that causes nausea, suffocates . There is nothing fresh or reminiscent of freshly washed clothes, as some say in reviews.

Анонім★★★★★

Interesting how something from the 80s can be retro and at the same time not. The vanilla is definitely different from todays take on vanilla. I think it is the combination with aldehydes which gives it the retro-vibe.

Анонім★★★★★

Sour soapy vanilla pipe-tobacco is what I get from Joop Le Bain. I love a good vintage soapy profile but this one misses the mark. Were it not for the addition of bergamot & lemon, and if the Tonka were dialed back a bit I’d be enthralled. Surprisingly that sourness lasts and lasts. Sadly this is a declutter for me.

Joop! Le Bain possesses a very similar construction to Joop! Homme, ...especially that tonka-vanilla base. We might as well call it Joopade. Overall, Joop! Le Bain smells like Joop! Homme! with its most interesting notes removed or reduced. No orange, no cinnamon, no cardamon, and most notably, no heliotrope. Instead, Le Bain comes off mostly as a roughly fresh, citrus-topped, vanilla-tonka-amber and sandalwood. That rough freshness must be emphasized: 'Le Sport' would have been a better name than 'Le Bain'. I don't fully dislike this, but it seems best-suited for strenuous activity in hotter weather. Either sex can wear this, ...but a locker room might be the best place to apply it. Visually however, I have become fully disenamored with all of Joop!'s ugly bottles. The cap, the font, that annoying exclamation mark, everything is overdue for a rethink.

I was intrigued to try this scent for very affordable price online. Since I like clean shampoo and bath scents thought this was going to be a win. Well, not really. I think ingredients are cheap, because it smells up , go take a shower type a thing. For me it's vanilla, amber and musk. I also get burnt cookies scent, not sure if anyone else has this experience with this perfume. It's like taking a bath, in 2 hrs it smelled like it's been a day, time to shower. Maybe on a right chemistry could perform better. It does stick around for half a day, gentle scent but stinky on me unfortunately, so it's a no.

Анонім★★★★★

How did I not know this existed? 🤦♀️ I can’t with myself sometimes…. Ladies, this is so gentle and feminine, clean yet not boring, addictive, good for a signature or all year round fragrance. Not your typical vanilla, absolute steal when you compare quality to price. It reminds me of YSL Cinema, at least the updated version. Both to me smell like if the Johnsons’s baby shampoo was a niche fragrance but Le bain has a vanilla ice cream vibe in addition. I also get a very nice wheat note I can’t quite explain but it’s my comfort fragrance. Absolute staple in my collection now.

Анонім★★★★★

I don’t know you guys… all I can sense is this sickly sweet plasticky note like in Gucci Rush 🥲

Анонім★★★★★

The scent is nice but it does have an old fashioned vibe to it. It's powdery barbershop vanilla and "yellow" soap, like Johnson's baby shampoo kind of soap. Also has a dominant dry herbal note that I'm not a fan of. It's reminiscent of thyme or palm water if you know it. Kind of medicinal. Smells, to me, exactly like Versace The Dreamer that I already have, but this is more vanilla. And I do get the comparison on Givenchy Pi, the vanilla "vibe" is similar; like a boozy, but light vanilla extract. But that is the only similarity. Overall a nice, clean everyday scent, but I'm glad I bought a 40ml bottle.

Анонім★★★★★

Used to love this but it went sour and too medicinal. I can’t stand it!

The perfume opens with a floral note that fades rather quickly. Soon after, the sweet nuances of vanilla, tonka bean, and amber become prominent. The fragrance carries a pleasant, warm autumn/winter sweetness — it evokes a sense of calm and comfort — without ever being intrusive or overly gourmand. Sharp citrus or overly fruity-sweet notes are absent. In my opinion, the composition is a complete success: it combines youthful sweetness with mature elegance. The most dominant notes are tonka bean, vanilla, amber, and a hint of the slightly woody sandalwood note. It’s an interesting scent that leaves a strong trail even with just a few sprays, without ever becoming too aggressive (no piercing notes). I find the perfume to be an excellent perfume for the office, everyday wear, or even a casual meeting. In terms of value for money, there are very few designer fragrances that offer such an appealing scent DNA, such good performance, and an EDP concentration at such an affordable price. A beautiful fragrance that suits every woman — regardless of age or life situation — from the CEO to the secretary to the intern. A wonderful, affordable autumn/winter scent that can be worn all year round.

This perfume is very vintage, with that 80s vibe, but with a modern feel, thanks to its construction with sandalwood, tonka bean, and vanilla that gives it a creamy, warming quality, making it very interesting. It has a very nice touch of almond oil, something warm and velvety, super enveloping, and a sweetness that isn't cloying at all; on the contrary, I found this perfume very interesting. The opening is really a bit startling, but on me it only lasted a few seconds, and soon I was feeling the sandalwood, tonka bean, and vanilla, warming up this fragrance. This perfume is warm, almondy, and very creamy, super wearable for everyday use, but I believe it's better on autumn and winter days, or on a spring day with a milder scent. I wouldn't wear it in the summer because I think it would go bad. I was surprised by the very interesting fragrance and the cost-benefit ratio, which was fantastic; I paid very little.

Very late to this party! A wonderful bargain blind buy based on the stellar reviews from the Fragrantica community. Such a softly sweet delicate and comforting fragrance. I was worried it would smell a bit old school but I think its timeless. Can be worn any time anywhere and would make a great signature scent.

A fresh vanilla almond scent. although almond is not mentioned in the notes. I love it and an excellent value for money.

Few years ago, I bought myself an adorable gift box of Le Bain just because. I liked it, although I was a bit underwhelmed by shy performance. Wearing Le Bain is an intimate experience, something I didn't appreciate at the time. I'm not really an amber fan either. So after a few months of ignoring it, I gave it to a neighbor, it was too good to be just sitting there unloved. She still raves about it. But that gift box came with shower gel that was pure bliss, like a mix of baby care cloud and a perfume like N°5. I enjoyed it immensely and promised myself I would buy more. Lotion too. Good body care has a huge influence on our mood. It also serves as a base for the perfumes we wear. I'm enjoying Le Bain body care so much, that I will probably buy EDP just to make delightful feeling of it last longer. It's that good. Two months later...so, I bought it again and more delicious body care. This is some seriously good stuff! If my previous bottle was this good, I wouldn't have get rid of it. Ever. I think my previous bottle was old stock, that sat on shelf under merciless lamps for years. Top notes were shot, everything was flatter, like with vintage perfumes. This new one is so much lighter, brighter and fluffier. Conclusion, The Bain doesn't age well, like Champagne, it should not sit and wait for years because it looses sparkle. If you have amateurs of N°5, especially Eau Première, you should recommend them Le Bain. Or just buy it as a stocking stuffer. They will love this endless fluffy vanilla dry down. This and its body care are pretty much as safe blind buy as you can get. Just call it Baby Shalimar.

Love at first sniff. Dense, sweet, unique and long lasting. DO NOT overspray! My only regret is not buying the 75ml bottle although 40ml will probably last forever.

Very cozy, beautiful perfume. Doesn't feel dated at all, even though it has a certain age. I don't feel the aldehydes, maybe because the fragrance is well blended. I feel the booziness. It evokes a nice glass full of cognac or rum. If you.love vanilla.and amber, I think you might find a little gem in this perfume. I would wear it with a sweater. Suitable for autumn and winter.

I adore tonka in perfumes, and that - along with the ridiculously low price - made me take the risk of a blind buy. What an amazing purchase! A gorgeous tonka paired with amber vanilla and something that keeps the scent from being cloying or overly sweet - I think that’s thanks to the aldehydes. It’s truly unique, cozy, and perfect for the cooler days ahead. The bottle is simple and lovely, the longevity is flawless, and the projection is just right for me - it doesn’t fill the whole room, but I catch gentle whiffs of it every now and then. Absolutely wonderful!
