Really like this fragrance but I would say it is more masculine leaning. It is discrete and smells very much like a skin, clean scent.

Анонім★★★★★

Strangely overpowering it gave me a headache.

Анонім★★★★★

It smells weird. Something is off. But I kind of like it. And kind of not. Maybe the musk is to strong or Cashmere Woods that is too strong,

Анонім★★★★★

Unfortunately smells like nothing but alcohol. Very disappointed.

i never had this reaction to a perfume before, it feels so nostalgic and so chic at the same time, it just smells like someone who naturally smells good, and i don’t even mean they showered but they just smell amazing, and it’s so effortless and extremely intimate, i love it so much i can’t stop smelling it, it’s divine

This is one of those perfumes that are cloying on paper but beautiful on skin. This a true "your skin but better" perfume. Stays close to the skin too.

this perfume is one of those fragrances that doesn't SMELL like a perfume. it smells like a distant memory of a friend from childhood. it is warm and cozy, while still retaining a tiny bit of bite from the anise note. I was VERY nervous to try this perfume based on the notes alone, as I am not at all a fan of black licorice. fortunately, this fragrance is very well blended and the anise is not easily identified. I was worried I would be walking around smelling like a Good & Plenty, but that is far from the case. when I smell this, it's warm and cozy and rounded. it smells like a tight hug from someone you love. I will 1000% be purchasing a full bottle of this, and using it often. I could see this being a fantastic signature scent! I am wearing in summer currently and I feel like it's suitable for all seasons, at least indoors. I may not wear this on the beach or in the 90 degree heat outside, but otherwise it is not heavy or cloying in the slightest. EDIT TO ADD: i’ve been wearing this for 10 hours now, sprayed ~3 times on my shirt and on top of oil on both wrists and I still smell it STRONG, and it isn’t just musk. incredible!! 10/10 this may just become my signature.

Bought a travel size for myself as a treat and ended up getting a full bottle as soon as I ran out, it's one of only a few perfumes I've bought full sized. I change perfumes day to day but this is the closest I've had to a signature scent, perfect for layering (I often layer it with Libre or Golden Nectar) or to be worn on its own. Despite it's name, this scent is completely unique and I get compliments every time I wear it. It's soft, but far from timid. I get heavy cashmere and anise notes, and while this isn't listed as a note, I get a scent on the dry down I would describe as creamy/milky. It's woody, powdery, and warm. It's incredibly comforting in a gloomy way, perfect for slow, cold winter days and warm, humid fall nights that fill you with nostalgia. If the name Ode to Dullness sounds more beautiful to you than boring, I would absolutely get this scent.

For some reason, all the notes except the anise kinda get obliterated the second this touches my skin. I'm really struggling to pick up anything else. I get subtle undertones of sunscreen and unscented lotion. Despite that, it's still warm and vaguely pleasant. This fragrance reminds me of a very specific place and time from my childhood. I love what it reminds me of, but I don't love the idea of wearing it. I'd probably enjoy it more as a candle than as a perfume. I think this would smell great on the right girl or guy. It's one of the more interesting fragrances to come from Juliette Has A Gun.

spending a rainy evening doing research at the library... white florals covered in morning dew... a stroll through a hidden florida park trail in late september... sitting by the shore during a new moon... ode to dullness wraps itself around the mundane moments that most overlook, but a patient, intentional eye will always notice. for me, it is an evening scent. there is a whisper of a powdery white floral, but that could be the cashmere and anise notes. my nose is normally turned off by the scent of anise tea, but this note mixes well with the cashmere. it's peak summer right now so the sandalwood note isn't too prevalent, but may be emphasized during fall. this is what the mysterious girl at the local apothecary smells like. this also paints a picture of a spontaneous wine and charcuterie date. i think this scent will go great on my boyfriend.

I love this. I got a sample from Sephora and once I sprayed it on my wrist, I couldn't stop bringing the perfume up to my nose. Though it is very much an ode to the banality of the day to day, it is still a good scent. It is an intimate skin scent that lingers close to the body rather than one with a noticable sillage that fills a room. It is a clean scent but one more fitting for those who like "warmer" and "spicier" notes if the anise and tonka are any indication. I usually don't go for clean scents, but this may be it for me. There's a creaminess to it likely owing to the sandalwood, which explains why I like it so much.

ode to dullness sits very licorice-y on my skin. i do get the cashmere, but overall it’s just very licorice-y on me. interestingly enough, it smells more cashmere on my neck and more licorice on my wrists. i do enjoy it, but i don’t think i’ll be upgrading my sample to a full size. i much prefer vanilla vibes!

This perfume made me realise that I absolutely hate star anise note 😣

Анонім★★★★★

Delicious , crispy , unisex maybe even masculine leaning perfume. Anis is dry and woody , beautiful slightly aromatic scent profile ! Elegant and airy, the Cachemire wood really stands out. It has that herbal soapiness of an aura of " cleanliness". Perfect for a man with class , as a summer scent or day scent. 8/10 Drydown is more citrusy than i would like. 7/10 But many man love this Dna in other brands , and here i feel is done better ! So recommended!

Анонім★★★★★

On my 3rd bottle ! I looooove this scent.

I first got a sample of this fragrance last year. It feels so distinctly purple-y lilac. I remembered thinking of it more as a layering fragrance than a solo one, especially because of its poor projection. I got warmth but not spice. And in the drydown― a distinct grape smell. I pulled it from my collection today to give it another try. It's good, and interesting, but not great. Sadly, I love the name more than anything else. It dries down soapy on my skin, and ultimately fails to read as 'woody' to me, despite this being the top accord.

Smells like toothpaste breath

pretty much what the name says. very generic. smells like sweet perfume. I like the spicy note. If you’re basic then this is good for you. But I could see it more as a layer for a bolder gourmand scent with stronger identity. It’s cozy, woodsy, spicy, plain, exactly what it claims to be. I like it but , honestly who could dislike it? It would be like disliking bread. I like bread. Bread is good. But it’s much better with something on it.

Анонім★★★★★

Powdery and mostly smells like so much laundry soap with just a tiny bit of spice. Not a huge fan! Maybe I just don't get it :/

Анонім★★★★★

Licorice/anise bomb. Couldn't get much of the cashmere or even the sandalwood, just straight licorice slapped in my face (disrespectfully)

Bardzo ciepły przyjemny zapach. Znalazłam go przypadkiem i przepadłam.

ode to dullness is what its name suggests... very basic, very inoffensive, and very dull. however, i really like this scent. its very cashmere, very sandalwood, and the star anise makes the wood sweeter. its dull in a comforting and cozy way, as in "today is dull because i will do nothing but sit at home cozied up in my bed enjoying the day." i dont neccessarily find this fragrance boring like other people have been saying, i actually think its a somewhat unique woody scent due to the star anise sweetening the profile. ode to dullness has pretty good longevity, though lacks projection, and leans more feminine instead of unisex. i definitely would recommend this one if youre looking for a sort of sweet cashmere scent.

Анонім★★★★★

I dont like musks, but this is one of the most underrated musky clean scents ever, the anise and the tonka bean add such a comforting warmth so it does not smell like synthetic laundry, so strong and projecting as well and so addicting. defiantly my top 5.

Анонім★★★★★

When I first sprayed this on me I didn’t like it. It’s very unique which is surprising given its name. As I wore it I fell in love with it and it is my most reached for perfume now. It is so cozy and beautiful. I have gotten many compliments. I will forever buy this one.

Анонім★★★★★

This smells like a kitten. Such a cozy, warm scent! This is exactly what a cool, cashmere-sweater-wearing English professor with statement earrings would wear. It's sweet, musky, slightly woodsy, and has a lovely spicy nuance to it!

Анонім★★★★★

What a horrible, horrible name for a fragrance. Nothing special. Not bad though. There is 100% pepper in here, too. I'm surprised it's not listed. It's not a huge note, but it's noticable.

Анонім★★★★★

Ode to Dullness has two notes that take center stage: cashmeran and anise. It creates a gorgeous, cosy scent bubble, and garners compliments left and right. Appropriate for many occasions and seasons, but shines in rainy, cloudy weather. Has a similar vibe to Glossier You, minus the ‘pencil shavings’ smell some people get from Glossier. Longlasting and great sillage. One of, if not the best of all JHAG offerings.

Анонім★★★★★

This perfume has made me come to the realization that the “cashmeran” note smells different to me than most other people. It is like sharp cold static, it overpowers the whole fragrance for me, but I can smell a beautiful slightly sweet tonka/sandlewood creaminess very far underneath this wicked cashmere scent, that makes me jealous of everyone that doesn’t have this problem. Can’t smell any Anise whatsoever. The few times I have worn it, everyone told me I smell amazing. And apparently it has great projection. Lasts about 4-6 hours on skin and lasts forever on my clothes. Sad. I am selling my full bottle.

Анонім★★★★★

I find this fragrance extremely grounding and calming. I wear it more than most of my other perfumes so it’s sort of my signature scent but I often wear a few perfumes throughout the day. This is a beautiful woodsy perfume with a powdery edge and it’s ever so slightly soapy, although I’m not sure what note causes this. I find it soothing when I’ve been overwhelmed, it’s mentally cleansing. I find it mostly easy to wear as it’s not an assault on the senses, but it is strong so you don’t need much two/three sprays max and you will smell this for hours. It has really good longevity and throughout I don’t become osmotic. If you are sensitive to powdery fragrances then this could be headache inducing, it follows you everywhere. It’s a great layering companion and I love to pair it with vanilla woods from 7 virtues which gives it an added warmth. Longevity- 9/10 hours Projections- Fills the room Scent profile - 10/10 Purchase- Absolutely

I bought a tester of Ode to Dullness thinking I was challenging myself with it. I'm usually a floral and fresh girl, not woody. But oh how I was wrong, and I'm so glad I was. I've tested Not a Perfume before and I really didn't like it so I thought Ode to Dullness would be a shot in the dark. Turns out I hit a bullseye. Both have a burning plastic quality to them, but this time around, I think it works in my favor. The plastic feel always comes from amber notes for me. I believe it can never truly be replicated, it will always be synthetic on my skin. At the opening the spicy notes are very obvious. This scent reminds me so much of the wool trench coat belonging to a rich Tuscan mom. She came from humble beginnings and built herself up to where she is now. It is a fresh red manicure, drinking a glass of wine with your gals, and driving home afterwards in your Mercedes. This scent is so incredibly sexy I can't get enough of it. After this perfume settles a bit, I get reminded of New Year's Eve. It is the calmness of choosing a new beginning for yourself. Ode to Dullness has incredible longevity. I put it on before I called it a night, and while it did lose its punchiness after about an hour, by the time I woke up it still lingered on my skin and in my sheets. By then, I could finally smell the white florals Juliette has a Gun claims are in this perfume. Even if it was barely on my skin anymore. All in all, very sexy, very night out, very comforting. Ode to Dullness is a warm shoulder to cry on, she makes you feel good about yourself and she speaks confidently in a way you only wish you could begin to. I regret not blind buying an entire bottle, when fall rolls around Ode to Dullness will absolutely be in my rotation.
