Baie 19

Baie 19 - Second in my Le Labo sample journey! Juniper and I famously do not get along. I don't know if it's because it without fail reminds me of Vick's Vapor Rub, or if my personal chemistry just seems to reject it, but it felt pretty prevalent here, to me. I would even say that maybe it was the ozonic quality and patchouli that made it that much more darkly medicinal on my skin. That being said, while I was not a fan of this, I did not hate it. I very much appreciate Baie 19 for how it was blended and what it is going for. It is damp. It is cold. There are hundreds of sap-tipped pine needles stuck to wet dirt, blown in by the wind beneath incoming stormy grey skies. Something oddly metallic in the distance, and you can't quite tell if it's coming or going. The dry-down finally gives the sense this storm has passed, but not without casualties in the form of bruised fruits that fell into a damp hollowed out log.

I like it a lot. The opening is woody, earthy patchouli giving way to metallic, ozonic rain falling from the sky. When it fully settles, it's fresh relaxing patchouli --- reminds me of a spa in the late 90s / early 00s.

Wet, earthy, green patchouli with a hint of juniper. It kind of reminds me of fresh bay leaf. It reminded my partner of moss.

Fresh take on patchouli with a little musky powder thrown in. Nothing really special. Smell like a very diluted version of Vetiver Moss by McQueen. Doesn't smell like Ice*Men besides both being centered around fresh patchouli, Ice*Men is a lot more complex & interesting.

Icy, minty and masculine leaning scent. Nothing extraordinary.

I fell in love with the fragrance the moment i smelled it. Although is pretty linear the petrichor accord is great. Wet foliage notes, petrichor and slightly sweet florality that makes it cozy. One of my favorites for sure

I've worn this fragrance now off-and-on for more than a year, and have to say the things I didn't like and did like about it are each amplified. There is a distinct turpentine/gasoline smell that is off-putting and un-perfume like at the start. About an hour later the magic starts, and it cocoons you in warmth. One thing I've come to really love about this parfum is its suitability for layering- I've layered it with light all the way to heavy (e.g. Dior Homme Parfum) perfumes and it really creates these lovely, artistic olfactory notes that aren't simply 1+1 = 2. The price tag is high, but one thing this perfume can never be accused of is being generic. I also feel- though this could be my imagination or my batch - that the juice seems to have become weaker / staler over the year.

I get the watery notes and petrichor accord on paper but it smells like copper tone sunscreen on my skin lol. Someone else would probably be super into that but I am not. Bummer

When I smelled this perfume for the first time I was immediately transported to a calm forest near a stream, after the rain. I could smell moss and wer flowers in the distance. The imagery that came to mind was the painting of Ophelia by John Everett Millais, calm and nostalgic.

Smells like an armpit to me

I am always torn on this one. I have the tiny 15 ml bottle because I love rain frags and blind bought it. Some days I absolutely love it and I can smell fresh, clean, watery rain with wet stones and soil. But other days for some reason it smells like permanent glue or chemicals? So odd. But on it's best days it is such an amazing scent if you love the smell of earthy ozone.

Everyone says this smells like rain and nature. I can kind of get it but not really. Love this smell, very clean and light and airy. This perfume is a light blueish grey to me. It is subtle and light. The juniper berry and ozonic notes are what I smell the most. Really love this smell, but I can understand that it isn't for everyone.

tiger's balm, crushed eucalyptus, fresh mint. androgynous leaning masculine.

It smells like musty camping gear that has been kept in a wooden shed, in a fresh, green forest. I am not a fan of most petrichor notes and this does have a bit of dampness that my nose reads as mold instead of wet concrete. It's earthy, green/brown, but still has a bit of fresh mountain air. Not a huge fan of it, but would be good for transitional weather.

This just might be one of the best thmgs I’ve smelled in a long time. Stunning

This is going to sound very bizarre but this fragrance is like smelling clean air next to a decomposed wooden cottage by a stream in the forrest. It opens with the scent of dew-drop on moss, damp river stone, and ozonated mildew. It is quite complex and has a wonderful dry down of musk to complement the other clean and aqueous ingredients in a way that is quite seductive. It is a very unique and intriguing scent that really grows on you and is subtle but sophisticated. Perfect as a niche, biorealistic, mysterious signature fragrance.

I remembered that I wanted to try this but couldn’t remember why until I sniffed it and immediately got rain on concrete, plus warmed up wet flowers. This is amazing… I can’t stop sniffing my wrist. It’s so gentle, very feminine but not in a gourmand overly sweet way at all, just elegant, feminine florals plus rain, it’s kind of amazing. Fairy forest.

The most unique offering by Le Labo. Super ozonic petrichor scent with a patchouli base. Certainly evokes that wet concrete after rain scent, not the typical soil after rain that petrichor takes its name and origin from. After the disappointment of Another 13, Bai 19 showed me that the brand does have something to say and isn't just overpriced water.

The girl at Le Labo had a line-up of dried test strips and explained some of the concepts to me. This was supposed to be the exact smell of the ground after it rains and boy was that on the money. It mimics that smell very closely. It was also my favorite out of all Le Labo fragrances. It's very green but not in an artificial way. It is truly reminiscent of a forest at dawn in Fall. I'd like to spray it on myself before I make a purchase this expensive and see what the lasting power is on skin, but it's a truly beautiful fragrance and I don't think I've ever smelled anything quite like it.

Barbasol vibes. Smells like men’s shower gel. Sporty. Wet. Fresh. Smells like something Prada would ,are for the men’s line

This was not a good blind buy, especially given the price. I'm a Le Labo fan, generally, but this one just missed the mark for me. I don't like the musk note and not enough (hardly any mineral notes). It really doesn't remind me of petrichor, which is a smell that I love. Definitely sample this before buy a full bottle.

BAIEby got back... into my lineup. My first fragrance love. After a year away, I craaaaved that "springtime rain on a back alley, stirring up the violets that grow and gas leaks that accumulate in the cracks in the cement" smell. Ahhh, there's no place like nose. Errrr...home.

Queue Roslyn by Bon Iver. This smell is that song in a bottle... Totally alone walking though a dank pine forest, the rain has just stopped and the sun has come through warm, there is a fog of steam rising, coating the juniper bushes in a mineral musk. You take this moment to lie down and allow the ground to fully take on your shape and you stay here a long while. On a less poetic note - this frag opens GIN but quickly melts into pine tar, wet mulchy needles and settles wet soil. I'm new to perfumes so struggling to compartmentalise 'ozonic' but it definitely feels atmospheric and evokes a melancholic emotion (in a contemplative way not a depressing way)

Smells like a hippie if they actually bathed

Beautiful and evocative petrichor scent. Not quite a wet forest, maybe more a rainy city park in the Pacific Northwest. Slightly distracting strong patchouli note. I also wish it felt a bit cooler in temp. Not sexy in of itself. You have to be really attractive and stylish to pull this off.

It smells like soft rain seeping into old driftwood. intimate, quiet, almost too personal to notice on my skin.

asphalt after rain, dries down to wet petrichor. not sweet at all which is a good thing. unfortunately i cant smell it on myself after some time but others have reported that they still smell it on me. ah, wish i could smell it all day, i just want to burrow myself in the sharp dampness of this scent
