Tango

Tango, by Masque Milano, smells like leather, frankincense, cardamon and sandalwood. It smells very similar to Kintsugi and Russian Tea, from the same brand.

Gorgeous! this ambery resinous dense sweet scent is masterfully composed. I have two scents from Masque Milano and both has this aspect of stopping right before becoming too much. Tango stops the sweetness before it is too much, stops the funk before it is too funky,..etc. So the end product smells well balanced and so meticulously made. Became a favourite. Edit: this made me not buy several fragrances as I kept thinking “yea, but I have tango, don’t need this”.

At first it didn't like it! At all. For the first 5 minutes. Felt like urine. Then WOW , it evolves so surprisingly! Gorgeous, deep, sexy! The name of it it's definitely suggestible!

Delicious, incredibly blended spicy balsamic amber with florals and woods in the back. I really get amber, cinnamon, and cardamom throughout the entire performance. But each time I sniff a different note peeks through: rose, jasmine, cedar, tobacco, rosewood, orange zest, honey, vanilla. It's never too sweet or cloying. The cumin isn't present much on my skin but it might just be my sample. There is certainly a dry and warm spice pushing at the beginning - I think that's the cumin. I wish there was more! But anyway. Tango just smells so amazing, it's interesting and intriguing and wants you to keep coming closer. It's not challenging at all but still doesn't quite smell designer to me - thank God. It just smells so warm and bright but also deep and reserved but also confident and passionate. Projects a couple feet for a couple hours and then just a foot or less for several more hours. 2 sprays on the neck and one on the chest, 7 hours later I'm still catching whiffs as I move around. Perfection. Unisex.

I'm exploring a few (affordable would be nice) alternatives to Profumum Roma Ambra Aurea. It was suggested I try Masque Milano "Tango." I own and adore MM "Kintsugi." I thought, "Why not try Tango?" Tango is an immediate, automatic, very strong like...okay, it's a love!! Opens as a thick, dark, very spicy, resinous, chewy amber. There's spicy cinnamon, cumin and cardamon (I love cardamon in fragrances). I am not a fan of the cumin phase, which adds a skanky, or unwashed nuance to the fragrance. Within minutes, the cumin note passes and a lovely floral medley emerges. I definitely detect a sweet, hay-like floral clover note (melilotus), a bit of jasmine and rose. But the florals are not ethereal or gentle; these are flowers still in their dirt. Spices emerge and beautifully blend with the unfurling notes. The woods provide the perfect backbone for this spicy, resinous, floral, amber-centric perfume. Tango's dry-down is glorious. Tango is not groundbreaking but it is a pleasant departure from your ordinary "run-of-the-mill" amber-centric perfume. And while I refrain from gender-categorizing fragrances, I think Tango leans unisex-masculine. But as an older woman, I love Tango. I'm happy I added it to my wee perfume collection!!

Don't listen to the previous review, utter nonsense. I won't go into volumes on the scent, other than how it's a gorgeously dense, benzoin-rich, white floral amber, sprinkled with spice in the opening and cloaked in leather on the drydown. But describing these oils as weak, "like an eau de toilette or eau de cologne", is a ludicrous thing to say. I don't believe anyone's skin can be that adverse to fragrance. 2 sprays of this lasts all day, and I don't stop catching whiffs of it until I shower later that evening.

Quelle déception... J'aurais tant aimé l'aimé et l'apprécier Zarokian est un de les parfumeur favoris mais elle m'a déçu sur ce parfum. On m'avais dis que c'etait un des plus beaux ambré qui existe... C'est faux C'est un ambré tres doux , tres tres doux , tres tres tres doux ... Trop doux meme , il ne laisse qu'un léger nuage de parfum , sa concentration est minime et il est très dilué , on dirais vraiment une eau de toilette ou une cologne ambré... C'est vraiment dommage car la qualité des matières est la , aucune odeur d'alcool , le cumin est discret , le reste des notes se fond à merveille Malheureusement tout ceci ne dure à peine 1h et est à peine perceptible... On est tres loin d'un ambre nuit esprit en terme de puissance et de qualité olfactive. Le spray brume est excellent Malheureusement je préfère le vendre et continuer ma quête de l'ambre parfait 📿🏺

Torn… I keep trying to give it a chance to win my heart. I want to love it… We compared many niche ambers side by side on skin. It’s definitely a standout in complexity and depth. Leans animalic with oud in the base. To be fair, oud is not a love of mine, but if you are warming up to the idea this is the right direction to take yourself. Cécile Zarokian does vanilla exquisitely and she never disappoints her fans. What is the problem, maybe a personal one? I find it a little headache inducing, maybe cardamom? This is crazy because I love cooking with it and grinding its seeds in preparation for recipes. Here it is attached to a sweetness that I also find in Amouage Memoir Woman. On paper both fragrances scream notes I would love in my head, but when executed and put on my skin, disappoint, actually repel. The manufacturer’s 10 ml has a very impressive sprayer and is a delight to use. The dry down mellows some and becomes cozy, but the first hour is pure torture. The top syrupy sweetness must die down to be enjoyable and it does. The base is the magic here, too bad I can’t spray it and walk into its dry down immediately. If this were possible it would be full bottle worthy!

rose can be musky and animalic. Cumin like sweat in a hot night out. Honeyed amber, a bit of wet fur and piss. But it never really gets there: just teasing, and that's the beauty of it. I mean, look at jasmine, the queen of ambiguity: almost dewy and fresh, but her petals are lined with intoxication waiting to be released. There is plenty of other spicy and resinous notes at play, and a dark rose oil accord that glues them all in a dense, almost chewable paste: candle lights, lanterns at night, celebrations, festivities. It's a beautiful scent, not so easy to wear in the daytime though.

An outstanding fragrance in every sense, with a beautiful spicy-amber profile. Performance is excellent, offering over 7 hours of longevity on skin and around 4 hours of strong projection. It feels very luxurious and refined. While the price is slightly high for the 35 ml size, the scent quality and performance more than justify the cost.

Notes are waaaaay off. Below are the notes as shown on the back of the retail packaging. HEAD NOTES Bergamot, Black Pepper, Cardamom HEART NOTES Sambac Jasmine Absolute, Damascena Rose Oil, Cumin, Patchouli BASE NOTES Vanilla Bean, Melilot Absolute, Amber Accord, Leather Accord, Benzoin, Musks I smell no heavy cumin or patchouli notes. They are very subtle so I don't know why some would say it's great for cumin lovers. Montecristo, however, has heavy cumin notes and even though I don't like smelling like food, it works pretty well. But beware Montecristo smells like cumin for its entire life.

Goldilocks amber, must have fragrance. Gorgeous, well made, wearable and a bit exotic.

This somewhat smells like raw meat to me, and there is something slightly metallic, too.... The dry down becomes more powdery and the metal disappears, but the meat is still kinda present? Longevity is somewhere between 3-4 hours, but I also don't dare to spray more than twice or so on my neck.

Outlands v1.0 - rougher and less mainstream than The Essences version, thanks to cumin + mildly pissy jasmine. Bitter ambery base.

Boozy, woody, somehow animalic. Not for everyone. It's good for a winter date night, but there are too many others I'd reach for before Tango.

Oh, this is lovely. It strikes a mysterious balance between fruit and ferment. It's sweet but very, very deep. It really does recreate that dizzying feeling of sipping a strong cocktail laced with a candied something-or-other. It's ultimately not my style, but I love it nonetheless.

Tango immediately goes to sweet dark boozy land, and it’s a lot of fun. Bright-brown, not too heavy, with a slight fruity nuance like the cherry in your Manhattan. Amber is the main event here; the spices and woods are subtle. It’s sweet but with enough darkness to balance it. Not as ponderous as most other ambers (which would be exhausting in the heat). Tango actually feels like something you could go dancing in! Tango stays the same all the way down to the drydown: just a friendly rum-brown scent, with a slight Coca-Cola aspect, that flashes its smile at you all day (or night). For once, a Cecile Zarokian perfume that doesn’t smell like a dessert!

Testing my sample; intensely spicy amber that remains spicy on my skin, gets hints of rose, woods, and some powder as it dries down. If you've ever smelt Youth Dew, Cinnabar, or even Obsession, this is within the same family. Perfect in cool/cold weather, I'd wear this in autumn or winter.

Undeniably ambery from the start (not overly sweet) with some metallic tones I would've ascribed to musks (perhaps the Rose?). Retains the ambery/floral feel throughout the wear, but when I dig my nose in it, I get something cuminy, and something very earthy - though I doubt that's felt in the air around you. Somewhat sensual, and definitely sexy.

This is an incredibly nice fragrance. Masterfully blended with amazing notes that all come together to produce a very unique and sophisticated spiced amber. No this is definitely not animalic and no it is not overpowered by the cumin. It’s perfect. I would definitely not wear this in a casual setting. It’s too elegant and refined. This is what you’d wear in a suit and tie just as much as a gown or dress. It’s perfectly unisex. Cecile is a genius! 9.5/10 for me.

Dark and heavy handed spice vanilla amber I expected more of a labdanum resinous ambery darkness, instead there is more of a very much suave yet ultra hefty intensity of deep and almost overwhelmingly carnal/animalic vanilla heavy amber, sweet woody benzoin linking it with an intense cinnamon and tenuous cumin top note. A bit of baby wipe/powder with a hefty cinnamic spice component grows as time passes over a sweet floral backdrop. Dense, sweet yet dark and ”full“ in a sense. Tango is quite a suitable name, as what this composition may lack in tenderness or subtly it makes up with in passion and intensity. Not entirely my cup of tea, but interesting and exciting.

My unsophisticated take: This smells like dettol and salty, starchy potato chips. I can’t think of it any other way.

I've been meaning to comment on this for a while, but I couldn't do it without allocating a separate and special time. This fragrance was love at first sight for me. It is the thing that broke my prejudice against cumin. I have many samples and a bottle of this house, but I think this is the most special among them. The clearest summary: spicy-vanilla-powder. Yes, even though the powdery is not visible in the head accords, the drydown is all about it. This spice is very soft and beautiful, not like the Ambre Sultan (by Serge L) style spice market. The trinity of cumin, cardamom and cinnamon is in the air! Fluffy! It has a sensual mood that feels very intimate. In other words, the scent is both intimate and spreads very widely in space. I think the floral notes give it strength in the background, but this fragrance is never what I would call 'floral'. Every stage is lovely, the drydown is wonderful because it is very very smooth! Vanilla, tonka, musk and a soft powdery note (although I don't understand where it comes from) linger. It is a perfume more suited to winter and autumn. I am very happy to have it. Sophisticated and sensual queen!

Tango starts out with a spicy opening that has some bite. It slowly smooths out as it dries down. The appearance of the rose note is very evident but it doesn't stay pronounced for very long. It retreats somewhat and provides more of a smooth and creamy texture to the fragrance. No worries about the cumin - no sweaty scent at all. As it evolves further, it sweetens up just a bit and the resins and amber come to the front. There is also a slight powdery touch. Overall though, it's a slightly sweet, with mild spices, amber fragrance. Longevity is good, with Tango down to a medium strong skin scent at about the 8 hour mark. Projection is on the milder side although stronger for the first hour. All that said, Tango is a nice amber fragrance BUT I prefer the two ambers I already have: Ambre Sultan, which is warmer and spicier than Tango and Molten Ambra which is a little sweeter and smoother than Tango. I'd put Tango in between those two. For myself, though, I prefer the two extremes.

It's a really complex scent, kinda like deer musk and spices; it starts animalic and sweet (cumin, I think), then gets all ambery, creamy, and woody with a hint of rose and jasmine. That's what Tony Montana in Godfather would wear.

The first 10 minutes of this scent are somewhat challenging. It's an amber that feels raw and animalic, the cumin note, the indolic jasmine, and the slightly medicinal tone can be really harsh. But the evolution is marvelous, it becomes sweeter, more rosy, more airy. It is a golden amber with depth and tons of character. Very good but sample it first.

When I first got my nose on this, I didn't quite understand it. My nose wasn't ready and I wasn't a fan of Cécile Zarokian's work as a perfumer yet. Fast forward a couple of years and man, what a gem Tango is. It's the dirtier, more animalic version of MFK's Grand Soir. That last sentenced resumes Tango quite well, I think. But let's dig in deeper. Tango may be challenging to some because the opening is quite punchy. It's a blast of cumin and jasmine to your senses. Some struggle with cumin (some describe it as sweaty) or jasmine (very indolic, especially since here Cécile used jasmine sambac, which is more indolic and some would say "sexual") will have a rough time. If you can get through that, you're in for a treat. I would say this one isn't for beginners. Tango will as its name implies, change and gives you whiffs of its notes in quick succession, like a fast paced dance. It will be one minute floral, the next smoky, then ambery and shift around. Like its namesake, it is also very sexy, seductive and begs for attention. Not one for work, admittedly. This is for a night out, a date (and possibly a following torrid night!). It lasts long, very long. 8-10 hours later I'll still be catching whiffs of it as I move around. It projects quite a bit initially as well, you'll easily fill a room if you're not careful, so do be careful in enclosed spaces (unless of course that's your intention). I would say this leans a bit more male because later on it gets more smoky but a woman could pull it off if she has a strong presence and charisma. Definitely a stand out in Cécile's portfolio, in my opinion. Her signature is all over this one. If you love her work, get your nose on Tango asap. Beautiful and complex, as I've come to expect of her work.
