Soooo…what’s up with modern drydowns? The opening of this fragrance is amazing, the middle is even better, but once I get to the drydown it’s a BIG letdown! A beautiful citrus opening, a wonderful Alien middle with jasmine, and then the whole fragrance just disappears into an almost dryer sheet base. Where’s the vanilla? The musk? The sandalwood? Even with the use of synthetics there is no reason for it to fall so FLAT, and that’s exactly what happens on me. This should have an animatic musk base, not the cheap white musk that is so common in modern perfumery. It feels like Mugler didn’t even try on this one.
I really thought I was going to love this after the first spray. The opening is gorgeous—fresh, fizzy lemon zest with a dry tea note that's really calming and natural. It feels bright without smelling like a cleaning product. Unfortunately, it goes downhill pretty quickly on my skin. As the citrus fades, it becomes really powdery and starts smelling like a men's aftershave mixed with dusty potpourri. There's something about it that just puts me off, and I honestly can't pinpoint exactly what it is. To my nose, it smells quite dated. The drydown is softer, with a slightly creamy sandalwood and a hint of vanilla, but it never recovers from that overly powdery middle. I wanted to love this so badly, but this ended up being a scrubber for me.
Alien Eau Extraordinaire is the softest, warmest, and most quietly luminous member of the Alien family - a gentle, sunlit interpretation that keeps the DNA but trades intensity for serenity. The opening is a warm citrus glow: bright but not sharp, soft but not sweet. It feels like sunlight diffused through pale gold fabric. Instead of the usual Alien punch, you get a smooth, uplifting radiance that’s surprisingly comforting. The jasmine here is lighter, airier, and more transparent, almost like jasmine petals warmed by the sun rather than the narcotic beam of the EDP. The heart is where Extraordinaire shows its personality. It’s soft, warm, and slightly creamy, with a gentle amber‑citrus aura that feels like warm skin after being outside. The cashmeran is toned down, giving a smooth, velvety glow rather than the usual Alien shimmer. Everything is softened, rounded, and made more wearable - but the structure is still recognisable. The dry-down is a warm, golden skin scent with a hint of citrus and a whisper of Alien’s signature radiance. It’s intimate, comforting, and quietly optimistic - the kind of scent that feels like a good mood rather than a statement. Performance: Projection: soft to moderate Longevity: 5–6 hours Sillage: a warm, glowing aura rather than a trail Alien Eau Extraordinaire is perfect for people who love the idea of Alien but want something gentler, warmer, and more daytime‑friendly. It’s the “soft sunshine”, almost golden hour Alien - warm-solar, luminous, and easy to wear, without losing the DNA completely. 7.5/10 - a warm, golden, quietly radiant Alien that feels like sunlight on skin. Warmth first, Jasmine second, citrus third. Temperature: warm, golden, soft Mood: comforting, gentle, serene Texture: velvety, smooth, warm Jasmine: warm, airy, sun‑soaked Base: amber‑citrus skin glow Emotional effect: calm, warmth, quiet radiance Feels like: warm skin after sitting in the sun.
Hello fragrance fam! Alien Eau Extraordinaire is an excellent discontinued floral and tea focused perfume. It's original formula will have "Thierry Mugler" typed on the front of the box. It was later reformulated when the logo was changed to "Mugler" after 2018. USA: To Sample the original formulation of Alien Eau Extraordinaire visit Vintage Decants. :)
For me, this is pretty but not amazing. As most have already said, this is true to the Alien DNA, but much softer and more powdery and doesn't last as long as the original. Citrus and tea are interesting additions, but it's something I could live without.
This is amazing, Bright Alien that hugs you and tell you it's gonna be okay! Citrus-y and creamy due to sandalwood. It doesn't last long as it EDT, but you can wear it in lazy summer day. I managed to get 30 ml bottle for 50$
The Alien DNA is definitely present. It's got a very citrusy, zesty opening with bergamot and green tea which soon make way for the bright white flowers (neroli, tiare) that are just a touch spiced up by the pepper and ylang. The composition is well blended and warmed up by vanilla and cashmeran, with a woody, yet creamy dry down. I gotta say, I really love this one and I'm so happy I got my hands on a big bottle!
I love this! May be my favorite Alien so far. Tea, floral, musky, citrus, bright! Reminds me of Khadlaj Mystique Bouquet, but better. Maybe Gharam too, but better. Of course it’s discontinued. I don’t know why I keep doing this?
Guys this is back on muglers website!! It looks like apart of their 40% off sale they put up some dead stock and I just got the 90ml bottle for $63!
Nice, fresh, citrussy, slightly green, this is so much better than the og alien. This one has better complexity and smells lovely.
This version of Alien is actually nice (I’m not a big fan of the OG). This smells fresh and woody. I like the bright citrus side of it as well as dry and molecular woody base. Reminds me of something else quite recently. Might be Valaya Parfums de Marly.
My two scents as a girl that prefers all the flankers?? Mugler needs to have a YEAR or holiday season, there they re release ALL the flankers! Since they’re so dumb and discontinue all the good ones?? They would see by doing so, which flankers really sell! And us perfume lovers were buy multi bottles! This and alien fusion are two of my favs! Pls pls Mugler!!?
wnt to the perfume store to try and get this for my MIL only to find out it's been sadly discontinued? Left with Alien Goddess (? lmao they don't even smell alike :( this smelled like a more refined Alien, truly a testament to their name, Alien but better, fancier, more refined and rounded. Rest in power Queen!
Reminds me of a mix between Olympia and Versense with an added creaminess. I love the tea note in this which is nestled between bergamot and the amber. Perfect if you just want to smell good and inoffensive- it would be a good office scent or if you’re seeing someone who’s sensitive to smell.
Oh this is DELICIOUSSSSSSS…. I’m so mad I just tried this at my friends house because now I NEEEEEEED IT!!.. but it’s discontinued 😭. To Mercari I go..
Another Alien I'll never get to try. Sad. Oh, how I adore Dominique Ropion.
A more cheery version of the OG, with jasmine in the opening, surrounded by citrus. Then, a symphony of white flowers, with an undercurrent of pepper and amber. Delicious, although not a gourmand.
So much of of Eau Extraordinaire feels indiscernible to me - a strong citrus and tea opening that quickly becomes muddled. There is certainly tiare, pepper and amber present, but so swaddled in a synthetic seeming musk that it falls very flat. I would like to consider this a fresh, earthier cousin to the hyper jasmine Alien but I feel this version doesn't do well, enough.
Really upset this performance got discontinued. My mother had it and I would steal it because I loved the citrus smell.
The Alien DNA is there, but with fresh citruses and green TEA! I also get a bubbly fizziness with this perfume, like a sparkling beverage when I wear it. One of the better Alien flankers in my opinion.
This unfortunately was discontinued. It’s the only perfume beside anything peony that I think works best with my aura and pH. It smell HEAVENLY on my and not so great on my significant other lol. Does anyone have any suggests to something similar or close to this scent? Add a review and I’ll come find it if so
Pretty, summery and light. Alien Extraordinaire is a bergamot and tiare forward EDT that's perfectly nice for a warm day, but not special or unique enough for me to want to upgrade from a sample to a bottle, so I won't grieve its discontinuation.
For me its very different from the original alien its an older version it has a more mature scent and a day scent for sure still prefer the original version as this one really doesn’t last that long like 3.5 hours max if im lucky its a stay close to skin smell projects well the very first 30 mins then its sort of gone skin close scent. Its bright citrusy but has a darkness to it imagine a pond in the middle of a forest you see a bright light and the sun is beaming but hints of the dark forest is around
Alien Eau Extraordinaire is a light and pleasant scent, reminiscent of Alien eau de toilette but with a prominent tea note. Instead of shelling out $$$ for a full bottle of this, I just layer my own Alien EDT with JLo Still for a very similar effect.
I got this when it first came out, I was so excited to see the cool bottles and try them all at the department stores. I ended up getting it of course, and I had fun with it for a while. It's super strong and will be the last Mugler I own, unfortunately. Beautiful design, bottles are artistic and beautiful...but the longer it sat, the more powerful it got. I learned my lesson. She's just too powerful... Purchased from Macy's or Nordstrom, can't quite remember.
I'm discovering that finding a perfume that doesn't have powder stank is like... trying to find a microwave meal that doesn't have onions. I hate onions, but everyone else loves them. I hate powder stank, but everyone else must adore it. This started out as a very soft floral - I got no citrus, only flowers, and nothing special, nothing that caught my attention. The blandest of florals. But in minutes that was overpowered by powder stank and I died. Hate. The only perfume I've tried so far that has more powder smell is Bvlgari Omnia Coral, which also killed me with stank.
This is a refreshing citrus scent that is pleasant but not life changing. As an Alien flanker, it tends to be quite expensive, but I don't think it merits the price point. The bergamot and tea is very zen, and its a nice scent. I'd wear it to the office or on a holiday but it's not a date night fragrance.
On myself, it's beautiful, and I think it works really well with my chemistry, however on paper, this smelled like dirt to me! So try actually wearing it instead of just a paper test. I tried this as an experiment, as a big Alien fan, to see if i could enjoy more citrus and green and pepper- which I tend to stay away from. The answer is yes. It's done very well here. It's delicious, inviting, more wearable than the original Alien, literally nothing offensive about it. And still sweet and slightly warm. To me, it's like they took 30% Alien, 20% Aura and 50% Alien Goddess. That's what I make of this, and it's gorgeous. A good in-between for all those 3 fragrances which take a bit more commitment. I would buy a full sized bottle if it were as cheap as my current summer go-to. Edit: now that I've worn this a few times, i notice it leaves me craving Jimmy Choo Illicit. Then i did a weird experiement where I layered Illicit with Mugler Aura (EDT) and BAM! I've just made Alien Eau Extraordinaire <3 so there's something about them that's similar, but Jimmy choo is more amplified with the sweetness and less green.
It is pretty, has a nice and uplifting feeling to it.
A very easy going and lighter take on the original alien. I use this fragrance when I want a light and happy fragrance. Perfect for around the house or during the day during spring and summer.
