Ormonde Woman

As someone for whom most fragrances either smell rotten or give me a migraine, this one is my holy grail of magical goodness. I'm obsessed with the unisex-leaning femininity of it, and I can't stop smelling myself. It's the perfect mix of smoky, spicy, smooth, powdery, and sweet; and I think the notes stay fairly consistent from start to finish. I love vetiver fragrances, but have a hard time finding one that isn't too strong, doesn't turn sharp, or isn't paired with overpowering florals. Also, I normally hate the powder notes of violet, but here it works for me. It's like the powderyness of a thick log decomposing in the forest, rather than baby powder. I definitely see why this wouldn't work for everyone (skin chemistry is so unique) but I'm glad it works for me.

To me it smells like powdery iris, very soft.

Started off lovely and deliciously fresh on me, bloomed beautifully. But it got VERY strong on me AND turned into powder, which is a No. On my partner it was spicier, and even now has a spicy woodyness to it, I'm not getting powder. Wonder if it's different bc I'm wearing it in my elbow and she's wearing it on her forearm? Will attempt again not in elbow another day.

Wanted this to be my signature scent but it barely projects. It smells so good in the opening but dries down very quickly and becomes a skin scent. I don’t need a nuclear performer but I at least want something that others can smell around me after 30 minutes.

I blind bought this and tried it for the first time today. It feels light and airy, and absolutely niche. One of the strangest perfumes in my collection, yet still quite comforting. And as a woman, it makes me feel powerful for some reason! I have this feeling while wearing Iris Malikhan too. So far, I love it ❤️

Perfect for women who prefer fresh & outdoorsy fragrances, yet do not wish to smell like burning wood, men's cologne, and/or a shrill, synthetic ozonic from the 90s. Opens foresty & dries down to a very soft, dry, fresh & slightly powdery-sweet wood scent. Very natural & feminine compared to others in its category (looking at you, Chanel Eau Fraîche). Woman is overall a beautifully versatile & unique fragrance. My only complaint is that the Iso E Super can become a bit much & the grass + coniferous evergreen notes don't dominate nearly enough.

Even if you love chypres, sample Ormonde Woman first. The synthetics in this blend can smell strange to some people. Not quite "pencil shavings", but it smells milky and brassy to me simultaneously. I think it's the discourse between the "cedar" and the jasmine. Otherwise very enjoyable. I love the unusually smooth green notes in the top. Maybe I will acquire a taste for it, I'll keep sampling it, but I don't enjoy this one so far.

This is soooooo damn good. This is for the confident, cool woman with natural sex appeal who has no interest in smelling like the masses. I can absolutely see why this is an acquired taste... The balsamic and green notes will not be for everyone but if it works with your skin chemistry, it feels like a literal gift from the gods. On me, it is a very clean floral, with jasmine and violet taking center stage. But the green accords and sandalwood cut through the florals beautifully, keeping them from going too bridal or overly powdery. It also has this sensual quality that elevates your mood and makes you feel incredibly put together. If you’re trying to gauge what this smells like, I would describe it as sweet, balsamic, clean but not too soapy, and floral. I actually do not get much of the spicy top notes. 10/10; masterpiece level. Every time I see a bottle for a good deal/sale I will grab it as I do not ever want to be without this fragrance.

This is quite nice. The hemlock is addictive, and this is a pleasantly green and springy take on a woody profile.

I was really unimpressed by this one. it had promise at first, but at least on my skin, it quickly dries down into something bland & characterless. there's a femme-leaning spiciness I enjoy, but it's at odds with the floral powdery notes that push this far outside of my tastes. it also has an odd sort of marshmallow-y sweetness that lingers at the back of my nose, cloying like a cheap deodorant it's generally inoffensive, & while it's not a terrible smell, I never want to wear this again

Smells like Cuba to me. Hardwoods, spices, dries down to a kind of sluggish, lactonic warmth. I wish more of the florals and greenery pushed through. The grass is very strong in the initial spray but disappears very quickly. It's gentle, feminine, and the hemlock gives it something different. It's very elegant and intelligent, I just wish it was a degree less sandalwoody. This has one of the biggest contrasts between opening and dry-down I've experienced in a perfume, too.

The opening presents a distinct green character with a slight dryness, reminiscent of crushed conifer needles. It feels fresh and very clean. At the core of the fragrance is a relatively uncommon green material—black hemlock. In practical terms, the smell is very close to the scent released when pine needles are rubbed between the fingers. This material defines the personality of the fragrance and sets it apart from more conventional woody compositions. As the scent moves into the heart, the same green-woody outline remains. Violet gradually appears, softening the edges and giving the structure a smoother contour. It does not resemble the mossy tone of a traditional chypre, nor the dry timber character of a classic woody fragrance. Instead, it conveys a resinous forest atmosphere with a faint coolness. By this stage, the profile is essentially established, with very little fluctuation afterward. The drydown introduces sandalwood and cedar, maintaining a clean woody finish with a subtle resinous undertone. From a structural perspective, it aligns more closely with the modern green-woody direction within the chypre family. There are no dramatic contrasts or pronounced transitions—just a steady, continuous impression of a forest-like environment.

This is the perfect daily driver. It’s soft and airy but still interesting. I wasn’t sure what to expect with the notes because grass can be “too green” for me sometimes. This somehow manages to be green without being sharp. The pine and grass is rounded out nicely with the violet and soft sandalwood notes. I’m surprised there’s no citrus listed because I definitely get whiffs of lemon in the opening. Glad I finally got around to sampling this because it’s been on my list for a few years now and it’s really lovely all around. Perfectly unisex, average longevity, and projects at maybe an arm’s length.

Clean and clinical, soft projecting and powdery in the drydown. Other words that come to mind are intellectual, poised, mom, silver. It’s just like the pyramid says : woody, aromatic, spicy, powdery and green. I have other scents for day time that work at all seasons, but I like it. Needs to be louder for me

There’s something that catches in my nose here. On immediate application, it feels like being in a close urban space with someone wearing unmistakeable “perfume.” But the more general scent profile is beautiful. Pine, airy, something almost soapy-floral. Expansive, which I mean as a contrast-term to “dense.” I’m interested.

Starts out like fresh pine with a hint of grass after rain and something floral (I think that's the jasmine or the violet), with a hint of something that reminds me of incense. The latter becomes more forward while the pine fades on the dry down, at least on my skin: it becomes warm, woody, a little spicy and mysterious. Reminds me of a combination of a walk in the forest during winter or decorating a Christmas tree.

The EDP has been my signature scent for a few years. Was running low and was just about to buy a new bottle when the discontinued it and released the Parfum/extrait. Just got my hands on a sample and…I’m disappointed. The initial blast lacks the black hemlock magic and leans HEAVILY into a more densely concentrated, admittedly beautiful lavendar. But it reminds me more of (the also discontinued) imaginary authors’ telegrama than of my beloved Ormonde Woman EDP. I will have to see how the dry down goes, if it transforms back into the magic I’m used too. But i guess I’ll be scouring the secondhand marketplace for bottles of the EDP - which seem totally wiped out on eBay/mercari/Poshmark right now. Sad times.

I still stand by my old review of the chemical mess that was the most recent Ormonde Woman in the eau de parfum concentration, but I have to admit that this new formulation in the parfum concentration is much much better! It isn't the magic of the original, not even the original edp but especially not the magic of the original parfum, but it doesn't make me feel nauseated or irritated like the most recent eau de parfum did. If you, like me, were horribly disappointed in the reformulated edp, you might give the newer parfum a try!

Reminds me of going to chop down Christmas trees as a family or going to hike in the forest. I might just be new to perfume, but it’s strong at the start and very ‘fresh’ and fancy smelling (which reminds me of my grandma, but doesn’t really fit who I am). After wearing it for half an hour though, it smelled woody and even a bit sweet/warm. That wood smell lingers too: I fell asleep with the perfume on and could smell cedar on my wrists in the morning. Overall, I like it :)

I wasnt expected to like this as its quite woody but it is amazing!!!! its like a fresh crisp christmas tree that dries down a little sweet on the skin. and with the hint if powdery florals i seriously LOVE this

Darn it, I still can’t do it. These milky peppercorns on a sweetly balsamic base plus a truckload of ISO E Super now reads to me as Lanvin Oxygene rendered in green. If this makes any sense, the vibe I expected from Ormonde Woman I actually got from Oriza Legrand’s Reve D’Ossian.

This smells like a less herbal version of Cosmoss. I have both and prefer the latter, for that in-spa feel. This is soft, reflective, herbal - a spring or autumn day perfume for a mature and sensitive person. Despite the name this is unisex.

Ormond Jayne woman is a gorgeous fall/winter fragrance which had a spiced grass scent that is unique enough to be elegant. I really enjoy wearing this as long as the temperature stays below 25C. I just finished my small bottle and will replace it with others from my collection. I found it to be reminiscent of a blend of Cartier Declaration Parfum and Must De Cartier which are two of my favorites.

Astringent and mature. Left a physical bad taste in my mouth and ramps up to be aggressive and room filling. Smells like synthetic chemicals of flowers. Something my grandmother would have adored.

dust on velvet couch, the french windows are wide open onto the meadow and the room is filled with boughs of hemlock and mauve wildflowers, the spice cabinets are overflowing and there’s books open and single pages covered in mousey handwritting strewn over the whole damn place. basically, took me all of 5 seconds to fall in love. hemlock is at the core and rounded beautifully by all the other notes. i don’t detect the jasmine but everything else is here, and it’s coalescing into a greenish syrupy resin drop with purple moiré tints. it feels both thick and airy. dry down is full on amber and violet powder with a touch of spice. something about this feels anachronistic, it’s modern realistic niche perfumery and vintage ambers colliding.

I have always loved wintertime "pine" scented candles best, but I never thought it would translate to perfume.. Particularly because pine notes, if I saw them in perfume, seemed to be in masculine scents only. This is the piney but also at the same time sweet grassy and floral perfume of my dreams... So far the projection is not as good as I want it to be, though, I would waste so much expensive juice trying to turn up the volume on this! Curious to see how it fades...

Ormond Jayne Woman - I find this to be a stunning fragrance, but honestly, if I had looked at the notes first...I would have passed on this altogether. Grass to me did not sound appealing. However, I did not know the notes in this fragrance when I tried it. I spent about an hour at the Ormonde Jayne counter at Nieman Marcus - trying all of the fragrances on tester strips - the opening, the mid and the dry down. This fragrance is signature scent worthy. It is beautiful. I bought a travel size - 10 ML. It creates a soft and addictive scent bubble. It took the 3rd time wearing it for me to pinpoint what it kind of reminds me of...I know this will sound crazy, but it is reminicent of Dior Addict. I know...I know...according to fragrantica..the only note the 2 scents share is Jasmine. But somehow ..the mid and into the drydown reminds me of Dior Addict, not completely and in no way is this a dupe. There are addictive qualities to both fragrances. That said, I find this fragrance to be unique. Ormonde Woman is softer, fresher, greener, but not too green because it has a subtle sweetness. Sublimely feminine and elegant. This can be worn all year round. Nonoffensive and I believe it would leave a gorgeous trail behind you..soft..not to in your face. I think it might be considered more mature...definitely not old, but sophisticated (think woman not girl). Step into your elegance and sample Ormond Jayne Woman.
