Kalan, Kalan, Kalan - my my oh my. This isn’t a fragrance, it’s an omen. Only the bravest, boldest metahumans step forward to face Kalan and live to tell the tale. And yes, I love it. But Kalan chooses its wearer. It tests your chemistry, your mood or mindset, your olfactory training, your very spirit. The everyday crowd will flee. The timid, the lightly scented, the ones who fear the unknown, they’ll sprint a mile away. But the chosen few? They’ll recognise Kalan as the beautiful, blazing and glorious tempest it is. Sometimes I enjoy layering Kalan with Eros Flame to soften the overall composition - worth a try!

I don't know if my nose is broken compared to others, but it smells like bell peppers to me

I don’t understand the hate. It’s super unique and almost has a graham cracker smell when it dries down that is super good.

My last review of Kalan was 7 months ago. I enjoy it so much, its already caught up to being one of my top 5 most worn of all time. Earning itself a spot amongst the few that I have multiple bottles of. I'm already half way through a 4.2oz. It's fresh, earthy, spicy, sweet, floral, woody, mossy and metallic. Though combining so many contrasting facets, is different without giving the "doing too much" sense that some fragrances do. Imo it plays perfectly between interesting, simple, unconventional and wearable. I'm not a fan of BR540 at all, but over these months I came to see more clearly why some compare the two. Smell wise I think it's mainly the sweet clean metallic aspects and oakmoss, the one note they share, imparting contrasting effects and texture in the base. But they depart from one another in very significant and character defining ways. This is far more earthy and spicy. Which remains even once it reaches it most similarity to BR. To my nose, 540 greatly minors on the spice while using all other notes to put the burnt sugar on display as its winning attribute. That's not Kalan. Those who have said ladies love this on a man, you were absolutely right. In the wild, when it's flowing through the air, it grabs attention in the best way. Kalan is more about a feeling. An aura than a mere smell. To me its clean, dirty, modern, sexy (so I'm told) and classy. I'm glad it exists in all of its polarizing character. I love it.

Kalan has one of the boldest openings I've ever experienced. The blast of blood orange and black pepper feels sharp, vibrant, and almost metallic, but that's exactly what makes it so addictive. As it develops, the fragrance becomes warmer and smoother, with rich amber and woody notes creating a refined, confident character. This isn't a fragrance I wear to please everyone—it's one I wear because it makes me feel powerful and distinctive. It has a strong presence without relying on excessive sweetness or freshness. Every time I wear it, it reminds me that luxury doesn't have to be loud; sometimes it simply speaks with confidence. Kalan may not be love at first sniff for everyone, but if you give it time, it reveals a personality that's incredibly memorable. For me, it's one of the most unique creations from Parfums de Marly.

Perfumey, but in the best possible way. If you dislike fragrances that unapologetically smell like “perfume,” stay away from Kalan. This is Parfums de Marly’s interpretation of the polished designer scent profile you might encounter at Sephora, only pushed into stranger, more niche territory. To my nose it’s perfectly unisex, albeit with a masculine lean. This is a fragrance for people who are tired of syrupy gourmands. Instead, Kalan offers a vegetal freshness wrapped in spicy pepper, a subtle metallic sheen, aromatic lavender, and airy white florals. Together they create something that feels vibrant, green, and undeniably luxurious. Curiously, Kalan is one of those rare fragrances that performs better in the air than directly on the skin. From a distance it smells elegant, distinctive, and beautifully diffusive. Up close, however, its sharper metallic and green facets can become abrasive, even off-putting to some noses. For experienced fragrance enthusiasts, that tension is part of its charm. It’s unconventional, memorable, and refuses to play it safe. I only wish the composition had been blended with a slightly softer touch. A smoother execution would have transformed an excellent fragrance into an exceptional one.

I'm not usually interested in this type of perfume, but it's a great scent for those who are. If I were to buy a winter perfume from PDM, it would definitely be Althair.

Spicy, attractive, dark, masculine, the blood orange with black pepper opening is incredible, definitely a date scent,I sprayed it on my sweater and it was still on when I wore it a few days later. If I would buy a winter and fall perfume from PDM, it would definitely be Oajan and Kalan.

I can't stand this fragrance. Smells like dirt and tomatoes. I'd be surprised if any woman found this attractive.

I had heard a lot of praise about this fragrance, but I actually tried it on my skin several times a few days ago. It has a very interesting scent profile. To me, it feels like a different take on Pegasus, heading in another direction, centered around red oranges. It honestly warmed my heart when I saw that Gent Scent placed this fragrance in the D-tier category on his YouTube channel. I came here afterward and, of course, the snobs absolutely trashed this scent with their ratings, haha. My question to you is: what exactly is your problem with this fragrance? A clear sign and guiding star for me is when I see a fragrance getting a criminally low score on Fragrantica, being labeled as underrated, or attracting a lot of hate comments. That's usually when my interest is piqued. One thing I can say with confidence is that this is a safe, easy-to-wear fragrance and a solid overall perfume.

Overhated for no reason, it’s an ok fragrance, similar vibe to Pegasus exclusif but not better

there is a love hate relationship between this fragrance and my nose, one day I love it the other I cant wait to wash it off. There is something about this that I do like, probably the creativity behind it, that keeps me coming back to it and wanting me to try it again.

PdM - Kalan is my favourite perfume of all time. It has a very strong note of blood orange and lavender that smells like a 12V car battery. The projection is LOUD and metallic almost like sunlight hitting a freshly cleaned car kind of smell. I have been wearing Kalan since 2022 and bought it again in May 2026.

You have to be confident wearing this and expect mixed reactions. This is probably the strongest masculine cologne ive smelt. Shouldve been named Parfums de Marley Sonnen as in Chael Sonnen.... I CAN'T LET YOU GET CLOSE

Totally unisex, becomes more sweet and feminine when it dries down. Does NOT smell plesant the first few minutes, too peppery and bitter but turns into a delicious, good projecting cocktail as it settles in. Not my favourite from their unisex line but it’s good

This perfume is like a blend of BR540 and Dior Fahrenheit—it’s a scent that will lift your spirits every time you catch a whiff.

It's ok. Five spice'ish at the beginning (similar to Xerjoff Golden Dallah) mixed with citruses and general "perfuminess" from salicylates. A little bit boring

This one is very challenging indeed. I remember smelling it for the first time and it was nothing like I have ever smelt before I was in Hawaii at the time. I just did not get the frangrance at all and was so confused by it. I went back to the store every day for 6 weeks. Anyway in the end I brought it I don't love it but I have learned to appreciate it for what it is. Kalan is way,way out there if that makes any scence at all. This is not a safe blind buy like the rest of the PDM highly recommend you try it first.

Had a(n) Eureka moment. This smells like Antaeus and BR540 layered.

Opening is borderline unwearable, but the dry down is very nice. 6/10 def would not spend over 200 for this

Purchased my 2nd bottle of this. Kalan and Haltane is the only two really worth having from this house if "niche" is your thing! Peppery, Earthy BR540
