You and your golden retriever in a range rover are going to the mountain retreat
Got a sample. Opening smells like calamata olives. lol. not for me
This is not for the younger crowd, and moreover not for the casual fragrance wearer. This is niche. In quality and in smell profile. The opening is unforgiving labdanum so thick and raw that it comes off inky and balsamic to the max. The animalic component is strong in the opening, and I suspect it’s from the way the Peru balsam is handled here. It is not a light, tactful approach to balsamic. It’s rugged and unrefined, I believe intentionally. I detect a booziness to this one that I feel comes solely from the fact that the labdanum and balsam are so heavy-handed that they create a drunken amber with some astringent punching power. It starts to transform fast, and it does shift character a few times throughout the wear. This is not a scent to stick your nose in and smell up close. You want to be downwind of this, picking up a passing whiff. That’s where the vanilla and softer ambers poke their head out for just a quick second to keep you in it. The oud accord is definitely not barnyard funk, it’s closer to a cheesy funk. I suspect that the oud itself is actually a pretty approachable western oud but the balsam overdose brings an animalic edge to it that creates an oud funk accord. Again though, it’s tempered enough in the symphony of rough and tumble that by the time you process it from sillage alone, it simply becomes mysterious and intriguing.
Today I applied just a little bit—and I mean *little*—of Ambre Loup, and good heavens, I think this scent is fit only for a midnight shamanic ritual... and not just because of its impressive sillage (though the sillage is indeed quite strong); it’s that this original 2012 batch of Rania’s Ambre Loup possesses a darkness that feels like making a pact with the Devil himself. It is so heavily laden with labdanum—a raw, unrefined formula—that you practically sweat out its resinous intensity before the vanilla and woods finally kick in at full force. It captures the beauty of the lush and the forbidden. Dangerous nocturnal beasts seem to come along and keep you company when you wear it... A marvelous olfactory experience.
Classic heavy amber accord with big, fat labdanum, little twist from guaiac.
An absolutely gorgeous, rich incense. Wonderfully balanced. Not for the faint of heart, but also not a weird or difficult incense. Beautiful. :)
This smelled nasty on my skin. It feels extremely vintage, gives me the same feeling as Chanel No. 5. No no no. After a while, I got some sweetness that reminded me of maple syrup. Then I had to scrub it off my skin.
(2017) Calvini@Silviaci is right in saying "Amber is not listed because it's a perceptive note combining resins (labdanum) and balsams (Peru), sweetened by vanilla (and/or tonka)". Naheed Shoukat Ali, Fragrantica editor writes about 'amber': "Before taking you through the pages of history further, I must also share about amber in fragrances in between. Perfumer Adam Gottschalk writes how the amber note is obtained in perfumes, which is rather a combination of benzoin, labdanum, and vanilla which gives the feel of warm, a little sweet and woody amber and mingled with other notes it emerges with its various characters. With just a basic combination of amber and oudh in Rasasi's Amber Oudh, it gives the wearer a warmth of sweet amber laid on bitter oudh. The best I can describe the combination is as a carefully designed gold pendant hung on a heavy gold chain, that's how it feels." yet what then still is an enigma is if the real collected and petrified and millions of years old AMBER, pictured, is in itself fragrant. with the following addendum all becomes unclear again, as the clarification expressed by Calvini stays true of course, it remains a complex matter where NAHEED adds: "Amber stones are always warm to the touch and comforting to the sense of smell. Amber has not only been used as jewelry or in fragrances, but it has also been considered as a medicinal remedy for many diseases from the ancient times till now. Talking further on fragrances, in Imari, one of Avon's classics, amber has been nicely blended with aldehydes, sandalwood, galbanum and vanilla to give it a bright warm feel. Amber in DKNY's Gold is light and woody just like an amber pendant when worn around the neck, and when it touches the skin, together the heat of the skin and the amber emit a warm fragrance which is so comforting and light.". I think I stick by Calvini who sums it up crystal clear: "Amber is a perceptive note" so we make it ourselves with the (also by Naheed) aforementioned "co/notes". by the way, I love amber, I love (yes yes) Obsession (ladies) and I love "Ambre Loup". yet the strangest anomaly is that I do not get any vanilla and the oudh only in the end. (that has changed !) this doesn't matter so much bc the opening is stupefying. very tarry, spicey and this, for a long time. the labdanum then, cloves and spices, vanilla and peru-balsem build up to its royal ambery heart. such are the enigmas in perfumery. ps: 2+ hours in the oudh and vanilla appear, at my skin at least. (april 2026 other, less derivative review) this perfume 'sits in my collection' since it's inception 2012. yesterday, since probably 15 years and maybe somewhat shorter, I spritzed it on again and I immediately remembered the exact smell of the perfume. only did it then still had a surprise in petto: it was the full Amber perfume as I remembered but it was dirty. this evened out in half an hour. I first thought it had gone bad. but that has almost never happened within my perfume landscape of 299 bottles. now this morning I noticed all the 'foul smell' was gone. I had it reduced to the Oud which also shapes the perfume. however now it turns out to be that precisely mesmerizing deep Amber perfume as it was in 2012. beneath I saw reviews by someone who doesn't smell a thing, and someone who reduces the Amber in the perfume to all types of Amber -aromachemicals. each person has her', his' own experience. but there is of course also the fact I have the first batch. so several variables can influence the perception. but to my experience this is one of the purest, deepest Amber perfumes I know. and apparently I love Amber perfumes since, what I still judge to be the best Amber perfume of all times (for me) (still): Calvin Klein Obsession (1985). yet this perfume is that pure Amber & Ambery perfume that sets a Standard again. and to my senses this is accomplished by all Natural Amber Materials, used by Rania Jouaneh. Labdanum, Vanilla Absolute, Peru Balm, Agarwood and the familar Amber coloured 'Glob' (sign of a by combination accomplished perfume note from Labdanum, Patchouli, Vanilla and also possible the aromachemical compounds) is even absent here. while the Guaiac Wood and Oud and Cedar (= real Cedarwood) add piquancy and further woodiness. yet to really characterize this perfume we must stress the special quality of the Ingredients which are used as also the behavior of this 'Amber-sensation' as a Fluidum, which has infinite depth and richness and seems to pulsate and soothe endlessly. yesterday I didn't mind the 'foul note' but it is spritzed free and now this is that perfect Amber perfume with unusual depth and opacity, which I absolutely adore.
It smells like rootbeer, not the kind that you get at the store but like the high-end almost homemade ones. I love it!!!
Are we smelling the same perfume? I can barely smell anything. How is this possible? I got it from an official department store. It has the faintest smell ever! What is wrong here?
Decent amber, could use a little more polish
Opening is very boozy, then as the booze dries down you get this amazing amber . This is a beauty, but the boost opening, to me, puts it’s below Profumo Roma Amber Aurea and MFK Grand Soir. Smells like a Serge Lutens amber
I just got a 100ml bottle direct from Rania J...oh wow. Intend to give this a full wearing tonight and think this goes top two with Amber Nuit esprit as my favourite amber frags...a 10 out of 10 for me, personally. I just might spring for a back up bottle as this is hard to get here in the UK.
Oh my god. I was buying Samar Kand online and then thought of getting another perfume from this brand and I chose this one cause I love Amber… Oh my god, I love it, I truly love it… Rania J, I will blind buy it all…
Warm spicy, slightly sweet/musky woody perfume. Cozy feel for winter weather. Dry warmth.
To my nose, this is extremely similar to Vanille Havane, but with some differences that give it its own character. While Vanille Havane leans more sweet and vanillic, this fragrance brings in the sweetness and pushes a bit further into the woody, slightly animalic territory in the base. The result is something that still carries that familiar warm, amber-tinged vanilla vibe, but with a drier, more textured backbone that feels more nuanced and less gourmand.
These kinds of briefs confuse me. Not because they don't make sense, but because EVERYONE knows that even though this doesn't contain 'real' amber (or so it says), it contains every other amber-esque aromachemical -- ambrarome, ambralene, ambranine, ambranore and probably even ambraleid. I mean, it probably DOESN'T have amber, but neither does Amber Sultan, Amber Absolute, etc... It is a wonderful combination of accords -- I've picked up something I've come across in an Orto Parisi scent, I'm sure, and in some ways, it's part of the whole Angels' Share - Oajan trope, but done better, I feel. Smooth, gourmand-esque resins, sweet vanillic notes and a wonderful balsamic tone throughout. I love this scent!
First wearing. 10 minutes later. Full bottle purchase. Smoky. Sticky. Resin. Vanilla. Perfect.
After reading a lot of reviews, I decided to purchase Ambre Loup. What sticks out is the subtle sweetness and the burning spices & woods. The fragrance is blended very well. I'm ooking forward to wearing this in the colder winter months. Im actually considering making a second purchase. A blind buy success!
Dark, sweet resinous amber. It opens with a scary oudy note, that reads a little bit faecalis but that goes away in less than 5 minutes. After that you get a multilayered scent, that feels sweet, woody, spicy and very resinous. The drydown is very good. A must try for any amber lover. I would layer this with a dark fancy vanilla like Perry Montecarlo Vanille de Tahite. Glorious!
Dense, rich, chewy, and spicy amber. The subtle sweetness and definite woodiness makes this feel like the memories around a fireplace. Never been much of an amber-centric enjoyer, but this may have converted me to try more in the genre.
Yep, that’s amber all right! Ambre Loup hits with sticky-sweet, rusty-golden labdanum, warming and rich. it then goes even darker, in a toffee or leathered direction. It’s more vanillic in the second hour; a dark, dense vanilla that smells like a hot drink by a crackling fireplace. I wouldn’t have been shocked if you told me there was patchouli in there. The last phase is woody. No detectable oud, but maybe cedar; firm, cozy, sweetened red-brown woods. There was a time when I would have hated a straight-down-the-middle amber scent; now I appreciate it. Ambre Loup is chewy and warming on a cold day. Would it be even better with something to cut the sweetness? Sure, which is why Ambre Sultan (amber + bay leaf) is still the champ in my book, but Ambre Loup is a good thing as is.
My favourite amber that I don't own. I would trade all the ambers in my collection for a bottle of Ambre Loup. Goopy, woody, smokey, sweet, viscous, resinous amber, just perfection. Leans a little masculine in my opinion. Opens with a strong cloud, then quickly sits close to my dry and cold skin, though I think with strategic moisturizing and spraying it could create a wonderful and intimate cloud.
First impression was "What the hell, this is weird", then I tried it again and I really like it, it's nice and masculine, definitely not for everyone but worth smelling and finding out for yourself. Top notes I get very heavy + smoky vanilla extract, then it fades into a subtler, woodsy and balsamic (I think?) vanilla. Smells like camping in a forest almost.
I get all the different wood notes but there's a medicinal quality on top. To me it smells like the air after you have just cut through a piece of wood with a dull blade on circular saw. Not real pleasant. Had pass.
I blindbought this 3 weeks ago, in a 50ml bottle...loved it so much that i ordered a 100ml bottle of it within days. I do have several amazing amber scents, like Byzantine Amber by Bianchi, Grand Soir by MFK, Amber Sky by Ex Nihilo, Ambre Nuit by Dior, to name a few...This one, though, has dethroned them all and is easily the best Amber scent i have in my collection. Definitely a must-have if you love amber. Longevity and sillage are great. I get around 12 hours on skin and days on clothes. You really don't need more than 3-4 sprays to make your presence known...
A rich scent of Peruvian balsam, labdanum, tonka bean, vanilla, and cloves creates a warm winter fragrance. Oud is present here, discreetly.
Trash. No girls like dark or mysterious fragrances 😂. Girls like safe fresh and sweet mass appealing fragrances. I’ll take safe mass appealing generic boring fragrances any day over this crap.
This is the sweet, smoky, crackling, burning leaves perfume I've been dreaming about for years, since I first heard the song "Black No. 1" by Type O Negative: "Little wolf-skin boots and clove cigarettes...her perfume smells like burning leaves." Ambre Loup smells like spiced, clovey, sticky tobacco resin being scraped out of a wolf's head-shaped wooden pipe. I've always loved the smell that bonfire smoke leaves on my clothes. This is a little like that as well, but more delicious and seductive with the vanillic gourmand and warmly furry animalic facets.
