sure, might not be as complex and layered as others from this amazing house. but it is still a marvelous white floral that i cant stop sniffing.
floral, fruity and honey notes pull strong on me with this. I stand alone when I say this, but I love it! Doesn't last the longest, but it's just nice.
Imagine a leather scented hand cream. This is what this is.
Nuit de Cellophane by Serge Lutens was surprisingly a slow burn for me giving that it ultimately is a clean shampoo-type floral. I initially dismissed it and tossed my sample into the 'no' pile; yay, another boring jasmine. My recent revisit was motivated by a recent floral obsession, so certain fragrances that were at one time too floral or too vintage are suddenly all I want to smell. So, why do I like NdC? First, the osmanthus note is probably the most realistic/natural I've smelled. Osmanthus is supposed to be a bright, apricot-y floral, but there is a plasticy suede accord in most fragrances with the note, which, in my opinion, ruins it. NdC does not smell of plastic or cellophane, but there is a hot, freshly-pressed polymer aspect that reminds me to hot hair or fabric. Next, while I agree that NdC is 'basic', it feels elegant enough to cross the line from basic to classic. It could pass for a J'Adore flanker. It makes me think of someone who just got ready for a night out. They took a shower, liberally used the hair dryer and then hot rollered or flat ironed their hair, finished off the hair with a little hair spray, and then, of coursed, spritzed on a little J'Adore before heading out.
Impressions on skin. Perhaps I don’t have much to say about this fragrance, as to my nose the entire composition revolves around a single image - the skin of apricot. It is the most prominent facet throughout, softly surrounded by delicate floral nuances. To me, it shares a certain resemblance to Fleur du Mal by Dries Van Noten. However, Nuit de Cellophane feels much airier, more transparent, and noticeably more floral. While Fleur du Mal comes across as denser and richer, Serge Lutens’ creation wraps you in an almost weightless veil. A very pleasant, approachable, and easy-to-wear fragrance. My bottle is from the 2023 production.
These green notes are the ones I mean when I say I don’t like green notes.
I’ve smelled a few SL scents, all so beautiful and different than my usual scents. This one was a lot fruitier than the SL I’m used to! I don’t think I’d guess this was part of their collection, by the ones I’ve smelled previously. This also isn’t as strong. It’s a light, pretty fruity scent. I get a light orange, and other light fruity & floral notes. It’s still not a freshly. It’s slightly deeper than that. It’s almost like a deep floral is on its way to being a freshly, but honey is deepening it still.
As other reviews say: generic hairspray. Not memorable at all. Synthetic and boring and doesn't have much longevity.
Starts off as bright, juicy, fresh, white floral, almost bubble gummy, nice but nothing special and definitely not with SL usual depth and blending. Within an hour it starts smelling like an old fashion hair salon, in a good way. Wears off quick. Not offensive but not special either
very generic, feminine, floral freshie for warm weather. Nothing particularly interesting going on here. To my nose, not unisex at all—leans heavily feminine and feels overloaded with white florals. 3/10
@RottigrlNYC I hundred percent agree. I’m a collector with over 2000 bottles and I’ve been scammed by fake perfumes way too many times than I want to remember. And eBay never is trusting the buyer’s word. I’ve lost thousands (it’s not a typo-thousands) on bottles that are filled with water while the bottle is completely original. The most deceptive ones I’m sorry to say were bought from Russia (no offense- except the ones that did scam me, ok?) All I can say is may bad karma finds them. As for eBay, they just take advantage of being a big selling market.
This is the smell of when a girl with freshly washed still wet hair walks by you, breezy and a little aquatic but also juicy, fruity floral. The dry down on my skin smells like hairspray… which kind of puts me off. Sadly, on my skin I can only really smell it for around 1.5 hours… have yet to test it on clothes. 6/10
I find it too sweet. The floral and fruit notes feel almost inebriating to me. I don’t think it smells like shampoo or shower gel. I’d like to layer it with something woody or leathery. Let’s see… Update: 1) I layered it with a dry leather scent, and that worked out well for a impactful night out. 2) However, I have also tried wearing it pure but with less sprays and underneath the clothes, which I loved, because I feel like it hided the “too sweet” aspect of it, and felt way more clean and office friendly. 3) Final edit: okay, I finally got its complexity. Just wear this on a hot and humid day and you will get most interesting fuzzy, textured, avant-garde, chic interpretation of florals. The same happened with Fleurs dOranger. If you give to these “simple” SL scents enough time and heat, they bloom to their complexity. They are just hiding their weirdness behind a thick layer of prettiness
Really bright, uplifting floral notes, fruitiness and sweetness very well balanced but on my skin its kinda old smelling which is a shame
This made me feel positively nauseous it smelt so bad. It smells like really cheap plastic and bubble gum combined. Can't imagine anyone would actually want to smell like this. Unfortunately, like so many awful perfumes, it lasted for ever and the sillage was imense. Luckily I hadn't bought it and had the benefit of a sample prior to purchase otherwise I would have been demanding a refund.
Smells like sitting on a plastic couch at the hair salon
Be careful of buying any Serge Lutens bottles from eBay . The bottles are not sealed and can be tampered with. I purchased a few from 5 star sellers and they had no scent. One had a very faint smell that was gone in a few minutes. There are millions of scammers on eBay. I’ve been buying on eBay since 2001, and I’ve seen it get much worse over the years. eBay also makes it impossible to return perfumes due to safety reasons . They make you prove it’s fake. If you’re buying a cheap sample, they’ll accept a return but an expensive bottle they will give you a very hard time. But it goes both ways, I’ve sold on Mercari and scammer buyers will buy an expensive perfume, empty it and return water in bottle. Or they will empty the perfume into another bottle and break the original bottle and claim it was damaged in mail. Scammers are despicable. They’re hurting small business. Anyway I just wanted to come here and share this. As for me I would never buy any perfume on eBay, unless it’s a sealed official brand sample. I also make sure to be very familiar with the scent beforehand .
Very soapy/shampoo-y white floral musk. The white florals in question must be some kind of amalgamation of flowers but it's definitely not the osmanthus it claims to be. There is some kind of orange citrus but it's more like the smell left on your fingers after you've peeled the skin and then washed your hands with soap. My RMT office uses a laundry detergent for their sheets that smells exactly like this.
Fruity and floral. The scent profile which most of general shampoo and shower gel utilize. Very likeable with no twist, not what I expect from this house but still nice.
shampoo and cellophane
Only reviewer with this as their sig scent was right on when they said it smells like someone gave you flowers and an orange and told you to have a nice day. Maybe also a balloon. Could have also been called Serge Lutens Utopia.
Soft jasmine mixed with juicy orange. Very pretty to smell. The fruit isn’t overwhelming or unusually sweet. The perfume has a designer fragrance like quality, and I’ve found the scent doesn’t evolve across the length of wear.
Rochefoucauld once wrote "Most people would not fall in love if they had never heard of it." To this I will add, with regard to Nuit de Cellophane: "Nobody would imagine the flowers wrapped in plastic if they had not first been told the name." In truth, Nuit de C. is a richly narcotic floral-dominant aquatic scent. A quite well-balanced aquatic, I might add, never descending into either melon rind or watered down dilution. I suspect this green aquatic aspect is what has been labelled 'cellophane'. The actual flowers in question are up for debate. I was actually shocked to not see ylang-ylang listed on the pyramid. There must be some, even though it has been kept anonymous. Jasmine, lily, and osmanthus might approach something similar, ...except I know what osmanthus really smells like. I think many perfumers like the idea of osmanthus but don't want to approach the overripe, half-fermented truth of it. Regardless, Nuit de Cellophane remainss a deliciously full-bodied floral indulgence. Recommended. ...and if you were afraid the flowers might be somehow muted behind a conceptual sheet of clear plastic, Don't worry, ...there is no plastic!
I'm a dude, so I don't have a ton of experience with white floral fragrances, or floral in general. But immediately to mind came slight comparisons to CK One and Amber Cologne by Bornikoff. On skin Cellophane isn't quite as feminine as it seemed on test blotter, but I still rated it 'more feminine'. A man could get by with this, just as a man could wear the purposefully unisex CK One, and I do. Cellophane is maybe a bit more fem-leaning, but there is a similar fresh soapiness that comes across as bit Cologne-like. Fruity notes aren't very prominent after the opening, except the orange, which persists strongly, so I'd probably demote the listed accord of 'fruity notes' a bit while promoting the 'citrus' accord a bit up the stack. Honey is subdued, providing a mere smooth and sweet background hum. Its not bad but I'd prefer CK One.
I'm making a lot of discoveries today after resmelling old samples. Come to find out, I really enjoy this. Not quite sure why I didn't vibe with her to begin with. It's a little green, a little fruity, and floral. To me, that's a very nice balance and right up my alley. The fruitiness and sweetness is not overpowering, but it's just right 9/10

You know the phrase “a face only a mother could love”? This. Olfactorily, that phrase applies to Cellophane. It is supposed to be osmanthus as one would experience it behind a layer of cellophane. Instead it is a starkly soapy and sharp white floral musk abomination that smells like your-pick-of-a shampoo marketed to teenage girls. Touches of mild orange, apricot, peaches, and guava are there - aka the fruity side of osmanthus, and there is a bit of pink rose - aka the floral side, and a bit of animalics - aka the leathery side, but they are all shoved into a split second between the top and the heart, crowded into being meek voices. They exist only for a few brief interesting moments before they are sliced into imperceptible ribbons by razor-blade-sharp shards of white floral soap musks. I don’t know what happened here. It was an intriguing brief, and I think we were all excited to see what Lutens did with osmanthus, a lovely floral chameleon. But, perhaps he wasn’t excited. Perhaps this is a big middle finger to the people who demanded an osmanthus perfume from him when the osmanthus craze was at its peak. I don’t know why else he would put his name on something so crude and crass.
My mum's signature scent has always been J'adore Dior. I picked up Nuit de Cellophane from El Corte Ingles in Barcelona on a trip with some friends after having taken a fancy to it and thinking it smelled like something familiar. Turns out it smells exactly like my mum when she wears J'adore Dior. It's a delicate scent with to be honest, for the price point, pretty poor longevity... but I still love it and reach out for it on special occasions where I feel like a more polite scent is needed. It's best described as a sweet floral musk with a slight creaminess to it. Almost smells like a luxury body moisturiser. I think the name is fitting for something which feels like a thin veil of scent, delicate and works perfectly on a humid summer night.
Bought Fille De Berlin on Ebay, but the doe doe bird seller sent me this (new school bottle with the vampire font) instead. Reminded me of this woman who I want to forget. All she wore was J'Adore, and this smelled exactly like that to me at the time. Which is funny because the official ad says this was meant to evoke specific memories. Anyways, put it back online to resell it and put the money towards Un Bois Vanille. Still enjoyed sniffing it from the bottle here and there. But idk I wasn't really impressed. How foolish. It is no longer for sale. This is criminally underrated. Then again I can't see you people nowadays understanding it. It's so beautiful, it has so much depth, it's so creative and yet still a little bit (or maybe a lot bit) dark. It takes time to unlock and understand, because at first glance it isn't mindblowing. It smells kind of retro with some modern touches in there. I heard when you used to buy perfume the stores would let you sit there for like an hour and drink tea and chill before you bought it. This perfume needs that kind of introduction. The more you smell it the better it gets. Reminds me a tad bit of Profundis but that one swirls while this sparkles. I love the way the citrus and honey are utilized. Everyone wants Serge to make only obscure thick dark fragrances, but here he shows he can also make stunningly beautiful fragrances too. Any syntheticness only adds to the allure. I haven't tried it in the hottest weather (which I don't think it would work in) but it's great on your average hot day, very vitalizing. A top 5 Serge fragrance for me, but I have only tried like 20. Leans slightly feminine. I guess I wish it were a tiny bit stronger but otherwise I think it's stunning and perfect perfumery.
I tried a sample and I wouldn’t say it’s a bad scent, maybe just boring..? I hate saying that, but I’ve tried/owned many other Serge Lutens and have really enjoyed how complex and interesting they are. This just doesn’t seem to fit. It has a very designer, “perfumy” scent. Which, again, isn’t bad. Just not what I’ve come to expect from this house. I will say, it’s a nice, floral perfume that’s great for spring/summer and easy to wear. It’s not offensive or overpowering. If you’re a beginner when it comes to niche perfumery or just want something that’s decidedly feminine and a bit of a “dumb reach”, this would be perfect.
