Eau du Soir

I would swear Eau du Soir has massive aromatherapeutic properties due to the spicy pepper, bracing citrus, and fresh juniper, though it takes some adjusting. You know those fragrances you quickly become nauseated by and relegate to a drawer or box for months or years? Well, EdS is the exact opposite. At first, I needed to layer it with a sweeter, more powdery fragrance to make it tolerable. Now I like it straight and find it far too refreshing ever to become cloying. I was first attracted to Eau du Soir because I love cold, sharp, austere fragrances like Cristalle, and it's an intriguing, somewhat similar, legendary green floral chypre. As a bonus, it is non-toxic (as reported on ewg.org), and the brand does not specifically support Israel. I heard someone describe it as glamping or wearing heels in a pine forest, and I thought I'd adore it from that depiction. They weren't wrong, though I'd argue the reason might be that it at first bears a bit of a resemblance to Deep Woods Off. As crazy as it is, that is exactly what I like about it. It reminds me of childhood camping trips and Fourth of July picnics. In Eau du Soir, the moss is darker, more herbaceous, and more mossy than Cristalle; this is partly due to the addition of patchouli and labdanum, which makes it “difficult.” However, it's also part of what gives it the pine forest aspect & I now love them equally. Cristalle is fabulous for days and summers, and Eau de Soir is the most gorgeous nighttime and winter equivalent for those occasions my brain needs a cold, piercing wake-up call.

This is such a weird smell, I don't know if I should hate it or love it. In the beginning, it is clearly very masculine, sharp and spicy, the pepper is very dominant. Later it becomes a bit softer but still weird. I do like unusual scents, but this one is definitely not for me.

This fragrance is the epitome of a chypre. Upon first spray I got "men's citrusy, fresh spicy cologne". It came across very masculine. I was confused as to how this was a women's perfume and after about 5 minutes decided it was not for me. A little while later, I got wafts of sweet, powdery notes peeking through. If I thought I was confused upon initial spray, I was now even more confused, like someone was playing a bad joke on me. I was already in "hate" mode (hate on me, but might be fantabulous on someone else), and yet here I was, feeling somewhat like a stunned mullet reveling in these gorgeous sweet, powdery notes asking myself "do I really hate it? Or do I really love it?" It's just such a polarizing fragrance that made me feel so bipolar (no offence to anyone who is bipolar). I'd get a waft of citrusy, fresh spicy, earthy cologne, then the soft, sweet, powdery florals, then the cologne, then the florals. There was a degree of inner turmoil where I went "hate, love, hate, love" and therein as you can see, lies my dilemma LOL. I am fully aware that Eau du Soir is not considered experimental by any stretch of the imagination, but it feels very avant-garde to me. The juxtaposition of the citrusy, spicy, earthy notes against the sweeter, powdery floral notes creates quite a stark contrast. It is dark and light, fire and ice, and chaos and order, all captured in a single, captivating composition. Sia's video clip of her song 🎵Chandelier🎵 perfectly demonstrates the contrasting emotions I felt when wearing this perfume. From a lyrical perspective, and given my tumultuous relationship with Eau du Soir, I am left questioning: 🎵Now, I need to know, is this real love, or some kind of madness keeping us afloat?🎵 as Muse so aptly put it. Their song is sonically avant-garde, while Sia's song is visually avant-garde fitting perfectly (in my opinion) with this fragrance. Eau du Soir is neither office safe, nor blind buy safe. I definitely recommend trying it first in a shop or sourcing a decant. The only other fragrance I have tried that I feel is as polarizing as this, is Tiziana Terenzi's Maremma as that also contrasts earthy patchouli with sweet, powdery notes. As an aside, Mitsuoko is also a chypre but it is much smoother than EDS and Maremma. The latter two contrast sharp with soft in a much less harmonious way, at least for the first few hours. EDS has fairly good longevity, I could still smell it around 8hrs later. For others like myself who are not huge into chypres or are less familiar with them, be warned, you may not know whether you need a lesson in savoir-faire or a session with a shrink afterwards 😂😂

this is a magnificent and dramatic Chypre Perfume. remembering how it made a huge impression on me in 1990 as such, that I immediately bought a full flacon. only later you fully understand the true impact that this perfume had on 'my being'. it's Classicism and Drama enamoured me on the spot, but the details come later. the Chypre Initiation is deep and lasting and it is not for nothing the Oakmoss scored that high. Juniper (also blatantly present and for me, been born in the World Capitol of 'Jenever', Gin, Geniévre, Schiedam in the Netherlands, next to Rotterdam) it is a deerly beloved note in perfume. then still the perfume has this (I would almost say 'Pastorality', Meadowness) vegetal, botanic start which just charms me because you also feel it's gonna be a dramatic Lady... the Patchouli, Pepper and Labdanum give the Chypre its friskness (crispness) and also a transcendence to the ambery nature of the perfume. it is strange but fruits, and especially citruses and apple, do go entirely alongside me, as in never smelling them. with the exceptions of Plum, Peach, Apricot. I have smelled Bergamot and various citruses in Colognes but these are so not my cup of tea. only in Versaces Eros Pour Femme I can smell an eternal lemon and its Lemonblossom. the feminine perfumes need to be vile, viscious, witchy (1980s Decade) and if they skip these dimensions they need to be hautain, 'avec des Affaires', condescending, exclusivist. all what my political past as the extremest leftwing communist raised being, loathed. but it is then only my perfumes which do that 'thang'. and Haute and High Eau du Soir is. then, after the unforgettable chypric Opening Waltz the Flowers come in and these are always the main players for me. Rose, Carnation (only this combination does it for me), Syringa, Jasmine, Ylang, L.o.t.V., Labdanum all take care for the Flowery Intoxication. this is a Chic Lady which somehow embodies the lady to me that houses in me too, the gay half of a Twin with my straight Bro. what a story and I already had a review but I thought to emphasize this exquise Flowery Chypre once again because it is a truly Masterfully Dream of a Perfume.

This one smells like Aqua Di Gio Parfume Armani 2024. If you dont beleive me, just try it. The dry down is very similar. Parfume is more mens thens womens, you can see the notes also.

Beautiful, timeless, transcendent, classic chypre.

I love this! The solid oakmoss base combined with a zesty citrus/juniper uplift truly gives a sense of timeless class. It even transcends the question of masculine vs feminine leaning. It's not a modern chypre, and neither does it give off a vintage feel. Truly timeless. Try this if you like l'Air du Temps but you want to dial down remembering your dear old grandmother (may she rest in peace) a little bit.

I have a sample of it, the opening feels more unisex than I usually go for, but after that it leaves a wonderful sweetness in the back of my throat, sort of like honey (the real stuff) Very mature though, so not what I would personally go for outside of special occasions

Trying a vintage miniature (assuming parfum). I don't get any citrus from the opening but instead get a beautiful and very elegant woody mossy iris, with carnation in the background. None of the aftershave type scent that I feared, but in my opinion very feminine in a quietly elegant way - very subtle in its beauty. This will be amazing in autumn as the patchouli creates a lovely autumn leaf type note.

Tried a vintage, first blast was interesting with a bit of pepper but then it just turned to grapefruit. It's intentsely grapefruit like a aftershave type cologne. I get some oakmoss, maybe woodiness.

I have it in my collection, gorgeous bottle. Great fragrance, def different on everyone's skin. I would not purchase purposely, but i love the one i have so much !

There are fragrances that feel like products. And there are others that feel like stories and encounters. Eau du Soir is a story of its kind, a dusk-lit masterpiece. As it settles, it drifts into a deep, mossy base of oak-moss. The true soul of Eau du Soir reveals later. It is in the resinous presence of amber, the intimacy of musk, the dark depth of patchouli and oak-moss, giving it its signature timeless character. These notes don’t simply settle; they take root. They turn the fragrance into very enigmatic, quietly magnetic— like a portrait in a museum or a gallery, whose eyes follows you long after you’ve turned away. A perfume for people who like their elegance. A scent that wears you as much as you wear it.

This scent was recommended as having a similar carriage to Safari. It’s true: both conjure the lady in a thick gold chain necklace and crisp white button down. It’s fresher and woodier than Safari, more citrus. I enjoy it but at least my decant doesn’t have a ton of staying power (compared to say, Soir de Lune or even Safari itself, if you can get your hands on it). Two firm sprays take me about halfway through the day. As such, for me, while I enjoy becoming the elegant Countess for (half) a day, I need better longevity to consider a full bottle. The scent itself is gorgeous and really a must try.

The bottle is incredibly beautiful and that's one thing I like about it. You have to choose Estée Lauder Knowing EDP instead of eau du soir and the best cheap alternative and it's much better value. I don't understand the hype. I don't like it at all.

If Clinique Wrappings, Anne Klein Blazer and Rose de Cardin were mixed in a vat you would end up with Eau de Soir. Very lovely but also very expensive for such poor projection.

I own a store. Recently I thought we had a mold problem, which is literally impossible considering how much we stand on hygene. I realized today that the smell of mold came from my customer so I asked what perfume she was wearing so I could write this comment and warn you lol. Yes, some people will love this, but a loooot of people will think you smell like mold. So I ask you, kindly, is it really worth paying $100 for????

stopped by Bloomingdale's after going to the gym and eating a burger, looking for a fresh, energizing gym scent, and I vaguely remember hearing that Sisley has one. I then smelled through some Le Labo, Chanel, and Byredo - and Eau du Soir is 1 of 2 fragrances today, that I absolutely loved and cannot stop smelling, but are not "gym" fragrances. I sprayed this on with zero context, but I don't think anyone smelling this on me would think it was femme. I get a burst of bitter and bright citrus moving into energizing flowers - the thing that makes this so distinct must be the Syringa - but also rose and carnation and lilies and ylang ylang and oak moss and a bunch of other gorgeous flowers, dare I say some sort of ghostly fruit (white peach, dragon fruit, asian pear) then patchouli and fjordian wood, a powder puff was waved around the air, but only enough so nothing stands out more than another. is that what a chypre makes? count me a fan of this one. it is an unnecessary amount of ingredients incredibly blended so it creates a symphony of strength and stamina that makes me feel like I own 95% of this gym. power from a mysterious source like the garden of eden.

A fragrance that is on the border between feminine and masculine creations I think most of people that are above 30 would appreciate it It is definitely classical offering that mixes soapiness and chypre notes Performance is ok I think in the past it would been a better fragrance with the real oakmoss in the mix This seemed a little bland but with a good opening Not sure if I love it but it’s a good wear every now and then

This feels well made and i love the bottle, but this just doesnt feel like something thats wearable at all, it smells more like a spa room and in a way where thats the only context id really like to smell this in. Doesnt smell as multi dimensional as the notes would suggest either, something i cant quite put my finger on dominates in the mix and its something i just dont really see anyone wanting to wear on themselves. i got into fragrance by loving the vintage stuff, but to me this smells dated in a bad way, the blend of it feels completely modern and theres not a use of vintage aromachemicals or anything like that, but this feels like it would mostly appeal to the sensibilities of people from a long time ago… i used this for a while as a bathroom freshener, because again it has some nice spa like quality to it, but even then i tired of it quickly..

I’m truly in love with Eau du Soir by Sisley. Since Sisley has always been a favorite of mine for skincare, I thought why not try their perfumes? My first was Soir de Lune, a blind buy based on trust in the brand and reviews. Though well-made, its earthy and mossy profile didn’t suit my taste. Still, I gave Eau du Soir a chance, and it blew me away. It’s hands down the most elegant woody fragrance I’ve encountered, with luxurious citrus, fresh spice, moss, and floral notes woven seamlessly. It smells expensive, sophisticated, and powerful. The sillage and longevity are strong, and I’ll never forget when my mom smelled it on me and instantly said, “You smell like luxury Parisienne hotels.” She had no idea what I was wearing just pure instinct. This fragrance is stunning. Scent: 2/2 Longevity: 1.6/2 Sillage: 1.5/2 Packaging: 1.5/2 Price: 1.3/2 ——— Total: 7.9/10

Oh, this is incredibly interesting. I need some more time to form my full opinion on this. I was inclined to dislike this upon the first spray. However, the longer I wait, the more this does appeal to me. It reminded me of my grandmother at first, which initially made me go negative towards this. However, now that I have waited a bit longer, I can see this as incredibly sophisticated. I think this is a scent I would reach for when I am in need of some additional confidence, when I want to come across as strong and powerful and sure of myself. That is definitely what this radiates so far for me. It is very assertive and a strong chypre, but there is also a lot of cleanliness in this fragrance. It feels put together: This is a person in high heels, with a very neatly ironed shirt, who has their stuff very well together. Definitely a night scent, I think. It's beautiful in the way a very good, specific wine might taste slightly sour or overwhelming at first, and needs to sit for a bit before the true beauty comes out. I'd love to try and wear this very subtly on a date one day.

You've gotta love it! Eau de Soir has character that's for sure. It's everything people say in these comments. If you like a no nonsense, slightly old school, soapy, lemony, raspy, citric/floral chypre this is for you. You'd best be the kind of woman to whom assertiveness comes naturally, not aggressive, just quite naturally high status. Maybe that's how you want to be, if so this perfume is your friend. It reminds me of a pared-back French chateau in early spring. It's still chilly, but uplifting and bright. The owner is a former model. She's sick of the glamorous life now, and has come to retire in this medieval stone castle. She's stripped back all the frou frou 1980's decor and now it's just ancient worn carpets, oak furniture and lime-rendered walls - plain and timeless. Enjoy!

If you're wearing this in cold weather, then you're doing it all wrong, and that might explain some of the polarizing opinions. This fragrance was made for warm climates or warm days where the fragrance can bloom and be carried on balmy winds. It's very clean and "fresh" in the classic chypre sense rather than the white "fresh cotton" laundry musk manner that many have become used to associating with "clean" today. Again, it wears well in the hottest and most humid weather. It stands up to the southern tropical heat of the summers in my city without depending upon the typical, at times, bland citrus aquatic white musk composition that is trotted out in most hot weather seasons.

The bottle looks interesting, but the scent is a mix between an elder person and cleaning supplies? I don't like it much and I honestly prefer using it as an insect repellent spray, to get rid of spiders or what not :/

To me it smells like death, decay, conservadorism, arrogance and sadness. It is also an allergy, headache inducer. NO!

Complex, masterfully constructed, and free of any sweetness, this scent is austere yet deeply compelling. A true blessing for those who seek a cold, serious chypre. All time favorite. The kind of fragrance that reminds me of my Mother, my childhood, an elegant woman, confident, with class. Strong fragrance, with personality, an Orient touch, full of History. Love it. I love parfums and am always curious for new launches, but always end up coming back to this one from time to time. I had friends who asked me which fragrance was it, both women and men, and complimented it.
