It was my favorite Tom Ford on blotter. Several times I checked it and constantly liked. However, it was finally its turn to be tried out on skin. Alas, there's nothing remarkable or interesting left about it. The bright beginning didn't appear and then it’s just an ordinary, dry wood. Yes, it might be interesting in some circumstances, but nothing more. Intimate-moderate sillage. NOT for buying without skin test.

I was expecting something louder, more edgy, based on the reviews. I mean, it is a pleasant smoky-woody fragrance. For this price, I'd expect to have something so special, complex, tons of character and drama that I'd faint. Occasionally smells like dills too. Perfectly unisex, soz.

This is a MASTERPIECE i love all the complexity, the masculinity and the clear strong statement. I wore this at a funeral and it was very spiritual and in line with the surroundings! Love it.

The batch is A5223058 and the ingredients code is ILN49398. I have 3 sprays from a decant in my elbow crease. Smell wise, first thing I thought of was Nasomatto Pardon. It’s got incense, resins and very dry woods. After abit, the Bentley absolute style smell comes up. It gets slightly less Smokey and moves even more towards the dry woody smell. I can get some similarities to Gucci Intense Oud too in the further dry down. Really like this scent profile. I do find an issue with this scent on my skin tho. Wasn’t even that long since I sprayed it but I did not get any projection. It’s sitting closer to my skin with a light silage. Longevity is on the moderate to long lasting range too. Kinda interesting cause the scents I’ve compared it with are all known for their performances being really good. But another way to look at it is that those are harder to wear cause of their performance and this brings that dna to a more useable level. Overall, it’s definitely a really nice different and complex scent profile. Easily recommended for anyone who loves dry woody scents. If you’re worried about performance, I do see some commenters mentioning they get good performance from it and the smell is also not mass pleasing so just make sure to sample first.

Why does it feel like almost every new release from this house is a trip back to the Gucci pour Homme well? I suppose, firstly, because it was a brilliant perfume, and secondly because it’s a base that slots so effortlessly into building a woody, incense-forward fragrance. But I digress. You’d think I was throwing shade. I’m not. In fact, this might be one of my favourite Tom Fords. Wearing it feels meditative. What it manages to do well - and what so many others somehow get wrong - is simply not be annoying. I don’t know what it is, but that whole smoke-over-wood thing, with the resinous, ambery base that feels so familiar, usually starts to grind my gears after a few hours. Here though, it just hums along in the background, occasionally pushing out little wafts of soapy smoke and faint floral bursts that never seem to wear thin. If you dig this kind of DNA, this is one of the best in class.

There is an expectation here of something calm but commanding, less about immediate impact and more about the slow unfolding of tone and texture. Let’s step into the smoke and see how this composition reveals itself once it meets the skin. Opening: The opening is balsamic, smoky, and woody. The primary notes I get are resins, incense, palo santo, and ebony wood, with the resins and incense leading. The resins immediately set the tone with a warm, ambery glow that feels balsamic rather than sweet, creating a rich and enveloping foundation. The incense rises alongside it with a dense, steady smokiness that reads clearly as burning incense, full and present without becoming harsh or acrid, likely reinforced by the darker edge of cade oil. The palo santo adds another layer of smoke, but in a softer, creamier way, introducing a smooth woodiness that feels very true to the material itself. Lastly, the ebony wood anchors everything with a deep, dark wood accord that carries a slightly inky character, giving the opening both weight and structure. In the background, subtle details begin to emerge, with papyrus adding a dry, papery texture, violet leaf contributing a faint metallic edge, leather bringing a touch of animalic depth, and black pepper introducing a gentle, nose-tingling spice. The result is an exceptionally well blended opening where nearly every note plays a role, creating a cohesive and immersive composition built on layers of smoke, wood, and resin. Dry Down: The dry down is still smoky, woody, and balsamic. The primary notes I get are incense, resins, palo santo, and ebony wood, with the incense and resins continuing to lead. The overall structure remains fairly linear, but there is a noticeable shift in balance as the fragrance settles. The incense moves more to the forefront, bringing a deeper, more pronounced smokiness, while the resins sit just behind it, maintaining that warm, glowing, ambery quality. The palo santo continues to provide its smooth, creamy woodiness with a gentle smoke running through it, and the ebony wood holds steady as a dark, dense backbone with that slightly inky character. The darker, more charred smokiness from the cade oil remains present, adding weight and depth, while the subtle animalic undertones from the leather continue to give the composition a touch of texture. What changes most is the supporting cast, as the dry, papery nuances from the papyrus, the metallic edge from the violet leaf, and the spice from the black pepper begin to fade. It continues to wear steadily until around the ten to eleven hour mark, where it transitions into a skin scent. Overall, this delivers strong, long-lasting performance with a particularly impressive sillage early on. When to Wear: Ebene Fumé naturally finds its place in fall and winter, where its dense smoke and layered woods feel more in sync with the cooler environment rather than overwhelming it. Blind Buy: Ebene Fumé is not a safe blind buy. This is a bold, smoke-forward fragrance that is clearly geared toward those who already have an appreciation for incense, resins, and heavily atmospheric compositions. It is not often that I spend time with a fragrance built around true incense and wood smoke, and even less often that one of them genuinely connects with me. Ebene Fumé managed to do exactly that. From start to finish, the smoke remains the defining thread, but it never feels harsh or overwhelming for the sake of it. Instead, it is carefully shaped and supported by warm balsamic resins and deep, textured woods, creating something that feels cohesive and intentional rather than abrasive. Ébène Fumé by Tom Ford is one of the most evocative and spiritual creations in the Private Blend collection. It is not just a perfume, but a real sensorial experience that plays on the contrast between the sacred and the profane. A Purifying Ritual: The beginning is dominated by Palo Santo and Incense. Don't expect the classic cold and liturgical "church" incense; here it is warm, woody and almost crackling. Black pepper adds a burst of energy, while violet leaf (often overlooked in this pyramid) adds a green, metallic touch that keeps the fragrance from becoming too heavy right away. As the fragrance warms on the skin, the "stronger" soul emerges. Cade oil and leather create an accord reminiscent of burnt wood or the smoke of a luxury fireplace. It is here that Rodrigo Flores-Roux demonstrates his talent: rose and labdanum act as mediators, softening the sharp edges of papyrus and leather, making the composition velvety and incredibly elegant. The drydown is the most persistent and reassuring part. Ebony and guaiac wood give a solid and dark, almost "black" structure. The resins seal everything with a dense, amber sweetness that remains on the skin for hours. It doesn't "scream" like other fragrances, but creates a magnetic aura around the wearer. If you love fragrances like Santalum or dry woodies, Ébène Fumé is a masterpiece. However, it is not a safe purchase because the "burnt wood" scent can be polarizing. Personally, it reminds me a lot of Emilio Schuberth's Schu.

This one went strange on me. The dominant note is by far the violet for hours, overpowering everything else on a lightly smoky base. Performance is really weak/soft. Next to no projection, can't smell it unless I get right up in it. Which is a shame. Had high hopes here but it just didn't pan out. It's a green almost violet leaf forward skin scent on me.

This is by far the best woody scent fragrance I own. The sweet and wood combo is a great pleaser and this fragrance is potent. I recommend buying the gift set so you can get a 10ml travel size to go along with it for relatively cheap.

OOh deliciousness ! Lovely fragrance. Rose and Violet are absolutely hidden in the background and the rest is indulgent smoke. So perfect ! Elegant, full of personality, well balanced, superbe taste. Wear this and it will open doors for you. Seductive unisex. Very smokey. More smokey then you envision. Sure the price, but one of the best of this collection!

Way smoother and more synthetic than real world 'smoked ebony' would ever really be, but maybe that silky diplomacy (or: industrial corporate retuning, take your pick) is what makes it work as a genuine upscale unisex and a marketable product. Which is what TFs these days are all about, let's be frank. More prickly black pepper than an entire footlong old-school Italian trattoria grinder at first burst; the resin element is probably ersatz but is nicely-tooled enough to fool your nose into believing that frankincense, myrrh and maybe tolu are there (they probably aren't, but I guess that's a commercial trade secret); any smokiness a sort of sense-impression rather than a definite presence. Some may feel it skews male but any female lover of the dark-woody-spicy triad will easily get on well with it. The most intriguing bit is that although (again) it seems likely to be a chemical trick, the aura of ebony is most definitely there - bringing back very happy memories of its awesome thunking impact in Lubin Idole - and to my nose that can't ever, ever be bad. (Even though I've got some sneaking suspicion that here, it might really be conjured by something cheaper and more clove-based). While perceptibly dark, it's not remotely acrid or bitter; a really fine balance between smokiness and sweetness. I've worked with real ebony wood while crafting (so costly! so incredibly heavy! so damn hard to make a mark on!) and this genuinely does evoke the smell of its sawdust and the unique sense of true hardwood luxury. Initially aggressive sillage dies back within an hour to a manageable but durable personal armour (still detectable a hand's span from skin) for a very respectable 12-14h. So: it might well be very synthetic and it might well be a little cynical, somehow - but all the same, it's tough enough to make its business case hit home and sell you on it. For me personally, a very very VERY strong like, but not quite a love - for my lurking suspicions of its motives, and for the fact that Lubin Idole has my own dark, hardwood heart forever in this genre. Still don't regret picking up a 50ml at under RRP and wear it with great pleasure for the days when Idole's rum-booziness isn't apt.

Smells remarkably like BBQ sauce on me on first spray but then it quickly dies down to a woody musk with a hint of hickory smoke and incense. I got gifted mine from someone who worked at one of NZ's last department stores that recently folded. Sadly it is an end of an era for many retailers here and I was lucky to get several 2ml sprayers from the store closure. I wouldn't buy it myself as it is too expensive for what it is and I am an unemployed chronically ill artist. It is incredibly similar to Eilish 2 but it has a little more going on with the labdanum. I wish this note was a bit stronger. I get no leather but that's fine with me being a vegan taxidermists daughter 🤪

I made a trip to Nordstrom to test out this scent. I was extremely surprised at how much I loved it. The incense, wood, smoke, sweetness all wrapped up in an ethereal feeling of sitting in a church. Now waiting for my bottle to arrive in the mail....Will update once I wear it more. A very complex scent for sure that lasted on my skin until the next day. 2/6/2026 So worth the purchase! Sophisticated in every way....I don't think all Tom Ford parfums are good. This one, is perfection for my nose and senses...

At the beginning a bit spicy, but with time becomes gentler. Great for nigh time wear. The incense very noticeable in the absolutely best way possible. Something I was very surprised by is how sweet it gets. A fruity, fire-y smoke, but in a completely different way that Cherry Smoke. It's probably the most Summery and universal scent from that series of Tom Ford that I have tried. Much more comforting and feminine than I have expected, but still very unisex. I dearly recommend it for a person who enjoys heavier sweetness. Very sensual and alluring, romantic almost

Dark enchanting Ebony, salty and citrusy Palo Santo, romantic and mysterious smokey Incense. Ébène Fumé is the best woodsy fragrance I've laid my nostrils upon. The leather, pepper, and amber, add to this sweet but mature accord I can't keep my nose off of.

i’ll settle with buying a 100 ml of the Eillish No. 2, but just so you know, you’d have to kill me and rip my 10ml of this from my cold dead stiff hands. I just want to bathe in this so fucking badly. On a cold winter day it emerges stoically, and like a ghost of heat. Often times sweet smells trigger this gagging reflex where my jaw clenches, or a smokey smell will trigger a tingle in my nasal turbinates. This is a sweet-smoke, or sweet-fire. My skin radiates warm and the palo santo smell that i already love so much sings out with a longing. It’s kind of the ultimate emotionally dejected scent for me. It so evokes memories of a cold winter morning walking into Easter mass as a 7 year old and smelling pure incense and burning wood. People try to find an authentic “catholic-guilt” smell, there’s tons of fragrances inspired by saints and archbishops and whatnot, what notes truly evoke catholic whateverr-core. But this to me smells like what church was to me. A concept of sanctity and ritual that never really intrigued me, but instead the ambience and atmosphere that captured me of wood carving and steeples and mom and aunt in long embroidered skirts. This is a catholic or religious frankincense and palo santo in kind of an ironic way, like a Mapplethorpian fixation on catholic beads and jewelry. Im honestly going to keep this a secret to myself and just lie to people and say this is some other woody fragrance.

This smells so good but theres no projection. Its still there after 3 hours as a slight skin scent you actually have to huff your arm to smell. Otherwise its a great smelling scent. Its not really smoky either.

This is "The Scent" for me. Gosh i love it so much. Wish i could take a shower with it lol

Probablement ce qui se fait de mieux chez TF actuellement. On est là sur un parfum très boisé et épicé, semblable à un feu de bois. C'est un parfum réconfortant, audacieux, charmant et mystérieux. Il peut très bien se porter de jour, lors de très basses températures, que lors de soirées mondaines ou de dîners. La tenue est très bonne, je le sens personnellement encore après plus de 10 heures. Le sillage est assez important pendant 2-3 heures environ, avant de se rapprocher de plus en plus de la peau au fil du temps. Si vous vous souciez des gens, sachez que je le porte depuis plus d'un an, je vois environ une soixantaine de personnes par jour, et je n'ai eu que des compliments malgré ses saveurs intenses. Est-ce un blind buy ? Absolument pas. Est-ce une pépite ? En tout cas, c'est un coup de coeur olfactif pour ma part.

Compared this with Myrrhe Mystere on separate wrists a few times. Somewhat similar spicy opening to Myrrhe Mystere but the difference is the wood scent and it's clear distinction. People that keep comparing this to Myrrhe Mystere need to get their noses checked. The wood scent here is Palo Santo in the dry down. Since I have a cheap bottle of Cremo Palo Santo I recognized that scent. The spices part is similar to Myrrhe Mystere at the opening but the dry down is so different. Ebene fume, Myrrhe Mystere, and Santal Blush all have the similar spices opening. But Santal Blush and Myrrhe both share a very rugged masculine wood scent, I want to say dirty but I don't know what to call it. These 2 are most similar to each other while Ebene is least. Ebene Fume's wood scent of Palo Santo is a bit smoother and lighter blending with the spices, but that's really the clear distinction between the 3 being the wood part of the scent. Very little projection like Myrrhe Mystere too but Ebene Fume seemed to die off earlier in longevity actually, very weak and does not last long. I went with buying a bottle of Myrrhe Mystere over this. Myrhhe Mystere seemed a bit more masculine and like a warm fireplace woodsy smell. Tough decision they are both really good.
