Plum Japonais

I have a decant of this rather exotic parfume. It is not fruity at all as it's name suggest, but for those who can get to the root of the name Plum Japonais and have actually tasted Umeboshi (jap.), would know what that is. It is photorealistically blended in this representaion with added ingredients to envelop rather astringent and sharp smell of fermented plum japonais. It has the power to cut any immagination upon smelling it, blending masterfull craftmanship with an art.

Every chance I got I went to Nordstrom's or another store to smell this before it was discontinued. WOW this is some superb addicting great stuff. Was a tie between this and Tobacco Oud. Both are sensational. The hype is much deserved, Plum Japonais is a beautiful priceless piece of art. Please bring this one back. The note of Plum does not get much better than this. If anyone has a bottle they want to sell of this, I would love to take if off your hands and add it to my collection of Uber Rare Gems like Myths Man.

Not worth the hype at all. There is absolutely nothing special about this scent profile to justify the resell price. Get this if you want to smell like the Dubai Spice Souk.

This is in my opinion one of the most beautiful fragrances I've ever smelled. I am blessed to have a bottle of this as it is impossible to find. Everything everyone says about this is accurate: Plum, resinous and spicy. It lasts easily 8 hours and smells iconically of the Tom Ford glory days. It's mind boggling why Tom Ford Fragrances does not bring this back. For those who cannot get this fragrance, Insider Parfums Plum Harajuku is 95% identical to this.

Not what I expecting, but wonderful nonetheless. Spicy and resinous woods dominate, while plum hovers in the background. Why was this discontinued?!

a boozy, slightly bitter plum covered in spices and warm woods. it actually smells like umeshu (Japanese plum wine). if shoyedo incense had a plum version, I imagine it would be somewhat similar to this. its rather quiet, mysterious, and seductive. very sophisticated! definitively deserves it's hype. shiseido's feminite du bois lovers will definitely approve this sadly, for my "style" (I dare to claim I have one lol) it was somehow inappropriate, too dark, too "fancy". in 9 years I had it I almost never reached out for it. I would say check CDG floriental or Lutens feminite to see if you like this style, before spending so much money on this. its really good but not for everyone.

Why this perfume got discontinued it beyond me. This is probably one of the most beautiful tom ford creations ever. Its intoxicating, sophisticated and sexy. This is a perfume you wear when you want to leave an impression.

A beautiful mix of amber, plum and spices. No note stands out and all work together perfectly. There is sweetness in the base but its never cloying. One of the best fragrances Tom Ford has released but sadly got discontinued years ago. 9/10

A lot more of an oud perfume than I’d imagined with this one. Not sure if it’s real oud or not but definetly the most realistic oud smell I’ve come across from tom ford. The oud plum mix is almost raisin like to me and for some reason it’s chocolate smelling too. Take the sweetness out of the chocolate though, and mix it with raisins. There’s a slight fuzzy wood note under it that reminds me faintly of vert d’encens. This is definitely a niche style perfume, so I can see why so many people love this. However, I’m not a huge oud fan. I’m on the fence with this one.

I got this in a blind test and was so surprised. This really read an old school vibe barbershop to me. Shaving foam, fresh spices, not the notes listed here at all. I was leaning towrads guessing Old spice....my ladynose is overwhelmed by the sheer masculinity of it all. I'm sure this is a masterpiece, but I think you gents will enjoy this more. I guess I could see the feminite du bois a bit, but it's flooded by the barbershop feel. Vintage, for sure. Might work better with a male skin chemistry as this is not something I would want to smell on someone but maybe on a man this could be lovely.

I managed to get a large 250ml bottle in Belfast . last one , mmmm this is so juicy and masculine , can't believe they have discontinued.

I will never forgive TF for discontinuing this. I'd saved so hard to be able to buy it and when I went to buy a bottle, it had just sold out the last bottle. I have FeB and have thought about trying other ones that are supposed to be "dupes", but I just cannot bring myself to try anything else, because I never got to try the masterpiece. This one hurts.

I got a decant of this just to see what all the fuss was about. Well, it's very good. It's a really nice fragrance. There's nothing off-putting about this. Boozy plum with some resinous/incense qualities at the base. Kind of dark, sweet but not too sweet. Natural smelling too. Great ingredients. Great quality and blending. I think the name also holds true. Really does smell like Plum in a Japanese style. I can kind of see why people say it's unisex. But really, I find this to be feminine leaning for sure. I really see this as a lady's perfume. Although it is not "Girly". Just waned to put that out there in case a man is thinking about pulling the trigger on this. I probably wouldn't, as nice as this is. For a woman maybe. Beautiful fragrance but I don't think it's worth the inflated prices. Was certainly worth it at the retail prices it sold for.

What an absolute masterpiece! I used to wear this in the early 2000s I just opened my delivery of an original Tom Ford Travel spray and wow! Yes it made me sneeze but I loved every minute of it. They truly don’t make perfume like they used to! I feel sorry for those who have never experienced Pre-IFRA perfumery!

Smells like a mix of Feminite du Bois, Benjoin Boheme, and some combination of the following: radishes, beet root, pine needles, and ginger pickled in boozy mulling spices. I also get an earthy, almost cold, freshly-turned earth smell throughout that clashes serendipitously with all the warming spices. It is fruity and spicy, tart and serious. Sexy, intellectual, woodsy-cinnamon stewed plums plus clean, leathery oud and a hint of geranium.

when i first smelt this off a decant a couple years ago it was love at first sniff !!! the fragrance opens with a Japanese plum that is soaked in liquor which gives a beautiful depth to one of my favourite notes in perfumery, then to add. It sprinkles a dash of cinnamon and saffron to give it a beautiful spice then lays the foundation with some oud and vanilla. the only downside to this fragrance, is that it is discontinued and to find it, is damn near impossible. but to conclude this fragrance will always be in my top 10 and its a no brainer for me the best thing i've ever smelt.

@rustymcdangles it’s just Dua. If you look every 4th review they leave is them calling the Dua dupe better to avoid suspicion. They have multiple accounts doing it.

I really don’t get it WHY don’t they re-release it as some of the other fragrances that weren’t even popular in the first place. This is one of the few that needs to be in new bottles collection, think of it like dark purple bottle, similar to the newest Oud voyager

easily the best plum fragrance i have tried. i do have to give the bond one and the serge lutens one a try tho.

I guess my experience with this scent differs from most. On my skin it was faint and with little complexity or depth, not even a whisper of oud really. Had a light, airy, red berry aroma, like fruit tree blossoms. Kind of spritzy, some light musk. Becomes powdery, sweet, and a little creamy. Something like rose or geranium develops but it remains predominantly a light fruity-musk scent on skin. Expensive for what it is, was most likely discontinued for this reason? I suppose it's like a forerunner to the cherry fragrance's Tom Ford has released, but TBH they outperform this. Would suit a younger woman best. Lasts on skin until the next day but the projection wasn't massive for me.

A very interesting take on plum in that the focus seems to be less on plum and more on incense and woods, specifically oud. The top opens with a bang of strong cinnamon and saffron that immediately give way to the fruity and floral plum notes. While you're just about over the spicy opening and reckoning with the fruit in front of you, oud and ambers and vanilla rise to the occasion with defiance and determination. I would never have thought plum would be such a great accent to oud and ambers, but it works extremely well. I don't know why this is called a plum fragrance; as far as I can tell the star is oud. I don't know what this has to do with Japan, but maybe someone with familiarity to the nation and its plums can shed some light on it. Points awarded for execution, most definitely. But no points awarded for originality. We've been-there-done-that many times over with fruity oud perfumes, so I suppose you could say some points should be awarded for using plum - which is novel in its own right - but you could have called this any other fleshy black fruit and I would have easily believed it. If plum were the actual star, and were it of a powerful voice that made itself known and separate from all other fruits among ouds that we've had endless numbers of, maybe I would be more compelled.

Batch - A73(2013) A66(2016) - A18 (2018) Plum Japonais is just perfection in a bottle nothing comes close to this fragrance in this category. This is so unique its deep with the patchouli and oud at the base the immortelle is just so realistic the spices the liquor smell is so deep as well so is the plum is so superbly juicy and realistic as well, this is blended to perfection. This fragrance captures so many emotions in a bottle it's crazy. The fragrance is HEAVY so don't overspray it This one is super unisex can be very sexy on a man/woman. great longevity and projection Yann Vasnier is one of the most talented perfumers out there. absolute 10/10 P.S batches 2018 and above dont smell anything like 2017 and below reformulations killed this masterpiece

They don't make them like this anymore. And the prices (2025) should tell you all you need to know - this is only going to become harder to find, and more expensive as time goes on - unless Tom Ford decides to release it again. I am okay with that, as long as they bring back Japon Noir and Moss Breches as well :) I would trade my high partial bottle for either of those two + add a good chunk of cash on top. An absolute show stealer in the colder weather. The mysterious, dark , resinous quality completely cuts through the air and you will be noticed - don't be that person and overspray this one though! It's definitely Unisex and a confidence booster in liquid form. Plum is such a unique ingredient but it's not the main character here - I find the combination with Plum, Amber and Woods masterful, so smooth in how they blend together - it's a work of art. 9.5/10 If you can get it for a good price, grab it and don't look back. If you don't like it, you will have no trouble selling it on and you might even make some money if you hold onto this for long enough while the demand increases and the supply becomes almost non-existent (that's if Tom Ford doesn't surprise us with a signature line release).
