Going back to the house of Toskovat’, as I like to do every once in a while, for another fragrance with some of the most peculiar notes the house has to offer. Anarchist A_ is inspired by a story about hypocrisy, greed, and a society that has learned to put a price on everything, from love and faith to forgiveness and the promise of a better tomorrow. It paints a bleak picture of a world where we are sold everything we think we want, only to become complicit in the very system we might wish to escape. With that bleak vision of society in mind, I found myself curious to see what kind of olfactory experience Toskovat’ had created to accompany it. The opening of Anarchist A_ is a very interesting blend of what I get as boozy, almost grain-alcohol-like whiskey notes, alongside plastic, paper, and a slightly metallic quality. The plastic effect reminds me of coins or perhaps a ziplock bag, while the paper has something of a dollar bill or fresh printer paper about it. Interestingly, the metallic edge feels much calmer here than it does in Inexcusable Evil, blending into the booziness rather than dominating the composition. It is certainly an unusual combination, but one that has that unmistakable Toskovat’ sense of strangeness. After about 15–20 minutes, the synthetic, boozy opening begins to settle, allowing the paper accord to come forward a little more. I also start to pick up something waxy and linen-like, with an impression of old, dusty clothing. It is a subtle shift, but it gives the fragrance a more worn-in, lived-in character, as though the sharper synthetic elements are slowly giving way to something older and more subdued. After around an hour and a half to two hours, the fragrance dries down further, and the plastic-like quality takes on an almost mineral character. This is where I get more of an impression of decaying church wood, accompanied by a resinous, frankincense-like incense. The overall effect is deep, dry, and almost ancient, very much in line with Toskovat's style. There is also something about it that reminds me of an old closet full of a priest's church suits: dusty fabrics, aged wood, and the lingering presence of incense. It is a peculiar image, admittedly, but one that fits the fragrance surprisingly well. So, once again, we have an interesting offering from Toskovat'. It is a fragrance that is fun to experience, although, as with many of the house's creations, it comes with a certain degree of controversy. Some reviewers have dismissed these unusual notes as ridiculous or little more than a marketing gimmick, and I can understand where that criticism comes from. These are not necessarily literal materials or conventional perfumery notes, after all. If I had to guess, I would imagine that the plastic-like effect comes from some combination of coffee, saffron, and musk, while the church-like atmosphere, with its associations of old priestly garments and sacred spaces, could be achieved through an incense-heavy accord. Of course, that is only my interpretation, but I find that part of the fun with fragrances like this is trying to work out how these impressions are created. Personally, I appreciate the unusual notes and the way they give me a framework through which to interpret the story behind the fragrance. Anarchist A_ is very much a case of what you see is what you get: an unconventional composition with a clear artistic direction that is perhaps more interesting to experience than it is easy to wear. If you enjoy boozy, woody fragrances with a dusty, church-like character, I would not necessarily rule this one out, particularly once it has had time to settle into its dry-down. Ultimately, this is another intriguing fragrance to smell from Toskovat’, and I think it is worth experiencing at least once if you enjoy exploring more unusual perfumery. Wearing it regularly, however, would be a different story. It is not necessarily unpleasant, but it is certainly a challenging wear for me, which, once again, seems to be the recurring theme with this house.

Perhaps someone is kidding me. Is this really a perfume?

Picture this: a priest in a church, with candles burning behind him, he's wearing a sweet, slightly floral perfume. His cassock is made of plastic, it’s really hot outside, and he’s holding a censer billowing with thick incense smoke. That’s exactly what this fragrance smells like. And believe it or not, it actually smells amazing and is surprisingly wearable.

I can’t lie this perfume gave me this unsettling and uncomfortable feeling when I first smelled it

Анонім★★★★★

Ok cool but WHAT DO YOU MEAN you can smell the holy water??😂 Adore the branding and would love to get my nose on this.

Warm, boozy and strangely peppery without ever becoming sharp. There’s whiskey, something hot and sweet, warm plastic and an almost inky quality. I can see a man, he sits alone in his dimly lit apartment while everyone thinks he should be out clubbing, drinking and chasing women. Instead, he's at his desk, under a cheap plastic table lamp with a glass of whiskey sitting beside freshly written calligraphy; practicing this ancient art that nobody considers cool anymore. He doesn't care. His rebellion isn't loud. He isn't fighting society. He's self-governed. He simply doesn't need anyone's permission to live exactly as he wants.

User-friendly version of Inexcusable Evil.

nothingburger, hold the awesomesauce. tried at hamburg fragrance library and asked about it in english because i was not confident in my german, staff made snide remarks to eachother in german about how perfume noobs really love trying toskovat and how toskovat is hard for newbies. was gonna buy a bottle of marlou pouderextase there but instead went home and ordered from a local company. i wonder if this is just what germans are like or if these employees just had stinky vibes. expected toskovat to be overhyped personally, found it to be so. its got plastic notes in the way a lipsticky dollhouse iris might, but overall was just kinda unexciting. i dont get what about this would be hard for newbies, its a very tame and boring perfume. low longevity, medium silage, leaning low. wish it was boozier, wish the ink showed up at all. it has wearability but the combination of notes is not super exciting, its less than the sum of its parts.

The -this perfume reminds me of- section for this perfume is unhinged, from Sauvage to Dora the explorer. That being said, I wanted to check if there are potential dupes for it because I find it incredible, and incredibly expenssive.

I keep going back to this fragrance after being so insulted by it. The first smell was plastic and harsh and then on the second round I saw the vision. It's like a romantic version of Patrick Bateman would wear this. It's severe and mean, but terribly, terribly charming. I hate myself for loving this and how often I wear it. It's probably perfect if you're trying to get into your villain era.

Can't get over this gorgeous creation. After many months from simply trying it on from my friend, I m still here in awe today wearing it. Forget the notes, forget the hype. This makes lost memories arise. This is pure emotion. Suspension. It's a powerful time capsule. Smells like quality solitude and sacred, empty space for insights and enlightening. Super weird, gorgeous. Incredible. It's being in a place and time disconnected from the present moment. I love the feeling. Pure sorcery. I feel like inception in my brain going from one level to another. If I had to pick two words : suspension and insight. Crazy 🖤🖤🖤

it's my first perfume from Toskovat and a great start. I thought the smell would be worse, but surprisingly enjoyed the combination of wax + $$$. the appeal to spray it on a day-to-day basis is alluring only because of the booze present in the notes. otherwise, it's an interesting experience that's slightly unworthy of such praise. I would recommend trying the sample if possible, looking at what memories it brings out in you, and only then deciding if you wanna go down this road.

I love this one! At first, it strangely reminds me of a Bic pen, but that impression disappears into something far more evocative. It smells exactly like the church I grew up in. This isn't warm incense or golden candlelight. It's cold. Stone floors after rain. Holy water. Melted candle wax. The faint smell of a priest's robes as he walks past. Fresh skin. Clean sweat. Winter air drifting through an old building. When I wear it, I'm back at a long Easter Mass. I'm a child again, sitting at the end of a wooden pew while dusk slowly settles outside. The stained-glass windows throw muted colours across the stone walls as the priest delivers his sermon. Everything is still. Quiet. Almost unnervingly so. Then another image appears. An empty room with faded yellow walls. Bare except for a chair. Cold enough that every sound lingers. It isn't frightening, but it carries the same strange solitude as a confessional, somewhere between sanctuary and isolation. That unsettling emptiness is what makes this fragrance so compelling. I showered wearing it, and I could still smell it on my skin the following day. It eventually melts into a soft skin scent, but it refuses to disappear completely, as if it wants to stay close rather than announce itself. I've never smelled another fragrance quite like this. It's clean without being soapy, sacred without smelling overtly religious, nostalgic without becoming sentimental. Haunting, contemplative, and quietly beautiful. One of my favourites from the house.

Smells so bad, unwearable as expected lol. It's truly the male counterpart of Toskovat' Age of Innocence. If you have smelled that, know that Anarchist smells exactly same, just none of the sweet or feminine notes. So it weirdly is less offensive, but still smells like inside of the car on a hot day. This perfumer loves gasoline I think!!! Maybe that's the point?

Анонім★★★★★

Highly synthetic boozy opening, which then goes to a more plastic forward profile. The plastic note to me smells less like a plastic bag and more so reminds me of a freshly synthesized polymer. The dry down on my skin still maintains the plastic character strongly, but it also develops a scent the I can only describe as a memory of incense on someone's clothes after mass. I appreciate the pretentious artistry behind this fragrance, yet despite that I don't think I'll be wearing it nor buying a full bottle anytime soon.

Анонім★★★★★

this perfume smells exactly like my ketamine phase in the winter of 2020

Wore this to see Backrooms. I wanted to be immersed in something synthetic and unnerving, which is very much how I’d describe this scent.

the booze is really strong on the spray, it's very hard to identify specific scents from this one, I do get plastic mixed in with booze and maybe some wood, it smells sweet, pretty fresh and almost fruity even though there are no fruit notes, but beyond that I really can't identify much. over time the sweetness starts to fade, leaving a pretty strong plastic smell and maybe even ink which I wasn't getting before. I still like it and it's very wearable vs other toskovat fragrances, some elements of this slightly reminds me of Fat Electrician by ELdO

This smells like frankincense, some hippie souvenir shop, or 80% of the aussie tobacco stores. I'll definitely wear it!!!

This is one of those fragrances where the concept pulled me in way more than the actual wear. The name, the imagery, the gothic religious undertones, the corruption, the abstract notes, the hypocrisy of it all, I completely understand the artistic direction. As a scent, though, this is not very me. The opening is strong, dry, sharp, and woody. Not forest woods, damp bark, or green trees. This is processed wood. It smells more like cut lumber, polished church furniture, dry wooden panels, or the inside of a hardware store than an actual forest. There is a cold, austere quality to it that immediately gives the fragrance a very severe structure. The candle wax note is also very noticeable to me. Unscented church candles, old wax residue, and something slightly smoky or resinous clinging to a cold room. That waxiness mixes with the woods and gives the fragrance a stiff, ceremonial feeling. As it develops, I get more of a sharp masculine cologne quality. There is something dry, woody, boozy, and slightly resinous that makes it feel like an expensive but morally questionable man. The whiskey and ink facets add darkness and some warmth in the overall biting cold of the structure; I can certainly detect them, but they are overshadowed by the strong woods all throughout it's span. While the money, credit card, priest’s clothes, and holy water all make sense conceptually. I cannot say I smell each of those literally, but I do smell the overall effect: cold wealth, dry wood, a polished mahogany desk, sealed envelopes, suspicious receipts, old wax, and sharp fabric. The plasticky/credit card(?) notes don't come across as a fun synthetic plastic to me, it's very cold and sterile. The “money” aspect almost reads as a dry, papery, inky, chemical texture under the wax and woods. It adds to the concept, but not necessarily to wearability for me; this as a whole is much too masculine and sharp.

smells like a burning church and booze

smells incredibly chemical, like plastic and printer ink. quite strong and distinct.

The year is 2005 - you're watching a Blendtec "Will It Blend?" video on YouTube and the scientist guy throws in some credit cards and booze. The fragrance gives what it promises, but isn't really for me.

Анонім★★★★★

This may not be wearable for where I am in life now...but I am transported to the late 80s/early 90s. 2am, NYC, in between clubs, some things you've gotta buy cash, heavy on vibes and adrenaline. The money is prominent to me. Incense and wood are highlighted in the drydown. I would LOVE a little more booze, but that was likely the underlying thought during those original scent experiences. I trust the perfumer dialed in just the right amount. Wild nights. This is a brilliant composition, I really like it, shockingly addictive!

Анонім★★★★★

This to me is in a very similar vein to BeauFort's Rake & Ruin and Profundum's Martyr, having that deep, woody, ambery, almost savory in a BBQ-esque way profile, just without the smoke/incense and/or spiciness of those two fragrances. Personally I wish there had been a noticeable whiskey accord, I don't really get one here at all. The early dry down starts developing a light metallic edge, but this is still so dissimilar to Inexcusable Evil I have no idea why people even compare Anarchist A- with it. The mid dry down is Amber Xtreme forward, so I no longer find the scent pleasing, and I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. On the bright side it dissuaded me from buying a bottle as I'm now suddenly very fixated on buying a Toskovat for some reason and this was a candidate but not anymore.

At first it's like smelling salts, it gives me an instant head rush, almost like an artificially induced headache but without the gnawing pain. Very chemical smell, reminiscent of poppers, once settled you get hints of something fresh, but like a hospital ward type of fresh, with a hint of fresh ketamine being produced in a sterile lab. It smells the way I would imagine an oncologist to smell like after a 12 hour shift. Not sure about its wearability, it's definitely a head turner.

You see, there was this trash vodka I drank in college, and when I smell the top of this, my stomach turns. I’m pretty sure the nose would laugh that we even critique this. Repellent!
