Gotta admit, this one took a while for me to like. Because of the baby powder comments in the reviews, thats all i got. Had this up for sale at a small loss but luckily no one bought it. After experimenting this a bit more, its def a cooler weather or evening fragrance. Could be year round, I see this could work in the winter but ideally spring/summer/fall , cooler but not too cold days OR nights. Takes a few mins before the baby powder scent goes away and boom, the amber sweet and slight saltiness comes in but a dam beautiful high quality blend. It went from a dam this was a scam to dam this is fucking amazing high quality niche shit. Anyways, just give it a few wears, make sure you take it outside and not at home, cooler weather. 9/10 for me!
Man I tried three different batches of this fragrance compared it to Ambre nuit 2018 witch I own ! still can’t get it all what I smell is this strong sour powdery smell not even ambery just sour baby powder where is the salt (I own Le sel dissey and a decant of aqua Di sale ) where is the amber it’s not even pleasant powdery like Prada lhomme I just don’t understand the hype or the luxury behind if this was in a JPG bottle or paco rabanne the amount of hate it will get
I hate and despise this fragrance. Maybe worse than secretions
Has the fresh expensive hotel lobby smell
The opening: If you ever fished in a river and caught a fish... Then if you pour baby powder on that fish, that's the opening. In the dry down there is an increased sweetness that helps blend the salt and baby power, then dries down into an amber, violet leaf, floral fragrance that is exquisite. Today I wore this in 100 degrees fahrenheit and it failed to perform and smelled horribly off putting. This works extremely better in cool weather.
I just wished I had the same experience all what I get is baby powder
Glycerin Cream With Light Citrus Incomprehensible
I feel like I like most of the listed notes but this fragrance really does smell like baby powder. Not unpleasant but not my thing.
I bought this perfume two times two different batches I own Ambre nuit 2018 batch compared the three together I get the resemblance but I don’t get any marines accords freshness or even amber in 40knots the newer batches they turn sour and unpleasant so I don’t know maybe my nose isn’t well trained enough for it or it’s just not for me I wished had the same experience of most of the users who rated it very high
To me it smells like Ambre Nuit without the rose and a little bit of salt
Cant lie, this does smell really good. But this does also smell very similar to Thameen Amber Room. Or maybe even a hybrid of Amber Room & Initio Rehab (I have all 3). Although for me, this leans much closer to Amber Room (like 93% similar) than it does to Rehab. For this reason, I would struggle to find a reason to own this if I hadnt already blind bought it. And I dont get the yacht vibes at all, and definitely no marine vibe. This barely even qualifies as a warm weather fragrance in any regard by my standards. All that said, the smell unto itself is truly chefs kiss. But due to lack of uniqueness (or moreso just due to redundancy in my own collection, as its not like you smell this sort of scent everywhere), I have to bump this down to a 7.5 out of 10. But if this was the only fragrance of this DNA that I owned, this would easily be a 9/10. Also, this nor Amber Room smell like baby powder at all - and Ive used baby powder all my life, and I can literally go pick up the 2 bottles of J&J baby powder sitting in my bathroom right now to compare.
It's just baby powder. I asked several people, and the first words out of their mouth was baby power. I can only assume that people who get other scents didn't grow up in a house or country with baby powder, at least, not with American baby powder.
i sprayed some on me and my husband, from across the room, gets all excited and asks what im wearing cuz it s lovely. an elegant, woody, oceany fragrance. the notest soften and enrich each other
I don’t think this is supposed to smell like the ocean, it’s supposed to smell like a boat. It’s the smell of a gentleman returning to shore from a brief sea excursion aboard his yacht. It’s the smell of the wood of the deck with the wind blowing a hint of the sea into the air.
This one evolves a lot, and because the notes are hidden and the smell shows many facets, it was very confusing to me at first (and sometimes still is). After wearing it a couple times, I've decided this is the best way I can describe it: The opening is like thinly sliced green apples sprinkled with cinnamon spice and a subtle drizzle of honey, served in a freshly carved wooden bowl. It's a balance of sweet-salty-spicy, heavy on the wood, and pretty fresh. If I bring my skin too close to my nose, I start perceiving a sharp and unpleasant metallic or mineral note, but if I keep my skin at 3-4 inches from my nose, it remains in that cinnamon-and-honey apple and wood territory. Over the next 30 minutes, on my skin, this metallic-mineral quality starts dialing up. I could see someone describing this as a green note instead, but to me, it's hard to get rid of that mineral reading. This is the only part of the fragrance that I dislike because it feels sharp and intrusive. It peaks around minute 20, and then slowly fades into this smooth wood. It's dry, ambered, and a little salty. As the metallic edge fades, my perception shifts from cinnamon-honey apple to a dash of salted lime over ambered woods. I could definitely see how some may read this fragrance as a sea-breeze on an expensive wooded sailboat, but this is the best way I can describe how I perceive the notes. I've heard this fragrance wears differently according to weather and season, so I'm excited to see where this continues to develop. Overall, this is a complex fragrance with a wonderful dry down. The metallic/mineral quality that emerges is challenging for me, but doesn't last, and it may not be something everyone's skin chemistry amplifies. Overall I think this is a great fragrance and worth taking the time to understand! I'd recommend sampling a couple times, as the first time I wore it I didn't like it, but once I knew what kind of evolution to expect, it was much less overwhelming and I felt I could enjoy the journey without the confusion.
Just got a bottle of this , first u smell a summer night cola scent after like 45 minutes it gets so powdery and aura as i can describe of a smell overall 9/10 🌃
Not sure how "Powdery" isn't in the official accords. This might as well be called Xerjoff Baby Powder, as it's the only note I get at all.
The 40 Knots has never struck me as a fragrance about the sea itself, but about the moment just before it. Its resinous, dense, almost oily opening evokes the awakening of a grand yacht: engines freshly ignited, warm metal, varnished wood, sun-heated leather, and a subtle trace of oil and diesel mingling with the salt air. Rather than embracing the familiar freshness of marine fragrances, it captures the weight, substance, and restrained power that precede movement. Perhaps that is precisely the meaning behind its name. Forty knots is not merely a measure of speed, but a symbol of the mechanical force required to achieve it. Before the wind takes over, there is an immense, silent engine working beneath the deck. The fragrance expresses that hidden energy through resins, polished woods, and a mineral accord that, without relying on oud, conveys warmth, depth, and engineering elegance. As it evolves, the engines seem to fade into the distance. The initial density gradually gives way to a salty breeze, illuminated by clean musks and a delicate rosy hue that feels less like a flower than a change in light. The woods soften, the salt begins to resemble sun-kissed skin after a day at sea, and the fragrance shifts from a sense of propulsion to one of quiet sophistication. This is what makes 40 Knots so distinctive. Rather than portraying the ocean, it tells the story of a voyage—from the silent power of departure to the effortless elegance of cruising in open waters. More than a marine fragrance, it is an olfactory interpretation of luxury, craftsmanship, and the atmosphere that surrounds life at sea.
Smells like a powdery unlit amber incense stick I thought this was somehow aquatic or fresh, it's not at all those notes are completely wrong, it is as suitable for summer as LV Ombre Nomade, Winter only scent I never smelled Dior ambre nuit but now I get where the amber comparisons are coming from The smell itself gives off a older rich person kind of vibe, I wouldn't wear it for myself
it smells like a bad cinnamon stick, does not smell blue at all, it smells spicy if anything.
٧٥/١٠ كرائحة عامة بالنسبة للسعر ١/١٠ - The opening is very sharp and synthetic, far below what you would expect at this price point. It also gives off notes that are difficult to identify and don’t resemble any of the listed notes. It almost smells like a light oud accord, but a harsh one After a few minutes, the fragrance settles and becomes a blend of oud and a green accord. The notes feel synthetic and don’t really resemble anything found in nature, which makes them difficult to compare to real smells. They are definitely not woody, salty, or airy light notes, quite the opposite A disappointing fragrance 4.75/10 as a scent overall 1/10 considering the price
Thought it was very one note but now its nice.
Notes are incorrect. I had a feeling they were wrong after smelling this in the store and thinking that there was definitely more to this than woods, sea salt, and sea notes. After checking Xerjoff's website, I found the ACTUAL notes: Top Notes: Sea Salt, Bergamot, Mandarin Heart Notes: Driftwood, Seaweed, Violet Leaf Base Notes: Musk, Leather, Styrax
I like it until the day someone told me I smell like cinnamon 🍬 candies, my brain locked , I cant use it any more 😞
40 Knots is amazing, but no aquatic notes to be found! Smells like in your face classy. This is Inition Rehab, but on steroids. Rehab has a 1 foot scent bubble, 40 Knots leaves a trail from one side of the room to the other! My first Xerjoff and one of my first 5 niche scents. Great for spring and summer, but fits fall weather like a glove as well!
At first, I doubted 40 Knots. I expected a fresh, airy marine fragrance, but what I got felt richer, creamier, and far less obvious. It wasn’t an instant “wow.” It felt confusing, even slightly off from what I was looking for, and my first reaction was to rate it around a simple 7/10. Instead of forcing a conclusion, I gave it space. I wore it again in different conditions, especially in cooler air and windy moments, and that’s when it started to open up. The fragrance shifted. What felt heavy became smooth. What felt unclear became structured. The salt, the woods, the creamy depth everything started to connect. It wasn’t just a scent anymore; it was a mood revealing itself slowly. With time, the doubt turned into respect, and respect turned into appreciation. I stopped comparing it to what I expected and started understanding what it actually is. The rating climbed because the fragrance itself didn’t change my perception did. 40 Knots is not something you categorize and forget. It’s not just “summer” or “winter,” not just another bottle on a shelf. It’s more like a character you meet again and again until you finally understand it. Subtle, confident, and layered. It’s a James Bond kind of fragrance never loud, never predictable, always fitting the moment without trying too hard. Its biggest weakness is its silence at first spray, but that silence is exactly where its depth lives. In the end, 40 Knots isn’t just a fragrance you like. It’s one you learn. And once you do, it stays with you differently.
I got a sample Months ago , tested it just on paper and didnt like it at all, kinda thought it smells Like grandma. Came Back to it today, tried on skin and absolutely hated it for few minutes. The opening smells like mix of Salt and toilet cleaner. I Was absolutely getting the vibe of badly cleaned public toilet with urine all over the floor. Once it goes away its actually very nice, smells like the soaps you get at the most fancy 5* Hotels. I would wear the mid but the opening is too pissy for me. Its also very light, sits very close to skin. Its a pass for now, will revisit in the future because there is something interesting about it.
40 Knots by Xerjoff: everything they say and then some! The composition is simple, but masterfully well crafted. The woody notes are slightly spiced, and together with the marine notes, they transform into a refreshing, spiced/aromatic composition with a very soft, warmer/ambery base. It is extremely sophisticated, nothing too casual. In the summer, I see it making more sense in air-conditioned environments, very airy spaces, or afternoon-to-evening transitions. Other than that, it is a perfect signature scent for all other seasons. The drydown features the JTC collection's own DNA along with the main profile of the fragrance: woody, aromatic, marine.
One of the best perfumes i have ever smelled. Must try!
