A CLASSIC Delicious Mature Red Potion, It's a feeling more than it is a scent, it's something that a Sultana would wear in her palace in a cozy in-palace night while watching dancers wearing silk moving for the calming music on candle golden light!

Material by Amouage for me it's all about the vibe. It gives me a feeling of pure prestige. The scent is beautiful, the composition is unique, but what really makes it special is the feeling it gives you. It feels elegant, confident, and effortlessly classy. It's the kind of fragrance that doesn't need to be loud to stand out. This is not a bridal perfume. This is the perfume of the bride's mother—standing proudly beside her daughter, dressed beautifully, confident, and carrying herself with quiet elegance. Absolutely a masterpiece

It's a complex amber fragrance, and over time I've started to avoid it because it's unpleasant and uncomfortable. I hope Amouage will reduce the concentration to make it more acceptable; it's very pleasant after five hours, which is too long to appreciate. 6/10

Yeah the opening is different from grand soir. Bit after an hour its the same! I Dont need this..

Анонім

Sexier more complex mfk grand soir with more woods. Didnt much like amber fragrances till I smelled this one. Bought 2 bottles because its so addicting. Get it before its gone. Ive had 2 sources confirm that this has been discontinued by Amouage.

I’ve worn this 5 times now so I think it’s time for my review. Material is a resin overdose. Every time I get a whiff of Material in the air, I feel as if I’ve been punched in the face with a different resin. One second it’s labdanum, the next it’s elemi. It just keeps going. Resinous/vanilla perfumes have to be crafted well and blended with immense balance, otherwise they become nauseatingly cloying. Two good examples of ambery vanilla perfumes becoming cloying includes JPG’s Le Male Elixir, and Zoologist’s Bee. Both smell as if you had a bad binge and ate 2 dozen donuts and you’re fighting against sickness. That’s where material wins me over. Cecile balances those sticky sweet resins with incense and patchouli. This takes the entire perfume into a lower “note” if you will. Obviously it’s still sweet and vanillic, but it becomes darker, smokier, and more palatable. *update- just got the smell of plant based chocolate protein powder. Ambery vanillas are not my favorite scent profile, but it’s well done here, however, I would still take the sticky-sweet and resinous powerhouse of interlude 53 any day of the week. My rating-8.7/10 Wearability-8/10 Versatility-6/10 Worth the price? On discounters, yes… but not retail.

saying this smells like Grand Soir, let alone Ambre Sultan is like saying Bleu de Chanel smells like Interlude Man

Material was one of the first fragrances I tried at the beginning of my scent journey. It starts off spicy, and is too much at first. As it dries down, it reminds me of my mom, maybe a lotion she wore when I was young, or an incense she would burn in our house. I think she'd love Material. I took it back off the shelf today, and found it to be overwhelmingly powdery, fading into something reminiscent of Chanel No 5 (which my mom used to wear).

Анонім

I really like it. The resins make it a more masculine Grand Soir. For Vanilla/Amber scents this is ranked second after Ani, and higher than Grand Soir. As for Zarokian's creations, it will always be Royal Tobacco.

I remember smelling this at the Istanbul airport last year… hated it it smelled rotten, today I smelled it at the boutique and it smells 1-1 to grand soir lol it’s good but I don’t think it’s worth it if you have grand soir

Material is good as base layer. Vincent at Soho store told me about it being discontinued. I got two back up bottles because this is a timeless scent. Can deepen and ground almost any fragrance. "mother."

Анонім

Stopped by the Amouage boutique yesterday while visiting SOHO in NYC and was informed this one is being discontinued. Got myself a back up bottle. I'd recommend you do the same while you can.

Анонім

This is blended to absolute perfection. It’s vanilla, a slight spice, balsamic, amber, gorgeousness. I CANNOT BELIEVE Amouage is stopping production on this. This is panic buying back up bottle worthy. Don’t let the notes fool you, material is gorgeous

Анонім

This is absolutely delicious. To me it smells like the love child of inito absolute aphrodisiac and MFK grand sour. I can't get enough of this. It smells delectable, sexy, classy, sophisticated and exotic. It is far from being the only amber vanilla on the market but in my opinion it is the best

Анонім

Amouage's version of Grand Soir, without amber listed, but Deeper, intenser, richer, spicier Way better then Grand Soir, but for me not worthy of a full bottle.

Анонім

This is an elevated version of Grand Soir essentially. Very resinous and ambery with a little bit of vanilla. This is a fall, winter and date night staple. In my opinion, this is very unisex. Anybody can pull this off. If you love a delicious amber Fragrance with a lot of resin this is gonna be right up your alley.

someone said it smels like root beer. i am from Denmark and had never tasted Root Beer until i got a Canadian gf, and i got addicted to root beer for 4 weeks straight. so i have a tester coming my way xD

I usually don’t like vanilla scent , but boy or boy this is amazing and smooth. It’s so beautiful. Strong but not overpowering. I can sleep in it which is rare . The vanilla is so smooth , the woods are faint and it feels clean. I never do back up bottles but on this one am about to change that. This is something l want to have in my collection for life . Complex yet simple

I loved this, it's a velvety Red Material! It's that type of velvet- red- serious- mature- sexy- deep style, THE THING IS.... IT HAS HEAVY AMBER NOTES, AND I HATE AMBER NOTES. Such a shame I won't be able to enjoy it on the long run, I can appreciate it from a far, but I can't buy a full bottle of it, I used the sample for the third time today and I started to feel that bad rotten Seniors Nursing home vibe I always get from the amber heavy notes. No matter how much I loved the other notes, my nose COULD NOT TOLERATE AMBER, I CAN TEMPORARY TOLERATE IT ONLY FOR ONCE OR TWICE FOR TESTING OR RESEARCH PURPOSES :(

I eagerly anticipated the arrival of a generous decant, so I might experience this fragrance again (previously bought a decant). I am a self-proclaimed Amouage junkie. Guidance will be my forever number one perfume...bar none. I also wear and love Memoir Woman, Love Delight, Love Tuberose and Portrayal Woman. And while likable and nice enough, my impressions of Material haven't changed since I first wore this fragrance in 2024. Material opens with an extremely strong and prominent blast of elemi and oud wood. For me the lemon-heavy elemi is overpowering and borderline acerbic. Within minutes, the fragrance morphs into a rather generic, mediocre, amber-centric perfume with lots of oud and wood in the base. If vanilla is present, it is very slight, barely detectable. With time, I detect a slightly smoky note along with an average amber accord. For the money, I much prefer Jovoy "Ambre Premier," Profumum Roma "Ambra Aurea," Goutal "Ambre Fetiche," or even Masque Milano "Tango."

Анонім

Material is undoubtedly a classy perfume, well made, unfortunately too straightforward for my taste. My memory was of a more vanilla scent, I was wrong, the whole thing is amber and cinnamon, although cinnamon is not listed in the ingredients. For me it is a distant relative of Must by Cartier and Youth Dew Estee Lauder. I can see the veeery distant similarity with Addict Dior, but Addict is still modern sounding, unlike Material. I can imagine a dignified lady Prime Minister wearing a black suit to a formal event and two splashes of Material.

DeepThinking,I’m sorry, but you got a fake perfume, my dear. I stopped buying from these grey market websites long ago. I only buy retail, because you can never be sure!

I am so lost. I just sprayed this on a tester. Nothing. So faint I could hardly smell it. Gave it to my wife to try to see if I was going nose blind and she said the strip smelled like alcohol. I am in shock at this point cuz you know... Amouage. I sprayed on skin 2 sprays. Still faint nice smell. Two mor on my chest and back of neck and one on each side neck. Nada. No projection no sillage no scent period. I am so sad cuz what I do smell is a nice scent. But it doesn't smell strong enough for me to actually fully appreciate it. Anyone else have this problem. I bought it on Jomashop and in 2026. Help! Edit: Later review: Turns out that my nose just goes instantly blind to this fragrance. What a sad thing. I have to spray it and hold my breath for a few seconds then walk away from where I sprayed it to be able to start breathing and be able to smell it, and I can't bring it close to my nose or else I go anosmic. Seems that its nuclear especially to my nose. In the air it smells great.

This… this right here y’all.. is soooooo good. WOW! From the very first spray I was honestly a little stunned. Deep, sensual, enveloping, and completely addictive! This is a resin soaked, amber drenched, slightly smoky vanilla that feels textured and dimensional. The opening has this subtle brightness, but almost immediately it melts into something warmer and richer. The benzoin and vanilla together create this SMOOTH, creamy glow. Not sugary, not gourmand, not fluffy. It’s dense in the most beautiful way. As it develops, the resins and incensey nuances come forward. There’s a subtle smokiness weaving through everything.. giving it depth and sensuality. It feels grown, confident, and luxurious. Not playful vanilla. Not bakery vanilla. This is vanilla with weight, with structure, with intention. It’s SEXY without trying too hard. ADDICTIVE without being sugar loaded. ENVELOPING without suffocating. The drydown is where it really shines on my skin.. warm amber, resin, and creamy vanilla wrapped together in the smoothest way possible. I genuinely can’t stop smelling myself when I wear this. Likeeee. Oh em gee! Dear god please don’t tell me this is being discontinued. Can anyone officially confirm if it is? I NEED this in my life.

I am and remain an incurable blind-buyer and avid YT-influencer follower although I KNOW it´s wrong...So I blind-bought Material because it`s Amouage and because it`s Cecile Zarokian and..yes because my fragrance YT-gurus Sebastian, The Perfume Guy and Demi Rawling put this on on top of their Amouage-ranking-list (two years ago).So I was so excited when I got the fragrance that I sprayed without a second thought a healthy dose on my arm and was instantly shocked...because I was hit by a blast of elemi and patchouli. I had not checked the notes before of course and being a sworn patchouli-hater (I can tolerate it in the base of fragrances) I was very tempted to scrub it off...which would have been a big mistake.Because Cecile is like a magician, and what followed was a mix of deep dark spices, resins and of course incense. The vanilla here is beautiful, initially not sweet, reminiscent of Vanilla Edesia, but it becomes more intense and sweeter on the way to the dry down, perfectly blended with the balsamic notes and the incense. The oud is (thankfully) barely there, between all the other notes. Conclusion; it is a powerful balsamic and resinous vanilla, unisex, better suited for cold weather because it is heavy and it is for sure NOT a blind buy! The olfactory journey is like a walk through a gothic castle: scary in the beginning, then dark, mysterious, but always thrilling. This one is not for the faint of heart,it is how I imagine Maleficent or Morticia Adams or even Akasha, the vampire queen, would smell like...

Smoked vanilla-tonka liqueur, very heavy and warm, like being swathed in a thick fur blanket loaded with the scent. I see the comparison to Grand Soir but it's not identical, this one wears spicier and incensed. Gets more powdery on my skin as it dries. I'd definitely consider a full bottle once I finish my sample.

Amouage decided to discontinue this gem, starting autumn of 2025, beside Sunshine Woman. What a crime. A beautiful warm creation, absolitely unisex, very powerful and dense lile a liqueur in its first editions, small pretty packing with magnetic box. This is unique bourbon vanilla amvery incense smell which lasts all day long. I love it and I deeply regret they decided to out it out from production. Look after firzt edition in "book" box, it s better in all terms. 😞💗

This is one of the best fragrances I’ve ever tried. When I visited the shop, they told me it was being discontinued and production had stopped. That was incredibly disappointing for me, so I bought a backup.

Ambery opening on my skin with a beautiful kiss of amber that lingers all throughout. Rich, with a gorgeous oud dry down that is tastefully enveloped by what my nose picks up as tonka bean creaminess. This is one of the most beautiful feminine scents from the Amouage lineup I own. It is grown, but not old, with a vanilla that comes smoothly in and out giving space to the oud and the tonka to caress the senses and make me addicted to my own scent. It is gorgeous to my nose and on my skin. Not for everyone, but it is definitely for me.
