Marzipan mixed with old lady.
I'm starting to learn that BDK is either a huge love or a disastrous hate for me, there is no middle ground... Sadly, Velvet Tonka falls under the latter for me, along with the notorious piss-adjacent Sel d'Argent... 🫠 Something about Velvet Tonka smells geriatric to me, maybe it's my association, but it definitely is not something I wanna smell like before I hit my 80s...
Decluttering! Selling a 100ml bottle worn probably 3 times. Instagram is trendynailsss27
A realistic and almost bitter almond opening that turns to marzipan, as another reviewer said. It feels more gourmand than a vanilla fragrance. There is a touch of salt to ground it and keep it from being too sweet. But it is sweet. Any vanilla is truly bourbon vanilla, a slight boozy edge. I would say this reminds me of Amaretto.
Last autumn, I blind bought Swiss Arabian Shaghof Oud Tonka. Tonight, I tried a decant of Velvet Tonka. I had no idea they would smell identical. This fades so much faster than Oud Tonka though, which is criminal considering the price difference. If you love this fragrance, really try the cheaper version to see if it scratches the itch for you. Either way, you're going to smell like marzipan.
This is a VERY realistic marzipan scent. For those who love that iconic candy might love it, those who hate it will highly likely hate it. I tried this when I was looking to try out another scent from the brand. Almond is one of my top notes, I LOVE Good Girl and Givenchy Nude Velvet Irresistible, so this was initially a big like for me. I said "let's try it longer. sit with it, spend a day with it" and I went back to the store again for a second time. Then this week even bought a 10 ml decant size. I see it's nice, but when you realize it's a very realistic marzipan smell, turned into a somewhat chemical-y perfume, its magic starts fading away. I was genuinely interested in purchasing a bottle but just a couple days after trying it for longer and a few times more, its initial spell on me wore off and the almond started to turn warmer and less candied. Nothing to hate about it, but nothing to love either. Definitely gave it a good amount of time to see if it'd be worth a full bottle purchase for me. Verdict is: it's not. The other almond heavy scents I mentioned are, even when more "commercial", better than this one imo.
Good date night 👌🏾
A soft and powdery beauty. Happy with my purchase.
this is so addictive. sweet candied almond over vanilla, but not so sweet that it’s cloying. the florals are present but not individually detectable, they add this sort of “clean” quality to the scent that I just adore. as others have said, the tobacco is not detectable. very unique and comforting. this has quickly become a favorite.
I don’t know how many times I have ordered decants of this fragrance in the last couple of years. I’m sure the amount of money I have paid for decants of this fragrance equals the amount of a full bottle. I like it, but I want to love it. I love almond scents but this sometimes smells like an almond soap at first, a very nice one though. Then it turns into a sweet candied powdery almond with sweet rose. The rose is prominent on me but in a soft sweet powdery way; an almond rose. Smells feminine, clean and sweet in a proper way. Reminds me of all of the Keiko Mecheri Loukhoum fragrances or like an almond version of Delina La Roseé.
This perfume smells absolutely incredible… it keeps pulling me back to it again and again and again. If you want a truly non-ordinary piece in your collection, I would definitely recommend it. When I own it in the future, I’m sure it will become one of my signature scents. It has a slightly spicy opening, but it’s not overwhelming at all and its very cozy. It’s not overly feminine, but it’s not masculine either. It feels like it belongs to people who know exactly what they want in life and have refined taste⚜️
Almond with marzipan and this is utterly addictive, I cant stop smelling myself, it is warm but also smells very clean, it gives you a very cozy feeling. When the almond starts to cool down after a few hours, the vanilla kicks in, a transition to savor! It contains tobacco but it is not detectable. It is a gourmand, but certainly not over the top, its very refined. Are you an Almond lover, you have to try this for sure!
Obviously a well made perfume and easy on the senses. I can't believe rose is not voted higher? This has a clear soapy rose in the background of this (bitter-)almond centered perfume. Like many of the loukum based scents, however more subtle and discreet than many of them that many times are way too heliotrope-playdoughy.
powdery, cashmere-like vanilla. almost get a whiff of jasmine, that teases from under the dried down almond blanket. Subtle, intimate.
I love this! It doesn’t smell like your typical vanilla Perfume. I am a self proclaimed Perfume addict. I prefer to think of it as a collector. The opening is very vanilla very almond, but not your cheap smelling bakery vanilla I also get the tobacco almost right away, but it is not overpowering to take over the original opening, but it’s there and it’s nice. I get a little paranoid when I see tobacco in a scent because it can be so overpowering but sometimes it’s needed to be there to balance out sweetness. It lasts all day I wouldn’t think of it as a warm weather fragrance. I really like this a lot, which is a good thing because I never buy decants I always blind buy full bottle perfumes. I know crazy right? So if you like a very dense smelling vanilla almond tobacco scent that last forever this is your baby. This is just how I smell it as I know everybody smells fragrances differently. At last forever on skin, I put it on in the afternoon and the next morning I could still smell it on me and it was sprayed on my wrist.
Sweet marzipan with vanilla, very feminine, versatile addictive and sexy.
so good, love it
Love it! Vanilla Dr Pepper gourmand with a strong almond all the way through which can come off medicinal kind of like bengay pain ointment which I hate the smell of but I enjoy the scent for some reason. Lovely vanilla tonka floral
This was god awful. cloying screechy almond and vanilla, like what imagine if I was served an cyanide laced almond cookie, this might be what I'd smell as it neared my lips. I only sprayed this on paper and it still reeked 24 hrs later from several feet away. If you've sprayed this on yourself and can't smell it- I can assure you, you've gone nose blind, everyone else can smell you for certain. This was not a light, friendly scent by any means. Heavily gourmand for me.
#101 of My Fragrance Journey - BDK Velvet Tonka: A suspension of dust and honey There's a moment - usually evening, usually quiet - when the air folds closer to the skin. That's exactly where this one lives. It opens sweet, but not in the way that puts you on guard. No heaviness, no resin slamming the door. This is softer than that. Almond comes forward early and stays - not shy, not fleeting - central to the whole thing, like icing sugar catching light just before it dissolves. Not edible exactly, but it carries the suggestion. Warmth. Something close to comfort. Tonka underneath it, rounding everything out, making it feel expensive without making it feel like effort. The gourmand effect, but composed. No stickiness. No excess. It unfolds slowly, and the edges blur further. Orange blossom comes in more as a glow than a flower - lifting the sweetness without cutting it. Amber, vanilla, a trace of something honeyed at the base. Everything connected. Nothing competing. But here's the thing - the almond never really lets go. It's not cloying. Just persistent. Insistent, almost. And the fragrance is linear, deepening rather than changing, and depending on who you are, that's either the whole point or it's exactly the problem. Sometimes you want a snap. A bit of smoke, something bitter, a moment where it catches you off guard. Velvet Tonka doesn't do that. It stays a velvet curve, start to finish. It sits close. That's intentional. This isn't a projection fragrance - it's an intimacy fragrance. The kind where someone has to lean in to get it, and when they do, they get all of it at once. Dust and honey. Marzipan warmth. Unmade linen in low evening light. The tonka gives the almond something to stand on - a low hum of tobacco and hay underneath the sweetness, grounding it just enough. It's a beautiful weight. But it is still weight. You have to be willing to carry it, let it settle into your skin, and stay there without apology. On fabric, it lingers for days. On skin it clings softly, projecting close, never loud. On the right evening, it feels like a second skin. Warm, specific, slightly indulgent. Not difficult - just particular about when it works. Vibe: Soft. Grounded. Someone's bedroom at 10 PM. Performance: 7–9 hours on skin, longer on fabric. Intimate projection - a close-range scent. Fit: You wear this when the night is already settled, and you're not going anywhere - or when you want whoever's closest to feel like they're the only person in the room. Does a scent this consistent become its own kind of comfort - or does the stillness eventually make you restless? More scent stories and visuals on Instagram - @lavendercloudsjd

Marzipan but not gourmand. Its sweet and almondy and even almost buttery but not edible. Nicely toes the line between sweet/girly without being saccharine.
This smells like straight up gasoline on my skin, but that may just be the almond note punching through. With that being said, this fragrance leans heavily masculine to my nose. It reminds me of Tonka Bodykon 31 by Pierre Guillaume Paris, but this leans more masculine to me - alot less sweet. This also has zero lasting power. I sprayed this at 11:00 AM and now I can barely smell it on my skin.
this smells so good but it doesn't last at all.. beautiful opening of rich almond and vanilla with some sweetness. it develops on me to be pretty powdery and sweet the first hour or two. then turns into something a bit smokier and nice. however it doesn't even leave any residue smell after 5 hours or so... i'm pretty disappointed since i love the smell. i layered it on top of molecule 04 and it seems to help both with longevity and counter the overly sweet and powdery part. my bottle is only a couple weeks old, i am hoping it will continue to deepen in the next few months and last longer too. it does smell a bit lighter than the one i sprayed in store. id love to hear of other layering that helps its longevity it reminds me of van cleef & arpels bois dore. honestly Velvet Tonka is one of my favorite scents that i own but i am just sad it doesn't last at the moment. i don't mind when fragrances just become a skin scent but this one disappears completely by hour 5.. up until then everything smells very good. really hoping some time can help it because i truly love this one
Tried to love this because I love almond as a note, but this smells like cyanide to me. Kidding, it's more like that very sharp pool-like smell. No, thanks.
It would have been a love if not for the rose...I just can't with rose. I keep trying though. ☹️ p.s. I layered it with Molecule 04 & it masked the rose note...much better for me.
I like it. Vanilla and tonka with just a hint of rose, sweet, warm and cozy, one of those scents you want to keep sniffing.
The almond note kills it for me. Too much like a pastry vibe… almond croissant overload. It’s pretty if you like nutty gourmands but this ain’t for me.
No this is not unisex! Comming from a man that wears unisex and feminin, niche fragrances. This is a almond white floral, feminin fragrances. Not for me.
Almond always gives me a dark cherry vibe and the way its mixed with the tonka and vanilla gives me the impression of a cherry-vanilla coke (without the sparkling carbonation of soda, maybe more like the syrup used to make it). Definitely sweet but in a muted way that feels a bit more mature and refined than a teenie bopper sweet frag. The scent is thick in texture like a proper gourmand. Truly a delicious and easy to enjoy scent, but missing something that would make me categorize it as "luxurious". I think this could be a fantastic fragrance choice to buy as a gift for someone who likes fragrances but maybe isn't a niche snob. As a guy, I can be a bit sensative to overly feminine scents but this one is straight down the middle unisex to me. I think men will like this on women and women will like this on men. Men could easily layer this with a leather or tobac frag and give it a manly twist. That being said, I'd point men in the direction of Lhomme Ideal Extreme by Guerlain if you really want a masculine alternative to this scent which projects a bit better and is cheaper in price. Projection does seem rather intimate after the alcohol dries down so if you're a performance snob like myself that could be a deal breaker on this one. Overall decent but wouldn't be full bottle worth for me.
