Smells like rum and coke, with a pinch of mandarin and cardamom. The smell is good, mildly spicy and sweet with boozy accords. But the performance is abysmal, this turns to a soft skin scent after 5 minutes and is completely gone by the 2 hours mark.

After experiencing Encounter, I am not surprised that, despite its impressive advertising campaign, the fragrance failed to achieve commercial success. Quite simply, it is a weak composition. The concept behind Honorine Blanc and Pierre Negrin’s creation was genuinely promising: a dark, masculine blend built around boozy and woody accords. Unfortunately, the execution falls far short of the idea. The result is a fragrance that, in my opinion, simply does not smell good. That being said, Encounter cannot be accused of being generic or overly mass-market. And it does have a certain character of its own. It also offers one unexpected advantage — it makes you appreciate other masculine fragrances from the American house even more, especially classics such as Eternity for Men and Obsession for Men. At the same time, it reinforces the impression that Calvin Klein is one of the most inconsistent fragrance houses on the market when it comes to quality. My rating: Dissuaded. (2/7)

This was my signature scent for so many years. I'm so sad it seems to be discontinued. I love it and I just wish it lasted longer. I know it's along the same line as The One or Burberry London. But this one had scratched a particular itch for such a long time that those ones couldn't.

Maybe I'm easily pleased but I like this alot, a bit sweet then a bit spicy, love the smell so it's a yes from me, oh and it was a 100ml bottle which was given from person at work as he was given a few unopened and decided to spread the love for free, I slipped him a crisp £10 so quids in. A solid 6.5/10

This stuff is really nice and would be Masterpiece territory if it performed better and if the oud hung around longer. You get just a touch of it initially then it's gone. You get mostly spicy booziness that only lasts about 5 hours or so.

After years of not finding anymore I found 30 ml bottles from a discount vendor site for 24 dollars. Hot dog does it still smell good! Ive missed my old friend of a cologne, even if it only sits in my skin. But wow! For at least 2 hours does it smell great! I wish some clone house will be inspired to recreate this accord with more quality ingredients. What is lacking in the formula that the longevity is cut short? I loce this still. Encounter was my signature for a little while amd it was my first true mature man's fougere. I was in my early 20s. I can still rock it just for me.

A nice Woody Spicy fragrance with Rum and Cognac Theme. Boozy, Warm and Classy. This is perfect for the cool weather, Nowadays it is rare and hard to find. It opens up with semi sweet fresh spicy, boozy and spices notes in the background then dry down is musky woody. I'm so happy that I have it in my collection and I really enjoy it. Longevity is Average. Rating : 7.5 / 10

Would’ve been an all time classic if a little stronger: longevity is fine, but it’s very soft. Nevertheless, it smells heavenly.

One of my faves. My gal pals always want to steal it from me. If it’s discontinued, I better hold onto my bottle tightly.

There are other CK's still in production that should have been discontinued before this one. Light ambery, oudy, spicy scent that I enjoy. Not terribly loud or long lasting but i can still smell it on my skin the next morning. Bring Encounter and Calvin back CK aka Coty.

Aromatic, spicy and alcoholic notes with woody background have created a chic and appealing opening here. Although the notes are synthetic, they are selected correctly and none of them are nasty. In the drydown, the oud prevails. The oud here is not an Arabic oud, it's the kind of that modern medicinal oud we'd seen in Tom Ford's Oud Wood, but with a much lower quality. Contrary to what the votes show, it's not a bad perfume. Encounter for Men was launched in 2012 and its concept speaks of the man who needs to understand the opposing feelings of tension and desire. The ad campaign featured actor Alexander Skarsgard who, at the time, was in high gear in the media thanks to his role in the series "True Blood". The bottle has straight lines and was inspired by modern architecture, making a direct connection with the advertising campaign film, all recorded with a blue-gray filter and focused on a glass house on top of a mountain overlooking the sea. Encounter’s fragrance was created by Honorine Blanc and Pierre Negrin, both from Firmenich, and brings notes of rum, green cardamom, and mandarin at the start; Jasmine from Egypt, cognac, patchouli, and pepper, in the body; Atlas cedar, OUD, and musk, in the base. On the skin, Encounter reveals a romantic and seductive fragrance. But the starting point is very alcoholic, by the way, and the rum note doesn't quite show its beauty. It's the mandarin orange that ends up dominating during the first stage. Between the first contact with the fragrance and the body notes, there is a moment of strangeness, which conveys an aspect of low quality. But when the second gear is shifted, Encounter picks up steam and looks more mature and sensual. The cognac note is warm and gives an ambery content, which gains more presence with patchouli. Then, the fragrance behaves in another way, sweeter and warm, with a drying of light woods and a barely noticeable spicy touch. The Agarwood note (OUD) is not evident, which was a source of great dissatisfaction for those who bought this perfume blindly. And the fact is Encounter is not a scent with high projection. On the contrary, it stays close to the skin and follows the same intimate style as The One, launched in 2008 by the brand Dolce & Gabbana. By the way, Encounter seems to have been an attempt to snatch up that type of consumer, who doesn't want to leave a trace, but rather conquer by whispering in the ear. Longevity is also not the best and Encounter ends up lasting, at most, about six hours, requiring reapplication or some extra sprays on the clothes, which shouldn't be advice to anyone. At the same time, it is the type of perfume that managed to conquer a market share that had never surrendered to the brand's popularity and strangely, never gained an intense variation, just a fresher one, launched in 2013. In the end, Encounter is an unforgettable meeting for some and not so memorable for others

It really does smell good as long as it lasts. Put your shirt on. Put the bottle inside your shirt , sprayer to your chest, spray 10-12 shots to your chest, letting your shirt trap the atomized scent as much as possible. With the Reveal trapped thus between shirt and chest, it will last as long as possible, and all those sprays a re no problem since the juice is not potent at all. It will smell best this way because you can actually smell it for half the day or more. It really does smell nice and you will get compliments if a lady or two get inside your personal space.

I have the massive 185ml bottle of this and whenever i wear it i go heavy on the trigger 'around 8-10 sprays' and it lasts most of the day. The Scent itself is great, and it's one i really enjoy wearing in Autumn. 7.5/10

This fragrance is sooo disappointing because it has potential to be a really solid fragrance... The note profile is interesting ... And the composition is actually really nice ... I actually really enjoy the scent ... The oud is blended well with the boozy notes... (It could use some vanilla in it IMO)... And I could even settle for subpar projection... but the performance on this one is shameful ... It's as tho the perfumer made no effort at all for this to be anything beyond a skin scent... Quite sad 🥺

CK Encounter is surprisingly good. The opening has this pleasant but very mature vibe to it - alcohol at a club kind of vibe. I always find Mandarin Orange a bitter note , its not a bad thing. But CK Encounter's opening adds a dash of sweetness to this. Wearing it as a skin scent but its not really suited for work, unless you work as a croupier (in which case i apologise). I find the projection of this is just right, but then i don't want big 90s style overpowering scents.

CK Encounter is a really interesting, masculine fragrance ruined by terrible performance. It opens with the fresh citrus, a nice spiciness with the cardamom and pepper, and the fantastic boozy accords. As it dries down, the pepper develops, and you get some earthiness from the patchouli. It honestly smells fantastic for the price. The performance is shambolic, though. It sits close to the skin from the start, is a skin scent within half an hour, and is almost completely gone within an hour. I know performance isn't everything, and for a cheap fragrance, moderate performance is not an issue at all. But there is no reason for the performance to be this terrible, and you shouldn't stand for it. Even at the lowest price point for a fragrance, there are some diamonds in the rough. F Black by Ferragamo for example, while it doesn't have the booziness of Encounter, has a similar peppery, spicy, cooler weather vibe. For exactly the same price, you get an equally great scent, and 8 hours of performance, with a nicely projecting sillage too. You can reapply a fragrance during the day, of course, but when it gets to the point of having to reapply every half an hour, there's just no point. A hard pass for me.

I liked this one! Very confident, flirty scent. It had also a bit of Axe deodorant vibes though ... Sadly the performance is really bad. It's a skin scent from the beginning and only lasts about an hour.

While I was cleaning my wife's closet, a 5 ml vial appeared out of nowhere and fell on the floor. Half-full or half-empty, I sprayed a couple on my hand. BOOM! Its masculine and boozy scent had me wanting it. In my country, it is quite difficult to find this fragrance. Not even available on FragranceX. Been searching for it online for weeks. Then I finally had the chance to buy a 30 ml sample for $30 from China (quite expensive, yeah?). It really smells amazing! But I wanted more! So after another 4 months of searching online, I finally found a 100ml spray online for $30 (same price as the 30ml bottle!). I bought it right away and again became very satisfied with my purchase. But no matter how much I love the scent, it's only disappointing that it doesn't last long and projection is very poor. But I appreciate its opening smell. Kind of addictive. Oh well, even with its poor overall performance, I'd still buy this fragrance not to get compliments but to enjoy smelling it.

Well, i like it. It is sexy! Young! Has a style. And it is manly! The main accord is very very nice, Only problem it surrounded by this "axe deodorant" cloud which put it on the edge... But still good.

Save your money and buy yourself a water bottle I bet water smell will last longer 😒

Lets be honest, its a decent fragrance. I enjoy wearing it, for the price it's a rather nice boozy woody masculine scent. But, the huge turn off is obviously the performance. Longevity is poor, 1-2 hours if ur not going very hard on the sprayer. Sillage also is poor, it's basically a skin scent straight away. Scent: 7/10 Performance: 2/10

Awesome scent, one of my favorites. It has a clean, fresh(not lemony), classy mysterious vibe to it. I love this one. Haven't come across one that smells anything like it. A manly type but nothing close to older manly types that are full of musk & oakmoss. A well groomed, clean, dark colors dressing type of man (not preppy). Mysterious is the vibe! Sad it's discontinued.

Dang! Wish I hadn't slept on this, it smells superb. I had been searching for this for a while and really didn't want to blind buy due to the mixed reviews, amazingly today I stumbled upon it in a perfumery which I don't often visit. I spritzed on the back of my right hand, waited a few seconds then sniffed but I could hardly smell anything. I then went and tried another fragrance on my other hand then left the store. Around 10 minutes later I sniffed my right hand again and...Wow! Such a beautiful smell! I was instantly reminded of something then it hit me (no not the boomerang I'd thrown earlier!), Encounter reminds me of the fantastic CK Obsessed for men Intense EDP released last year, though this one is lighter with less amber and just more toned down in general. I suggest people watch the stylish video advert above as to me this fragrance fits with it perfectly, the premise is a close encounter between a woman and a man on a dark rainy night. This seems/seemed to be CK's answer to La Nuit de l'Homme and 'The One' and I think it's as good in terms of scent and performance is similar too (ie soft with average at best longevity). I don't get how anyone could actually dislike this but hey we're all different I suppose. I'm now on a mission to track down a reasonably priced bottle of this subtle and alluring elixir, perfect for those special encounters (now I just need some of those :P ).

i bought a 3.4oz bottle from ebay for $11.95. i thought it was an awesome deal considering the size. i was really hopeful because i love the ck line. all i smell when this is sprayed is christmas trees. this is definitely a winter cologne, but not one of their best. it's not even halloween yet and the whole house smells like choke-y pine trees. sorry, but this is a "no" from me. a clean, soapy scent is what i was hoping for, nothing smells better than a nice clean man.. and this just doesn't do it.

I just bought today a 50ml bottle of this juice and I all have to say is that I totally love the coconut and some liquor scent. I don't know why some people discriminate CK fragrances, maybe because they are not super expensive or not "Tom Ford" kind of scents. The longevity is average (3 to 5 hours in my skin) for the moment. I also like the deep blue color of the bottle, it seems a little bit elegant.

For me, this is an unbearably chemical scent, it literally gives me headache.

Scent is good Performance is very weak, Axe can do better than this. Conclusion: A good scent that you can’t enjoy or detect.

Sweet, boozy notes with a touch of spiciness from the cardamom to give it depth. Not quite as bad as the ratings might seem to indicate. Projection is pretty lacking though, I can barely smell it without putting my wrist up to my nose.
