I've worn countless bottles of this and its "Sport" flanker. Roadster is not minty in a realistic way like crushed mint leaves, or even ELDO-YOSLY (which to me is more of a sweet mint tea anyway). It is an intensely fresh aromatic that carries a long lasting dose of green electricity. Not sweet. I'd buy more if it wasn't discontinued.
This thing rocks. I wore it when I was a teenager. Must have nicked it from my father. It was musky yet clean and earthy. I loved it so much. Finished my bottle and then it became discontinued. Very sad. I recently came across it and manged to get a bottle. It is now my signature again. The mint carries a strong power to it. Altogether it gives sophistication yet not quite leathery. If I have the opportunity, ai will buy it endlessly. If you can get it, I recommend it. It's discontinued nature makes it more than a niche perfume. And because people dont seem to know about it, there is a high chance that you will smell like nobody that you know
OG Roadster Edt is one of my favorites out of the 5 Cartier mens’ fragrances in my collection. As soon as I sprayed it, I knew. Don’t think about it. Just get it.
In my view, Roadster is a well-crafted and refreshingly modern fragrance for men. It carries a slightly sporty character, which should indeed appeal to a younger audience. It’s worth noting that in 2009 Cartier released a separate flanker, aptly named Roadster Sport. Returning, however, to the fragrance at hand — despite its solid construction, it never quite won me over. I enjoy cool, green compositions, yet there’s something missing here. Perhaps it’s the pace of the fragrance’s development: everything seems to happen a little too quickly, as if it never has enough time to fully unfold. And that’s a shame, because Mathilde Laurent’s concept was genuinely intriguing. My rating: Worth getting to know. (5/7)
Cartier Roadster is a true gem. I'm genuinely impressed by its unique scent profile—fresh, elegant, and effortlessly bold. It’s a shame this masterpiece has been discontinued, because its projection and longevity are still remarkably solid. A timeless fragrance I wish more people could experience.
This can be a pretty strange fragrance at first as the opening is a bit cacophonic due to the mint / vanilla clash. But the dry down is very very nice. Personally I also started to like the opening as it’s so unique. The drydown is a mix of Sweet Mint, woodsy with a splash of vanilla and a good dose of patchouli gives this fragrance elegance and a perfect balance between modernity and vintage aromatic fragrances like YSL Pour Homme or Armani eau pour Homme. Very masculine , elegant but also somewhat experimental. It’s hard to describe it. The mint note is excellent and I wish more fragrances had a mint note as good as this. I love the bottle and cap as well and the longevity is way above average for me. Good sillage too.
Roadster de Cartier is an underrated and unique fragrance that offers something rare: a combination of fresh mint with a rich and full-bodied base. It breaks away from the generic market trends, betting on a bold, elegant and timeless olfactory construction. It is a perfume that appeals more to perfumers and collectors, but it can also surprise those looking for a refined and different signature. Final score: 9/10 A modern classic, with just the right amount of freshness and depth. Ideal for those who want to stand out in a discreet but sophisticated way. Longevity and Projection Longevity: Excellent 8 hours Projection: Moderate to strong in the first few hours, then becomes more intimate Sillage: Sophisticated, discreet, but striking
Nice masculine composition. Leans mature, CEO type scent. Not dated unless you into bubblegum and chocolate fragrances. Thankfully its not another unisex cash grab like you see today. Perfumer designed it for a man. That's what artist do they create things on a personal level. Unfortunately Roadster use to be a bargain but prices way up since it's discontinued.
Dusty, powdery, rosy unisex frag. I had a sample once which left me a good memory. I tried it again recently and was disappointed. Reminds me a bit of L'Homme Ultime by YSL or Declaration d'Un Soir. But those two are much better than Roadster. I don't smell the mint that much.
The green vetiver, mint, patchouli swirl together into something mature and masculine. Smells a bit like my dad after he would come in from working in the garage. On the synthetic side but it smells good. Metallic cologne-y 2000’s vibes done well. Does it completely floor me? No. It isn’t like an Amouage Beach Hut or Rogue Mousse Illuminee for example, which is natural minty green dialed to an 11. But it is pleasant enough to get a thumb up. 7.5/10
This is one of those reapplying openings that you can't get enough of, with that refreshing mint note then the vetiver and vanilla kick in too smooth it out. 8.5/10
Still searching for a fragrance that does mint as well as this did.
Uplifting, bright and woody! I love the earthy facet coming from that patchouli and vetiver combo. I can see the barbershop vibe here too. Very classy and unique. This is an absolute gem in my opinion. 8.75 out of 10 for me.
I am surprised this perfume is not marketed as unisex because it is so lovely and I absolutely enjoy this perfume in the high heat we are experiencing in my country, Nigeria at the moment. I blind bought it on sale and thought to myself I could always give it to my husband if it is too masculine. Oh no, I am keeping this for myself. I get the freshness from the mint and bergamot and the perfume is stronger than I expected for an EDT. I like how calm the patchouli is here and doesn’t overpower and I definitely get the vanilla in the dry down on my skin after a few hours. I wake up and use two spray of this perfume and it puts a smile on my face. I have over a 100 perfumes and this afternoon I reached for this again and added 2 spritz’s of O de Lancôme and it was a perfect combo in the humidity. Will I repurchase? Oh yes, especially since it is a discontinued item and will be difficult to find. So glad I took the plunge. The bottle is heavy glass and classy too. Sillage is moderate and longevity is very good for an EDT. Women, give this a trial if you find it and love scents like O de Lancôme or the EDC range of Hermes.
Beautiful, rich and elegant aromatic. This to me, is the equivalent of what a "barbershop" smell was to those who grew up loving the 80's powerhouses. This is a modern barbershop smell. Fresh, clean, rich and aromatic. Sneaker-wearing twenty-something year-olds, and people who use laughing emojis to "make fun" of people who enjoy this fragrance can go stock up on their bubble-gum ambroxan bombs.
Most definitely not for me, a 27-year-old man who wears t-shirts and sneakers most days. Roadster opens with a STRONG green aromatic smell, almost unwearable if you're under 50. It evolves a bit, but stays pretty much the same for the first two hours of wearing. It just doesn't work for me, and I suspect wouldn't as well for friends my age, regardless of what kind of clothes they are wearing. The mint, vetiver and patchouli combo somehow makes this scent smells like a spilled bottle of balm on a damp dirt. In the deep drydown, it smells soapy, sweeter and simply better. Even then, I can't imagine wearing that kind of scent profile in the year 2023 -- what outfit could I possibly rock to complement the scent? Please smell the thing if you think I'm exaggerating. Hard pass.
What an Experience!!
I can understand why this was discontinued. It's not a good fragrance. Its Aromatic, Green, and Woody all right, just as the top three accords listed at the top of this page indicate, but sometimes those accords come together nicely and sometimes not. They do not in Cartier Roadster. It's all a matter of personal tastes, and some call this a masterpiece (😂) while some are very much unimpressed. I love mint in fragrances, and have many. But in Roadster, the mint gets lost in a rather dry, unspectacular vetiver-patchouli combo. Just not good, although the drydown is more pleasant to me, with the aromatics becoming more enjoyable. Even Guerlain Homme is better to me and I'm not a big fan of that scent. And this is not an Aromatic Fougere in any way, shape, nor form. But Fragrantica listings are terrible in that way. Update: OK, OK, this Roadster gets better the further into the drydown it gets. I like leaving my initial impression to illustrate the changing nature of scent appreciation within one wear cycle and over longer periods of time.
Cartier Roadster EDT: Mathilde Laurent 2008 "Aromatic Fougere" Mint, Vetiver, Vanilla, Patchouli, French Labdanum,Bergamot (Source: Fragrantica of course--they rule!) I am the same same jackass that wrote the quite negative review on Cartier Declaration. I purchased the gift kit--full sized bottle with travel. It seems I was having a negative 'B.O.' reaction to the Cumin. I make Indian Food and Mexican food all the time and love cumin. Sometimes a bottle of dry cumin spice can be strong and kind of "murkier" than the cumin that I so love. So what are we driving at with this overexplanation?! Well. . . . I now love Cartier Declaration. I also bought Pasha and also Roadster EDT. Oh yeah, I just did a blind buy of Cartier Eau 'd Vetiver. It contains Mint, Licorice, and Vetiver--That's it! I am particular on Vetiver but I know they will get it just right. I now have total confidence in Cartier. So much confidence that I also know they will get that pesky Mint just right. Darn--so much talk of toothpaste and dental rinse when it comes to Mint. Uh. . . . right. It's official: I am a wild fanboy of Cartier. It fits my personality and can offer a spectrum of blends: Declarative--like Cartier Declaration, subtle like Roadster. I have great passion for Cartier. Their philosophy fits my approach to fragrance. Not since Dunhill Pursuit has the whole service panel of joy buttons been pushed all it once. Roadster is so different to me, at least. Somehow I smell a non-sweet(Labdanum?), and ever so slightly animalic quality though not in the notes list. I guess the Vetiver has some "root" and maybe the Patch is not run-of-the mill. I just love that funky Patch. Also, I think the Labdanum is making some kind of accord with the others. Also, there is a green, grassy/weedy or even slightly like hemp in the blend. It dries down pretty fast as it is an EDT after all. I think the Mint must be supersonic. Uh wha? I flunked the IQ test on the cap. I kept trying to open the very tip. Just grab the dome and gently rotate it. Duh. One point here that is most important to me. Mathilde Laurent may be one of the greatest perfumers of all time. So different, grounded in tradition yet so advanced . Not even I can find the words. I encourage everyone to re-visit Cartier or try it for the first time. I just was not up to speed and able to grasp Cartier Declaration. Wow. Wow. Wow. Daring, elegant, expansive yet having a certain amount of restraint. Pasha is similar in that you may not get it or dismiss it as something familiar. Maybe it is just that. I did not get Pasha at first and it evolved over time, temperatures, and body PH. I spray it all the time because the open is absolutely tops. I am now a Cartier boy with Dunhill supervising it all.
This fragrance's blend of patchouli, vanilla, and resinous notes is captivating. The addition to labdanum adds an exciting dimension that complements well with bergamot's invigorating aroma while mint leaves you feeling refreshed after every spritz!
I apologize in advance as Cartier Roadster was recently discontinued and now is rapidly becoming an expensive unicorn, but I do owe it a proper review as it truthfully is a modern gem of a fragrance. Earthy, rooty, grassy, leafy, with a prominent cool mint current, Roadster also features a muted vanilla that contrasts with the grassiness and vetiver, making it appear as a descendant of the classic Must de Cartier. I am forever fond of the green and sweet contrast in general; it also reminds me of a crisp green apple. As it dries down to labdanum and patchouli, the bright and dry are underlined and therein lies a depth that surprises my nose. It's also worth mentioning that there is, while not listed, a clove note I detect, and with that it reminds me of a classic men's woody aromatic, which is why Roadster would surely appear to the vintage fiends, even with its contemporary sheen. Roaster gets five stars from me.
Three terms to describe this Mathilde Laurent's creation: Minty, Green-grassy, Juicy citric-vanilla. Perfecf for daytime, fresh slightly sweet yet herbal and definitely lighten up your mood. I should say, Cartier is constantly release good quality fragrance in unique design bottle. Their scent is easy to accept but always with a twist.
First impression- Opening bitter herbal and not minty I think. Drydown more towards generic woody smell. I will update if I find any difference with many uses.
This is a classy, unique springtime fragrance. As others have said, it does not smell like toothpaste mint. It smells like you ripped a bunch of wild mint out of the ground. It is earthy and damp smelling to me, but still fresh. Good performance- lasts all day. Tasteful, not loud, safe for office or any environment with moderate application. My go to scent for April and May
Roadster is direct and compelling: minty, grassy, salty, citric, airy, musty, vanillic, musky. It's a modern fragrance for men with experience. How novel. Ozone, vanilla, and patchouli cleverly sustain the contemporary mint (and vetiver) while bergamot and cashmeran provide nods to classic masculine perfumery.
Ok, so I just got this and am immediately very intrigued and loving this fragrance. First thing to note is how amazing the presentation is with the bottle and cap design. What's weird is that this has a magnetic cap that nobody's talked about yet in any of the reviews I've seen, maybe because it's very lightly magnetic, it's not a strong magnet like the magnets on, for example, Dior Eau Sauvage or Sauvage lines, but that's because the cap also locks into place and doesn't work the same way traditional magnetic caps do. Cap is designed to look like the crown on Cartier's Roadster watches and just looks really elegant. Overall 10/10 bottle design, it's also a really nice heavy bottle, Cartier always knocks their bottle designs out of the park and I've noticed that watch/jewelry designer houses (Cartier, Bvlgari and Van Cleef & Arpels namely) have some of the most gorgeous bottle designs. This scent is an immediate love. I haven't determined the longevity, sillage or anything like that but this is definitely a more masculine release that you can wear year round in my climate here in Minnesota. It has this photorealistic mint note that's absolutely my favorite of any mint note I've smelled in any fragrance. Absolutely masterful work with the way this one smells. If this has as good of longevity as I suspect it will have and continues to project like I'm feeling it most likely will, then this is going to the top of my all time favorite designer fragrances. I'm going to thoroughly enjoy wearing this one in the spring. I'll probably pop back in here sometime in the next year to give a real review of this and give a more defined take, but I'm very excited about this one to the point where I had to at least put these initial impressions out and hopefully others can get their hands on this at a halfway decent price. For a discontinued gem, this is still available for reasonably cheap and that's why I rated this as a "good" value, I actually think this is a fantastic value for having been discontinued and it's amazing that this probably used to go for around $30-35 just a few years ago or so. Get it though, especially if you like mint. Think expensive minty aftershave and shaving cream, that's what this smells like.
The true Kriptomint. Patchouli and mint with hints of vanilla in the drydown. Great masculine, upscaled and one of the best mint based scents.
It was a good idea to do a modern version of an old-fashioned woody-aromatic. Roadster is a worthy effort and it smells good (the mint/moss/patchouli mix is especially pleasant). It's a shame it disappeared from Cartier site because Santos and Pasha are both less interesting (and less everything else, tbh). As long as Cartier makes L'Envol and Declaration all is forgiven.
A very unique mint smell that is distinct. A good one for a niche fragrance. I don't think females will like it much because it's very loud!
