the Alchemy of a Perfume. Allure Eau de Parfum de Chanel 1999 by Jacques Polge. the way this perfume suffuses itself onto the 'User' is magical. all the mentioned notes are discernable, specially in the beginning. there is a quasi-sour Draw towards the Acidity of the Soft Fruits (Peach, which I can always smell but also the Bergamot and Mandarin Orange) and when this juiciness and fruitiness mingles with an upfront Vanilla and already the summoning of Flowers is there it is almost an aching Beauty incorporated in what so volatile is. this is the Sophisticated Chicness of Chanel. while there are either a lot of Flowers blended within this Classic Perfume they are approaching each in their own Floral Majesty. first you smell Peach and Vanilla. I have the feeling Flowers which go forth seamlessly out of that Troposphere are the Magnolia, Jasmine, Rose & Peony, all as lovely as present. the Orange Blossom is here to support the Citruses and a certain Fresh Fruitiness is spiralling in the wave of the beginning. a Lotus is so demure a Flower. it is not the Blue Lotus but the watery, Bambou-like, Reed-like Flower. Woody Support comes from Cedar and Vetiver. this is for this perfume as also for either Chanel Perfume essential. within this perfume so virtuosely blended we find an affirmation of Chanellissime as also a new Classicisme and a rather Clean while also Satiated signature. yet the perfume stays within Ladylike boundaries and within the mannerisms of Good Taste and definitely a Chic and Sure Affectuation. this perfume has proven to be a Classic while retro-actively defining the Decade of the 1990s as it at the same time detracts itself from either Classification and defines the Boundaries herself by overflooding them.

It's such a classic, so it might seem basic, but it's truly such a beautiful combination. The sweetness with the creaminess and citrus and flowers, it's all beautifully blended. It is a mature fragrance, but in such an effortless, soft and light way.

Love in a bottle, always!!!

Reminds me a lot of Dior Dune. Allure is a lot more perfumy with a lot of flower thrown in while Dune is a lot more relax and stay more linear on the vanillic ambery thread. They are the same person but Dune is on a cruise, in sandals, resort wears with no make up while Allure is dressed up, heavy make up, going out for dinner in an upscale restaurant.

yes I started with Allure from 1999. the edt already was marvelous. I remember this new launch got a prevalent gift: a booklet (like Gabrielle, but much more substantial) , in which Jacques Polge explained how ingenuous the composition of this perfume was. it didn't followed a scent note pyramid but rather was a 'spectral perfume' with which all the notes at once came free. (like Gabrielle.) this specific feature makes it still mysterious to precisely detect the notes from each other. and it added, once again, at a new 'chanelissime', powdery of course, with rose and jasmin, with not: sandelwood but with cedar and vetiver lending the perfume a dry, solid base. especially peach and vanilla were inseparable. yet I clearly smell the rose whereas others seem to not detect so in the general voting. I remember the chicness this perfume bestowed upon us. now I am wearing it for a few days and the rememberance to that (beatifully concipiated) booklet came above. at night I smell my wrist and it is yes, an 'even' perfume with, if you keep smelling, a reveiling of coming and going ingredients. indeed it makes you think about Coco Mademoiselle. and the Allure Sensuelle added some 'Coconess' to this overall, classic perfume. I also see reminiscences with No 5. but in its own, I am wearing the edp now but also had the perfume. this 'lady' distincts itself for her timeless elegance and her ability to lend chanelissime to every woman.

I always appreciated this perfume but my mom thinks I am too young for it (I am almost 40 🤣), but somehow she is right. It is very vintage, in a good way. Floral, clean, elegant, sophisticated, mature.

I think this is my second review, couldn’t help it though. If you want the quintessential elegant, clean, luxurious fragrance, look no further. It’s thick, oily vanilla with a dazzle of sour citrus and fragrant bergamot in a big, fluffy cloud of powder. With a Chanel doily in it. Very beautiful and elegant.

suprisingly i've been using this scen for a while back in college and considered it my signature scen back in 2000's. now, i'm afraid that in the era of gourmands and sweets this is just a typical vanilla spray. no depth, no layering, no development. good scent for work, suitable for any occasion, because cmon it's chanel and chanel doesn't go wrong with it's fragrance. but it's not a wow anymore. just a good perfume, with nothing to declare.

This is Spring in a bottle. Creamy, citrusy florals with a powdery vanilla. Elegant and refined. I think of Grace Kelly when I wear this.

(Revisiting my old bottles) This is one of my favorite Chanels because there's something special and cocooning about it. I don't usually consider myself a fruity or even peach person, but the peach here is so soft and smooth that... it's still one of those that gets a wow out of me every single time I wear it. What am I getting? A sensual and indolic jasmine with floral supporters, a peach that brings that Barbie doll head feeling (I love that), an airy and well-balanced vanilla, and something silky underneath that I can't quite name... truly hidden, because whatever creates that "silk" in this formula must have come together from maybe millions of possible combinations. That Chanel DNA is instantly recognisable. My initial reaction when I smelt this was that it reminded me a little bit of Chanel No 5, but a much more wearable and less vintage version. It's the kind of perfume you wear when you want to be taken seriously. It smells like a woman that knows her worth.

A perfect choice if you enjoy creamy scents. It’s very inoffensive and easy to wear, yet the longevity is quite impressive. To my nose, it strongly reminds me of the scent of cosmetics from the 1990s and that understated ‘quiet luxury’ vibe.

The citrus and floral notes in the opening are sharp and briefly unappealing to my nose. However, the dry down is one of the best perfumes I've ever had the pleasure of smelling! It's such a bewitching, complex vanilla best suited for confident individuals. Allure is not the least bit cutesy or meek. It's poised and quite alluring, just like the name implies. ;) This one will always be in my collection.

I remembered smelling this as a teenager in the 90's in those magazine strips, remembered how much I liked it, and took a chance and bought a bottle without smelling the reformulation. I'm so glad I did, because this has become one of my favorite fragrances. On me, my skin really amps up the citrus (I could have sworn I smelled lemon + grapefruit, but I guess it's just the mandarin + bergamot) and the peach and florals aren't really noticeable, but work with the other notes to provide the "chanel DNA" where I don't notice them individually, but they add to the complexity of the scent. It's definitely 90's- not a loud powerhouse of the decades that came before, but a little more minimalist, airier, and fresher. It smells like if you took Coco Mademoiselle, dialed down the florals and mixed one part of what's left with three parts of CK One. It's classy and really nice. Though it doesn't bear much similarity to the perfumes of today, I don't feel that it is really dated or too "mature" ( though I am in my mid 40's, so take that as you will).

This is what a masterpiece smells like. I was worried because white florals make me nauseous if it’s too much or under high temp. I’m so happy that the rose and vanilla shut it down a little immediately my nose tries to pick so much of it. I don’t like citrus note but I appreciate its entrance immediately I spritz. I can pick up the vetiver upon dry down. I like the perfume a lot.

I’m not sure why I didn’t have this fragrance in my collection! I recently purchased and I reach for it almost every day. The citrus and floral combinations are fresh and beautifully grounded with the soft vanilla.

Allure is a perfume of perfection that I could wear everyday of my life as my signature perfume. But I do not. Because it is excellant and I only wear it when I feel excellant... (Chanel should pay me for this comment :)

Timeless. Wearing this you will feel- put together during the day but it will captivate others so be careful! At night confident and hard to figure out. First review of my signature scent. Go for the EDP. The EDT doesn’t do this justice. Complex and extremely well blended, it is difficult to make out individual notes. Alluring as the name suggests. It wraps and envelops the wearer. Signature scent. You embody this, you wear this for you. Others happen to be drawn in. It is the polar opposite of announcing loudly but without question makes its presence known. Pure sophistication but not mature or dated. Like Greco-Roman architecture it can’t be improved upon. Powdery, woody and soft spicy. There is some peach at the top but it’s more floral than fruity overall. Stays linear. Perfect for day or night, suited mainly to cool weather. Excellent projection. Lasts for days on clothes. In summary- this has duality- 90s classic yet timeless/ runs cool because of the powdery/ woody notes side by side with warm vanilla and hints of sweetness/ alluring during the day yet reserved/ heady at night…Enigmatic.🧡🤎❔🔥🪵🪻🍨

Allure's opening is fresh and heady citrus: it is sparkling and bright. As it dries, I can smell peach, a sweet peach that ripened under the Mediterranean sun. I then smell a subtle vanilla note which mixes beautifully with the white flowers and gives the perfume an elegant creaminess. Allure is beautifully Chanel: elegant, classic, a little linear but still incredibly relevant and enjoyable. It makes me think of gold jewelry 🍑🍊🍦✨️🤍

This is what elegant smells like to me. Will be purchasing this fragrance forever, it smells soft and luxurious and I wear this both day and night, any season. It’s a classic but I dont feel like it gets the hype it deserves. 10/10

Just for reference, the bottle I am reviewing here is from the year 2008, according to the batch code. I was lucky enough to have found it at the back of my mom‘s cosmetics cabinet and she let me have it. I think that Allure is an apt name for this gorgeous fragrance because there is indeed something alluring and intriguing about it. The white flowers are a tiny bit indolic, just enough to remind us that the fragrance‘s roots are in the 90s. The flowers are nicely complemented by the sweeter fruit and vanilla notes. Woody and ambery accords ground the composition and bring warmth. I feel that the fragrance is rather linear and very potent. In the beginning, I made the mistake of overspraying and I therefore understand that it could be headache-inducing for some. I also realized that I appreciate Allure the most when I alternate it with other fragrances because there is something melancholic and precious about it that does not fit every occasion. In my opinion, it is best worn on a cold and foggy fall day, going for a walk in nature.

A delicate fragrance with an aura of quiet luxury, typical of Chanel's feminine, classic elegance. With great potential to be a statement scent, though softer than Chanel No. 5. A beautiful, smooth, radiant, and warm composition. Charming, timeless beauty.

Allure EDP is a 90s-born Chanel that wraps sparkling mandarin and peachy florals in a soft vanilla-amber base, giving a clean, creamy, “expensive skin” aura that is elegant rather than loud.

I like this perfume. It is very powdery and white floral to me. Tbh, it just smells jasmine to me. A very heavy jasmine little bit of mixed with powder. I dont have this but i always recognize this scent on people and I always think 'aw so cute and fresh' It reminds me a girl who wears a light brown long fur and a mini laced white dress in it. hehe

I think it's very feminine and elegant. To my nose, it doesn't really have a proper pyramid, as I don't perceive it evolving much on the skin, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I actually perceive it as consistent with its blending of notes as far as it lasts on me. It's mainly a honeyed peach combined with white flowers; I can't detect much vanilla, as it is very subtle here. The longevity is good, not extreme but still solid. It definitely has the vibes of the 1990s, but that's a plus to me - who doesn't enjoy a throwback to the years of their childhood?

Woody-sweet and floral. It is a sandalwood scent, yet it is missing here in the notes. Very similar to the eau de toilette which has vetiver note more pronounced and is more floral. I feel peach here, woods and sweetness of the floral notes. I think the edt projects better and this is closer to my skin. Very elegant, rich and refined. After a couple of hours it is peachy-woody with hints of vanilla and jasmine. Less sharp and floral than the edt which I still prefer. Fruitier. But both are stunning. Perfect for autumn but also for spring, should be universal weather-wise.

I've always loved this magnificent fragrance. A favorite among favorites. Elegant, feminine, warm, enveloping. My signature scent. Divine.

Such a floral, soft, pure beauty. Not something a younger girl wears, it feels very feminine and mature. Its projection is pretty good too, when I walked into work with it on I had multiple coworkers ask me what I was wearing. Longevity is okay! I wore it for about 4-5 hours, came home to my family telling me I still smelt like it! Upon first application it smells very green and spicy on me- I smell a lot of rose too. About 3-4 hours later it is very musky, but in a good way. It's very woodsy and yet still retains the rose note. It still smells very womanly but with a more complex read. On me it never really read as a gourmand, even with the vanilla. It really does smell to me like walking through a moonlit garden full of roses, jasmine, peonies. Really recommend if that is something you like!!

"Have fun!" he shouts, half out the door. You sit on the couch and turn on your PS2. A comforting warm citrus uplift lilts through the air as you run to the kitchen to drink your first of four sodas. You don't know it yet, but this memory will stay with you for the rest of life.

A scent like a whispered promise — soft, creamy, and eternally graceful. It lingers gently, never loud, always tender, like a memory you never want to fade. Really special for me.
