To be honest, yes, it does remind me of a pink drugstore antiperspirant. But there's still something tender and gentle about it that I really appreciate. There's spice, but it's powdery, flowery and feminine. Think about early spring in Paris.
Criminally underrated. One of Diptyque’s most iconic fragrances. Some of the criticism is that it’s “too complex,” or it’s trying to do “too much” or it’s got an “identity crisis.” Those sound more like academic arguments than helpful reviews of the perfume. In real life, it’s such a perfect marriage of notes: fresh green with soft spicy warmth. It’s like they took the best of the 70s and put it in a beautiful bottle. Go to the nearest Diptyque counter and try this.
I first tried this scent on a card at the Diptyque store that I later stashed in my passport holder. For years, every time I reached for my passport, I was treated to an intoxicating little whiff of spicy, woody mystery. Almost like a window briefly opened to a much more colourful, unknowable little world. Last year, I gave in to temptation and ordered a full bottle without ever testing it on my skin. As it turns out, this scent works very poorly with my body chemistry. The dry-down is sour and borderline putrid, so I shelved the bottle for a solid year. Recently, though, I've been spraying it into the air and walking through it. This has worked beautifully. Because the scent is incredibly strong (it lasted for years on a card), it clings to my hair and clothing all day long and lets the top notes shine for longer. As a bonus, the two sprays I walk through make my bedroom smell so cozy. I really don't know how some people are spraying multiple spritzes directly onto their skin- I love this scent, but it can become very overwhelming. As a favour to the general public, please do not douse yourself with this and then enter an enclosed space.
This is the only perfume I always ask myself why I bought, and to this day I don't know why. It's strange and perplexing, and I expect many people will like it, but it and I have never gotten along.
All it makes me think is Etiquet women's antitranspirant deodorant. An american cream for armpits. Sorry.
Picture this: An 80 year old grandmother decides to spend the afternoon outside on her front porch reading an old book as her son fuels up the farm equipment a few meters away. It's quite warm and humid out, and the mosquitoes are very much present, so she spritzes herself with a decent layer of bug spray. She then settles into her worn upholstered porch chair and begins reading. That's what this smells like. Unfortunately for me, not in a good way :)
Definitely seasonal but its heady in a way that reminds me of car leather
I used to wear it a lot and then I got tired …then after 5 years the juice became orange color no kidding ! And the Fragance is marvelous ! Just don’t over spray it 3 applications and that’s it !! Magic Rose , tuberose cinnamon clove etc a cocktail for the night
If you are expecting this to be the same scent as the scent their booklet was scented - it isn't. They spray the booklet with the home fragrance version, not the body fragrance one. I was very disappointed when I bought this edt thinking it was gonna be anything like the room spray. :(
I wanted to love 34 Boulevard Saint Germain EDT, especially as someone who genuinely enjoys Diptyque. It is undeniably complex: herbaceous, spiced, aromatic, and far from linear. I can appreciate the craftsmanship, but appreciation is about as far as it goes. The opening was rough on my skin. For the first thirty minutes, I got something sharp and licorice-like. Maybe absinthe or anise? And it felt medicinal, crowded, and dated. Thankfully, the drydown is much better. After about an hour, it softens into something nicer and more wearable, though not especially memorable or beautiful to me. Part of my disappointment may be expectation. I was hoping for something closer to the 34 candle, which I think is stunning. The room spray is also wayyyyyyyy better than this EDT. In home fragrance form, 34 feels rich, elegant, and atmospheric. On skin, the EDT feels less magical and more difficult. I understand why some people might find it interesting, but complexity alone does not make something beautiful. This is not the worst fragrance I’ve smelled, and the drydown does redeem it somewhat, but I would not call it “hauntingly beautiful” or a compliment-getter. For me, 34 EDT is a scent I respect more than I enjoy. I would not repurchase it, and I do not see myself reaching for it often. I have a sample of the EDP coming, and I hope that version gets closer to what I love about the candle and room spray.
A good oriental chypre, a pleasant herbal blend with a good wallop of vetiver and cinnamon. Halfway in-between a barbershop fougere and a slavic rolled poppy cake, making it clean, herbal and slightly powdery, but also quite warm and spicy. I get the orris and cinnamon a lot. It plays it pretty safe and on the warmer/spicier side of things as far as the composition goes, reminding me of the smell of Christmas with sweet baked goods in the air mixing with the scent of a fir forest. Very easy to love and wear. An easy yes in my book, I'd happily wear this year-round, minus perhaps in the peak heat of summer.
In a way it feels wrong to review this because I haven't smelled the perfume in itself but I got a notebook that is perfumed with this scent so I would say I am qualified to comment on what I smelled. When I opened my Diptyque package I was hit with this amazing citrusy smell and immediatly thought "OMG what is that I need it" I later realized that it was the perfumed notebook with some text in it saying which perfume you are smelling. I like it a lot. It is quite strong (everything in the package smells like this perfume rn xD) but I still like it a lot. If I had the perfume I would use it sparingly for when I want to feel bougy.
There’s a lot going on here but feels like a worthy bustling Parisian nod to the house. Complex, warm, vintage; would make for a study winter fragrance.
It's very good but somebody below correctly pointed out that something in it evokes a sense of dustiness. Don't know what's causing it but it's definitely there. Doesn't ruin it but it is a factor to consider.
Talk about a boutique! The imagery on this cologne is perfect, with a strong spicy opening, and a dry down that reminds me of sitting on a Parisian street corner, watching the world go by.
Greetings, to comment, the smell of cloves, cinnamon is predominant, but I can say that I like it in general.
Quite underrated for the quality it has. An everlasting autumn beauty.
I absolutely love the lotion but this is just coconut to me and I hate the smell of coconut
Dipytique 34 Boulevard Saint Germain (2011) - dipytique store - My first fragrance love from the house of Dipytique developed by the late #olivierpescheux that had an interesting story. Using fragrance analysis technology inside the store, they mapped out the molecules that made its distinctive smell and created a perfume everyone could wear. The smell? Spicy cloves and cinnamon up top mixed with berries and crushed leaves. The heart is where it shines by showcasing the florals the house is known to sell - Jasmine, Tuberose, Rose, and Iris. Powdery, earthy yet fresh. Dries down to a woody and chypre-like base.
This is the most surprising perfume for me. I've used Diptyque for years ,but never this one. Now, reading some of the comments below, this is exactly how I felt about it until very recently- heavy, masculine, petrol...etc. Anyway, I bought it second hand last summer but unfortunately I hated it. However, I never had or made a difference between summer and winter perfumes, if I like it, I wear it all the time. And since I hated 34 I haven't used it again. Until this Christmas, I took it with me to a much colder climate than UK. What can I say :OMG!!! In a freezing temperature this perfume changes completely. The petrol smell disappears , masculinity too. Instead it turns very feminine, flower like ,especially in the beginning (woods come later)and somehow reminds me of Tiempe Passate. Now I absolutely love it, unfortunately that's only in the winter.
The review of Eau de Cornichon nails it. Nothing to add.
Incredibly powerful cloves note. I unfortunately don't do cloves ( I sold my Xerjoff's Dolce Amalfi, I didn't liek Robert Piguet's spicy perfumes or Serge Luten's Noire, etc, even sold my Tom Ford's Lily). The cloves notes for me overpowers all other notes and just stands outs so much that I can't smell anything else around me. I just think it's overall not for me. This is a very masculine perfume though and has an incredibly strong projection!
The opening is vegetal and a little minty. It's so airy but also a tiny bit dusty. The drydown warms up with some polished wood and a hint of spice. Like stepping into the lobby of an old, expensive, and well loved hotel, but all the windows have been thrown open for spring cleaning. It's so well blended that it's hard to put my finger on any single distinguishable note, although I definitely catch a mentholated eucalyptus edge all the way through. Definitely has a vintage old-school perfume feel but airy enough to be modern. Unfortunately with long wear the eucalyptus plus woodiness started to build and build and give me aftershave vibes, which is more masculine than I would like.
I absolutely love this! It is unique, it is not old world, it is Sophisticated, unique and old money! This is for those who actually have a perfume collection and I’m not referring to main stream! As a woman, I love it. This smells like a strong, classy lady who has a strong yet warm aura. It’s one of my favorites!
A Diptyque gift with purchase was a scented notebook which I could not stop smelling. I emailed and was told it was 34 Boulevard Saint Germain. The first spray of his perfect hit me with a lot of woody and spicy notes which I did not like. The dry down however is a lovely green scent, it’s almost quite a fresh fragrance. However it is so weak, no matter what I do. Such a disappointment!
Thank god I didn't blind buy this one! It's very masculine and smells like petrol. I had to take shower as it was suffocating and gave me a headache 😖
La Nuit de l'homme with superior ingredients.
First of all, this definitely isn't your typical Dyptique. This is a complex, abstract, "everything but the kitchen sink" modern chypre kinda thing that works surprisingly well. If I had to sum it up, I'd say that it vaguely smells like an expensive, fruity, floral scented candle, which, paradoxically, isn't all that shocking considering it's still a Dyptique. It has an old school quality that stems from its structure, it doesn't put a single note at the forefront, instead it's an amalgamation of a slightly ridiculous amount of notes (at least by modern standards), and it has a distinct 3 stage drydown of top, heart and base. It transitions quite a bit throughout the wear, just like the great classics of yesteryear, and yet, it doesn't actually smell like something from the 20th century. It's ultimately a modern scent that adheres to modern sensibilities, it's shiny and transparent, you won't find massive aldehydes, nor strong powdery florals, oakmoss, civet, nor anything remotely animalic for that matter, it's very mass appealing and utterly inoffensive, yet it's not boring, it's cozy, soulful, slightly lived in and undeniably charming. It's very pleasant as a whole, but the real beauty is in the details, and how easily you can actually deconstruct it and smell each individual note, starting from the juicy, rejuvenating top notes of black currant, fig and spices, the floral bouquet in the middle, and the waxy, resinous, yet slightly green base. In other words, it's just a damn good perfume. You should try it.
Wry strong masculine scent, sickly sweet in a medicinal way, leathery, musky, and very incense forward which is probably the clove and cinnamon. It makes me feel vaguely ill, as if I’ve stepped into an office I shouldn’t be in and I’m snooping but getting a bad feeling that I need to get out of there. Unsexy, unsettling.
I heard that this scent was supposed to be created by throwing in literally all the notes of every other Diptyque scent, or at least creating that impression. It smells exactly like that, with no artfulness or focus. There is something plasticky about this that reminds me of a potpourri candle. I have tried to like this but it smells nothing like other Diptyque scents I love which are all natural-smelling (L'eau de Neroli, Tam Dao, L'eau Papier, Do Son, etc.)
