red door is SUPER fragrant, not subtle at all and beams outward from whereever it is put, and thank goodness for it because it smells lovely. it's warm and sparkly and sweet, like a fancy soap mixed into a pot of honey. wraps around the air completely. it's one of my mom's church perfumes! it still smells the same as it did 10, even 15 years ago (to me). i'm so fond of it and always will be!!
In my primary school in Australia, in the late 90s/early 2000s, we had this amazing librarian. She was that old-school yet eccentric type who, in the late 90s/early 2000s, still wore insane, kitschy giant rhinestone earrings and those theatrical New Romantic-style 80s dresses with the huge puffy shoulder pads. She kept a massive dress-up chest in the library full of garish, flamboyant dresses and sequinned/diamante 80s-era fun things for us kids to try on for school plays. She hung brightly colored paper streamers, crisscrossing all over the library like technicolor jungle vines amongst the stacks of Goosebumps, Paul Jennings, The Rainbow Fish, Where’s Wally, Deltora, Possum Magic etc, which all clashed with the rows and rows of coloured iMac G3's (anyone remember playing that Bugdom game haha?) Anyway, point is, one of my very first distinctive olfactive memories is the extremely strong perfume she constantly wore which radiated throughout the ice cold air conditioned library. In the middle of a hot, humid Aussie summer, you’d step into the air-conditioned library and be met with this intense punch of women’s perfume. For years, I have not known what that fragrance was. Smelled Red Door today. Wow, it’s unmistakably this exact scent. Nostalgia overload. In no way am I saying a younger person couldn’t wear this, but yeah, this is 100% “eccentric primary school librarian from the early 2000s” in a bottle haha.
I love elizabeth arden fragrances, they are affordable, elegant and timeless. White tea is superb. This smells like burnt rubber to me, I was shocked, I find it very offensive and I don't smell any of the listed notes. Well, noses and tastes differ.
I have the mini version and it's a simple red cap with a gold line. Idk what fruit scents people are getting but it's very powdery old lady to me. Not bad just not something I ever go for on the shelf honestly.
This is sweet. My childhood doesn’t remember red door smelling like this. Like jammy flowers
I’ve always appreciated Elizabeth Arden’s perfumes, but something about red door is unsettling I don’t know what note makes it slightly bitter, I don’t like the bittery note and has a prominent jasmine sambac note, the opening is very strong but as it dries out it kinda loses a little bit of it’s strong overpowering notes, very impressive for an edt. beautiful bottle design tbh and has great sillage, not for me. oh my god. I was so wrong about this perfume, right after dry down this turns so beautiful and light and powdery, I haven’t smelled anything like her before, I think it was because the weather was too hot when I first sprayed it, literally sweet florals and stylish classy woman vibes, beautiful scent trail btw, Elizabeth Arden was never wrong about describing this perfume as glamorous and classic.
It smells like less heavy version of organza by givenchy,or maybe its bc of I have the vintage miniature version of this parfume
@kiwi555 is right they candied the florals in the Red Door reformulations... That candied smell is NOT in ANY of my vintage bottles. Just an FYI for anyone who cares
I know it's not listed, but I definitely smell linden. Very pretty.
99% similar to beautiful by estee lauder. sweet honey.
Strong candied florals with aromatic spicy resin. Heliotropic aromatics with yellow floral and over-ripe fruit. Extreme vintage quality that requires an acquired taste. Could be too musty and aromatic for some.
idk how i randomly found this in my room as a teen but its the exact smell of my aunt so i love it. she has worn it my whole life basically (im 23). its beautiful, strong, sexy, powerful (both in the strength of its sillage as well as the vibe it gives as a scent). my nose sensitive dad and sister hate it whenever i spray tho bc even if i do one spritz, they smell it thru the whole house. i personally love it even tho i associate w my aunt and i know its an "old, mature" scent but id def wear it if i was going to some fancy date night place
I'm 23 and this is one of the only fragrances of mine I get regular compliments on. I adore this fragrance.
Old lady scent, got this for a relative and it's not bad for an older person. Just don't wear this if you know how to use a touchscreen.
I enjoy more mature fragrances, this is coming from someone who enjoys White Diamonds. NOT a safe blind buy at all. I enjoy it very rarely because a woman in my youth that was important to me wore it. It's very nostalgic, but I've barely made a dent in the bottle. Maybe 7 total sprays. Definitely go somewhere to sample first before committing.
straight up fancy old toilet
smells like a rich older lady that doesn't like patchouli. also is pretty strong
I tried this one because of the reviews raving about it and I deeply regretted it after buying. I LOVE Elizabeth Taylor’s White Diamonds, and others like it besides others considering it an “old lady” smell, but I love them. Red Door is an old lady smell to the max. It didn’t sit right with me and just bothered my nose. I’m just glad I was able to return it.
Keywords: springtime, tulips, horsehair sun hats, mature conversation, Sunday brunch (old money) Makes me think of Kentucky Derby
This fragrance is pure comfort to me...reminds me of simpler times...reminds me of my Granny, who was my absolute best friend. I lost her 27 years ago when I was 16. I miss her every day. I love to wear this fragrance to bed and turn on the golden girls...makes me feel cozy and safe ☺️
I was walking around the house looking for a vase of flowers and it turned out my nana was just wearing Red Door, winner in my book
TLDR: Might have grandma vibes but I don’t care. 8/10. ❤️ I actually had no idea until recently that this fragrance was associated with grandmas… But I shouldn’t be surprised, considering my grandmother has iconically wore this for years to the point her clothes STILL smell of it. Despite all, I've grown attached to it. I honestly can't name off any particular notes, it seems like a melting pot of several. It's powdery, mature, classy, and very unique. The longevity of this stuff is insane, in my experience, and it is super easy to spray too much! Can quickly become overwhelming at that point. With the right balance, though, it wears fantastically on me.
This is making me me suspect my nose is broken, i smell nothing but sambac and it seems soooo granmda, bought it for my perfume avid friend for her birthday and felt like a major mistake
This is a vintage classic. The style of this and others of this time are really very different than what’s created more recently. I can see why some don’t prefer this but I love it. Perfumes of this era have like 20 notes… it’s not straightforward… it’s a complex fragrance yet so familiar. It’s a balance of warm, sweet, powdery floral sophistication.
It's classy, no doubt. I am just not sure if it's me; I feel like it lacks something I can't quite describe. I will retest, though. I just received it yesterday, and it was ice cold, so it could be that. As of now, I look at it as Moon Dance's younger, drunken sister. Moon Dance is thick and opulent, Red Door has something medicinal in the background that reminds me of being sick when I was little, but I digress...I will retest.
I've had one of these in my collection since I was 16 years old. I just liked it and never considered some people would look down on it, calling it "old" when it's just a good floral. It's classic for a reason. There's nothing wrong with femininity, florals, or powdery perfumes. It's still good years later.
I don't know what's to dislike about this perfume? I've spent a few years living with my Aunty in the 90s, and whenever she wore this, I enjoyed smelling it a lot! I remember it smelling like honey. And it was perfect for her because she was quite glamorous, always with her red lipstick, hair slicked back wearing a polka dot dress and heels. The smell of pleasant memories.
kind of reminds me of a cheaper smelling version of gucci flora jasmine, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. i dont see myself wearing it but there is a mature elegance to it. like something an older woman would wear to a party or fancy restaurant.
When I say vintage powerhouse I mean vintage powerhouse this powdery and gorgeous perfume is a Classy Christmas Eve in a bottle
I’ve had Red Door for two months, and I love exploring perfumes that spark a bit of controversy. I often buy them blindly, expecting the worst - and I’m always pleasantly surprised when they turn out differently. Red Door is simply beautiful: intensely floral and captivating. Its notes are rich and well-blended, making it hard to pick them apart, yet the overall effect is elegant and harmonious. For some reason, it also reminds me a little of baby products - perhaps because of its comforting, soapy touch, almost like a delicate shampoo. The plum note is exquisite; whenever a fragrance includes plum, I am immediately drawn to it. Violet adds a soft, powdery nuance, while rose and carnation dominate, creating a clean, floral bouquet. I don’t really notice the tuberose, but the overall floral impression is stunning. I haven’t worn it every day, because I feel it shines best on cozy moments with friends but each time I do wear it, I feel genuinely happy. I know Red Door isn’t loved by everyone, but perfume is deeply personal, and I adore having it in my collection.
