This to me smells like the lobby of a hotel, it’s not bad but I don’t think I could ever wear this and enjoy it.
Super weak skin scent and at that price point whats even the point.
Fresh sparkling citrus with a gin and tonic vibe. As it settles, the texture becomes a little creamier. I pick up some cardamom and pepper in the background, but the overall impression is a beverage-like scent. Think GT, but a little thicker and sweeter. I like it quite a bit.
sells amazing. Lasts 30 min
One of my favorite fresh citrus scents for hot weather
Today’s review marks my official introduction to the house of Frapin, a historic French name uniquely positioned at the intersection of artisanal distillation and luxury niche perfumery. Celebrated primarily for their multi generational heritage in producing world class cognacs, this family owned estate has brilliantly translated their liquid blending expertise into the olfactory realm, utilizing high quality raw materials to craft deeply narrative fragrances. The structural blueprint for this specific release, L'Humaniste, hints at an exceptionally crisp, luminous, and refined composition, audaciously pairing zesty Amalfi lemon with a highly distinct combination of juniper berries and a dedicated gin accord. This creation showcases a fascinating philosophy that mirrors the complex textures of premium mixology, aiming to deliver an ultra sophisticated, effervescent cocktail experience that favors crystalline transparency and aromatic cooling facets over dense, heavy sweetness. Approaching my very first experience with this house, the question remains whether L'Humaniste can deliver the transportive realism and exceptional blending required to establish Frapin as a mandatory standout on my radar, or if its airy, alcoholic structure will simply evaporate without leaving a lasting impression. Let’s see if this fragrance stands as an absolute masterpiece of refreshing liquid art or if it is merely a fleeting whisper of a high end beverage. Opening The opening is citrusy, aromatic, and sweet. The primary notes I get are Amalfi lemon, gin, juniper berry, and tonka bean, with the lemon and gin leading the introduction. The lemon stands proudly at the forefront of the fragrance as a vibrant, sun drenched burst of tart citrus packed with intensely rindy and juicy undertones, instantly drawing a strong similarity to the refined lemon notes utilized in Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche and Xerjoff Uden. Running perfectly alongside this citrus, the gin presents as a cool, boozy, and aromatic accord that feels exceptionally crisp and transparent, working in complete tandem with the lemon to successfully create the realistic illusion of a refreshing cocktail. The juniper berry plays a vital supporting role here, tying directly into the gin with a cold, aromatic, and botanical profile that is beautifully nuanced with subtle piney undertones. Lastly, the tonka bean resides quietly in the background, giving the entire initial blast a comfortably warm and slightly vanillic glow. The result is an opening that immediately reminds me of the beautifully bright, citrusy, and sweet theme found in Allure Homme Edition Blanche and Uden. Dry Down The dry down remains aromatic, woody, and citrusy. The primary notes I get are still gin, juniper berry, Amalfi lemon, and tonka bean, but the structural balance has inverted to leave the gin and juniper berry as the most prominent notes leading the composition. The gin moves confidently into the absolute lead position during the dry down, delivering a boosted dose of that signature crisp, aromatic, and boozy accord. This boozy texture is further bolstered by the icy, piney, and woody aromatics surging from the juniper berry. Meanwhile, the lemon has taken the juniper berry's previous place as a supporting note, shifting its character to become noticeably rounder, softer, and more mellow than the sharp citrus blast it displayed initially. Lastly, the tonka bean continues to wrap the entire fragrance in a warm, sweet, and vanillic embrace, though its presence is far more subtle and blended than it was in the opening hours. The result is a dry down that completely leaves behind its initial similarities to Allure Homme Edition Blanche, settling into a texture that is surprisingly much closer to the frozen feeling of an iced cocktail than the opening itself. Performance The initial projection within the first hour of wear is exceptionally strong, pushing out with enough raw power that it can easily fill a small room. The sillage perfectly matches this grand opening, casting a heavy yet brilliantly bright and airy scent trail in the wearer's wake. After about three to four hours on skin, the projection draws back slightly, hovering at a still respectable five to six feet while the scent trail lightens up but remains easily noticeable to those around you. By the seven to eight hour mark, the composition has already fully transitioned into a faint skin scent, ultimately suggesting a total effective wear time of around five to six hours before requiring a reapplication. When to Wear L'Humaniste is a definitive spring and summer fragrance that is best suited for daytime wear. Its incredibly bright, vibrant, and uplifting nature provides immense versatility, meaning it can be worn casually for relaxed daytime activities, formatted as an elegant choice for formal summer gatherings, or utilized as an exceptionally clean and polished office fragrance. However, I would personally choose to pass on wearing it for special evening occasions or close encounter date nights, where a much deeper, warmer, or more atmospheric profile would be far more fitting. Blind Buy I would not consider L'Humaniste to be a safe blind buy for the average collector. Alcoholic or boozy notes in perfumery can inherently be very polarizing elements, and a heavy gin profile is certainly no exception to that rule. Whereas some wearers will find its specific texture to be wonderfully crisp, clean, and refreshing, others may find the realistic liquor facet off putting or reminiscent of spilled alcohol. Because the gin accord remains a driving primary note from the initial spray all the way through the final dry down, sampling is strongly encouraged before committing to the financial investment of a full presentation bottle. Final Verdict Evaluating this bottle provided a highly engaging olfactory experience that takes the wearer on a distinct, satisfying journey from the opening spray down to the final remnants on skin. It opens with an extremely citrus forward profile accompanied by an intelligent touch of sweetness from the tonka bean, making it feel very Allure Homme Edition Blanche adjacent, before gradually drying down into a deeply aromatic and woody experience. As a massive fan of Allure Homme Edition Blanche, I found this bright, opening stage to be my absolute favorite part of the wear, though the iced cocktail realism of the dry down was highly enjoyable in its own right. I went into this test wear actively hoping that Frapin’s formulation might possess the technical strength to outshine the notorious performance limitations that usually plague other fresh fragrances sharing this specific DNA, but unfortunately that did not prove to be the case on my skin. All things considered, I think L'Humaniste makes for a thoroughly enjoyable wear and stands as a rock solid introduction to the house, but it ultimately failed to strike a deep enough personal chord with me to justify adding a full bottle to my collection. Scent: 8/10 Longevity: 6/10 Sillage: 7/10 Versatility: Compliment Factor: Average Gender: Masculine Value: Fair
A weird one for me. More fruity and sweet than I was expecting; also goes on "heavier" than I was expecting, with a synthetic "fuzz" that hangs around and kind of "drapes" in the heat, getting cloying with the pink pepper and fruity amber dry down. I like my citrus aromatics to "cut" through humidity and high heat; this one doesn't. This is sticky and sweet, kind of syrupy. The bottle I bought becomes a barely detectable skin scent within an hour. Not exaggerating. Absolutely abysmal performance/longevity. Going to give the benefit of the doubt that this used to be much better before reformulation. But yeah, as with Armani Eau De Cedre, I will be giving away my bottle. I prefer Olfactive Factory Still Life over this. 6.5/10
Opening is beautiful, I like the spiced citrus, but it fades so quickly. I can't even smell the base notes after an hour.
I really like this. It does smell like a gin and tonic! Crisp, citrusy and herbal. Has a slightly effervescent quality that makes it good for warm weather. This is unisex to me. Performance lets it down a bit.
For what it is, it's expensive... for what i wanted, it falls short. I was looking for a gin like scent but this wasn't the right rigister for me. It's nice and clean and would be nice after the beach or pool on a guy. The middle moving towards the base reminds me of 1990s boss bottled (very very subtly if i focus hard) with a more citrus feel. It also reminds me of pet cats???? Don't know how to explain that one... So the notes that stick out are bergamot pepper oakmoss and a very light vague bit of vanilla. Edit: I sprayed it before bed and slept. On waking I was enveloped in a skin-but-better version of boss bottled that was barely there. So I reached out for l'humaniste and took a whiff of the bottle. It's not for anyone who wants to be announced but what remains of the base is definitely a masterpiece that begs you to come back for a whiff. It's a very personal experience. The kind you'd like on somebody else.
Too heavy on me in the Phoenix heat. I was expecting it to be lighter and fresher.
Opening is nice but turned out to be a hand sanitizer in the drydown
Lemon, bergamot, pink pepper, cardamom, and black pepper provide a herbal, citrus opening. Cardamom stars, with citrus and rosy pink pepper as backup and a tinge of black pepper, not too much. A stark, almost translucent effect. A gin, juniper middle. A gin and tonic effect and a touch of nutmeg, thyme, and peony. Gin with herbs and florals. Then, oakmoss enters and a touch of tonka. An herbal, refreshing gin and tonic. Nice, just not something I would wear. Oops...it's for men :)
This smells like a nice designer fragrance, but I expect niche quality from Frapin. It’s a fairly unoriginal aromatic citrus to my nose. Nice but not special.
Lemon and cardamom over moss and creamy woods A lot of people seem to compare this to Edition Blanche, primarily due to the fusion of creamy and bright lemony facets. Beyond this, the similarity is minimal, the Chanel ending on clear oriental inspired vanilla sandalwood (nonetheless lovely), while l’Humaniste is fundamentally a fresh citrusy mossy fougere. The main elements I get here: a lemon -bergamot slightly aldehydic zingy opening bound through the use of fresh spice cardamom and clean abstract floral notes to a gin accord and finally a retro mossy fuzzy creamy tonka/coumarin and evernyl/oakmoss substitute base. There is a clean watery effect probably coming from ambroxan like material but also a fuzzy clean musky texture to it. Overall beautiful blend, the way the composition has been smoothed out and polished is clearly the mark of a master perfumer. The vividness of the gin accord and balance between different elements justifies the price for me.
Timeless, nice, classy. Has this smooth old school type of vibe to it. First image i get is an older gentleman wearing casual wear after a shower from playing racket/tennis or golf under the summer heat. 7.5/10. Fairly lowkey and not bombastic. Pretty solid.
Frapin.it is a true unisex perfume, made for warmer days .Nicely balanced, calm, decent aroma. If is a little stronger! Than easily 10/10.But who cares, still is beautiful perfume.Cheers!
This is very YSL L'homme-ish. Imagine taking YSL and reducing it down to make it a little "thicker". Citrus and something that gives of ginger make this a very bright and zingy, warm weather, masculine leaning scent. I didn't think the performance was horrible as just a few small sprays from the sample easily lasted through the morning at work. Very nice although a bit too close to YSL L'homme, which I already own, to buy a full bottle.
I respect this fragrance for what it is. Definitely one of a kind light refreshing summer day time scent. Boozy gin vibe like you’ve spent the better part of your morning drinking gin and tonics (juniper berries). Besides the lack of longevity and sillage it’s a well put together scent.
I would call this the perfect introverted cologne. Its pleasant (really pleasant), typical but not typical (unique in its own way), non offensive but far from boring, and it's mostly intimate. Its a fragrance in which another discovers on another, and is not bombarded by it. Some will find it underwhelming because of that reason, I would call it reserved. What I get mostly is a wonderful ginger note, with gin (juniper?) with a nice woody background and a subtle spice (cardamom) at the dry down. There's a citrus blast in the opening that meshes well with the ginger and gin but is mostly short lived. Now it doesn't list ginger as a note but I can swear it feel like it has it in it's ingredients. I would say average longevity is around 4-5 hours and I do wished it lasted longer. Sillage is minimal to moderate, it projects mostly for the first hour and then becomes a closer scent bubble. Is it worth the price? Not sure for most due to its performance, but for me I'd say yes based on the scent profile and how I feel wearing it. Sample first.
This fragrance smells of tart but sweetened fruit, with some woods. So wearable, like being enveloped by warm sunshine. I know someone who drinks lemon based martinis, that was my first reaction. Then Tygar, Turathi Blue (both grapefruit, rather than lemon), then Timbuktu (bitter Mango). The most important thing is L'Humaniste just gives me good vibrations, its a love from me. 4/5
I am not normally a fan of citrus. This is decent but later on the gin and nutmeg help give it a more unique body. Doesn't seem to project that strong, at least for me. Could just be the sample I had. I would wear it.
There are some raw materials present that instantly make a fragrance smell like Nikos Sculpture, Dunhill Desire, Jaguar Classic Gold, Xerjoff Uden, Bond no 9 Lafayette Street, etc, etc... feels like the same old Michel Almairac fragrance. Then I found the information that, while working for Robertet, Sidonie Lancesseur was under the tutelage of... guess who. This fragrance smells amazing and has nice evolution over time, but the DNA is so omnipresent among cheapies for many years, no point in overpaying.
On me I get spicy aromatics, the same honey mead note from 1270, some bitter sour citrus notes, sandalwood, patch, & a little oakmoss. Overall just an ok scent for me.
I bought this on the recommendation of Justin Copeland, as I was looking for a fresh, fougere like scent. I got what I was looking for. The citruses on the top are lovely, but the gin and oakmoss base with the juniper berries are what I was looking for. Although it doesn't last very long, the scent itself is great. 8/10.
This is quite nice. Smells a lot like Uden from Xerjoff, but not as strong. It probably won't blow you away, but it's still a very agreeable, easy to wear summer fragrance. 6.5/10
This is nice at first but when it sits it has a distinct older male at church or law office, but then also maybe some old church lady too would wear it. I would say it’s kind of feminine and floral but in a cologne cloying way not completely pleasant. After using sample for a bit I loved at first and now it’s not my style.
Nice refreshing stuff, you can easily tell it's made with high quality and well blended ingredients. On my skin the Amalfi lemon is quite prominent: it's juicy, sweet and delightful. Looking forward to try other creations from this house.
Very pleasing summer fragrance. Safe blind-buy and versatile. Quite similar to others like Amiri and Sultani by Arabian Oud. I enjoy wearing it during summers and creates a nice scent bubble for a 1-2 hours. Shukran Habibi!
smells exactly like a lighter d&g the one. Great for the heat, but a bit... boring
