Pi

This one has been my signature scent since the early 2000s. It's just a fantastic vanilla/amber/cedar masculine scent to my nose, never gets old and I always look forward to smelling it again. It's a smell that feels like "me"... isn't bombastic or going to assault someone walking up to you, but is smooth, soothing, quietly confident, alluring without being an outright "date nite" scent. To me, it's timeless. Will always keep coming back to it. My one criticism is that I wish it lasted longer so I could smell it more. I get like 2hrs of solid whiffs, then it recedes into the background, as it softly lingers up to maybe 8hrs as a gentle presence.

Fragrantica please stop it with all of these IMAGINARY notes in these fragrances 🤦🏾🤦🏾🤦🏾🤦🏾. Plus it's trash 🗑

I bought a double-box of this in the Epcot France Pavilion as a high school student. It was quite expensive for a high school student. I wore it a lot at the time working at an Asian supermarket and always associate it with working there. It's extremely warm, almost stiflingly so, with heavy vanilla and amber that feels like a furnace of fragrance. I absolutely get the smoke vibes. Honestly the bottle design alone makes it a very fun purchase. I've yet to see a more unique bottle design.

oh my god! time flies, trends change but this never gets old. what a timeless masterpiece. this definetely has a certain, rooted place in the history of perfumery. bravo givenchy, bravo morillas!

Wow this stuff is killer and what a great blind buy.I also think you can ware this on a cool summer day/night. It projectts really well too.My advice don't skip this gem.

I still have my original bottle from just over 20 years ago with roughly 1/4 or so left and it has made its way back on my radar. I truly forgot how good this stuff is. Its a known facts the OGs do it better and this is a standalone masterpiece that has inspired many after. Its time for me to get re-acquainted!

Oatmeal soap. This is amazing. I don't know why, but I thought this was a hesitant, old 90's fougère fragrance. But it turns out to be very pleasing.

Pi is such a perfect masculine vanilla. This is what my first love wore, and whenever I smell it I can see his face again over 20 years later.

I wouldn't even call this a shadow of it's former self. It's the smallest grain possible of it's former self! Back in the day (late 90's), this was a sweet, rich, unique, slightly woody fragrance. The almond and vanilla combination were unlike anything else at the time. Where have these gone now? If a formulation must change this much whether due to the cost of raw materials or due to IFRA guidelines then just sack it off; don't try and swap things around and make it worse. This doesn't deserve a score over 4/5 and if you're scoring this latest incarnation highly and never got to smell the original 1998-early 00's formulation then you've missed out.

What a beautiful scent this is. I would even say it's fresh enough to be worn during summer evenings. The almond, vanilla and orange, blend so peacefully together. Sweet but a fresh sweetness.

Vanilla takes centre stage, but there’s a touch of classic men’s fragrance to it—rosemary and the like. I absolutely love it: 10/10

personally, not for me as of now. it's a strong vanilla smell that i really can't see myself using. maybe over time i'll get used to it?

Very warm scent, definitely unique in the world of male fragrances. Picked up bottle for $50 and have loved its comforting profile. Only problem is that it fades relatively quickly

I'm lucky enough to have an old batch of this and let me tell you. It's phenomenal. One of my all time favorites. Alberto Moriallas killed it with this one. I haven't tried the *newer batches, but I'm on the precipice of running out of juice on my current bottle ( super sad ) so I'll have to get a new bottle soon. Pi is something that I've always gotten complimented on and always has been and will continue to be a staple in my collection. A sweet vanilla powdery bomb that projects with confidence. I would put this vanilla fragrance right up there with the best of them. And for the price, you cannot go wrong with this one. Givenchy Pi is so good, that for me, I'll wear this anytime of the year. 9/10.

Have had the same bottle for more than a decade now, it ages like a fine wine. Not alot of guys are fans, since fresh smelling musks are all the rage usually, but ladies agree with it especially, gets more than a few leaning in for a stronger whiff. 😇

It's a letdown for my expectations. I don't think it's suitable for men at all.

I have a relatively new batch. I want to like this, I really do, but I get none of these notes except for mandarian for like 10 minutes and then all that is left is powder and benzoin. I bet in its prime, it was a fabulous fragrances, but this note breakdown on fragantica doesn't represent newer batches. I checked Givenchy's website and this is the current note breakdown: Mandarin, pine needle, Infinium, ironwood, benzoin. That is it. And I suspect that people who claim that they can smell all these notes either have older batches or by power of suggestion (fragantica note pyramid), they have tricked themselves into thinking they smell notes that aren't even in the fragrance. Newer batches of this fragrance are absolutely lifeless. Nothing going on at all. Just blah, meh 😕 boring powdery benzoin. Bland and tasteless.

If you've ever smelled a conditioner or soap with an almond and vanilla scent that would probably be the closest comparison i would be able to give to Givenchy Pi. It's pretty intimate in projection but lasts fairly long. Not super loud but a bit more sophisticated in a way. I feel a lot of people don't mention really just how versatile this fragrance can be. It's often listed as a winter fragrance, but I say you can wear it as long as it's cold in spring or maybe on a rainy and cold summer day. Of course be somewhat self-aware but don't be too scared. This is just a pleasant and pretty clean vanilla scent perfect for daily wear with a pretty different vibe from modern scents. There are not a ton of masculine scent notes so I feel most people can wear this, male or not. As Michael Jackson proved, it's not as much about whether or not it's a man or woman's scent and more about your style and personality. Would definitely recommend Pi and the bottle looks straight up like it was picked up out of the city of gold or something which makes it stand out.

Really unique fresh and green opening that mellows out into a warm, cozy vanilla/benzoin. Definitely heavy on the powder and light on any woody notes. Absolutely love the opening to this, I wish it lasted longer. Longevity and performance are somewhat lacking, but overspraying seems to remedy the longevity issues at least on clothing. If you can get it for a cheap price, it's worth at least trying. Very unique take on a men's vanilla fragrance, especially for when Pi was launched(1998). Current formulation.

I find this very similar to A*Man Pure Havan.

It's actually surprising that fragrantica hasn't updated the notes of this fragrance in almost 15 years, more shocking is that the people below are saying they smell notes that are not in this fragrance anymore. Notice my profile picture; This was one of my favorite scents of all time & I make a post every month, sharing my heart break. Around 2012 is when the DNA was completely changed from the brilliance of 1999 - of Alberto Morillas. Until 2022 it still had about half of its original DNA. Since 2022 reformulation, not only has the performance been weakened. Its DNA has about 20% of the original left in the opening. But within about 25 minutes, even with 15 plus sprays, the aromatic citrus opening is completely gone, & all that remains is a generic benzoin base. . Even Givenchy's website no longer list the perfumer on their web page; because again, this has been reformulated so much it has no bearing to its original form. Parfumo atleast has the appropriate modern note breakdown - Mandarin, pine needle, Infinium, ironwood, benzoin. There is no almond, basil, taragon, vanilla. lily of the valley, geranium or anis. Infinium is just a fantasy note that vaguely smells like barley I've collected fragrances for 40 years & I have never had one as weak as the most current formulation of Pi Edt Givenchy, its weaker than chinese fake fragrances that disappear within an hour. Anyone that has anything positive to say has a bottle that's older than 2022. It's still an okay fragrance if it was able to maintain the opening scent profile longer than 15 minutes, it's a decent fragrance for intimacy or going on a date night where you don't need something to project more than a skin scent. I actually did a test, It took 50 sprays for my coworkers to smell it an hour later on skin. 20 sprays on clothing, will leave a very faint generic benzoin smell for hours. Took 1/8 the bottle to linger a week later on my coat. I bet money this will be discontinued before the end of the decade, they haven't made a flanker since 2017 & my friend at Givenchy says the sales are abysmal the last 4 years, trying to reformulate twice since. don't take my word for it. I've checked several different online forums, it's not just me reporting the horrible performance & DNA change. If you can find a bottle from a decade plus ago, it's actually the best aromatic, crisp vanilla to ever exist in perfumery. If I knew Alberto personally, I would beg him to remake the original formula for me or ask if he has a bottle laying around. Only worth buying if you can find it under 40$ U.S.D I'll never forgive Givenchy for doing this.

Just got a bottle of this because it was recommended as a popular 'lactonic' scent. I love the smell, it has a very heavy realistic vanilla icecream opening with herbal notes. It dries down to a lovely powdery amber skin scent. However I agree that this edt formulation is very watery, you totally need 20 sprays for it to have any impact. Guess I'll go through it fast, but the value is not there enough to rebuy. Very weak even for an edt.

A MATHEMATICAL DISAPPOINTMENT WHERE IS THE JOURNEY, ALBERTO? It is hard to believe Alberto Morillas crafted this. While his other creations, like the affordable Lanvin Oxygène, possess atmospheric depth and "life," Pi is a flat, one-dimensional failure. THE MOMENT OF TRUTH: THE CHEST A fragrance belongs on the chest, where body heat should act as an engine. But while that warmth triggers a journey in Zino or Kenzo Homme, Pi remains rigid. It doesn’t breathe; it sits there like a thick wall of vanillin. It feels like a cramped room overcrowded with cheap scented candles - a "squeaky" sweetness that lacks the "salt" needed to tame the sugar. It’s a sweet skeleton that desperately needs incense or dark tobacco to crack its sticky facade. THE REFORMULATION TRAP I never smelled the 1998 original, but the brilliance Morillas intended has clearly been lost to cost-cutting. What sits on the shelves today has to be a shadow of a former mathematical mystery. CONCLUSION: ORIENTAL DEPTH VS. STICKY SYRUP If you compare the "Gold Standards" to what passes for a classic today, the difference is clear. While Minotaure and Roma Uomo still offer a sophisticated, warm journey, Givenchy’s Pi has become a pathetic wall of sugar. The current version of Pi smells like cheap vanilla candles. It has lost its masculine soul and feels more at home in a teenage girl’s bedroom than on a man with character. It’s just sh*tty sweet. If you want that authentic oriental warmth that Pi has lost, stick to Minotaure or Roma Uomo. While Pi hits a sugary dead end, Minotaure still tells a story and keeps its mystery. That is the mark of a true classic.

Aromatic explosion on the first spray: one really does get a green note like tarragon. They blend so well with the almond note wrapped around in an intoxicating vanilla. The scent dries down, the aromatic herbs vanish fast, the scent becomes a sensual powdery creamy woody almond vanilla, almost like almond liquor ? I swear everytime I spray and smell this the sweetness tickles my brain. Very Gourmand intoxicating, plus some aromatic herbs. This is nice for barbershop fragrance lovers like me who want a vanilla scent, though I'd do away with the almond note.

Heartbroken its been reformulated & has no resemblance to its once immaculate smell; also it doesnt have half of the notes above anymore. Check the website for the official 2026 breakdown, its not even fair to call this a creation by Alberto Morillas anymore, since it smells nothing like the original (1999-2011) What's worse is the 2022-2026 performance is terrible, a skin scent within minutes even with 20 sprays. I miss the old forumla ...

Well done for creating this Givenchy, this scent is one of a kind. I still wear this 28 years after its release, amazing as a day scent during Winter, Fall, maybe spring too. It has leather, vanilla, Carmel, little tobacco and manly . It still captures the best era for Givenchy men.

I think it is one of the best perfume I've tried so far. I mainly get vanilla and almond, sometimes a hint of anise which is great. Some other times, when sprayed on skin it gets very soapy/clean smelling which is extraordinary. It does have a aromatic herby freshness to it also to balance the sweetness, but mostly in the opening.
