Just got this today and my first impressions is that it smells just like what I expected it to, with a few differences, I expected the cinnamon note to be more apparent and it being a bit floral and fresher but still powdery and vintage with the civet accord, what it is on a scent strip it’s a sweet ambery powdery smell with a vintage vibe it’s really good and sweet, it gives killian love don’t be shy vibes it has the same sweetness but it’s softer and more powdery

Super lovely! I wasn't totally sold on it at first when I sprayed it into the lid to sample, finding it a little linear and sickly, but once it warms up on skin, it is a lovely, very slightly spicy, powdery floral. It reminds me a little of Paris by YSL (another Sophia Grojsman masterpiece) but is far lighter, with less violet and rose. I also get the comparison to the yellow bottle Johnson's baby shampoo, there is a similarity there. Johnson's website says that the yellow baby shampoo has notes of jasmine, rose and violet with fruity notes of red berries, grapefruit and pineapple, powdery and musky notes. When I compare these notes to the ones for this, they are really quite similar. Still, as you might expect, Vanderbilt smells more powdery, sharp and grown up. I find it quite short-lived, but this isn't a problem; it is so inexpensive that you can respray with almost reckless abandon. It is breezy and sweet, but also quite sophisticated and well-grounded. I like this a lot more than I had initially thought. Impressed!

beautiful woody opening. it was so strong that i had to check the notes again 😭 but it soon dries down to soft florals and cinnamon. fantastic composition! also very cheap and universal. definitely will become a staple in my collection!

I bought this perfume today, and I’m testing it to see whether I like it or not. So far, it reminds me of and evokes this scene: I’ve just had a bath and washed my hair with the yellow Johnson’s shampoo, then dusted myself with a little talcum powder. Add just a subtle spicy note, and there you have the perfume. I have to say, I like it on my hair. Unfortunately, on my skin and clothes, it doesn’t last more than two hours.

This costs next to nothing—literally peanuts—and yet it’s absolute perfection. A beautiful, timeless fragrance I could recognise at the very end of the world. Pure art and craftsmanship.

I find it really excellent in summer hot weather. In cold days it smells strongly, almost overpowering, of carnation, but in hot weather is when white flowers, rose and spices really shine. It seems continuitive to use such a strong parfum in heatwave, but give it a try, you will not regret.Hidden treasure.

Testing a pristine 1980s mini EdT, with a bit of crystallization: Wow. What a difference from my previous experience with the 2020s version. I could immediately recognise that these were both the same perfume, but the modern version has completely hollowed out everything that made the original great. The harsh opening was mostly absent (possibly from age, but also possibly because it is just a better perfume), but this is just so warm and sweet, but not in a gourmand way. It's still distinctly 80s, but the version of the 1980s that was still in love with the golden age of Hollywood. She puts on Breakfast at Tiffany's and has a glass of white wine while she's waiting for her rollers to set before going out. It's still a little black dress, but it's velvet and paired with a cigarette holder at an upscale bar. It's elegance, luxury... and yes, it's sexy. Powerful, too. This is an EdT for people whose anchor for how strong a parfum should be is the OG Poison Esprit de Parfum. This was a completely different experience from my previous test below. Do not judge the original based on the modern version. The reformulation is a crayon sketch of a Rembrandt. ---- Picked this up to get free shipping a year or two ago from a drug store. Sprayed it a few times and let it macerate ever since. Trying it now, I don't hate it, but it definitely feels very 80s. Like something you'd wear out in 1983 to a cocktail party in a little black dress. It reminds me of sniffing my mom's bottle of Chanel no 5 as a kid, or the blended ambient perfume smell of the bathroom vanity. But it smells interesting on the skin. Kind of a push pull. A little sourness, a little powder. People weren't kidding about how harsh the opening is. Not sure I'd ever wear this, but it was definitely worth the experience. Maybe when my nose is more experienced I'll come back to it to see if I can recognise more of what's going on and appreciate it more.

I love the bottle design. The carnation note is very much in the front. I paid 10 euro's for 100 ML and for that price you cannot reallllllly complain. Was hoping it would kind of suit a soft romantic goth aesthetic, and to me it does. Very antique. My sister says it reminds her of the little soaps our great-grandparents had lying around the sink.

So anamoured by this fragrance, it's dated but in the best possible way. Gloria smells almost exactly like Coty Airspun powder mixed with White Shoulders. Maybe it's the orange blossom or the tuberose but they both share a fizzy top note reminiscent of those chalky sherbet lollies you got as a kid. But there's also some peppery and spice from the carnation and cinnamon. This isn't a traditional floral at all, a lot more unique. She's a well groomed lady sitting in her boudoir at her vanity table. Red lipstick, rollers, Cedal hairspray, rouge and crisp white gloves. Going to brunch, grocery shopping, browsing at Tiffany's or a night at the opera. Gloria fits into all of these categories. Forgotten to the bottom shelf these days, but she still sparkles for those who appreciate her magic.

Such a comforting fragrance. Very similar to No. 2 Decadent spice edt.

Vanderbilt is elegance on a budget. Many inexpensive perfumes that aspire to be elegant have something that gives away their limitations that reveal the truth. Vanderbilt does not suffer from that problem. The silage and longevity may be (less than) modest, but the scent itself is refined. Keep in mind that I said elegant, not expensive. This doesn't smell expensive (and no, you won't smell "old money" either). Even though I generally enjoy aldehydes, the opening is a little excessive. Fortunately, it settles into a nice powdery floral composition, and a testament to the era in which it was created. The fragrance was launched in the 80s, but I always pay attention to which part of a decade a perfume belongs to. In my experience, the early years of any decade carry the spirit of the previous one. This also feels very 70s, not 80s. The 80s were bold, sharp, powerful, and unapologetic. Vanderbilt is none of those things. It is soft, mellow, radiant, and graceful. I especially enjoy the yellow floral nuances in the heart, even though they don't become particularly prominent. For many people, it's a nostalgic scent, and it is easy to understand why. It possesses a comforting quality that evokes memories and sentiment. I have no idea how the original formulation smelled, but the current version is lovely. Lovely enough that I could easily see myself buying a bottle one day. Perhaps when I reach my forties and officially enter middle age. It carries a slightly dated aura, but that doesn't take away from its beauty. If anything, it adds character and charm. I would say this is a fragrance for mature audiences, not because it feels old, but because it appreciates a form of elegance that comes with age. I like, very nice.

I usually like darker scents, I really dont like anything too classic or citrusy. But I love this one as it has that vintage feel. It smells sunny, powdery, golden, a bit animalic to me at times which was weird but intresting, it quickly faded. It smells like a grandma in a good way if you like that. It does remind me of my grandma, of the italian talc powder she owns and her bathroom, white-painted walls that chip with time and flower stickers on her bathtub, with the afternoon sun piercing through the little window, right before a grey sky comes with its rain. Its a nostalgic scent for me, that reminds me of my childhood even though I probably never smelled this perfume before. Imo its also good for warm weather. I tend to choose my perfumes for a certain season depending on notes and not projection/if the scent is warm or cold.. it projected well without being cloying in the sun.

This is pink gas station soap. Or Easter basket scent. I hope it used to be better in its original formula.

This truly started my love for perfumes. The bottle, the opening, the drydown, gorgeous. Surely not for everyone, but i love it. My mom smelled it on me and loved it too, saying it smells like "colony water" from when she was younger. Blast from the past as they say, one of my faves.

I had a miniature of this when i was a very young girl💓 my bedroom and bears and dolls all smelled of Vanderbilt. It's a distinct childhood memory and it's pure hugs in a bottle for me personally. Very pretty! Still a big love and an evening at home reading a book sort of fragrance. But i don't like to wear it when i'm having a meal or eating food in general bc the aldehydes and i think carnation are too strong.

This is really pretty, could be worn for casual or formal events, can also be signature scent worthy, this is not dated at all to me, I say this as I'm 20, but I don't know what anyone meant when they said it smelled old, or outdated, to me this could be made today, it smells almost exactly like Sweet honesty by Avon but the modern bottle, I was surprised. Powdery, floral, with a hint of vanilla

This is such a lovely classic 80's fragrance. It opens with a bright green note. At the heart is a soft powdery rose accord and white floral and the dry down you get a lovely base of soft gentle musk that is not overpowering. This is a scent that is very much pastel sweaters and stonewashed jeans and Lip Smackers and Trapper Keepers while listening to Tears for Fears.

Hello, I wonder do these new perfumes differ from the old school version? And if so, then which way? I would really remember the old one which I loved so much and I would want to get this feeling from the new one if possible, but if not, I would not consider buying it.

Back in the day this was the very first perfume my grandmother ever gave to me to play with. I often think fondly of the swan on the glass bottle. I'd love to smell it again just to remember what it's like. I am certain it would feel very "old" to me now simply because of the powdery dry down that I remember - mixed in with her old Revlon compacts and almost gone lipsticks. Miss you Grandma - thanks for the gift of (still) loving perfume to this day.

I gifted a bottle of this to my young adult niece as part of a budget Secret Santa game. She took one sniff and then promptly gave it back stating, "Merry Christmas". Best. Present. Ever. Vanderbilt is rapidly earning first place in my weekend summer morning go-to collection. It opens with a green soapiness, the petitgrain and vintage spices reminiscent of taking that first tentative inhale at the local oriental supermarket. The veggies and herbs are strange to my western palate, but they attract me in Vanderbilt due to the comforting caress of familiar soft resins that read vanillic, and appear soon after. It dries on my skin like vanilla sugar cookies. I don’t usually like smelling like baked goods, but I enjoy it when it’s Vanderbilt, probably due to the contrast against the sharp opening. I can easily understand why this rendition of amber by Sophia Grojsman is called the “Hug Me” accord. I want to cuddle my own arm all day when I wear it. As another reviewer has stated, it is fun to layer with brighter citrus fragrances. Layered with Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Nil, the incense of the Hermes sparkles against the sugary sweetness of Vanderbilt and I’m left with the sensation of fizzing fruit tingles (a chalky, sherbet and tart lolly popular in Australia and NZ) in my mouth. This cost me less than ten bucks at Chemist Warehouse. Worth every cent.

I've been doing a lot of blind buying of late. Some, like this one, are blasts from the past. In this particular case, my mum wore this when it first came out. I saw this modern version for a truly preposterous low price and figured I had nothing to lose. When I sprayed there was instant recognition. It's not identical, of course. It's thinner, weaker and possibly less complex, but it's identifiable as the scent mum once wore. Looking with fresh eyes I find it astonishing that something of this quality can be obtained so cheaply. Weirdly, whatever its listed notes (good grief, really, pineapple? I don't get that at all) it reminds me of a mix of two other perfumes, the vastly underrated Reve D'Or and the late lamented Sweet Morphine. Fabulous juice. And what a lovely bottle!

my old bottle whose vanillin has oxidised into an amber colour gives me the vibeology of a seductive woman with pin up bangs and oxblood velvet dress at an art deco lounge bar, sipping on a filthy martini in 1984

I love this fragrance. It always reminds me of wearing velvet and dark shade lipstick. It is very queenly. Makes me also think of Victorian era and jewels, diamonds, garnet. It is a heavy fragrance, I'd not wear it everywhere. It makes a woman feel special & elegant. It does not give off modern, urban city vibes. It is very classic, vintage, elegant, timeless fragrance. I just feel very special and queenly with it.

To me this smells of clean linen sheets, pineapple cream soda, and spiced Florida water. Faint vanilla and rum, a vintage scent that was vying for modernity. This does phenomenally well in cold weather. Ponds cold cream mixed with vanilla extract. Downright charming and sweet. Gingham picnic blanket, sweet lemon tea, and spending the day at antique stores. All imagery that comes to mind when I smell this

This is not my favourite but I do wear it frequently as very pretty, clean smelling and to mean smells like understated elegance. I enjoy the pineapple/ lavendar opening. I also really like the vanilla, sandelwood and cinnamon combination - someone descibed it appropriately as comforting. Sillage on my skin not great unfortunately. Anybody who descibes it as old lady smell should really stop reviewing. It does not help others who read the reviews and is frankly offensive.

An older persons fragrance. A rich aunt who carries a dusty handbag and lives in a very big house with an established garden. Lots of frills and faff. Powdery and quite off putting. I really don’t know why anyone would choose to wear this fragrance. Moth balls and dusty picture frames. It doesn’t get any better.

love it. smells like babypowder mostly and then goes into florals and woodiness its very clean smelling. though i can't smell the pineapple
