The eau de toilette is a very light, watery, and realistic southern magnolia with some evanescent green notes. Magnolia blossoms exude the slightly sweet, subtle lemon-cream fragrance of citronella. While there is nothing to dislike about this fragrance, I was ultimately disappointed that it doesn’t capture the layered and more complex fragrance notes that its name, “stormy morning” suggests. I had expected ozone and petrichor notes and a richer, more nuanced base that unfolds over time. Even so, if you appreciate southern magnolia, you will enjoy this fragrance—this is the only perfume I have found that accurately captures that flower.

Beautiful. Gardenia and a traditional French or English garden just after rain, but with it still drizzling or with an overcast sky. Optimistic and pretty. Feminine. Relaxed and very happy. Slightly humid with a cool breeze across the face. A perfume to be in love to. Brushing through the wet blooms and pausing to chat on the garden bench. EDP warms and softens the whole thing. EDT is my favourite, but both are stunning.

So amazed at how perfectly it captures a garden after rain. It's incredible! It smells exactly like wet flowers and grass. I don't know yet if I want to smell like this myself but I love the experience of smelling it, just enchanting! I can see how this would be so uplifting on a gloomy day. A quote from Annick Goutal: "Nature and all her wonders guide me. Emotions find expressions in fragrance. Fragrance is the music of my dreams." Excited to smell more Goutal in the future! I ended up buying a full size bottle of this and love it more and more each day. This is art. This is poetry. It's just SO damn beautiful and elegant. I am in love!

A French garden after rain. The petals aren't bruised, they are refreshed and grateful for the drink. It's been sultry & warm and hints are still in the air but the rain has refreshed enough to allow the writer/composer/artist to get back to work and create. The green tea like aspects are virtuous - cucumber flavoured water on a spa day sipped while you stand next to a vase of fresh gardenias. But beneath your virtuous facade you have mysterious passionate depths. Bliss. Plus...a no-headache Gardenia. More bliss.

Champaca very obvious on my skin and mellow down to slightly gardenia.

This is a really impressively put together scent. Gardenia and other florals over sandalwood used to very compelling effect. Indeed the title suggests calm after the storm, and you do get that, but the sense of calm is tense and fragile - it almost feels like the way the sandalwood sort of looms hauntingly in the base is evocative of the distant rumble of thunder. I imagine that the storm has passed, but is still visible in the distance. Really beautiful.

Instant love at first spray. I felt something very familiar in this fragrance, memories from long ago, until, looking at the similar perfumes votes, I realized Marc Jacobs perfume was on the list. Then it made sense - it was Marc Jacobs Perfume (a discontinued love) it reminded me of. Very similar notes, especially Gardenia.

This is a chilled out white floral, it has a buttery underbelly, I don’t know how else to describe it but once the bright green and white dies down it is full on creamy and earthy.

Un Matin d'Orage is reminiscent of Fleurs d'Oranger by Serge Lutens to me. Granted, it has been 8 years since I last used the latter, and thus cannot say with absolute certainty that the two smell identical. They are both creamy white floral (mostly tuberose to my nose) with a hint of spiciness. Below is the description on the main US website: "In a lush Japanese garden, the sun’s first rays dispel the last clouds of the storm. This moment of grace inspires Camille Goutal and Isabelle Doyen. An airy floral accord marrying fresh magnolia and delicate gardenia notes with sweet, slightly fruity hints of tuberose. Notes: Magnolia, Tuberous Accord, Myrrh, Vanilla"

Un Matin d'Orage starts off so bright, fizzy, and splendidly refreshing, like a sparkling lemon mocktail bubbling with life. Then you catch a whiff of just the tiniest grounding of earthy white florals—gardenia, I assume, peeking through with a sort of natural, slightly creamy texture. The beginning, it is so effervescent, so alive, dewy and luscious. But then everything changes with this heady and insistent shift—the emergence of jasmine. It’s not a soft, airy jasmine too, but one with heft, soapiness creeping in and swirling around like a lemony cleaning detergent. It even feels a little neroli-like, sterile and possibly nauseating. What was glimmering and lively becomes heavier, harder to wear, leaning toward a slightly dated, overly lathery territory. There’s a small bit of relief in the base, and you can almost see the smooth woods and magnolia trying their best to soften the edges, to add some freshness back into the mix. But sadly they never quite overpower that dominant jasmine foam. It’s a shame... that opening has so much potential. Beautiful, then jarring, then almost frustrating. There’s something undeniably elegant about it, but unfortunately it doesn’t quite hold together as well as I would hope.

Night-blooming gardenias during an early summer rain. This is a photorealistic fragrance and was my signature scent through my first two years of college :-) This was my peace and comfort, the aura of my mother’s garden, that I would spray while I️ studied or before bed.

Today I chose Un Matin D'Orage because it's a gray, cloudy, rainy day. Who says it's a spring scent, it's true, but it's also pleasant in autumn. It is a warm, soft and poetic fragrance. She can cheer me up on a gloomy day.

This is pure perfection. It reminds me of the summers in Georgia after a rain.

All of the Goutal perfumes I have tried have been a win, except this one. At first sniff, the gardenia slapped me in the face, but it was gone in about five minutes. I was left with a dry down of mothballs, pickles, and a headache. I was very thankful it only stayed on my skin for less than 30 minutes. This is a no for me.

I've been trying to figure out what floral Goutal perfume to buy for myself for...years. No one does light floral fragrances like Goutal, and though I love Le Chevrefeuille, but it's not quite for me. In the end, it came down to Un Matin d'Orage and Le Temps des Reves. While I initially thought that Le Temps would be the one, as I've been wanting neroli based perfume, there was a Dove soap component to it that didn't sit as nicely on my skin. While gardenia isn't the only flower featured in Un Matin, it's the most prominent. Normally, I'm not a gardenia person--too heavy and sweet--and the love I have for this fragrance is making me call some fundamental assumptions about what I do and don't like. There's something so earthy and refreshing about this blend that contrasts beautifully with the white floral notes. It seems to me to highlight only the good things about gardenia, and as is wears, other scents twist around the florals that make it especially fascinating dynamic. A Stormy Morning is an apt name (though it sounds better in the French, of course).

Green, grassy, a hint of spring rain and florals (gardenia + champaca). I love this scent — it’s somehow perfect for the slightly gray, wet spring days in San Francisco for me. The wetness matches the weather and the green + florals give me the uplift I’m looking for. A bit of a whimsical / reflection scent. An absolute love for me.

I bought a bottle last time I was in France and everytime I wear it it's like I am back in the Paris Metro, briefly cool after hot hot july heat. On me, this perfume smells like a ripe melon, warm in the sun. A white floral that is vaguely gourmandy if you squint.

Анонім★★★★★

To me this is straight France. I am not sure what it is, maybe the Orange Blossom perfumes/hand creams you get in museums around Paris/Versailles? Regardless: this is lovely, and to me I think this is unisex which is uncommon for Goutal.

Анонім★★★★★

A white bouquet of flowers. Gardenia is the star of the perfume. A picture? A bride during a spring wedding.

Анонім★★★★★

Rain on a flower garden. Green hints, which leave room for a riot of incisive, strong floral notes. The kind of floral that unfortunately I don't like is the presence of gardenia which I hardly appreciate (de gustibus) but I wouldn't be able to wear it. I see it well on a young, innocent, soap and water girl. Spring. “Young Girl with a Bouquet of Flowers” painted by Perrault.

From a sniff of the bottle I thought this was quite pretty. On my skin, it started as a very very grassy, wet floral. More green notes than any actual flowers however. Soon, the champaca became dominant but I have to say it smells like rotten wet flowers on me. It is a bit lactonic and also sour to my nose. I'm really not a fan.

Анонім★★★★★

This is a very unusual perfume that doesn't quite smell like anything that I have ever smelt before. I can definitely smell the gardenia note, but it's not a gardenia soliflore to me and there is a very gummy candy note to it that I can't quite describe. I get some of the mushroomy nuances of gardenia here and some of its white floracy, but I'm missing the buttery and lactonic nuances of gardenia in this perfume. It does smell slightly more like gardenias in the rain as it dries down, though. Un Matin D'orage also opens fairly citrusy and green, with the green note, lemon note and ginger note quite prominent to my nose. This does dissipate a lot though, thankfully. I get a lot of magnolia but not a lot of champaca flowers or jasmine. I do get a lot of indoles from the jasmine though and this smells fairly moth-bally to me, which is saying a lot for someone who loves white floral perfumes. There is a cool cucumber element to this perfume as others have suggested too. It almost feels like cool wafts of wind into my nostrils. Lastly, I don't really smell any of the sandalwood note in the base and I wouldn't call this perfume a woody perfume at all, which I like. I think it must make this perfume last longer though, since it has fairly good projection and it lasts 5 hours on my skin. It's not a bad perfume at all and I liked it better than Le Chevrefuille by Annick Goutal, but it's still not my most favorite perfume ever and I still think that Kai EDP by Kai is the best and most realistic gardenia perfume that I have ever smelt. So in saying all of that, I'd give this perfume a fairly mediocre 6/10.

The white florals are so perfect here. The first flower that came into my mind was Chèvrefeuille (Honeysuckle): sweet nectar with a tiny bitterness reminding me of sniffing green tea like Sencha out of a jar. I also think of a chamomile tea with ginger, but barely any lemon. I totally get that idea of thunder. There is something ozone-like, but it does not have the synthetic ozone note which I dislike. But I do not like the green notes that go from freshly cut grass and birch tree leaves to just tied stacks of hay with interference of white chalk and road dust. I wish this part of the fragrance was not here. Then it would probably be boring, but it would also be so perfect. Dina_France (YouTube perfume reviews)

this opens with green notes, gardenia and ginger with a little hint of jasmine, i think. fresh, floral green and cool-smells like an actual plant, stems and blooms and everything. i love these kind of realistic scents where it's like sticking your face in a bouquet or bush/tree full of flowers. as time goes on i get some champaca, magnolia and sandalwood, as the ginger has faded quickly. what a beauty for spring!

A very realistic interpretation of the smell of nature after rainy weather. Smells exactly like wet grass in the most pleasant way. Sharp and green. It's fascinating to smell. I appreciate the artistry even though I wouldn't want to wear it myself.

Анонім★★★★★

A white floral highlighting gardenia with champaca warming up the compilation of heady garden blooms to emulate an 'after the storm' fragrance. Not a personal favorite from the house but assuredly well made. If you enjoy gardenia add to your collection. I have this perfume in the traditional, tagged Goutal flacon. ✨

A delicate pretty floral with the Goutal signature. I get mostly champaca and gardenia.

It really smells like discribed, like a wet white floral japanese garden after a morning thunderstorm. You can smell the ozone, wet earth, heavy white blooms and lustrious dark green leaves. It's the most realistic gardenia perfume I know, but it is so much more than that. You feel transported in that superbly organised japanese garden, where everything is in its place. It feels right. Solemn and dignified. I feel serene joy when I wear it. Very adult too. I can't imagine situation when this beautiful perfume would not be suited or feel welcome. I still have some left in my previous bottle, it was eau de parfum. It's lovely, but gardenia has very present and persistent tuberose undertone that is quite narcotic and heady, softend a bit with vanilla. I love it, but the imagery is not as evocative or the same. This perfume is pure Annick Goutal, created well after her passing, I believe she would be proud of it.

Stumbled across this as a thrift find. Opens like Goutal's Eau de Camille, very green and ivy like, which blooms and settles down into something very akin to Gucci Bloom; very sanitised tuberose and white musks. Lovely perfume.
