I can understand why this can be polarizing although it doesn't smell bad. It's one of those that have personality.it is not made to be mass pleasing and easy .The strange thing is that i loved the edp and found it more modern and i hate the edt, found it dated.and they smelled so similar.maybe the fruits make it more modern. It does have like they say a fairy-like vibe. Fairies are not purely sweet, they are mischievous. The perfume captures this duality: it is sweet and innocent on one hand, but unapologetically loud, bold, and defiant on the other
My dream fragrance 🤍 A soft, powdery, clean scent that feels like comfort, peace, and a whole different world. So delicate yet surprisingly powerful in projection and longevity. Truly one of the most beautiful scents I’ve ever smelled
So funny story- this perfume was actually a gift from my mom to my sister. My sister is very much a vanilla girl (not gourmand necessarily- just a vanilla lover), and when she smelt it- she HATED it. And so, it landed into my greedy hands. Except- I HATED it too at first. Omg it truly smelt like an old lady. But then, after some time- I realized, this is not just any old lady. It's an old lady with CLASS. The best kind of old lady. And old lady who is also a big shot surgeon in a high end suit speaking at a research symposium. My mom and I are huge fans of powdery scents- and this is by far the most unique powdery perfume we've owned. That's likely because of the violet. We usually buy white florals- and this was a very pleasant change from that. Overall, I wouldn't call this a safe blind buy. It's elegant, delicate, clean, and undeniably classy. It's not loud or overpowering, but it has a quiet confidence that makes it stand out. I think it's the perfect fragrance for the office or any professional setting because it feels polished without smelling generic. I'll absolutely be repurchasing this and saving it for all of my big days.
I love this! I just emptied my first bottle and it was such a pleasure to wear! May buy another one! How anyone can call this vile is beyond me! It is lovely!
I am as guilty of blind buying as I am of sampling fragrances I never go on to purchase, so today I decided to sample several perfumes I'd been on the cusp of a blind buy and Insolence was one of them. I found Insolence to be a warm gourmand hug of parma violets, powdery vanilla and distinct tonka bean. She is all types of classic softness, powder without puff and sweetness without syrup. Although she's not the one for me, I have developed a fondness for her!
Thank goodness I asked the assistant in The Perfume Shop to spray this on a card, rather than my arm. I am regularly ranting at reviewers on this forum who liken perfume to old ladies - but oh my god, this is just that. Even my husband at his older age, recoiled at a sniff of the card and said "that's something an OAP would wear". I was shocked to hear this, but thankfully they were his words and not mine. If you ever enjoyed eating Parma Violets then you may want to transform that taste to a scent - but no, no, no - as adorable as violet is, this is vile.
So fun fact: I got a dupe of this before I even got a whiff of the real thing. It took me a trip to Saudi Arabia to finally scope it out and I’m pleased to say the dupe smells just like it; a cloud of violet fairy dust 💜
High quality violet syrup! Instantly reminded me of when I was a teenager and my mom let me try a sip of Violette Royale (drink made of champagne + violet cream) at a restaurant. Makes me feel like a fancy, elegant, cute lady who is a little bubbly but with refined taste. And this violet! Lovely. I would think this is not a blind buy though: it behaved so differently on my skin than on paper! I didn't get as much sweetness on paper as on my skin, it was mostly old school violet with almost a bit of melancholia, but on my skin it became very sweet, candy-like even! The longevity and projection are great, no notes.
Absolutely adore this fragrance its stunning, it's sweet and feminine you get very strong violet and like others have said it smells purple lol, one of the strongest perfumes in my collection excellent longevity and projection, very youthful but not immature, definitely not mature. I feel like a fairy when I wear this
I got a shipment of 3 different perfumes and this one smelt as if it was spayed on the packaging, it was so powerful and I instantly fell in love. What a beautiful scent! It smells like fresh laundry in the best way, like a old childhood memory of a warm Sunday afternoon playing around the house while laundry's being done for the week! Also been a huge hit at the office, even to the most sensitive of noses which I always try to be mindful of!
A sad goodbye 💜 I have officially parted ways with this fragrance. It is truly a masterpiece in its own artistic right - you may never find a more "purple" scent than this. However, after owning it for over a year, I've barely made a dent. While I love the idea of being consumed by parma violets, my head unfortunately does not. For everyday wear, it is just too heady and triggers migraines with its intense violet explosion. It has now journeyed into the hands of someone who will truly appreciate its magic. Maybe i'll meet you one day again, Insolence.
oooohhh now thats a purple scent!!! its really smell like the color lilac and i dont know swan lake vibes, pastel colors and small sparkles. very ethereal one... im craving it!
insolence is one of my all time favorite perfumes 🫧i keep coming back to it again and again which is actually rare for me because I get bored easily and i’m a little bit picky. It really screams violet a sharp, powdery scent that won’t be for everyone. On me it honestly turned into something that smells like baby shampoo now, which is funny because I remember it smelling quite different when I used to wear it especially with the old bee bottle that I really miss seeing on my vanity . it used to be more like a sweet violet candy Overall it’s still a beautiful fragrance and if i repurchase it I’d probably go for the EDT since it’s airy and less intense. It has shifted a bit over the years but it still holds onto its original soul and purity and I still love it tho.
On a paper: It's a gorgeous purple violet-iris scent. Perfectly done. It smells expensive. Unfortunately it reads "melancolic" to me so I don't want to have it, but as a scent it is simply excellent. High quality. Dense. Huge longevity and good sillage. It smells like a melancolic, romantic, old, lonely lady in the "Pride & Prejustice" era walking in a garden full of purple violets on a cloudy day and holding a book...reminiscent of a love she never got to experiexperience 🥲🪻💜
I absolutely love this perfume. The violet notes are absolutely beautiful and gives it this powdery ethereal air. I feel like this is something Odette from Barbie of Swan lake would wear, if thats not too obscure a reference.
One of my absolute favorite fragrances. If you are into violet, iris, lilac or any kind of purple flower at that, you will absolutely love it. And for being a flower-forward fragrance, it is very strong. To some, it might be a bit too overwhelming at the beginning, though not for me personally. A truly brilliant fragrance💜
I wanted to love this, but the violet is too linear and screechy, perhaps because of some patchouli? Not sure but it has that raspy note from La Petite Robe Noir. Otherwise it's a beautiful fragrance albeit too simple. Pity the powder could not be detected because of that screech, like a sharp break sound... EEEEEEK! Guerlain violet for your nose!! Not for me :(
This perfume smells like I’m a Russian princess It smells very much powdery with violet Very skin scented which I love because it’s not very scandalous
Oh boy, violet, violet and more violet. I have a sample and it smells exactly as I imagined it would. I know many people love this, but I won’t be buying it again. Update - I will probably horrify people, but I had to wash this off.
seda sayan's favourite perfume. love it..clean and safe
Don't know why I always feel, this smells like combination of corn notes and burned light bulb. It's Just not for me ..
I practically drink this. Something about the combination of strawberry and violet just has me craving shots of it each morning. My reliable beauty potion. Ethereal dusting powder that makes me feel like an Edwardian ballerina.
Exquisite. Soft, sweet, powdery and exudes class. The most elegant and decadant of all violet fragrances. An absolute gem of a fragrance guaranteed to make you feel girly and feminine.
This is a very violet forward, fragrance all through the journey. If you don’t like Violet, you will not like this at all. All the notes point towards sweet af. I don’t understand why people want to say that it smells too much like violet when clearly it says it’s a violet fragrance. It’s a Parma sweet candy violet.
It reminds me of opening my grandma’s closet and smelling her clothes, not in a “this smells old” way but in a very nostalgic way. It’s not my style but it’s a very tasteful and elegant scent.
It’s a good, very nostalgic fragrance. The plastic, doll-like scent is definitely what stands out to my nose. The dry-down is pleasant and sits close to the skin. 7/10
Sweet, powdery, clean. A powdery scent-lover's wet dream. Pure elegance. Clean in the sense of a well perfumed and makeuped lady. I'm assuming it's the orange blossom that gives the perfume its "clean" quality, but the scent may be perceived for the same reason as dated to some. Can't detect the strawberries. The balance between all the notes is perfection. I was afraid the sillage would be too strong, but it's perfect. Lasts forever on skin and clothes. Steer away if your preferred scent profile is more contemporary fruity and gourmand.
i REALLY wanted to love this. i was hoping for a sweet parma violet candy like scent, it definitely has that but also this plasticky syntheticness that’s hard to ignore especially in the opening. the drydown is better tho and it lasted days on my jacket.
I’m actually very confused about this one. I’m a big fan of violet fragrances, like The Favourite from Penhaligon’s and Flora Salvaggia from Guerlain. The latter is the reason I was so eager to try this fragrance, but it turned out to be my biggest disappointment. The top note was a strong, suffocating smell of burnt plastic, which later evolved into a heavy, dusty violet - very vintage and too mature for my taste. I’m surprised to see such a high rating for a fragrance I find quite repulsive.
Guerlain fragrances always feel very special and almost niche, but Insolence is truly the crown jewel of the brand. It has a completely different DNA there’s nothing like it. It has that “makeup bag” vibe, but in a very luxurious and unique way. It’s a sexy, powdery, and very sweet fragrance, with a mix of plum and lavender. It’s hard to describe definitely a signature scent. I would recommend it for women over 30.
