I LOVE this so much. Sunscreen in a glass bottle. I was running low on my old bottle, and found out it was discontinued so I luckily found a new bottle online secondhand and I can finally use mine without being scare to get empty. This is my signature in the summer times. This feels like sunshine, sunkissed skin, hot weather, beach and sunscreen. So sad it was a limited edition/discontinued. Does someone know if the new bottle smells the same?
l live in a country characterised by its monsoon, I struggle to understand the idea of tropical or exotic, what is like an everyday secnt-ecosystem to me. I am drawn to gardenia, the gardenia born here is nothing like the perfume notes! I bought so many gardenia perfumes only to be disappointed. Finally I found what the west call sunscreen scents- coconut+vanilla+ white flowers gives a good vibe like our gardenia.
One of the best tiare flower fragrances I've ever smelled. Every summer, I look forward to wearing this beauty again! The tiare here is elegantly done, with that signature high quality blend found in all Guerlain perfumes. It's definitely a solar fragrance, but it never smells like sunscreen. Instead, it reminds me of sun kissed skin after a day spent relaxing by the pool (at a luxurious hotel, naturally!). The sun has warmed the tropical flowers growing nearby, and they're delicately perfuming the air. For me, the real star has always been the lush, heady jasmine. It's very indolic, so if you don't enjoy a seductive, carnal jasmine, this won't be for you!! I've never picked up much coconut. I think it's there simply to soften and round out the florals. On my skin, it's mostly jasmine, tiare, ylang ylang, and just a touch of vanilla in the base, though the vanilla is quite shy!! My bottle has aged beautifully over the years, darkening to a deep orange colour. I've owned this bottle for almost a decade now! As it's matured, the jasmine has become even richer and more intoxicating. If you ever come across the original round-bottle formula, grab it immediately. If you can't find it, Lush Lust has a very similar, albeit stronger, indolic jasmine note that's surprisingly hard to replicate elsewhere. Layering it (especially the solid perfume) with a beachy tiare fragrance doesn't recreate Terracotta exactly, but it definitely scratches the same itch.
Some people will love it, some people will hate it with a passion. If you enjoy strong and heady jasmine, this is the perfume for you. However, for people who are very sensitive to indoles, like myself, this perfume is unwearable. To my nose, the fecal jasmine note is unbearably strong. I couldn’t even use this as a room spray. I gave it many chances but I had to declutter it. Loving or hating this scent will really depend on how you feel about indolic jasmine.
Selling my brand new, unsealed, back up bottle of Terracotta. Old formula and old packaging in the round, orange hue bottle. UK shipping only
Ok look forals are not old lady lol. 🤣 It smells like summery Michael Kors but without that special magic. I really like this however. I'd wear this in the heat of summer It's just lovely it will definitely be in rotation so I don't use my beloved Michael Kors up. :/ It is that good, it is ELEGANT white suit heels in Italy elegant. However this is not my TOP new frag for summer Aerin Hibiscus Palm now has that position. I would agree this could work in winter as well it would come off as SUPER clean and floral.
amazing, rich, elegant! totally recommend!❤️
Better for colder months, I agree.
Terracotta Le Parfum; another discontinued beauty. Sophisticated and somewhat vintage take on the sunscreen beach scent DNA with prominent Jasmin and Tiare flower. Gorgeous and creamy. Works amazingly well in the colder weather too.
I genuinely love this fragrance. The composition is simple: a straightforward, typical monoi tiare profile. It's a pleasant smell, but I have to admit it's not unique—you can find similar scents elsewhere. Surprisingly, I think it actually wears better in colder months than summer. The great lasting power helps it cut through the cold air. I bought it mostly for the eye-catching bottle, which is definitely a standout. Since the fragrance is unfortunately discontinued, if you find a bottle at a fair price, the great performance makes it a solid grab!
I think this fragrance is able to smoothly incorporate the tiare flower. Tiare is one of the white florals that I find is hard to formulate, as it so easily can cause a headache if not formulated well. Terracotta is a beautiful offering from Guerlain that is able to strike a nice balance and does justice to the white florals in here. This is what I wanted from this scent profile that I just don't get from LV City of Stars. Terracotta smells lush with the white florals and creamy with the coconut vanilla musk, and I also pick up on the bergamot to balance it all out. One little critique is it's a touch heavy on the ylang ylang at the opening for me, but it all smooths out once it dries down. This is very feminine and would be a radiant tropical summer fragrance.
white floral and inoffensive. "classy" it smells a little vintage style but not overly so. my bottle is 10+ years old so i dont know if the coconut was there before or not, but it's definitely not here now. a mature, but boring floral. would be a good office scent
Major notes musc vanilla jasmine (tuberose?) Minor notes ylang orange blossom Subtle notes coconut Pretty clean and androgynous, would say this is a cross between Creed Virgin Island Water, Frederic Malle Carnal Flower and Xerjoff Opera Personal taste, I don't really prefer the Ylang which caused me to give away the Xerjoff Opera, but this is way more subtle and better blended, something I can tolerate in moderation. It's good stuff, i was happy to find a bottle at a reasonable used price. It's a like, goes in my pile of favorite women's perfumes.
This is not sweet so take it into consideration. While it has sweet notes from the Tiare flower and vanilla, it is not the modern gourmand or floral sweetness that is popular lately. To me this is almost a pure white flower fragrance as I do not pick up the coconut and only a little bit or ylang-ylang in the beginning. To me the most pronounced note is the jasmine which is quite strong and sharp but it gets balanced out by the Tiare flower with it's natural sweetness and creaminess but the fragrance is still quite strong and won't be good for those looking for a light floral fragrance. A great thing is that up-close it smell the same as the surrounding fragrance cloud, withing 10-15min the initial white flower bursts starts to slowly mellow out and gets creamier and softer. Yes: If you are looking for a strong white flower floral which is Jasmin and Tiare forward then becomes creamy. Great beach scent for those looking for a more sophisticated scent. No: If you are looking for a sweet tropical beach scent with creamy coconut and don't like strong white florals. This will not be it. Sol de Janeiro or VS mists would be sweeter.
I get only white flowers... Where is vanilla, where is coconut??
Terracotta is a sophisticated, elegant take on a summertime tropical vacation scent. For me the tiare flower is the most prominent along with the ylang and vanilla. I love layering this with Daukens Aroma This is Bananas, which amps up the ylang.
I smelled this at an airport, smells like an older woman in Miami.
is this beauty discontinued?
I love how it's the perfect incarnation of summer on the beach in the 80's, and that you're able to get the vibe even though you were not even born. It does not smell old to me, but it does smell from another time. Flowers often create this effect, which I personally adore, it's a way to travel through time. Terracotta is the quintessence of the elegant beach party where everybody wears white and flashy colors, where you're surrounded by people smelling hairspray and sunscreen. It's sweet in a very mature way and jasmine is the most dominant note. The coconut and tiare flower don't give at all a tropical vibe and I would not describe this fragrance as such. Also, this bottle is so much better than the new one that has no identity and looks cheap. If you prefer this bottle, I still have a sealed one if someone is interested
@Gitte123, I think you can still buy this one, but in the new bottle form: https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Guerlain/Terracotta-Eau-de-Toilette-96737.html Hope this helps you! ☺️🙌
Anyone who want to sell their bottle? More than half full or more would be super nice 🥰 this is my favorite summer smell and I’m empty..
Disappointing blind buy. I mostly get jasmine, that's it. I wanted something with a more tropical vibe and this one came up in many recommendations but this is "classic", not tropical.
I’ve been helping my sister find a nice tropical fragrance for a while. In the past she sprayed pineapple fragrance and layered with coconut. It was fine but a bit too literal. It lacked the artistic depth and interpretation. We finally found this fragrance and it’s perfect. It captures the tropical island vibe while also smelling like a nice, artistic and well put together perfume. Highly recommend!
To me, yellow florals always “dates” a perfume in that it’s the main contributing factor to something smelling vintage, perhaps second to aldehydes. With that said the yellow florals in this perfume are so nicely blended with everything else that it just gives it a very classy, elegant, mature vibe to an otherwise summery beachy sort of scent profile. It’s not spring break for college kids, it’s luxury resort for a rich woman!
I still have an original bottle of Terra Cotta. This is such an interesting fragrance - super well-blended and I find it difficult to pinpoint any one note. I love tiare, but it doesn't stand out at all, and I don't pick up any coconut. On me (as well as on a few other who've tried mine), it's not at all "beachy" in the vein of Bronze Goddess or Beach, but it is a summer fragrance. One person said to me, it's not a North American version of summer, it smells like Europe in summer. She said it brings to mind hot pavement and sand, the sea, wild flowers in the distance. I also get a powdery note in the drydown - really surprised there's no amber in the base. Whatever it is, very pretty and sophisticated and timeless, and probably a relatively "mature" vibe (I completely get why some people associate it with an older age group). Longevity on old bottle is amazing, and the juice still smells fresh (I've taken great care to preserve this bottle over the years). I don't wear it daily, but I bring it out on super hot summer days when the mood suits me (I also love the more sunscreeny beach fragrances at other times in the summer).
This smells 1/1 of Armani Prive Rouge Malachite except the opening for 2 minutes have a faint coconut smell that fades quickly. The drydown is uncanny to Rouge.
This is not a super sweet, modern, coconut, pina colada beach bomb. This is a beautiful, classic, elegant floral. I have no clue as to what tiare flower smells like, but I mostly get a sweet jasmine and ylang-ylang. Creamy and dreamy. Longlasting with a lovely silage. Guerlain, you have won my heart yet again.
So disappointed. Going by the reviews I was hoping for a sun goddess kind of perfume, creamy and floral and solar warm. This is nothing like it, it smells pungent and something a grandmother would wear... Also no similarities to Monoi by Yves Rocher. That is light and beachy and fun, I wished for that, only more refined, but Terracotta did not deliver.
Your 70 year old grandmothers favorite.
Feminine. Summer but not exclusively. Elegant but not old-ladyish. Mysterious yet open-faced. Love it.
