This has a vintage amber smell like YSL Opium
I just received a small 1 oz of this perfume and don’t think it bears any resemblance whatsoever to Prada Amber! If anything I think it smells similar to Miss Dior Originale - but no one else has said that so I must be mistaken somehow. It’s a nice fragrance, I do like it but it’s not a super favorite. It smells mature which is fine since that fits my age. I’m glad I got to try and and also I am happy to just have a small bottle of it for my collection- the dark green and gold bottle is lovely!
The scent goes far beyond a typical simple celebrity perfume. It’s truly complex, deep, and unique. It smells like an old, mysterious, magical library — probably because of the papyrus note. The patchouli is definitely dominant, so you really have to love patchouli to enjoy it. It’s warm and has very impressive longevity. بوی گرم و عمیقی از پاپیروس و پچولی داره و فراتر از ی عطر سلبریتی سادست. چوبی خاکی و تنده. منو یاد کتابخونه ها ی قدیمی میندازه🙂
I love chypres, regardless of gender. I haven't met a men's chypre I can't wear and I've only met two feminine chypres I can't, both of which are likely body chemistry issues more than they are issues with how accurately engendered they are as women's fragrances. So, naturally, I was devilishly excited when I found out about this one; a feminine chypre with powerful coniferous vibes that women complain is too masculine...but I initially had a hard time with it, if I'm being honest. Male citrus aromatics and powdery blue shower gels, unisex gourmands, and contemporary feminine fruity florals have really hobbled our ability, collectively, to distinguish gender in olifactory terms. Yes, all fragrance is inherently unisex and gender perception shifts with time, but recency bias has really soured people's ability to to experience much with any genuine, albeit once relatively pedestrian, literate depth. This is unmistakably a feminine fragrance. Fancy Nights opens - and the opening is well over an hour - smelling like an Elizabeth Taylor special Christmas release. It smells like the bottle looks. It smells cozy, piney, and spicy. It smells like a Hallmark Network holiday romcom. Something in how the papyrus, moss, and citrus come together creates a Christmas tree by the fireplace smell, while the amber punches a warm, mulled wine spiciness into it. This is all blanketed by the vanilla, while something fuzzy from the sandalwood and perhaps an indolic note from the jasmine lends the worn panties or nylon leggings powderiness of an Elizabeth Taylor fragrance, like White Diamonds. As the powderiness wears-down, it DOES become more apparently a chypre and it does become more "masculine," but the patchouli remains very nearly invisible through the drydown. It's a nice holiday fragrance but, whether you're a man or a woman, it's not going to be what you expect. Not from the accords ladder, notes profile, or description. This is a really interesting creature and it does a great job smelling like a lot of things that aren't even listed. A pleasant surprise but, nevertheless, so surprising that it will take likely any wearer a good while to make heads or tails.
I picture wearing jeans and a cozy sweater walking through the falling leaves and stopping at a cozy coffee shop to grab a yummy chai tea in front of the fireplace. These earthy scents, I reserve exclusively for the fall when everything is just starting to die off. There’s a beauty to each season, and fragrance is one way to celebrate it. This is gorgeous! I agree the initial spray isn’t the best, but once it settles you get a slightly sweet, earthy patchouli that is gorgeous. Fancy Nights implies this would be an evening out on the town scent but that isn’t what this is. This is cozy and casual nights out by the fire pit for the last time this season, wrapped in a plaid wool throw blanket, or leaf peeping up in Vermont. You must have an appreciation for patchouli to wear this scent. It is a bit of a hippy patchouli but not in a bad way. The sweetness comes in and keeps it from getting grungy. The dry down reminds me a bit of Tabu. It’s a beautiful scent but not for everybody. However, I do think it would be a great scent to try layering combinations with also!
WOW AWESOMMMEEEEEE I love everything about this that everyone else seems to hate lollll I love how the woody + powdery combo comes off as strangely dusty . This smells like old bookstore flavored candy.
This is a masterpiece. Having said that, I only like the very end of this perfume. The first few hours smell too cardboard and earthy and bitter. The lasting power is very impressive. I used to use this if I was going long distance somewhere, and by the time I arrived at destination (6-8 hours later), it was perfect. It was at its never ending luxurious dry down. It really is good quality for longevity. What I've done recently is sprayed it in my daily prayer book and it took about a week for the gorgeous amber vanilla to come through. Now I smell this gorgeous part every day in my daily prayer book. Hasn't changed or worn off at all. I love the smell of old books but I also love the smell of heaven in a book. ❤️ So if you want to preserve a scent, literally forever, spray it in your favourite book. 😉
When I heard this was at least a good alternative for Chanel's Coromandel, I RAN to FragranceNet to buy one of their last few 10ml. I just blind tested them side-by-side (had my husband spray them on me) and they are NOTHING ALIKE! Just spreading the word...
One of the first fragrances I tried at the beginning of my scent journey; still among the worst I've smelled. Intense doesn't even begin to cover it. This is pure gasoline: STRONG, woody, smells as though it's been macerating for the past 40+ years. It's bad. It has nothing within it that resembles the other Fancy flankers (which I adore).
A lot of people seem to hate this, yet I love it loads more than the original Fancy. My skin pulls all of the floral notes from Fancy and none of the sweetness. I bought, tried and got rid of it twice before realizing that I just didn't like it. The florals in it smelled cheap and would give me a headache. I was always looking for that caramel goodness but was always let-down. (The bottle was cute though!) Fancy Nights smells very similar to another perfume that I love, Prada Amber for women. The drydowns are nearly identical, with a warm, cozy, hazy, fuzzy, earthy patchouli. Definitely a patchouli dominated fragrance but because the patchouli feels fluffy to me, I really find myself enjoying it. The opening of Fancy Nights is more aggressive than Prada Amber but I personally don't find it particularly offensive. In 5 minutes or so, the dry-down starts and it's smooth, lovely patchouli all the way! Even though it's most definitely a patchouli dominated fragrance, there are other notes mingling with it to help round-out the patchouli, such as vanilla, amber, oakmoss, papyrus, bergamot and sandalwood. I really can't detect rose or jasmine at all. Many of the reviews here speak to its performance as being quite strong but on my skin, I found it to be average, (not a sillage monster) with moderate projection and fading after 6 hours. I find the performance to be on par with Prada, the only difference being that Fancy Nights disappears completely by bedtime and Prada was still present (albeit lightly.) I find the Fancy Nights bottle to be beautiful but then again, green is my favourite colour so perhaps I am biased! I'm sad that they discontinued this (since it was such a good, more cost effective alternative to Prada Amber for women which is also discontinued) but I'm happy to at least own a big bottle of it along with a travel spray which should last me for a very long time!
This fragrance garners a lot of hate and so it was with me for years. Strangely, after being on my shelf for ages it took smelling Reminiscence Patchouli for me to actually ‘get it’ with this and now I really love it. I really love patchouli and the more ‘dirty hippie’ the patchouli the better. Just as well I’m completely unconcerned about offending others and wear fragrances to please myself since I’m now going to wear it more often.
Got a travel size of this looking for a perfume that smelled like paper. There is a strong papyrus note that I enjoy and that makes this fragrance unique, but like others have said, it is indeed a patchouli bomb. This made me realize I don't like patchouli-dominated fragrances, hence why I never understood Angel. It feels dry like paper, but not in a clean way. It's earthy, powdery, and heavy, and I could see this being a sexy perfume for patchouli lovers. Sadly not for me.
100% a cheap knock off version of Prada. It hits the right notes to be a good dupe, but it is so strong that it is headache inducing. Prada sits closer to the skin and has a subtle strength that feels elegant. This one hits you and every person in a 5 metre radius in the face… hard! I ended up trying to use this as a room spray but even that was too intense.
I don’t know about this one…. It may not be for me. I bought a full bottle several years ago as a blind buy because I Fancy You is one of my favorites. But after smelling this one, it was too strong for my tastes, I guess patchouli scents aren’t my favorite. I put it away, and never used it. I pulled it out today to see if my thoughts had changed since it’s been quite a while… I sprayed it in the air and yeah, it doesn’t seem like that’s the case. I will give it one more chance and wear it out, but I think I may have to part with this one.
Много красив, моще, интензивен парфюм. Самобитен, въпреки асоциация други аромати с пачули.
This is Guerlain Patchouli Paris! Except this came out first and was dirt cheap while in production... a spicy amber patchouli with a touch of vanilla and rose - whats not to love?
Fancy Nights caught my attention because it has perfumes that are related as close/similar to Patchouli Reminiscence, which I love, Prada Amber and Coromandel Chanel, both of which I don't know. It seems to stand out for Patchouli Note, which I love. A few months ago I bought a 10 ml Fancy Nights because I couldn't find it in a larger volume, as I believe it is practically discontinued here in Canada. When it arrived, I took a sniff and believe me, it didn't catch my attention enough to make me want to try it. I was excited to try the other perfumes I bought with it. It sat there for a few months, unused!!!! This week I passed by a cart where some of my perfumes are in my closet and I smelled a divine patchouli scent. I thought, where is this scent coming from? I thought to myself, my Patchouli Elixir from Reminiscence isn't in this cart, it was in a drawer and Angel wasn't there either. Bingo, it was the 10 ml pen of Fancy Nights exhaling I didn't think twice and started using it, I've been using it for 2 days in a row and I can bring my impressions on my skin. When I apply it on my skin for the first 45 minutes, I didn't like the opening, which has zero sweetness, probably dry due to the light woody papyrus and I smell the bergamot very softly. After this time, about 45 minutes, the perfume warms up, woohoo, the patchouli shows up, finally... that patchouli type of angel and reminiscence. It comes with a sweetness that's not too strong but it's beautiful, I believe this sweetness comes from the vanilla... I don't smell roses or jasmine. Amber, moss and sandalwood are all very balanced, they don't feel sharp. A warm heart and base. I found the evolution beautiful What I smell the most is a sweet patchouli, in a mix of amber, moss and sandalwood... with an earthy and balsamic touch and slightly powdery nuances. For those who like me are fans of patchouli, this is a beautiful option. It lasted for about 8 hours, excellent I found it very shareable, even leaning towards masculine. @toucadordemadame
I was fully prepared to hate it based on the reviews. It smells like an incense shop to me. I took one sniff and thought of patchouli incense minus the smoke factor. I don't know about smelling wet earth or swamp water, etc. To me, it's basically patchouli.
I have this & I have Charlotte Tilbury Cosmic Power. They are identical.
I really love patchouli , and I really love this perfume ! I could wear it any day any time of the year and be happy because I smell so good !
The perfect fragrance to wear on Halloween and that's when I wear it. First spray you get a sharp punch to your nose but just wait for the dry down.mmmm.mmm deep, mysterious, rich, dark, sexy and last. I think the packaging represents the scent well. It really invokes Halloween night don't disregard the opening because the dry down is magical. Very unique for a celebrity fragrance imo.
I bought a rollerball and gave it to my mom after she told me she liked it. I don't recommend anyone to wear this on hot days or scent sensitive spaces, because it's intense. Fancy Nights is great for people who love the original Opium EDP, and strong unisex patchouli. The bottle color is accurate if you completely disassociate it from the original Fancy.
It's a fragrance that's been updated from an old world powder bomb! It's mossy, wet , dirty and earthy. I would definitely have passed on this fragrance years ago but instead I now feel nostalgically drawn to it but only in small doses! It reminds me of the past and I don't know why it's weird but in the best way.
I LOVE this. It's damp and earthy and still somehow sweet. A few months of dark storage only improved it. Witchy, weird, not at all like the OG Fancy. I need to find a 3.4oz immediately.
Patchouli bomb. I used to hate that essential oil patchouli smell, but in a perfume, I usually enjoy this note. For me this is pretty good, especially for the $6 price tag of the travel spray. For anyone that dislikes patchouli to any extent, this is NOT going to work for you. It's completely different from the original Fancy, so I can see why the fanbase of Fancy would hate this one. This really doesn't smell like a flanker and should not have been tied to the Fancy line.
Absolutely not.
Ok this just smells like damp dirt or like body odor. This is just an unpleasant smell to me, and I tried really hard to like it.
Bought a sample of this because I've been on the hunt for a good fragrance for fall and winter. This was love almost immediately and I searched out a 3.4oz EDP. I honestly thought this would be darker and deeper. The reviews below me mention damp, earthy, swampy, putrid etc....so I was bracing for a beast of a patchouli. But it wasn't a beast to my nose AT ALL. -but this is coming from someone who LOVES patchouli. I am talking about single noted, made under the appropriate lunar cycle. An older woman I know made her own and it was the best patchouli I have ever smelled. Now that was damp and earthy. And it was heavenly.- Now, the papyrus is a note that I'm not familiar.... I mean I've never smelled real papyrus so I had no clue. But it lends this green almost herbal note with a bit of sharpness to it. Maybe sharpness isn't correct it just seems very specific. I don't find that this develops much or progresses into different stages-it is pretty much linear. It does have a heavy does of patchouli under that papyrus but I don't find it dries down into a sugary thick gormound. It's glorious in embracing patchouli without making it fit into some mainstream people pleasing scent. It is amazing to layer under a few scents I have that need a bit more oomph and depth. I recently layered under Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds at Night and Franck Olivier Femme. It definitely rounded out what I felt was lacking in the aforementioned fragrances. So, basically this is a gem for me that can standalone or customize other scents in my repotire. So impressed!
The original Jessica Simpson Fancy is one of my favorite celebrity scents. So, naturally, I was interested in exploring the rest of her fragrance line, this led me to Fancy Nights. I must admit, I've had this fragrance in my collection for a number of years, but it remained mostly untouched, sitting on my shelf like a hidden gem. The reason? Well, I was initially put off by the potent earthy patchouli that greeted me upon my first sniff. However, recent experiences with similar scents like Prada Amber made me rethink my initial impressions. So, I decided it was finally time to give Fancy Nights a real chance, especially since it's often compared to others in its category, not always favorably though. Fancy Nights opens with an unmistakably damp, earthy patchouli note, and it doesn't venture far from there. In this sense, it shares some similarities with Prada Amber, which also starts with a similar earthy note. However, where Prada Amber evolves into something more intriguing and pleasing as it dries down, Fancy Nights seems to flirt with the idea of transformation but never quite takes the leap. It's a fragrance that might appeal greatly to those who adore that earthy, hippie patchouli vibe, but for me, who doesn't particularly enjoy this note on its own, Fancy Nights falls short. In my opinion, this fragrance is most fitting for the fall season. It evokes the scent of damp earth and the dry leaves that blanket the ground during autumn. While Fancy Nights is marketed towards women, I find it to be a rather unisex scent. It exudes a distinct outdoor, earthy aura that knows no gender boundaries. I was pleased with the performance of this fragrance. It had good lasting power. I could smell it around myself for 6-8 hours. The projection was pretty strong, reaching beyond arms length for the first 1-2 hours. After the second hour it softened considerably and stayed well within arms reach for the rest of the wear. One aspect of Fancy Nights that deserves praise is its elegant bottle. The deep emerald green glass perfectly encapsulates the essence of the fragrance, while the gold accents, although they may look a tad budget-friendly, add a touch of glamour to the overall presentation. I don't mind these slightly cheaper-looking accents, considering that Fancy Nights falls into the category of budget-friendly fragrances.
Papyrus is becoming a favorite note of mine - rare and lovely. It may indeed be an acquired taste, I seem to have acquired it! The fragrance is like a sweetened and updated cousin to Emeraude, which is understandably not suited to everyone. Instead of the talcum in Emeraude we now have a good deal more vanilla. Yes, the patchouli is strong. But those who LOVE patchouli will not be disappointed and those who cannot handle unsweetened patchouli will indeed be pleased. This is sweeter by far than the classic Hippie Patchouli oils. :) To sum up, I understand that those who adore Fancy and Fancy flankers in general may well be blown away by Fancy Nights - not necessarily in a good way. Gourmand lovers aren't always patchouli lovers and vice versa. Here I am, right in the middle, for I LIKE both categories, rather than passionately loving either! This means I enjoy wearing them both very much but understand one may not appeal to the lovers of the other. Being neither, I can enjoy BOTH!
